Day 11: A Song From Your Favourite Band
There isn’t one specific band that is my favourite – I just have a bunch of favourite songs – including these…
There isn’t one specific band that is my favourite – I just have a bunch of favourite songs – including these…
It’s one of those days where I’m not sure if I’m coming or going. I’ve had work all day as normal.
In my lunchbreak I had to do the following:
I would like to do the following:
Well the lunch break didn’t go so well.
After work I went back into town to visit the other store and put my HTC in for repair – I’m not sure they will actually be able to fix my phone as it’s software rather than hardware but at the same time they might then turn round and say because they can’t fix it they will do….. I would normally expect a replacement unit as it’s within warranty but I guess it depends what they think as it’s software and not the actual phone that is faulty and buggy.
Following that I went to meet Bex. We had this whole conversation on FB the other day about going running and getting healthy – it seemed like a great idea in theory in practice it was a little harder – I’m out of shape and not healthy at all – I think Bex might have been getting frustrated at me for slowing her down but at the same time I think she was appreciating the distraction.
Now we are having BBQ for tea – Chris is out in the garden being a caveman setting fire to bits of wood and things like that.
Okay so this isn’t the exact version but it’s one of those ones that sound the same but slightly different with each version.
When me and Chris got married I was given a CD of music to choose from to walk down the aisle to – I decided that I didn’t want Trumpet Voluntary (My Mum walked down to this) or Bridal March by Mendelssohn – somehow I ended up choosing this – it’s one of my favourites and that’s what happened 🙂
This is the video I wanted to post but then found this other version so I thought I’d include it as well.
A friend of mine played me the whole of Ten Summoners Tales album while we were on a school music tour. This is the studio album that has Fields of Gold and If I Ever Lose My Faith in You – well I knew these two straight off but I hadn’t heard of a lot of the songs on the album. This one sticks with me. (However having looked it up it appears that When We Dance isn’t on that album – how does that work!)
Okay well anyway so my friend plays it to me and I love it, somehow it becomes a bit of an anthem between us for the tour. I get a copy of the whole album when I get back from the tour – somehow in the number of moves it goes walk abouts – then the album Symphonicities is released and I hear it again, and it reminds me off the School Tour.
What’s your name?
Officially it’s Claire, but a lot of people call me Elle, which is a shortening of my middle name.
Where do you live (country is fine)?
London, UK
Where do you blog?
What made you start blogging?
I interned for a digital PR agency back in summer 2008 and they introduced me to the world of blogging and Twitter. I’d recently finished my harrypotterguide.co.uk website as the last Harry Potter book had been published, so I had a big internet gap and blogging soon filled it!
How long have you been blogging? Has it always been in the same place?
Nearly 3 years – I changed the URL over in summer 2009
WordPress, Blogger or other?
Blogger! I tend to associate WordPress with building blogs for clients.
Do you have a day job or is blogging your main thing?
I’m currently the Social Media Manager for UNICEF UK, which is a great privilege. I look after the Twitter, Facebook, Flickr and YouTube accounts, creating and integrating content with the website, and monitoring what’s been said about the brand. I also write about Social Media for TNW.
Do you have specific blogs that inspire you?
I love reading Against Her Better Judgement, *Insert My Blog Name Here*, Run Vic Run, Becca Caddy, London Beauty Queen and Confessions of an unemployed twenty something. For quirky internet stories I’m a fan of Brand Flakes for Breakfast, and I always read TechCrunch and Mashable.
If you could ask me one question (and I answer it) What would it be?
If you were a nursery rhyme character, who would you be?
Piece of advice for bloggers out there?
Don’t write for other people, write for yourself. If you’re always trying to second guess what you think your audience wants to read, you won’t enjoy it as much.
In answer to Claire’s Question:
If you were a nursery rhyme character, who would you be?
I actually have no idea. I’d probably be Humpty Dumpty because I’m kinda clumsy and often trip over my own feet! Then again I can’t think of any others – my minds gone blank.
How do you rename a blog? So I changed from Journal of a Rock Angel to My Corner of the Internet which was fine but about a week or ago I decided to change to The Second Quarter – I’d grown out of Journal of a Rock Angel – I don’t really listen to rock music anymore and it just seemed a little dumb if I’m trying to create something that could work as an example of my Social Media work etc.
Yesterday Chris and I sat down at dinner and chatted over it – what was it that I wanted to do with my blog – if I renamed it what would it be called, would that then change the design etc. Well Chris had a whole bunch of ideas but none really seem to stick with me. I wanted something that I’d be pleased introducing “Hey I’m Hannah and my blog is called dot dot dot”. For example, Becca writes for Just Looking, other Becca writes for Life in Technicolor (yes there is meant to be a typo!), Lydia writes for La Petite Lydia and Ellefie writes for Pipe Dreams and Professions. They all makes sense and there is something about them that makes you remember them right?
I like the title The Second Quarter and I’m beginning to get used to it but Chris wasn’t convinced lol. He’s had some bright ideas for new titles and new headers and things like that.
So how did you choose your blog name? What gave you inspiration when you were naming it?
This is probably more of a ramble that a properly constructed post and is probably completely confusing.
EDIT: So now it’s the 8th May and I’ve changed the name again – I am definitely sticking with it now. It was something I’ve been thinking about since this post was written.
Chris once sung this at karaoke but that’s not the main reason why I love it and who it reminds me of – 3 or 4 times in a row that I went to visit Kewey or we met up somewhere else this would come on the radio – it was probably just because it was popular but to me it was something important and pre my Grandma’s death Songbird was our best buds song but this kinda became it after.
When I was at university Kewey introduced me to Eva Cassidy – I think I was already aware of her but Kewey reminded me of her. At the top of my regularly played songs there was this song and Songbird also Eva. At my Grandma’s funeral in 2009, a version of Somewhere Over the Rainbow was played at the crematorium. For about two weeks after I couldn’t listen to any music – it just seemed like noise – I didn’t have the radio on in the car either. After a little while I started listening to music again but if this one or Songbird came on I just had to skip them.
My favourite version of this is the Donny Osmond and Rosie O’Donnell version but there isn’t a video for it (or at least I can’t find it!) Randy Newman and Lyle Lovett will have to do lol. This is one of those songs I love because of the lyrics.
Some other folks might be a little bit smarter than I am,
Bigger and stronger too
But none of them will ever love me the way I do it’s me and you, ohAnd as the years go by our friendship will never die
You’re gonna see it’s our destiny
You’ve got a friend in me
Maybe it’s just me but there is something about Lady Gaga that just bugs me. Maybe it’s because she’s OTT and off the wall or maybe I just don’t get her lol. Having said that I do sing along to the Glee version of Poker Face sung by Idina Menzel and Lea Michelle. I think it’s because it’s done up as a musical theatre number rather than a pop song.
When Last Choir Standing came on TV me and my Mum knew that the choir who would win needed something special – in the end Only Men Aloud won. They’d got something – especially as they were making Male Welsh Voice Choirs trendy for today’s market rather than the automatic thoughts you get of Welsh Voice Choirs for example Treorchy Male Choir with Harry Secombe (Guide Me Oh Thou Great Jehovah is one of my favourite hymns)
Watch a Ballet or Opera.
Look! I’ve got one goal left to complete – and although there probably is time to do it – my birthday is getting closer and I don’t think it’s going to happen – If I were to adapt it so it was “Watch a Ballet, Musical or Opera” then I could tick this off my list but it kinda defeats the point because musicals are my favourites and so tend to be more accessible or higher up the list of things to go and see.
Read Angelology by Danielle Trussoni.
I finished this the other night, it then turned out that Becca was also reading it. I tweeted about finishing the book and Becca replied – the following day we got a reply from Danielle – how crazy is that! I did really like the book but the end was a little anticlimatic – it kinda built up to a point but then took a twist – maybe it was because I wanted a happy ending and it kinda wasn’t there but then again maybe that’s just my opinion. Danielle is very descriptive in her writing – and often I needed a dictionary in the other hand to keep up with what was going on.
