{Fill In The Blanks Friday}

1. The best news I ever received was that Chris wanted to marry me and that I passed my degree after nearly not making it into university.

2. Something I’m looking forward to is the next year – there are some crazy changes that might happen around here and so we’ll see how it all goes.

3. Something I would never do is bungie jump – then again maybe I could – I’m just worried that I’d freak out because I can’t see without my glasses I supposed I could wear contacts just for that day.

4. If I could choose someone to be my life coach (famous or not, living or dead), I’d choose a Christian lady who had her feet firmly planted on the path going for God.

5. If I had to put a label on my style it would be difficult! It changes everyday – I used to think of myself as a goth but I was too happy and wore too many colours with the black to be a goth so I think hippy was my term for a bit. Emo was the other one that stuck too! Again too happy to be emo it doesn’t work. I had a whole conversation about “How do you define being a hipster?”

6. One should always treat others with the respect that you would expect from them.

7. I want to travel around the world (not necessarily in one go it might have to be lots of little trips – but I’m 25 and I plan to be really old before I die lol) and write about it as I go – either lots of notes so I can write a book or blog my way round the world – Then again if I’m going to get someone to pay for my trip round the world I need to come up with something that makes my trip different. I’ll start by blogging my part of Chris’s Land’s End to John O’Groats trip in September.

Your Most Emotional Travel Experience

Today is a short post – partly because I’m writing it at about 00:30 on Friday morning (Rather than Thursday) but also because to me it’s in the past. My most emotional travel experience was Barcelona. There were so many good memories and some not so good memories. I have a few stand out moments.

One involves this song:

The other was standing in this building:

Sagrada Familia

And my third was stood at the Olympic Stadium humming this to myself.

{BHamVintageFair: Promo Video}

While we were there on Saturday, the lovely Rebecca from Glacier Films was there taking clips here and there and this is the finished promo video for the Vintage Fair – it’s so exciting especially to see something I made on video too! (I make two appearances near the beginning and then my product appears around 2:18 I think…..but blink and you’ll miss it lol.

Hopefully my creations will also be on Etsy soon.

{BHamVintageFair: Part Two}

While I was packing on Thursday, Chris asked me was I taking my MacBook with me – to which I replied “No I wouldn’t need it”, having said that I over used my phone posting as many tweets as I could about the whole event and then could have written the review of the day on the train on the way home – so maybe next time I should be parked in a corner with my MacBook and an internet dongle and then going to visit each stand and come back and blog about it to my hearts content. (Maybe this needs to be suggested to Rickie!).

Right anyway, back to the point. We arrived at the venue and there were quite a few people there already. We managed to get tables reshuffled and move sofas and things like that so we were all about in the right place. I set up my little bench with my items on it. It was to the side of Rickie’s Rhinestone Cowgirl stand so I have the feeling it kept getting confused and was merging into her stand rather than being one of it’s own. Anyway, I had a lovely time. I got my stand set up and then answered questions where I could then settled down to knit between customers. I didn’t have very many in the morning but I think it was because I was kinda hiding behind the clothing rail. I ended up standing up to knit which although can be done is a little uncomfortable in the end.

There were two bands who played during the day. One is Naked Remedy and the other is Dakesis. They were both very good but both very loud. By the end of Naked Remedy’s first set my brain felt like it had been wrapped in cotton wool. I guess this was the problem with my stand being the closest to the stage. Then again it gave me prime position for photos. My favourite song of all the sets was Dakesis’s cover of Cum On Feel The Noize by Slade.

During the day I grabbed a sandwich from one of the stands and also a hot chocolate from More Cocoa – it was epic! there was a dollop of melted chocolate in the bottom and then a bunch of milk was mixed it with it. It was so yummy! I had a brief chat with one of the lovely ladies from UrbanCoffeeCo but she had to dash off because there was  queue forming so we didn’t actually finish our conversation.

I made two sales which was more than I thought I would lol. I even finished making another mobile phone case while I was there. I had lots of fun and loved looking round the stands – the main issue I find with vintage clothing is that I am too big for it (I really need a 16 – 14 is still pushing it a bit) I bought a headband and then saw @stylengrit tweet about this fab dino necklace but then I couldn’t find the stand who were selling it. I stayed till 5 and helped clear up a bit but then it was time for me to head home again.

