Day 4: A Song That Makes You Sad
Somewhere Over The Rainbow by Eva Cassidy
When I was at university Kewey introduced me to Eva Cassidy – I think I was already aware of her but Kewey reminded me of her. At the top of my regularly played songs there was this song and Songbird also Eva. At my Grandma’s funeral in 2009, a version of Somewhere Over the Rainbow was played at the crematorium. For about two weeks after I couldn’t listen to any music – it just seemed like noise – I didn’t have the radio on in the car either. After a little while I started listening to music again but if this one or Songbird came on I just had to skip them.
Oh gosh, totally understand.
Have the same thing with my mum but I love the song that makes me think of her, especially yesterday. You may remember this and it does remind me of good times with mum but I still cry when I hear it; Puff Daddy (as he was then) ‘I’ll be Missing You’.
I know that one – sing along to it when I hear it on the radio.
Music is so relative. It has the ability to bring back so many memories and feelings. I really don’t know what songs make me sad… I’d have to think about that one.
I agree – something that brings up bad memories for one person actually brings up good memories for the next and so on. I think it’s something in your subconscious ties that to emotions and how you felt at the moment you heard it.
