146: So What’s Next……?

So this post is a bit like verbal puke. There are posts out there where people have felt the need to get on their soapbox and speak out about who they are and what their blog is about. I was going to link to them to try and explain what I mean but I can only find one and it seems mean to single that one out.

Normally on a Friday I adopt the prompts from The Little Things We Do and join in with Fill In The Blanks Friday. I normally love this post and I haven’t stopped loving it but I think I’ve got stuck in a rut – I always post the same things on the same days and schedule my posts around that but actually some days it just needs to happen.

At the end of last year I think I decided that posting every day would get me more readers or more commentors or something like that. It might have worked but clearly I don’t have the knack. Over the last two weeks or so I’ve been asking myself if I should give up blogging – I’ve been doing it about 5 or 6 years – maybe it’s time to call it quits and give up.

Then again something occurred to me today. I think I get bogged down in what everyone else is doing – I thought if I commented on lots of blogs then I’d get lots of comments back and then people would spread the word about my blog and it would be amazing. It also occurred to me that I’m so busy trying to fit in a box that my brain (and bones!) hurt. When I comment I’d also add a link to my most recent post rather than just to my general site – is this a good move or a bad move – what do you think?

I don’t wear cute outfits everyday like some bloggers, I’m not on a funky diet that turns my poo a funny colour or makes me lose lots of weight. I’m not a vegetarian or vegan although some days I do wonder if it would be a good idea. I’m a married twenty something who wants to keep writing but feels like she’s whispering in a thunderstorm some days. Maybe I’ve lost my way as a blogger – but do I want to still write – yes, am I disheartened that I’m not sure what I write is being read – yes. I’m sure I can spend hundreds of pounds on blogging tips and texts books but it’s not going to happen. So are you there? Are you listening world? I’m here and I want to get to know you not the 200 spam comments I get on a weekly basis!

Anyway, times up gtg – catch you later.

I never think about who I’m blogging for because the answer is me. If I blogged for other people then that would make the content on my blog very different.

I barely get comments and only get about 2000 pageviews a month – sometimes I blog lots, like this month I’ve blogged 15 times already but in May 2010 I only blogged 3 times. I think everyone has fits and starts of how much they blog.

A lot of people also read blogs but don’t comment – I’m guilty of that! Even if we don’t comment, we are listening. 🙂 x

I think I got on my soapbox lol. It had been bugging me and figured that I’d spit it out and see what happened. I think I just get a bit bogged down in it all.

Think it’s perfectly reasonable to post less, once or twice a week, although we’ll miss the quirky Q&A posts! Most people don’t even post weekly anyway and it’s more important that you just post what you want, when you want and then maybe everyone will keep up more? Keep on posting though!

I have never been a consistent blogger, ever. I write whats on my mind or heart at the time. I have two link ups I am trying to do pretty much weekly but I haven’t and I probably won’t. Though one really “should” be done weekly because it keeps me grounded. My daughter started doing a weekly “Five Positives” and a few people have started it too, I asked if I could (it’s her thing and I don’t want to jump on it), she said “Of course.” That one I really should be more diligent about because, like I said, it keeps me grounded. The only rule I have for myself is to remember that my blog is open, and anyone can read it, including kids. I keep it G to PG (like movies). I am also very careful that if my post is very pointed I blunt it some. I don’t want to hurt the handful of followers I have or scare off the myriad of readers who find me through various odd ways. That being said, it is my blog, and I may offend or upset someone. I don’t apologize, after all, I cannot control others feelings.

I add the link back to my whole site, I figure people will see my most recent one first and then they can just scroll down to see other posts if they desire.

So bottom line, this is your blog. Post when you want, what you want, the truth is, we like to read it even if we don’t comment. I will try to be more consistent in commenting though. I know I like it when people leave me comments. It may be silly but there is a twinge of validation when I get a comment.

Hey Lily! I know what you mean about the validation – it’s like someone waving at you and saying “Me too!!!!” or telling you that your idea sucks but if you do it a slightly different way it’ll rock lol.