{BHamVintageFair}

It was the first time that I’d caught a train from Milton Keynes so I was a little worried about making sure I was there on time and things like that. I’d booked my tickets in advance so I just needed to find my platform – which was easy enough it was the one the furthest away. I grabbed a drink and some cash before heading through the station to the platform. Okay please appreciate my geek-ness for a sec. A few weeks ago I watched a documentary presented by Richard Hammond about The Bullet Train. Now although we don’t have Bullet Trains in the same way they have them in Japan – the Pendolino train is getting closer than a normal train. I stood on the platform and got rather excited that not only was I going to Birmingham I could be going on a Pendolino train. (I think somewhere if I had a bucket list “Ride the Bullet Train in Japan” would be high on the list. Hence why I was excited!). So I text my Dad and ask him about “How can you tell the difference between a Pendolino and a normal train?”, “Does it lean really far or enough that I’ll feel a difference”, Yes I know I ask really random questions but my Dad is the kinda guy who would know this stuff. The full name of the Pendolino is an Alstom Class 390 Pendolino. (GEEK!!)

Right back to the point so I’m going from Milton Keynes to Birmingham, The train is coming from London Euston so it’s packed of people getting home for the weekend. I got on the train but really should have walked along the platform and then got onto it – the train was packed and I’m pretty sure I hit one person at least with my bag (I’m sorry if you are that person and you are now reading this – it wasn’t intentional). So I find my seat. It’s a window and the lady in the aisle seat is really grumpy. I’d later find out that she’d been on a craft day or something as she had a craft case. I sat down in my seat and got comfortable. The lady next to me spent the whole trip leaning into the aisle as if I was taking up a seat and a half. (I’m pretty sure I wasn’t but doesn’t really help when I’m having a spazz about my self image anyway lol).

So I read and write and listen to music all the way to Birmingham. I have text message and tweet conversations with various people including my Dad and Rickie. I arrive at Birmingham and it’s packed to the rafters – I don’t actually know if I’m heading the right way but I figure I’ll follow the flow and either find Rickie or find a shop to wait in/by until Rickie can track me down. I got through the barriers and there she was. Well kinda, another guy who had been walking along my left hand side before the barrier decided that he didn’t like that side and walked straight in front of me without really pausing so I nearly walked into him. Rickie was very excited and nervous and stuff all at the same time (about the same as I was!) We walked back to Rickie’s via the supermarket and then via her favourite coffee shop so that she could show me where it was. It’s one of those places we regularly discuss and now I’ve seen it in person (well the doorstep – we were on a bit of a mission.) I’d really not packed very well, I’d brought one pair of jeans with me in the hope that I was packing light but at the same time didn’t bring a coat. As we left the station there was a torrential downpour happening outside (I’m surprised I don’t have a cold – if I did it would be my own fault!) We got to Rickie’s and I changed into my pyjama bottoms so that I could put my jeans over the bath to dry at least a little bit. Friday evening consisted of eating fish and chips – I even tried mushy peas – which is pretty much crazy for me I never do that kinda thing.

Having dried off a bit, Rickie wrote a to do list of all the bits and pieces we needed to do to finish before bedtime. Included in this list was “#PaintTheTownYellow” this is what Rickie had dubbed – sticking up posters that direct people from the main thoroughfare to the venue. Easy – but then add in the rain. So we came up with a plan – I’d hold the post in it’s plastic pocket to a lamppost and Rickie would tape it on. We headed back to the flat – put on the Glastonbury coverage on BBC – Rickie even put up with U2 for me which was really sweet. We headed off to bed and got ready for the next day. I was kinda dozing when I got a text from my friend – I was kinda trying to ignore it as my phone was across the other side of the room on the dining room table but at the same time I wanted/needed to read it and I’m glad I did – it was a prayer request from one of the girls at church. I couldn’t really ignore it so sat on the sofa bed for about 10-15 minutes and prayed through her request. I then curled up and headed off for sleep.

I think I woke up around 4 or 5am and managed to doze off again but it was really light sleep so the tiniest noise and I came to again. I dozed for a bit and in the end got up and played with my phone. Around 8ish it was my turn to grab a shower, so I did what was needed then got dressed. My jeans and t-shirt had been through the tumble drier when we got home so that they would be completely dry for me to wear out again on Saturday. We did a couple of last minute bits round the flat and then when Rickie’s sidekicks arrived we got the cars loaded. Me, Rickie and Prefect Number 1 walked up to the venue while Prefect Number 2 and Rickie’s friend drove the cars.

The idea behind this is that readers of For The Love of Blogs send in their questions and then the readers answer them. You can then share the love by commenting on other peoples responses.

1.) How long have you been blogging and How Long do you stay on the computer per day?

