What’s Your Favourite Childhood Memory?

I don’t actually know. I think I have so many. There are sad ones, happy ones, funny ones and other ones.

There’s the one I recounted to my Mum a few weeks ago. My 18 year old cousin sat her last A Level exam a few weeks ago. My Mum commented about how it made her feel old – and then asked did it make me feel old. Well yes, yes it did make me feel old that my 18 year old cousin has finished school and goes to University at the end of this year. I remember holding her when she was like a day old or something like that. I remember that we went to the hospital pretty much straight after school and so I was in my bright red lower school  sweater and grey skirt – it was winter and trousers weren’t allowed (or at least I don’t think they were I don’t remember!!). This little baby who had been a bump last time I’d seen her was placed in my arms, I sat incredibly still as I thought I might break her. She was my cousin and I was dead excited about all the things I’d get to teach her.

So that was like a happy memory, a sad memory would be when I tried to knock myself out on holiday. Growing up we travelled around the UK. I don’t think I had a passport until I was about 13/14 but I didn’t mind that looking back. We went to Wales, Lincolnshire, Norfolk etc. This particular year we’d gone to Kent and were working our way round the castles and forts along the coastline. At one particular castle me and Rich had been messing about chasing each other round a cannon. I ducked under the cannon to try and catch him except I’d misjudged how fair I’d ducked under it and crashed my head into the cannon as I stood up. Oh my life it hurt. I don’t remember much else apart from a wapping great headache for the rest of the day.

Btw, Happy Independence Day to all my American friends – hope you have an amazing day – let me know what you’re up to. I’d love to hear about it.

If you commented earlier this week and have found that your comment hasn’t appeared on the post that could be my fault – I was clearing out my spam folder and managed to delete two genuine comments although they should have been safe and not deleted. (I blame a combination of my brain not being in gear and the stupid computer).

Happy 4th to you as well! That’s really sweet about your cousin; I wonder if that’s how my cousin Michael feels. My cousin Johnny and I are the youngest-adults (both 19) and any of us rarely see our younger younger cousins (7-13), so I don’t really have that “wow look how big you are” experience to look forward to 🙂

Me and my Cousin D are the eldest at 26 (I’m a month older!!) then in Bedford I have M, V and J all ranging from 24 down to 10. Outside of Bedford I have two cousins who are 23 and 18 (I’m never sure how old A is oops!) Then my brother fits in somewhere in the middle at 24. V starts uni in September hopefully so I’m looking forward to maybe visiting her on campus and trying to be cool lol.

I know exactly how you feel about younger cousins. It’s so weird to remember holding them as babies and seeing them eat their own snot, and now they’re graduating and becoming adults.

Yep exactly! Keep waiting for my girl cousin V to get her first boyfriend so I well and truly embarrass her – then again that would be super mean of me right? lol.

I really don’t have younger cousins that I’ve had this feeling about b/c we’re all relatively close in age, but I do have friends I’ve grown up with and kids I babysat that I see graduating college and high school and that for sure makes me feel old as heck. Like where did the time go and why aren’t you still 8?