Complete 30 Days of Lists
This finished yesterday – there are a whole heap of posts. If you click here it will filter the categories and you can find the posts there or if you go here to my Flickr Photostream there are lots of pictures there of my lists. I started in my Moleksine notebook but in the end moved to the notes section in my filofax.
Buy/Borrow and watch Gone with the Wind.
Originally I was going to buy a copy of Gone with The Wind to watch it – in the end my Aunt had a copy that I could borrow which was really cool. I did like the story line but really wanted to give Scarlett O’Hara a “Gibbs-Slap” (Do you watch NCIS?) she’s really spoiled and kinda irritating. She gets a sort of reality check when she losses everything but at the same time it just makes her more defiant to succeed. As much as Rhett is a bit of a scoundrel – Scarlett gives as well as she got so actually I find it hard to feel sorry for her. I’ve seen the iconic scene at the end but I didn’t realise how much happens in the middle to get them to that point. I didn’t realise that they have a daughter and that she dies in an accident.
Completed
Today is the last day of 30 Days of Lists, kinda sad in a way about it but also excited because that means April is just round the corner and another 30 day challenge is starting (yes as if one wasn’t enough). You can partially blame it on The Daily Post – the interweb challenge to blog everyday for the whole of 2011 – I’ve already partially failed as I missed some days in January but I figure 95% or above is classed as a pass. That is 347 out of the 365 days – that’s alot of blogging.
The prompt for today is Today’s To Do list.
1. Update 24 Before I’m 25 list (completed items)
2. Finish washing (unload machine, load dryer)
3. Finish last two squares of @fancybiscuit‘s blanket
4. Write to Becca S
5. Write Bond 2 + 3 reviews
6. Write Cinema Paradiso review (DVD rental service not the actual film)
When I took the picture, I’d done number 6 – this was emailed off to the people who had comissioned the review because I wanted to check some stuff over with them – at the moment I’m waiting for the CEO to get back to me – my issues were that bad it would seem lol.
That was the only one that was done at that point.
EDIT: By the time I went to bed last night, Number 1 was in progress – I finished it at lunchtime (Well in the amount of break that I got today), Number 2 didn’t happen, Number 3 I’d finished one square and number 2 had been cast on – hopefully I should be able to finish it tonight or tomorrow – then go ask my Mum on Saturday to help me sew them all together – then get it into the mail early next week. Number 4 – I had started but again didn’t finish. Number 5 – Didn’t happen.
So all in all probably not that productive but the fact that I got Number 3 almost out of the way was good.
My friend, Anna introduced me to The Heartbreaks. This is there song Jealous, Don’t You Know. Let me know what you think of them…..
They kind reminded me of like a cross between Snow Patrol and the Kooks with a bit of Arctic Monkeys thrown in for good measure.
Morecambe four-piece The Heartbreaks will release new single ‘Jealous, Don’t You Know’ on April 18th through their own imprint ‘Morecambe Rock’ on Tri-Tone/PIASUK
and announce a UK tour for March/April.This will be the follow up to the singles ‘Liar, My Dear’ and ‘I Didn’t Think It Would Hurt To Think Of You’, both of which served as a staggering first glance at a band destined to be viewed in years to come as the bright and beautiful youth.
‘Jealous, Don’t You Know’ is three and a half minutes of rattling drums, chiming
guitar and Motown hooks that tumbles with the knowing swagger and melodic
lushness of all great life affirming pop. Soaring and swooning vocals and a shimmer
that displays a love of Joe Meek 45s and girl-group soul, the sound is as classic as
the idea, but the result is the most vital and arresting British guitar track in almost
a decade.

This time four years ago I posted my first blog post here. It’s had it’s ups and downs and some days I’ve really not been bothered about it and other days I’ve posted multiple times – well here goes for another 4 years (fingers crossed!). I’ve changed the blog name to “The Second Quarter” because at the end of of next month I turn 25 and enter the second quarter of my life 🙂 (Yup I guess that means I’m hoping to live to 100! Well we’ll see won’t we!) I’m hoping to bring in new features and things like that – I’m still working on them.
I’m sorry I keep meaning to write more but you know how crazy it’s been around here lately. This weekend, we spent like 3/4s of the weekend at church either doing normal weekend stuff or the Youth and Children’s work conference that Hope in Bedfordshire were running.
I know we over analysed how well it went and things like that but I really did enjoy the day even if I spent most of the day taking pictures (and spent most of the week complaining about having no time to myself). Thank you for asking me to be the photog for the day.
I’ve stated a list of songs that I want to download or get. I wanted to share the videos with you.
Guilty Pleasure: something pleasurable that induces a usually minor feeling of guilt. Something that brings pleasure but is considered taboo, unadvisable or lowbrow. First known use, 1907.
(Merriam-Webster, Wiktionary)
So today’s prompt was guilty pleasures – I’m not sure what mine are but these are the things that I tend to do only to then feel really bad after doing them lol.
Chocolate
Profiteroles
Maccy D’s Strawberry Milkshake
Grande Hot Chocolate (from SBUX or Costa)
Skittles
Fudge
Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream (Cookie dough! woot woot)
New Handbags
Yup this time we have a boy blogger rather than a girl blogger – so be nice!
What’s your name?
David Lurie (or Sir) ((or yes, Master, but only Igor calls me that))
Where do you live (country is fine)?
Pretty Much Dead Centre on a map of London
Where do you blog?
I blog for www.lurie.me.uk (my personal and comedy blog), www.setsights.co.uk (my business and training blog) and for the Guardian. I’m currently in negotiation to join a VERY high profile international magazine as a blogger but don’t want to name it yet.
What made you start blogging?
Originally it was part of my marketing strategy, then when I split the blog into two separate sites it half became about marketing and half became talking about things that made me laugh.
How long have you been blogging? Has it always been in the same place?
I did blog YEARS ago for livejournal but it was a joke blog and unfortunately got taken seriously and got me into some trouble. No more story to that!
WordPress, Blogger or other?
Wordpress.
Do you have a day job or is blogging your main thing?
I do indeed have a day job: I’m the managing director of a training company
Do you have specific blogs that inspire you?
LOADS! The Bloggess, A Life in Translation, More is Better, Mental Poo (NSFW in places), Pipe Dreams and Professions, Hacked Off Flack, Newsvetter, Hyperbole and a Half, The Oatmeal and xkcd inspire me on the personal/comedy side.
(If you want to read one of all those start with Pipe Dreams and Professions – I am biased because I read it too but go for it you’ll like it!)
On the business side the list gets a bit long, but I’d have to say Anthony Tjan and Peter Bregman’s HBR Blogs, the Association for Psychological Science, the British Psychological Society blogs (especially Occupational Digest), Ben Goldacre’s Bad Science, Laura’s Psychology Blog, Research Blogging- Psychology, Richard Wiseman’s Blog, Seth Godin’s Blog, The Essential Read, The Situationist (sometimes), Wired Science (sometimes).
If you could ask me one question (and I answer it) What would it be?
How much wood would a wood chuck chuck if a wood chuck could chuck wood? And NO GUESSING – I expect to see the workings in full.
Piece of advice for bloggers out there?
Be true to yourself and ignore any criticism you get (if 99.999% of people in the world hate your blog and 0.001% read it, you’d have one of the most popular blogs in the world)
If he could chuck wood, the woodchuck would chuck as much as he could!
haha!
(I know really this should have been posted this morning because of it being Wednesday but this week hasn’t been a normal one!)
Hello there
I feel like I haven’t written in ages – I’ve posted pictures of 30 Days of Lists, Music Monday and Blogger’s Wednesday but that’s the only thing that’s been happening. I’ve been knitting a heap and that’s kinda to a deadline so I’ve been working on that rather than writing. I also got some crazy idea about publishing my NaNoWriMo novel on Amazon Kindle (Even if it’s rubbish and no one downloads it lol) so I started editing that – I think I gained 4 words in the first paragraph only to lose like 8 in the next – I might also have to cut out chunks if I repeat myself which would make sense given that I was on quantity not quality drive back in November. Will I do it this November? At the moment, no I am not going to do it but on the other hand I might – we’ll see what else is going on by that point.