I’ve been blogging for about 5 years here and there – I started with Notes on MySpace and Live Journal, tweaked a bit with Xanga but ended up settling with WordPress in the end. I then went to self-hosted with WordPress.org rather than a dot com account. I spend way too much time on the computer – I’m on it from about 9am through to 5:30pm then I get home around 6pm and can spend anything up to 4 hours on the computer in the evening (or more especially as our TV runs through a computer system).

2.) Do you schedule your posts and/or keep a bunch of posts in drafts? (I talk about this in our upcoming e-course.)
I have a bunch of posts scheduled for series like Travel Thursday and things like that because often I get muddled which day of the week it is so I tend to spend a whole Saturday afternoon writing a bunch of posts to spread out over the next few weeks so that they go regularly even if I’m having a mental block and think it’s Wednesday when it’s actually Thursday and things like that. I also have a bunch in drafts at the moment as I keep starting ideas and not finishing them. I plan to work my way through them and delete or complete.

3.) Do you make money off your blog? If so, tell us how {via sponsors, monetizing}-Share your success. If not, tell us if you’d like to and what you need from us to help you. {We discuss sponsorship in our e-course as well}.
I make a little bit by sponsored posts. At the moment I have a fee paying link on the side bar (that’s paid for the link to be there for the year). I often (like once a month or two months) have a sponsored post where I receive a product rather than money. The most recent ones include 3 months free with a DVD Rental website in exchange for a review of their service and new pair of trainers in exchange for a review of their website (these are both to follow in the next few weeks) These were both organised through FuelMyBlog, I’ve had one where I replied to a tweet that was sent out, explained that I wasn’t a food blogger but I regularly write reviews and have reviewed chocolate in the past. I’ve also done ones where I’ve bought a new product or used as a service and I’ve been happy with it (I’ve also written about bad experiences – and had a geeky moment when I was recognised in a pizza restaurant in town – that was funny!)

{Fill in The Blanks Friday}

Prompts from The Little Things We Do.

1. The last thing I ate was Coronation Chicken and Sweetcorn sandwich for lunch I think then again it could have been Polos.

2. The next thing I’d like to eat is my tea please? I think it’ll be Fish and Chips because it’s Fish and Chips Friday at Rickie’s. First I have to catch my train to Birmingham and remember to get off at the right stop (especially as I might see if I can get off one early and go for a wander round the Bullring)

3. The best things come to those who wait – it’s cheesy I know but how many times does something get better if you just wait (or wait out the bad stuff).

4. Something that makes me supremely and utterly happy is hanging out with friends and going on adventures – I think I get worried about the adventures and then I’m fine – like today I was really worried this morning that I had forgotten something – I think my actually forgotten feeling was to do with not taking my chipped nail varnish off my fingers but I can sort that when I get to Birmingham so that’s all good and I think I’m chilled again now.

5. Sports are okay but not my favourite. I’m half following the Tennis at the moment because it would be really good to see Murray get to the Men’s Final. I was about to write how it would be really good if Laura Robson beat Sharapova but it turns out she lost. On the other hand it’s like Laura’s first or second time in the actual Women’s competition rather than the Juniors competiton so to play on Centre Court against a previous champion deserves a hi-five anyway!

6. I miss Kewey! I saw LB and Serena on Monday but haven’t seen Kewey since I popped in on the way back from Stockport at the end of April. Miss her loads!

7.Right now I am in the car with my Mum. She’s taking me to MK so I can catch the train. I could have got the bus but there would have been no guarantee whether I’d be able to catch my train in time.

Your Most Enjoyable Journey

This is a hard one – there’s Turkey because it was the first time I went on a plan, Amsterdam because of the epic train trip right through the Dutch countryside or Corcieux/Strasbourg because between me and Chris we drove all the way and all the way back (and not the most direct route because it was cheaper than toll roads!).
Well actually Corceiux/Strasbourg would have been better had it not been for the near accident outside the ferry terminal – we were still getting used to French roads lol.
Okay so I’m not really sure which would have been most enjoyable out of the three so I’ll doa little blurb of each. (I can change the rules right?)

Turkey

Well I was excited before I’d even left the house to go to the airport – I was 19 and had never been on a plane (my family always went away to a cottage or in our caravan growing up – my friends went to Spain or France – we went to Wales or Yorkshire or somewhere with a campsite lol.). It was my first proper without parents trip. Okay I’d been away with school in the past and was going with my Aunt and friends from church but there was something about it that made it my proper without parent’s trip. We headed off from Bedford about 4am and caught our plane from Heathrow; I have strange pictures taken from the gangway and out of the window including random ones of clouds and the wing of the plane – I was too excited to take proper pictures! Lol.

