The dreaded second sock – it’s like the second sleeve of a jumper, I need to do it to finish the project and yet sometimes it feels like a massive mountain or something!

One of those WIPs that I’m trying to finish is a pair of sparkly socks (Yarn: Lana Grossa Meilenweit Christmas with Glitter – 6797). The yarn was bought after a quick dash in to keep dry during a downpour while I waited for the bus to get home. I bought mine from Nørkleriet in Vanløse (it’s an area of Copenhagen – at the other end of the M1/M2 Metro lines from the airport!). Nørkleriet is a short walk from the Metro Station so really easy to get to.

Anyway back to the socks, well that second sock wasn’t inspiring me, I’d cast on and joined it up but I wasn’t feeling it this weekend. So I went to the box and raided it for a different project. What others did I have that were “carry with me to church” size and weren’t too complicated to knit on the bus too. Well it was another pair of socks – well a single sock, the yarn and a pair of needles. This yarn was purchased in Berlin almost exactly a year ago. I’d had an opportunity to go to Berlin with my job for some extra training at our HQ. My flight arrived in Berlin late afternoon on the day before we were due to do the training so I figured I’d take the time to go for an adventure and find a yarn shop – as it happens there was one maybe 10ish minutes walk from where I was staying, so I dumped my case, switched to my little handbag and off I went to find the yarn shop. Wollparadies Fadeninsel is a short walk from the U-Bahn stop at Kottbusser Tor. There were lots of history bits to see on the way, some of which I didn’t spot properly until one of my colleagues pointed them out to me the following night after we’d been to dinner.
I got the first sock cast on and worked through it during the training. One of the trainers still refers to me as “the girl who was knitting at Welcome Days” (the name of the training).
And that was a year ago, almost to the day. I got onto sock 2 shortly after coming back but something went wrong and I had to undo the whole sock. Rather than go back to it, I think it was chucked in to Time Out with the plan I’d come back to it and of course time went by and I didn’t get back to it.
So last week, I decided it was time to get it done as part of the WIP Purge/Finish It February. I restarted it and followed the first sock as a template for the second sock. Counting all those rows as I went along to make sure I’d got it right. As you can see, once again I have a pair of brothers not twins!