So what have you all out there been up to? I keep reading lots of other blogs and beginning to get a little downhearted that I’m writing and no one responds but then I give myself a kick in the butt and tell myself to be grateful for the readers that I have got in the first place. I keep thinking of new names (there is a blog out there called My Little Corner of The World and I figured it was kinda too close to my name so ideas please!)
These are Days 21 and 22 images for 30 Days of Lists
What’s your name?
Jen
Where do you live (country is fine)?
Miami, FL
Where do you blog?
http://lifespelledjen.blogspot.com
What made you start blogging?
I wanted to share my thoughts and the things the fascinated me most. I had just moved out and wanted to chronicle my journey to finding myself. I have absolutely fallen in love with blogging, especially the friendships i’ve made and the amazing people I have met. now I blog because it makes me very very happy!
How long have you been blogging? Has it always been in the same place?
I started blogging late last year after moving out on my own for the first time. It was so helpful, the perfect outlet to sort out my thoughts and keep me sane.
WordPress, Blogger or other?
Blogger
Do you have a day job or is blogging your main thing?
I work at FIU as a development officer. basically i am a fund raiser.
Do you have specific blogs that inspire you?
Way too many to mention just check out the blogs I follow and I promise you will fall in love with them too.
(Note: Go here and there is a long list along the right hand side. Just a few are below)
If you could ask me one question (and I answer it) What would it be?
What truly makes you happy?
Piece of advice for bloggers out there?
Have fun with blogging. blog what you feel passion for.
In answer to Jen’s Question:
What truly makes you happy?
That’s tough, I’m a Christian, so something that makes me happy is knowing that God didn’t make a mistake when he made me. He knew of me before I was born – and although I feel lost and like I’m not sure where I’m heading in life, he knows and has a plan. (Half quoted verses there are Psalm 139:16 and Jeremiah 29:11).
That I have a loving family – okay so we don’t get all the time but the fact that they are there and that I can rely on them is a huge deal. My parents celebrate 28 years of marriage in a few weeks and my Grandparents on my Mum side celebrate 50 years of marriage later this year. That’s a lot of married-ness! But how awesome is that!
This evening we had band at church, in our room we ended up all sitting down for the whole practice – which was kinda good because after about 30 minutes my guitar starts to hurt my back sometimes.
We were in the rehearsal and my friend came in and said that we needed to go see her after the rehearsal finished.
She’d got a surprise for us. We each got a cake like the picture (made by her daughter – who is also one of my friends) and a card with an encouraging message in there. There are 6 people in our band and about the same in the other band, she’d also included the sound and visuals team in that so that was like another 6 people.
I feel so blessed – I had a bad evening yesterday after the Members Meeting followed by a good appraisal at work today and then getting the card just topped it all off.
So fab and so lovely 😀
The Fountain Bedford are looking at raising the money to be able to purchase the Porter Black’s building in Bedford Town Centre (At the top of the High Street near the traffic lights and Bankers Draft) to create a Youth and Community Centre.
We need to raise £100,000 for a deposit, and you can help us, one brick at a time. Buy a brick (or several) for £10 each.

Folksy.
Of course there are more out there that I really love but these came to mind first 🙂
I found the idea here and it was found here before that. (And then I saw it here.)
Age: 24
Bed size: Double
Chore you dislike: I can’t really complain the only chore I really do is the washing and sometimes unload the dishwasher –Chris or The Kiwi do the rest (I’m not sure how I got a small chunk of the chores but I know I should probably do more lol.
Dogs: I’m not really a dog person, when I was younger I wanted a Dulux Dog (English Sheepdog I think is their real name) but apparently they malt and they need lots of care. I then thought a pug or something equally that small would be cool –but Chris wants a “proper sized” dog like a Retriever or Labrador –he really likes a Finnish Laphund.
Essential start to your day: A lie in….lol I am so not a morning person so getting out of bed is a challenge for me lol. I guess if I had my dream job or something I could become a morning person. I guess a drink of squash or juice is a good start to get me going.
Favorite color: Green or pink I think –maybe blue or purple –I think it changed with the win.
Gold or silver: Silver or white gold suits me better. My engagement ring is white gold and I think my wedding ring is too.
Height: 5 foot 2 –sorry don’t remember it in centimetres it’s around 155cm I think
Instruments you play(ed): Ready *deep breath* Recorders (Sopranino, Descant, Treble, Tenor and Bass –I own all apart from Bass), Flute (I also played Piccolo and Bass Flute), Keyboard (also a little bit of piano but not loads), Guitars –I used to play the acoustic (kinda still do but it’s not been played in a while) but now I mainly play Bass
Job title: Customer Service Rep
Kids: Maybe one day, for now we hang out with other peoples kids lol. We have one of the boys from church round for tea on a Thursday to give his Mum a bit of a break for a few hours –we have great fun –Chris does stuff like building a blanket fort in the garden or cooking tea on a fire and things like that. At our friend’s party on Saturday I ended up dancing with a little girl there I think she’s maybe 6 or 7 and she didn’t have any one to dance with so I grabbed her and we had a dance.
Live: Bedford, England
Mum’s name: Carolyn
Nicknames: Too many, at school one of the lads nicknamed me Selphie (After Final Fantasy –he had a thing about it lol), Midget or Titch (this was in regards to my height –mainly from my brother), Smithey (maiden name –there were 3 Hannah’s on my course at uni so that stuck and Kewey’s (also Hannah) boyfriend still calls me Smithey because it’s confusing other wise having two Hannah’s at the same table lol.), latest is Hannie Pants and this has stuck in some form –either Hannie or The Panted One lol. Yes I have some strange ones. Han has kinda stuck at work as a nickname.
Overnight hospital stays: None, well unless you count when I took my friend in –we arrived at about 7pm and had to wait to be seen then had to wait for a blood test, I was dropped back to my car at about 2:45am and got to bed around 3am –so that’s the closest I’ve had apart from when I was in an incubator after I was born.
Pet peeves: People who generalize for example –people who wear hoodies are automatically thugs and are going to attack you rather than give you the time of day, I wear a hoodie and I’d rather give you a hug than beat you up.
Quote from a movie: I quoted this in a letter I wrote Ruby and Branden to be read out at their wedding earlier today –don’t ask me why but it kept coming back to me when I was writing their letter.
“Look, I guarantee there’ll be tough times. I guarantee that at some point, one or both of us is gonna want to get out of this thing. But I also guarantee that if I don’t ask you to be mine, I’ll regret it for the rest of my life, because I know, in my heart, you’re the only one for me.”
Righty or lefty: I’m right handed but I can write with both, I also eat with both and do other things both handed. I am ambidextrous.
Siblings: One brother. Younger than me, by 27 months I think
Time you wake up: 8:25 –not good when I start work at 9 lol.
Underwear: pants –proper pants that are comfy and cover the necessaries!
Vegetables you don’t like: runner beans, squash (then again I had it in lasagna with ricotta on Wednesday and it was fine),
What makes you run late: sleep, I am rubbish in the mornings
X-rays you’ve had: ankle and knee
Yummy food you make: pasta with pepperoni, peppers and mayo
Zoo animal favorites: Marmoset monkeys
So today’s prompt is
Somedays it’s like Mary Poppins bag – it’s actually quite small and everything has it specific place so that it fits in but some days it ends up sticking out. At the moment I haven’t been carrying a reading book which kinda helps but then again if I need one I don’t have one with me.
This is actually my make up/medicine bag that lives in my handbag – I was struggling to remember to take my inhalers with me so I figured if I left them in my bag and had them to hand then I wouldn’t forget them – also by carrying deodorant with me all the time then I have it for those icky moments when I really need it. I also for some unknown reason have a lipstick in there – I don’t use it and yet it’s there lol.
