Each Friday I join with Ashley from Hello Nature and Laura from Ginger + Co to share the things I’m grateful for this week.
Freedom to Vote
I’ve complained some days about the amount of leaflets coming through my door and local candidates knocking on my door but I’m grateful for living in a democracy where I can freely choose who I want to vote for. At the moment Bedford is yet to declare, they were due to at 3:30am but apparently they were still verifying at 2am so wouldn’t have met that estimate also they had a couple of recounts and then around an hour ago a bag of votes was “found” so they had to count and verify those too.
VE Day
70 years ago today, VE Day was celebrated. Five years, eight months and five days after war was declared. In the Second World War, the death toll is in the millions (bearing in mind that around 11 million lost their lives in #theholocaust). There has been mixed responses to the election that took place yesterday, about whether the right person was put in the job but right now I sit on my sofa with Jaxon cradled in my arms grateful for those who fought so that I could have the freedom I have now. Thank you. Thank you to the soldiers on the front line, thank you to the Wrens, Land Army and other women who balanced caring for their children and doing their bit for victory, thank you to all those who “adopted” evacuees to keep them safe during the fighting.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, We will remember them.
Friendly Builders
The two builders who have been working on the external insulation are a right double act but also they are really polite and friendly. When the guy came from Environmental Health to sort what we thought was a wasps nest they all worked together to get it resolved which was really helpful.