Amsterdam

I keep talking about Amsterdam but it’s one of the most recent holidays I’ve had lol. We got the ferry from Harwich in the UK to Hoek Van Holland. We then caught the train from there across to Amsterdam -I think our return journey came via Rotterdam and we had to change trains but the going journey was a straight run. It was lovely to see the Dutch countryside and try to spot Windmills and things like that.

Corcieux/Strasbourg

So Corcieux, I think it was 2005 or 2006 that me, Chris and his sister went camping in Corcieux which is down the road from Strasbourg. It was one of the first times I went away with Chris and so it had novelty value lol. We had gone in May so it was still early in the season. We were quite near the Germany border and the guy who was in charge of the campside told as that over the border at the same altitude in Germany there was snow -which was funny because the night before I’d had a whole dream about waking up to inches of snow outside on the ground.

It was the first time that I drove on the continent. Chris drove off the ferry and the first leg, as we came out of the ferry terminal we went to turn right but Chris was slightly distracted and nearly pulled out in front of a car because of it being on the other side of the road and things like that. We then went to a store and I asked in my (broken) attempt at French if there was a petrol station near by. The french lady was really grumpy and rude. We headed from Calais northwards towards Dunkirk and then on to the Belgium border.

It was an epic car trip but was so much fun once I had the hang of continental roads. The scariest bit was on the autobahn but it was okay in the end.

{Wee Bit Wednesday: No 5}

Technically this should have been posted on Wednesday but with every spare minute of this week been devoted to sleep or knitting, I’ve just got round to doing this – it’s been sat as a draft since Wednesday evening lol.

{one} what color best describes you + why?
I’m not actually that sure lol. I think my friends would say pink or purple but I seem to leave in jeans so that would be blue, or I wear black or grey trousers at work lots so it could be one of those.

{two} how have you changed in the past year?
I’ve taken on more responsibility at work and at church both with regards to social media. Also (although in the last few weeks rather than in the last year) I’ve finally pulled my finger out and started making handmade bits to sell both in person and on Etsy. (As you can see from yesterday’s post about the fair.)

{three} have you ever had any surgeries?
Nope, well apart from teeth extractions – do those count?

{four} why did you start your blog?
Originally it was somewhere to rant and deal with stuff and somehow it turned into this thing lol.

{five} what are you looking forward to this summer?
Erm, not sure – I don’t really have a holiday booked so it’s not that. I’m going on an epic road trip with Chris (Well he’s cycling and I’m the support crew! Look here for more info)

{six} do you have any family traditions for the 4th of July?
Nope because it’s not celebrated here in the UK like it is in America 🙂

{seven} what’s something new that you’ve tried in the past few months?
Soap making.

{eight} what is the perfect a/c temperature?
I have no idea – not too hot not too cold maybe?!

{nine} what was the last movie you saw in the theater?
On Friday I saw Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. It was good but wasn’t the same without Keira Knightly and Orlando Bloom creating havoc as well.

{ten} what song do you think everyone should hear at least once?
Am I biased if I say one of the songs that my friends Alex and Suzie performed at the concert last night? I think my favourites would be A Love Like Yours or What A Difference. Take a listen please.

Happy Father’s Day

Today is Father’s Day.

This is me and my Dad at my Aunt’s wedding a few years ago – I think I get my brains and my craziness from him (my crafty side comes from my Mum I think!)

Happy Father’s Day Dad. Thank you for all you do for me. Love you 🙂

(I posted this post as part of Saturday Snapshot on Yellow Songbird but forgot to link oops! The link is here.)

{This Week}

I have so much to write about but I’m not sure I can remember all the bits I want to include.

Bullet Points are the way forward for now. Starting with a negative.

Earlier this week I was reading Web Time Wasters on Yes and Yes. I clicked on a link about Child Brides. It broke my heart! It’s so sad that there are girls who are as young as 5 or 6 getting “engaged”. There are girls as young as 13 being married. It kinda boggled my brain – My friend’s daughter is 5 – I can’t even comprehend her getting engaged/married at that age – to her marriage is when a mummy and daddy love each other – or Prince Charming meets the Princess and they live happily ever after. My “little sister” is 12 – (she’s not really my sister but she’s as good as a sister so I look at her that way). She’s sitting her end of year exams this week and again I can’t even imagine that in those cultures she’d be getting married.