The post its are ever so handy for marking out days in my diary (See next photo), the gel pens are to brighten up any page – blue or black is so borrowing sometimes. The comb is a recent addition but probably won’t stay in there much longer. The blue and clear thing is my spacer – it’s supposed to help me take my inhalers properly – it definitely does that but it’s an awkward size and doesn’t fit in my hand bag very well lol. And then we have my keys with my campervan keyring 🙂
Last up is my diary and notebooks – all ever so useful 🙂 Then my business cards on the left hand side – I don’t often need them in my day job but I guess they are there in case I do. Underneath them is a pack of cards from Katie Blair Designs (Take a look they are fab!) just in case someone needs cheering up or encouraging.
Completed
So there we have it – I have three goals left, two are easier to complete that the other one but I have till the end of April to try and achieve them.
Gone With The Wind did live up to my expectations but Scarlett O’Hara was really irritating – I kinda wanted to give her a slap for being so whiney (is that mean?) Then again it was good and I am glad I managed to sit through it – although it’s about 4 hours long lol.
Day7: Blog Goals a photo by hannypants on Flickr.
This one was also scanned in (I think I might replace this one and Day 6’s with photos rather than scanned images)
Day 6: Least Favourite Words a photo by hannypants on Flickr.Yesterday’s prompt was our least favourite words. It was a toughie – I was trying to think of ones that are hard to spell or ones that I don’t use because I’m never quite sure of the meaning but I really struggled to think of any like that.
Day 5: Weekend Goalshannypants
Completed
2. Today I am thankful for my friends, Ruby and Branden, starting off on a huge adventure with each other.
3. My best friend is Chris, he’s the person who has to deal with me on a day to day basis –he picks me up and gives me a hug when I’ve had a bad day at work or hi fives me when I achieve something like a level on a video game or cast off another scarf.
4. A quirky thing about me is I wear odd socks every day –the only time I don’t is when going bare-foot, wearing tights or with a skirt (even then some days I wear odd socks)
5. This weekend I am going to finish lots of to-dos –I think I’m going to curl up in front of the TV and knit for most of the weekend –is that allowed? I did washing during the week.
6. Something that worries me is the future, I know I shouldn’t because God has got it all in hand but then I sometimes get this niggly feeling that I can’t shake. I try to remember this verse:
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future”. It’s from Jeremiah 29:11
7. On my night stand you would find a mess! Some pens, a bottle of squash (I was thirsty last night lol), a basket of bits that I really need to sort out. My old pair of glasses – I have the tendency to knock them off in the night and although it’s not perfect at least by having the old ones I can still go to work if I can’t find them.
Image taken by Jonathan Dear at Vibrant Photography.
Today this gorgeous sweet pair get married. Ruby and me became friends via Twitter – I’m not entirely sure how but we hit it off and now I’d say she is one of my best friends – even though she’s the other side of the world. I did look into flights to go to Aussie for the wedding but it didn’t work out 🙁
However Branden is a whizz with the internet stuff so with some help at his end he’s streaming the service for his family and friends who can’t make it over to Australia for the wedding. He moved from the US to Aussie to be with Ruby – now that is love! {Fist pumps and leg kicks all round please}
So as I sit here writing this post, Ruby will be getting her dress on and making sure she’s ready to go, if her Dad is like mine he’ll be gobsmacked at how gorgeous and lovely she looks in her dress (My Dad had a little moment when he saw me in my dress.)
Ruby and Branden, I pray that you will have many many many happy years together and that you’ll still be loving each other when your teeth live in a glass on the bedside table over night, you have to use a zimmer frame to keep up with each other and your grandkids will be trying to teach you how to use iPhone1000! Hope today goes really well and Congratulations to you both.
Hugs!
What’s your name?
Elle! Like the one on Heroes. Only more awesome 😉
Where do you live (country is fine)?
United Kingdom.
Where do you blog?
I blog over at The Seventh Circle of Elle. If you’re asking where I actually blog, then the answer is anywhere! Though it’s usually on my laptop, perched at a desk, in my knickers (with a strong coffee to hand, of course). I’m one of those overly-organised freaks who carry a notebook and pens everywhere, so when I get bloggy inspiration, I jot it down, and update later. (I’m also ‘capesandcorsets’ on Twitter.)
What made you start blogging?
As much as I’d like to give you the self-righteous spiel on how I was asleep in my bedroom, when an Angel of the Lord appeared in a burst of bright light and told me that if I started a blog, the world would be a better place, I’ll try and refrain. Instead, I’ll be perfectly truthful – I wanted a place to vent. I wanted somewhere to write about my personal goals, my interests, just general things in my life. I’d tried paper-based diaries but had never managed to keep them past May. And seeing people comment and share their own thoughts made starting a blog even more fun. The community aspect of blogging was the icing on the very yummy blogcake!
How long have you been blogging? Has it always been in the same place?
I’ve been blogging for a few years. And no, Seventh Circle is relatively new, but that’s where I’m staying! Sometimes I blog a few times a week, sometimes once a fortnight. It depends on how busy I am and when inspiration strikes! But I’ll definitely be keeping it up.
WordPress, Blogger or other?
Blogger all the way. That said, I’ve tried WordPress, and as fab as it is, it’s just not for me. Whenever I tried WP, I kept returning to Blogger. Blogger is perfect for a personal blog – quick, easy and with more options for templates.
Do you have a day job or is blogging your main thing?
If only it was! I have a day job, and I’m also editor of female fiction website Trashionista. I’m currently re-writing my novel for my literary agent (here’s hoping it’s popular!) and I’ve just started working with a friend who’s just started up her own PR company. Oh, and sometimes, I save the world before breakfast.
Do you have specific blogs that inspire you?
Lots! I find a lot of personal blogs inspiring but there are far too many to list!
Some I like are Forever Amber (foreveramber.co.uk),
Cup Cate (www.cupcate.com), Paula (insertmyblognamehere.blogspot.com) and of course, I follow a lot of book blogs.
If you could ask me one question (and I answer it) What would it be?
Ha, you shouldn’t have asked that! 😉 Hmmm…*wrings hands in glee* Seriously though, how many people do you follow, and who inspires YOU?
Piece of advice for bloggers out there?
I’m aware that others have said this previously, but…be yourself. It’s so easy to see when someone is trying too hard to be cool or funny or venturing away from their usual ‘blog personality.’ Other than that, be careful what you put on your blog. I try not to put anything really personal on mine. It’s not that I’m paranoid, it just feels uncomfortable having too much info available. I know of people who put their whole lives online and it’s unnerving. Personally? I think it works better with a little bit of mystery!
Probably too many lol.
When it comes to writing Ellefie @ Pipe Dreams and Professions and Rickie Writes @ All Road Lead to Cake.
My penpals inspire me too. There’s Bobberdilly who draws a piece of art on every envelope he sends and Becca who sends me funny or pretty cards each time.
I believe that people are brought into my life for a reason. There’s Lauren, who has this humungous heart for everyone, she works with Nate who equally wants to make the world a better place and does so through ItStartsWithUs. Then there is Em and Tim at Today’s Letters – I blog about them on a regular basis because they are just so awesome lol. Em writes a letter to Tim every day – it’s often only four sentences and a picture but it’s showing her love to him every day. Tim then writes on a Friday back to her. Each post ends with a question to get us involved. I recently heard Em and Tim’s testimonies and how they became Christians and ended up together – it’s so sweet in places but in other places it’s heartbreaking. Either way they are awesome and they inspire me hugely.
Is that a long enough answer? hehe.

Chills me out and calms me down….it’s also one of Chris’s favourites.
Prompts from Little Things We Do
So following my post back in January and the letter I wrote to a letter to Pizza Express. We’d been for dinner and the service we received really wasn’t that good amongst other bits (See the above link).
After a few emails going backwards and forwards I got a lovely email from Paul who (I think) is the Regional Manager. We were given a “voucher” for two main courses and today we went for that meal.
The waitress we had was super lovely. She even recognised my name when I showed her the email. I asked her, her name so that I could ask for her when we asked for the bill – rather than have the confusion that we had last time.
Okay so this is when I go off on a geeky moment because Lucy (our waitress) commented on how much she liked my blog. Yes I did go all stupid have a bit of a giggly moment – apparently she’d seen the URL on the email that was passed round the managers and so looked up my blog on her phone and really liked it!
We both had a starter, I had dough balls (As usual!!) and Chris had the Tricolore which was avocado, mozzarella and tomatoes on like a pizza base. I had a little bit of the mozzarella with the base in exchange for one of my dough balls.
We then both had pizza for our mains, I had a margarita and Chris had La Reine which had olives and things like that on it. It was lovely.
Pudding was the challenge – banoffee pie or dough balls with Nutella?!?! Talk about a hard decision. Well Lucy helped me make the decision and we both had banoffe pie. It was really nice as well – sometimes the banana can over power everything else and actually it didn’t this time it was really really nice.
Lucy came back and gave us the bill and we had a chat about blogging and things like that, which was really lovely because it was kinda busy as it was a Thursday. Lucy and her lovely top service has restored my opinion and I’d gladly go back again.
Me and Chris were talking on the way back to the car – next time we come do we need to look through the window and see if Lucy is working before we go in so we know that we’re going to get fab service again.
What’s your name?
My name is Cardiogirl; if I gave you my real name I’d have to kill you. However, I’m always up for a puzzle so I’ll give you a hint. There’s a song about my name from an American sit-com that aired in the 80s and 90s. It was set in a bar where everyone knows your name.
The mysterious Cardiogirl….
Where do you live (Country is fine)?
I hail from Michigan, aka, the mitten state. I live just outside of Detroit, which is one of the former Murder Capitals of the US. Yay, team.
Where do you blog?
http://www.cardiogirl.net
My blog is called Cardiogirl: 19% body fat 100% fun
What made you start blogging?
Somehow I ran across a blog at Diaryland (every time I read that I think it’s Dairy Land, home of milk and butter) and I decided it would be fun to have an online journal.
How long have you been blogging? Has it always been in the same place? WordPress, Blogger or other?
I started in October 2006 at Diaryland and then registered cardiogirl.net at WordPress. I love WordPress; I recommend it to everyone who wants to start a blog.
Do you have a day job or is blogging your main thing?
I am a stay-at-home mom; blogging is my main thing. I make a very small amount of money each month from BlogHer ads. I can buy two pizzas a month on what I make. Money made = peanuts.
Do you have specific blog that inspire you?
The blog I read at Diaryland was called Mimi Smartypants and she really did inspire me to start my blog. Strangely, I haven’t read her in a long time, mostly because she does not allow comments. I find that really strange.
If you could ask me one question (and I answer it) . What would it be?
Hmm, one question, eh? Do you own a pair of Converse shoes — low tops or high tops?
A piece of advice for bloggers out there?
My advice is to write often (I’d say every day, but that might be a bit aggressive), install threaded comments on your blog and reply to every comment you receive. Blogging is about relationships and relationships require input from both sides.
To answer Cardiogirl’s question
Do you own a pair of Converse shoes — low tops or high tops?
I have a pair of official Converse High Tops. I do have a pair of low tops but they were by a french company called Pomme D’Api and they are patchwork rather than one colour.
This is one of the challenges/forfeits we had for our gamers – we cooked some spaghetti and left it to cool a bit. Then we had some fun. Rikki put the spaghetti on Becca’s head and made it into a nice hair do.
Spaghetti hair do’s I don’t think Becca was too impressed even though it was for a good cause. You can find more info at fountainbedford.co.uk or watch our live stream till 7pm today at justin.tv/fountainbedford
A friend of ours stopped by to say hi and took some photos. They were originally posted on Facebook but there were problems with rights and things like that so here are the pictures.
Chris – the big boss with the power!
Rikki – our guy gamer in his pink tutu and pink leg warmers (an earlier challenge)
Me – I’ve been relegated to the floor I’m tweeting, blogging and chatting away.
ollowing my post last night I stayed at church until 2am then decided it was time for me to go home rather than risk falling asleep at the wheel. I got home and booted up my Mac – I stayed online till about 3am then it was time to crash.
At first I slept through til 9am and thought about getting up and being productive but alas I fell asleep again and next thing I knew it was 10 to 12. I sat around and read for a bit then logged back onto the stream. Our internet wasn’t that great and it kept cutting out – didn’t quite beat actually being in the room. I guess I’m kinda live blogging the event lol.
I’m sat here now Rikki is playing Crash Bandicoot, I’m not sure what Becca is playing as I’m sat in the wrong place at the moment, it looks like Sonic but I’m not entirely sure. We’re aiming to hit £400 by the end of the time, if we hit £1000 then Rikki will have his head shaved or Becca will be pelted with balloons with random concoctions inside them (so angel delight, water, milk etc).
You can find out more at The Fountain website or you can watch the live feed on the JustinTV channel.
Also if you’re on Twitter you can follow @fountainbedford or just look for the hashtag #fountaingaming.
So far we are 5 hours into the 24 Hour Gaming Marathon to raise funds towards The Fountain Bedford project.
My friends Rikki and Becca are busy here playing games and taking forfeits as we reach different totals. At the moment we are on £215 and we are aiming for £250, at that point we’ll take a vote to see who out of these two should be wearing the costume.
So this is a quick post to let you know. You can find out more at The Fountain website or you can watch the live feed on the JustinTV channel.
Also if you’re on Twitter you can follow @fountainbedford or just look for the hashtag #fountaingaming.
oday at work me and the Big Cheese had a chat. It wasn’t too seriously and stuff but it needed to be honest. Now I try not to lie but when you’re talking about situations at work it can be hard to speak up and say something is the matter rather than just answer its fine and then keep your head down. But it was good today. I’d given a brief explanation by email on Monday and The Big Cheese wasn’t sure that he got what was wrong but once I explained in person he got it.
So that got sorted which was good. We talked about some other bits and pieces and all in all it was good. I kinda want to share more but for now it’s behind closed doors and can’t be talked about lol. All I can say is that it was positive rather than negative and I feel good for the first time in about a week and a half.
I am again loving the Daily Drop Cap so again starting this post is one of Jessica Hische’s designs. This is from Alphabet 12. Originally this post started with an S but the one S I did kinda like had a cigarette as part of the picture and so I decided to avoid that.
Earlier I hosted #watercoolermoment on Twitter – I’m hoping it went well and there seemed to be enough people talking so who knows I might be doing it again in the future. Work has been fun since Monday – two of my colleagues got new computers this week so I was setting them up and getting my colleague in the US to install the other bits that needed to be done before they could use them. There is something about getting a new toy to play with even though you only get a few minutes to play with it. Am I right? lol.
What’s your name?
My name is Jamie
Where do you live (country is fine)?
I live in an itty bitty town in Southern Illinois in the United States
Where do you blog?
http://inspiredmess.blogspot.com
What made you start blogging?
It’s kind of embarrassing, but I used to blog on MySpace. Ha! I wasn’t able to upload pictures on the myspace blog so I started my blogspot blog and would copy and paste the blog post to my myspace blog. Then it just grew from there!
How long have you been blogging? Has it always been in the same place?
I started blogging on current blog in May, 2008 and haven’t switched!
WordPress, Blogger or other?
Blogger
Do you have a day job or is blogging your main thing?
I work as a paralegal in a law office during the day. I also have many side projects and of course, mommy is a full-time title as well.
Do you have specific blogs that inspire you?
Of course! You can check out all my favorite blogs on my “blogs I love” link on my blog!
If you could ask me one question (and I answer it) What would it be?
Where do you find your inspiration?
Piece of advice for bloggers out there?
Just be you! Don’t try to conform to what other bloggers are doing or what you think you “should be” doing. Make your own way and just be you. Always be real and honest.
So to answer Jamie’s question:
Where do you find your inspiration?
Here, there and everywhere really. There are alot of blogs out there that I read and regularly add more (yep It’s a rare occasion when I have nothing on there to read. Sometimes I find inspiration elsewhere too.
keep looking at the Daily Drop Cap and wanting to some how use it and somehow I fail completely – I get distracted by something else to blog about but here I am. So Happy Valentines Day and here is the post. I’m one of those people that really struggled with Valentines Day. By the time I was in my teens I’d kinda pretend that it didn’t matter but I was kinda gutted each time that I didn’t get a card (right I’m sure that I’m not the only one right?!).
Well Valentine’s is one of those “holidays” that kinda gets celebrated and kinda doesn’t – but this year was the best. Last year me and Chris had a disagreement on Valentine’s Day and spent most of the day mad at each other (Yup I know not so good) but today was good. Last night before going to sleep I put Chris’s card on his pillow. He has Mondays off and I don’t so I wanted to leave it for him so that he could open it when he got to that point rather than me waking him and him being grumpy while I charge round getting ready for work. Well I went to work and didn’t really think any more of it. Chris isn’t the kind to send flowers to work or anything like that so I didn’t really think about it. I got in the car and drove home. I’ve been having a bit of a pants time at work recently either because I’m just not feeling it or because there is genuinely something wrong. Today was a genuinely wrong day but could have been a not feeling it day, and you wonder why I can’t tell if I’m coming or going lol.
So I get home and there is a full production line in the kitchen – Chris is on a mission and is cooking dinner. On the menu: ham, eggs and chips (or other potato product in the end) with veggies and baked beans. He was on a mission so I said hi and then went to check my phone so that I didn’t get in the way. And there it was. Chris had posted a video on Facebook called The Photographic Adventures of Han and Chris – it was so adorable. The Kiwi got in from work and before she’d even got her coat off I passed her my phone and told her to watch it lol.
Chris asked The Kiwi if she wanted dinner with us as well so we all sat together and watched Top Gear while eating our dinner, The Kiwi was then going out with some friends and me and Chris sat on the living room floor and played Monopoly. I’m not a big fan but it’s like Chris’s favourite board game ever and he always wants to play to the death – well I died when he ended up with Hotels on the browns and 4 apartments/house on each of the. We have a new version of Monopoly but had it been the old version he had the hotels on Old Kent Road and Whitechapel and the the 4 apartment/houses on the Leicester Square, Coventry Street and Piccadilly.
By the time we finished at about 10pm I was so glad for it! I don’t mind playing but the card version means that you can’t physically see how much money you have left and things like that so that makes it a little more challenging. I do prefer the original in that I know what the streets are and where roughly they are on the board.
I lift up my eyes to the mountains — where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. He will not let your foot slip — he who watches over you will not slumber; indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord watches over you — the Lord is your shade at your right hand; the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night. The Lord will keep you from all harm — he will watch over your life; the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.
So today I’m sharing the mail I’ve received. I’ve had quite a few bits this week so I decided to save them up and post them in one go rather than in dribs and drabs. First up is a postcard from Danielle aka FancyBiscuit. I love this robot cartoon – reminds me of Ruby and Branden 🙂
On that note Danielle is also hosting a fab giveaway to win $15 credit with Body Balm who make the fab Get Lippy Lip balms and various lovely smelling perfume oils. The Buttercream sounds yummy!
Next up, I signed up to various swaps on Swap-Bot, including this one, the idea was to send a Valentine’s card and include a tea bag, I love these kinds of swaps because then I can try tea from all over the place – especially now that I’ve worked out which ones I like and which ones I don’t like. Also how many sugars I need it in. This one came from Knitterofhats – she’s from Arlington, Virginia which was really exciting.
This one came from Finfolk from Ohio – I love the pattern. It’s a tri-fold card which is really cool. I was sent a bag of Raspberry tea by Finfolk which was lovely. Chris had that one and he seemed to enjoy it so that was good!
This one came from iSwallow who lives in Kent. The first bag was Lemon and Ginger which I had with a dollop of honey in it and it was lovely – might have to get some of those next time I have a cold! I also got a bag of Lithuania tea but I haven’t tried that one yet, it’s on the side in the kitchen. I love this card – it’s soooo cool!
BTW can you tell that I am loving the new scanner/printer/copier thing that we have now 🙂
What’s your name?
My name is Trisha, that’s short for Patrizia. I also go by TrishArgh or Mary Sew 😀
Where do you live (country is fine)?
I am from Germany. I was born an raised in Berlin and now live in a small town called Siegen to study here.
Where do you blog?
http://www.mistyillusions.org/marysew/
Usually from my desktop PC, but when I am lazy I blog in bed with the laptop 🙂
What made you start blogging? /How long have you been blogging? Has it always been in the same place?
(I answered all these questions in one, I hope that’s okay?)
I always had a blog. I’ve always had a website, the first webpage I made back in the 90’s (oh god, I’m old!). I am a html and coding geek and I always played around with it. And I always followed the latest Internet trends. Blogging was a part of it. So I think the first blog I started about 7 or 6 years ago, it was called “crying out loud” lol. I was very much into digital art back then and posted about that matter a lot. Later I had a livejournal. About 2 years ago I wanted a DIY blog. I was inspired by all the big DIY blogger like Elsie or Mama Sew. I’ve been sewing and crafting for so long and it was a big part of my life, I thought it would be great to show these things on my blog. I also wanted to share tutorials.
WordPress, Blogger or other?
I used to have a Blogger account back then. But now I go with WordPress, hosted on my own webspace. I love WordPress 🙂
Do you have a day job or is blogging your main thing?
Haha, yeah, that would be great. No, in fact I am a university student. I also run a small teeny tiny business.
Do you have specific blogs that inspire you?
I get inspired by the blogs of my friends Thera and Max a lot. They create awesome fashion and are so very talented. I also love the blog of the Dainty Squid and a German blog called Frau Liebe the most.
If you could ask me one question (and I answer it) What would it be?
How old are you? You always look so young on your pictures, it’s hard for me to guess your age 😀
Piece of advice for bloggers out there?
Be yourself, anyone else is already taken! Don’t try to copy other people. It is totally okay to get inspired by other blogger and I can understand when you choose them as a role model for your own blog in the beginning. But somewhere along the way you should develop your ow blog personality. Oh, and only blog about things you really like to share. Don’t blog pretty pictures just to blog something. That’s boring and your readers will see right through it.
In answer to Trisha’s question
How old are you?
I’m 24 – I’ll be 25 on my next birthday in April. I often get told that I look younger than I actually am – which should be a good thing because then when I’m like 60 I’ll look 50 haha! Better than any anti-aging cream lol.
Yesterday I watched the Superbowl for the first time – okay I didn’t watch the whole match as I needed to go to bed so that I could get up for work but as I write this post, I’m watching the end of the match as I’d recorded it.
Before I went to bed I was asked did I have any predictions. This is what I tweeted – bearing in mind that I know very little about American Football
[blackbirdpie url=”http://twitter.com/#!/girltaristhan/status/34408661224783872″]
So I will be back with a post about my trip to London on Friday but it was taking me longer than I expected so I decided to finish some swaps for Swap-Bot and then go back to it. I’ve been working on these and on this scarf this weekend. And I had a nap, read and ran karaoke at a fundraising milkshake night lol.
This is the EPIC scarf that I am working on for the Christmas Production – yes it’s February and I’m already starting on making a prop. Yes I know it when really messy at the bottom but other than that it’s been fine. As I sit and write this post the Superbowl is playing on the TV – I think Chris is a little baffled why I am watching it when I really don’t like Football aka Soccer and watch Rugby with my Dad lol.

Could you enter a team to #eggheads made up of people from #Twitter?
— Hannah J (@HannahJPlans) January 12, 2011
So Back in January I posted the above tweet on Twitter. There came various responses and in the end there was a team. My Twitter Friend Matt became our team captain and went about getting us signed up to play.
Well first we had an audition to get through – so will about a weeks notice I tried to get the time off work – and thankfully my managers were in a good mood that day and it was allowed lol.
This morning just after 9am Chris dropped me off at Bedford Train Station and after a little bit of confusion with the ticket machine, I had my ticket in one hand my hot chocolate in the other and my headphones in my ears playing Alanis Morisette and other bands including Firework by Katy Perry (I tweeted this and got some interesting comments including this one from Deevski)
I catch the 0949 to St Pancras which arrives in the station at about 1030 which gives me just enough time to master the route I need to take to get from St Pancras to Covent Garden to go play on the MacBooks and iMacs in the Apple Store (And join in with WaterCoolerMoment at 11am hosted by Rickie today but normally by BitsyTalk). I think the Apple People were a little irritated by me tweeting lots but to a certain degree it was testing it lol. I am pretty sure I walked past at least two people signed into the Facebook accounts.
Anyway so I hover but then I start to feel really really uncomfortable so go for a wander round Covent Garden. I’d tweeted about leaving the Apple Store and got this reply from Rickie.
@girltaristhan Till 12 but u don't have to stick around with rude people, you'd think they'd treat #gadgetgirl better! #watercoolermoment
— Rickie Josen (@RickieWrites) February 4, 2011
My friends rock lol. I go for a wander round Covent Garden and find this awesome shop called Artbox – it’s so cool! It’s like Kawaii heaven lol. From Covent Garden I catch the tube up to Regents Park station as the audition was just round the corner from there and we were going to grab coffees to plot before we headed in. I went for a bit of an explore near the tube station so I knew what we could get for lunch – our main choices were sandwiches from Pret or Pizza Express. I wandered back up to the tube station and hovered far enough away that I wasn’t in the flow of traffic but close enough that hopefully my teammates would spot me. At this point I was looking for Matt and Dan. We also grabbed some lunch – I managed to once again resist getting diet cola and ended up with lemon flavoured water juice stuff lol. It’s like Pret’s own version of This Water Lemon.
While we were eating out sandwiches Becca joined us. She’s so super lovely – exactly how I imagined she would be – she laughs lots and made me laugh lots.
We headed to the audition but we were a bit early so we sat in the foyer and chatted some more. The hotel that the audition was at was a Holiday Inn but it seemed really posh and so there was me in my jeans and I felt really underdressed lol.
We were first in and started filling in forms – we were given really big name labels so that when the production team took our pictures our names would be clear. I should hear in the next week whether or not our team qualifies for the TV show and things like that.
We then moved onto a quiz of sorts for most of the afternoon which was good fun – I was really gutted though because I started writing Romeo and Juliet for one of my answers only to second guess myself and change it to Midsummer Night’s Dream and it should have been Romeo and Juliet – argh! Hopefully they’ll see that I had started writing the correct answer and give me a half point or something lol.
We then played some rounds as a team – I got Food and Drink as my category – not my strength but I got my question right which was a good start for me. We got our head to head’s correct but we lost in sudden death – our question was What crime was the French watchmaker Robert Hubert hung for in 1666? Well we got the wrong end of the stick and was working from the French Watchmaker bit and we should have looked at the date. In 1666, it was the Great Fire of London and Hubert was hung for being an arsonist – he was believed to have started the fire.
Following the audition we headed for the tube, Matt and Dan were going one way and Becca needed to go the other so I headed with Becca towards the station so she could catch her train on time. (I was a more flexible when it came to getting home). Me and Becca went down the stairs to the platform, she hoped on the train and as I got to the door because I had to dodge someone the door closed. I waved at Becca and mouthed that I’d catch the next one – I meant that we’d catch our relative trains and then meet at Liverpool St where we were getting off.
As I got to Liverpool St, Becca got off the same train as me, she’d got off at the next tube stop and then waited and caught the next one which should have been mine (I got confused by something she said) but we found each other in the end.
We wandered round the shops at the station and then said goodbyes – it was so lovely to meet her in person and that mean that another of my 101 Things in 1001 Days is complete as well as 24 before 25 goals. Yup I have two goals list running at the same time.
I had a lovely time on Friday and now just need to wait for the phone call to come in. I’ll tell you about the rest of the trip tomorrow.
Found here.
Today was a reasonably chilled out day, I was kinda hoping for a lay in but it didn’t really happen. At 4 minutes to 8 this morning something woke me and I was bolt awake I tried dozing for about an hour but it was driving me mad so on the day I’d taken to recover from Sundays adventure I ended up getting up about 9-9:30am-ish.
I caught up on some TV and did some knitting. I managed to finish a scarf that I started back in March/April 2010 (I think). I got to the end and was trying to cast off but because it’s funny wool I couldn’t do it by myself so I need to go and ask Mum how to do it tomorrow. I made Chris breakfast in bed as he was being really lazy and having a mammoth lay in (I thought it was a sweet thing to do okay?!) then came downstairs to eat my own breakfast at about 11am! (This is probably why a large hot chocolate was enough to be lunch!)
I went to see Morning Glory at the cinema, which I really enjoyed. It was strange to be in the cinema at Monday lunchtime rather than a weekday evening. I went home and hung out with Chris some more. Did lots more knitting while I sat there half watching/listening to Terry Wogan’s Documentary about Ireland (Was very interesting).
Me and Chris organised to take out The Kiwi for Birthday tea. Mum, Dad and The Stig came too. I had New Yorker Pasta but had forgotten to ask for it without chilli – however when I ate it, it wasn’t that spicy so either the waitress remembered from when me and Chris went two or three weeks ago or the chef forgot to put some in (or didn’t put enough lol). The evening was full of lots of laughter, me and The Stig walked from the restaurant to the car singing “Ain’t That A Kick In The Head” at the top of our lungs. We got to the end of the song and my brother carrying on singing the words and I sang the tune that plays under the last note then we burst into hysterics.
We came home and I tried to finish the scarf but I couldn’t get it to cast off because of the funny bobbly bits in it – I need to take it to Mum’s tomorrow on the way home from work and see if I can get her to help me cast it off.
I’ve been mulling over about what to put in my Etsy store and I think some of these bobbly scarves might be the way forward – I can knock one out in nearly a day so theoretically I should be able to knock out 1 and a half in a weekend (and then finish the second one during the week. I think 1 ball is slightly too short and two is too long so they might be sold as longer scarves as well lol.
While knitting I watched The Holiday and The American President – I think it was beginning to annoy Chris when I was quoting it but on some bits he did laugh so it can’t have been that bad lol.
My other project that has been recently thrown at me is to knit a scarf in the style of Doctor Who (the length rather than the patterns) to be used in the Christmas Production that Chris is putting together. We’ll have to see how it goes – me and Mum could be knitting squares and then sewing them together to create the finished article.
One of my best friends moved further up north to study to be a teacher, she’s been having a rough patch and after Christmas wasn’t too happy about going back.
Well we came to the rescue. Two weeks or so ago we organised with Kewey’s boyfriend that we would go up to her parents and surprise her for the day. So today was the day. Oh man it was hard.
I’d like to think that I am pretty good at keeping secrets when it comes to surprise parties but do you think I could keep this one quiet – every time I spoke to her I wanted to tell her because I was excited that I was going to see her but I couldn’t tell her because that would ruin the surprise. So I kinda went to the other side and ignored her – not because she’d done something wrong to upset me or anything like that but because I didn’t want to wreck the surprise after all the work that had gone into it.
So today was the day and I could speak to Kewey again lol. Serena came and collected me at quarter to ten and we headed for the supermarket near Kewey’s Boyfriend’s house as there was a little change of plan.
We met there and then headed for the house. Me and Serena parked in the driveway and then I ran back up the street to wave at Andrew and Laura who weren’t sure where we were or where we were going.
We all parked and headed inside and Kewey was completely floored that we sorted this all out without her knowing.
We headed to a local pub for lunch which was lovely we were on a circle table so we could all join in the conversation without feeling like we were cut out or anything like that. I was going to have Pasta Giglio Romana or something like that but they were out of it so I had the same dish but with a tomato sauce instead or something like that. Laura misread it and kept calling it a gigolo which was kinda funny especially when the waitress asked her to repeat it lol.
After lunch we popped to Kewey’s house so she could pick up the Christmas presents and we chatted to Kewey’s parents for a few minutes – her Mum was upto the eyeballs with Ofsted stuff so we didn’t stop for long. We headed over to the local outlet place where Kewey’s sister works, we popped in to see her and say hello then wandered round the shops.
We all went for a hot chocolate at the Thornton’s Café and exchanged Christmas presents. From Laura I got two pairs of slipper socks, from Serena I got a pair of bright yellow socks with guitars and stars on them, a new belt with musical notes and other bits on it and some funky plasters which had kawaii characters on them (Serena pointed out this was an afterthought and she saw them and thought of me lol) and Kewey got me the Little Miss Sunshine book and a cuddly Little Miss Sunshine. I think that is Christmas 2010 finished now lol.
Me and Serena headed home and listened to the Top 40 chart most of the way home – I was a little frustrated as I knew hardly any of the songs. An Adele track was played so we turned up the radio and sang our socks off (when it had finished we turned it back down again lol) and then when Cee Lo Green came on we turned the radio up again. (Equally on the way we had Radio 1 on and it wasn’t till we got to Mansfield did I recognise two of the songs – one was Florence + The Machine and the other was Take That)
I think I am one of the few girls taking part in Blog Along Bond. Then again from the tweet I received the other day it’s possible that at the moment I am the only girl taking part. So what is it that I like about Bond, because surely as the only girl I should be launching into some feminist diatribe about how Bond completely uses girls to get ahead of the game and things like that. Well okay maybe he does do that, and as a teenager who was all for women’s rights etc I would have been shouting about feminism but having studied Screenwriting at uni and feminism at College, I’ve got a different of opinion now.
Anyho so what is Blog Along Bond. Well there are 22 months from now until the release of the 23rd James Bond Film is released at the cinema, so the idea is we watch and review the other 22 films before getting to the new one. (You can also read Rob’s explanation here on his blog aka The Incredible Suit.

The film is based ont he 1958 book by Ian Fleming. Original James was going to be played by Cary Grant (who appeared in a couple of Alfred Hitchcock films) but wouldn’t commit to more than one film. The story is based mainly in Jamaica, although some of the scenes are in London. The story starts with John Strangways, the British Intelligence Station Chief in Jamaica is ambushed and killed by three assassins, the same assassins then go to his home/office and kill his secretary (I thought she was his wife!). They leave with a file about Doctor No. When Strangways fails to check in with British Intelligence they raise the alarm and send James Bond after him with orders to investigate Strangways disappearance.
Bond arrives in Jamaica and the story then follows how he stumbles on Doctor No’s lair and his plot to mess with a rocket launch from Cape Canaveral and somewhere along the line is that iconic scene with Ursula Andress coming out of the water. In that way that James Bond films go, he discovers the plot and then nearly dies but comes back to save the day. Him and the Bond Girl leave off into the sunset.
Something I noticed (and I think others did) Was that at the end of From Russia With Love there is a title card that says along the lines of “James Bond returns in…..” whereas this doesn’t show at the end of Dr. No as if they weren’t sure it would be a hit and whether a sequel would follow it.
On the other hand, Dr. No introduces a lot of ideas that now appear throughout the other films. The opening sequence of the “Bond Girls”, the James Bond theme (The original tune was composed by Monty Norman but as time changed each film had it’s only slightly different incarnation), the gun barrel sequence, the Martini drink (“Shaken not Stirred” – which interestingly enough Bond himself doesn’t voice this until Goldfinger (1964), it’s voiced by other characters throughout the other films.)
Something else I noticed was that although there are gadgets in the film it’s not as big a focus as it becomes in later films.
So I had this plan yesterday, I was too tired to go to band so I was going to sit at home and do very little – or at least write some deep insightful blog posts lol.
Well that didn’t quite work out, Chris wanted to try updating my MacBook. It needed an OS update and in the meantime he was going to sort some other bits out. Apparently my MacBook didn’t agree with this and through about 5 episodes of Doctor Who and 2 episode of Torchwood Chris tried to update it.
Roll forward to about midnight when I surrender and go to sleep. I’m not sure how long Chris stayed up but I know it must have been longer than he really wanted to because he took my MacBook to pieces gave it a good clean and put it back together again to see if that made any difference. I kept joking about just giving up and getting a new one – then again if I could afford £840 ish for a new MacBook a ticket to Aussie wouldn’t be too far in the distance.
So I have the feeling that most of my blog posts will be just text as I post from my phone over the next few days while Chris tries to sort the MacBook for me.
I think the phrase is better late than never! Today was kinda hectic.

What made you start blogging?
No idea! An idea sparked in my head one day that I should be a blogger and that is what I did.
How long have you been blogging? Has it always been in the same place?
About a year and a half. Yes, blogger. I did write on Xanga years ago, but I never had plans to continue on for years and years…
WordPress, Blogger or other?
Blogger
Do you have a day job or is blogging your main thing?
Yes, I work full time as an internet sales manager and sales marketer for a retail fashion store in town. I have been there almost 4 years and I love it. I also go to school part-time and run my own internet business online selling shoes/purses. I am a busy gal!
Do you have specific blogs that inspire you?
Of course! Don’t we all! My favorite blogs are:
and
Finding inspiration is hard for me, because I have such high standards. Those who can blog without looking at stats or being super self-absorbed astound me.
If you could ask me one question (and I answer it) What would it be?
Ok sure! 🙂 What inspired you to start blogging?
Piece of advice for bloggers out there?
Be YOURSELF. Do not post something on your blog just to get followers, that is not how this works. If you are honest and real with your readers you will find the right people to be friends with in the blog-o-sphere. Quantity is not always quality.
Oh toughie lol. I started by just writing random notes on my MySpace account and just rants and the odd music video and then found – why don’t I have my own so set up a separate blog and then somehow I ended up with my blog here hosted myself. I guess somewhere along the line I’d become famous for my blog writing and have loads of readers but for now I just trundle along writing the way I want to write and if I get some lovely comments along the way that makes it fab too.
Found here.
Today I was on band so I had to be at church for 9:15 except between a lack of sleep and a lack of communication meant that neither of us had set an alarm. Oops. So we got dressed at speed and headed out to church.
Band had already started by the time we got there at about 25 past. So I took my place and jumped into the song at the next convenient moment.
By the end of the service my head wad really hurting and I was glad for going home for a little while. On the other hand one of my friends had exciting news to tell me. Her boyfriend proposed and she’s getting married this summer how exciting.
Technically we were going home so that we could have the sofa collected by the Freegle lady. Chris sorted the sofas and I crashed for an hour – it was a good sleep but really I needed longer.
So the sofa was collected and Chris woke me up so that I could see the balancing act that was going on outside. (I really wish I’d been more on the ball so that I could have taken a picture. It reminded me of the bikes you see some places where they have all their worldly possessions balanced on top of it.)
We went to our friend’s house for the student lunch. Technically I’m not a student any more and Chris is the closest person our church has to a Student Worker so somehow the invite gets extended to us (depending on who is hosting)
After lunch we stayed for a little while longer and played Dance Central and Kinect Adventures on the XBox 360 – I love it and would really consider saving up for an XBox and Kinect – its definitely better than “Just Dance” on the Wii.
Following that we came home so Chris could prep for 24/7 in the evening – well I still felt pants so went back to bed again lol.
That was about 5ish and I woke up again around 7 or 8ish. I’m still awake now but I hope I can sleep after today’s crazy napping.
I started reading Left Behind: Soul Harvest, will probably reach 100 pages before bedtime.
So all in all that was my Sunday. Lots of music sleep and fun lol. How was your weekend? What did you get up to?