I’m not trying to dismiss it because it is serious and it does happen. Let’s move onto the positives.

Next weekend is Birmingham Vintage Fair. I’m going which is really exciting. You can find out more information here, pop by if you’re in the area.

I’ve been knitting loads and at some point this week will be making candles. It’s the first craft fair I’m going to as myself rather than helping out my Mum. I’m not sure which of the things I’ve made will sell the best but I’m hoping to make enough to cover lunch lol.

My Mum got me two DVDs for my birthday and somewhere along the line Mum had put them in a safe place and forgot to get them out again for my birthday. She found them on Thursday, so in the last few days I’ve watched a whole season of Pushing Daisies (Well 9 episodes it’s not loads) and Long Way Down (Ewan MacGregor and Charley Boorman go on a road trip from John O’Groats, Scotland to Cape Town, South Africa) while knitting and things like that.

This evening I went to see my friends Suzie and Alex do a concert. Their album is available on iTunes and through their website (I think if you go through their website then more money goes to the two events they are raising money for rather then iTunes where Apple take a chunk.)

So I’m sure i had more to write but I’m not really sure.

Travel Thursday: Your Favourite Restaurant You Have Visited

I’m sorry I think we’re back on Amsterdam again but before we go there I’m going to rave about the Pizza Hut in London. When me and Chris stayed at that B+B I mentioned in last weeks Travel Thursday, we went to find a Pizza Hut because we knew it wouldn’t be too expensive but would fill us up. We headed up to Leicester Square and that direction as we figured there would be one nearby. We eventually found one in Haymarket (with help from smart phones I think!) Well Chris is kinda a bit of a connoisseur when it comes to his pizza – it’s gotta be just right lol. His opinion of Pizza Hut was based on the two branches we used to have in Bedford (we’re down to one now). Well we were floored our waiter was so helpful, when he finished his shift in the middle of our meal, he brought over his replacement and introduced him and said that he was taking over etc. He went out the back to grab his coat etc. When he came back our table he realised our glasses were empty so he put his coat on and went and got us refills – every time we go to London and we’re in the neighbourhood (and even when we’re not because London seems all squished together) and we need tea or lunch we often head to that Pizza Hut because everytime we’ve been they have been lovely and incredibly helpful even when they are busy.

Anyhoo so after that my close favourite if not my number 1 outside of the UK is Wok 2 Walk – plain and simply it’s a genius idea. You decide what meat/veggie option you want and then like Subway you decide what noodles you want, want vegetables you want and what sauce and then they cook it for you – you can get it on a plate and eat in store or grab your takeaway chopsticks and your box and head out. Often when we stayed in store people share tables as they are long wooden ones – kinda like you’d expect in a banquet hall (actually they reminded me of the really long tables in Harry Potter but chopped down in to dining room size). I just found out from the website that there is one in London – might have to see if the experience is just as good this side of the North Sea lol.

You can find the prompts and join in by taking a look at Ian’s blog.

{Monday Moos}

The idea behind this is that readers of For The Love of Blogs send in their questions and then the readers answer them. You can then share the love by commenting on other peoples responses.

So these are today’s questions and the members who asked them:

King Corvid
“What do you do when you run out of things to do on the internet?”

Is it possible to run out of things to do on the internet? If I run out of things I start commenting on as many friends’ FB statuses or Twitter messages as I can. With Twitter you can tweet as much as you like but it’s about connecting so it’s good to talk to other people.

Delaney
“How do you gain and keep followers?”

I don’t actually know lol. I guess you go through seasons so sometimes people are in your life for a reason and then they go away again or they stay. I think that’s the same with blog followers. Also talk to them – make them feel welcome – respond to the comments that they leave on your blog.

Emma
“What are your blogging inspirations?”
My day to day life is a huge chunk of it. That’s where I start writing and then I see what happens after that. The blogs that inspire me include LacyLike, Life in Technicolour and Today’s Letters.

“Do you edit your posts?”
Sometimes – I might go back and realise that there are mistakes or things that need tweaking and then change them. Also I might want to add bits but there isn’t enough for a whole post so I add a few sentences on the end.

“How much time do you spend blogging?”
It can vary, I can spend a whole Saturday on writing lots of posts to spread out over the next few weeks or so – other times I go for a whole fortnight and write like two posts.

So this is all I feel the brain power to do. It suddenly dawned on me at the weekend that the Birmingham Vintage Fair that Rickie is organising is in two weekends time (well it’s not this weekend coming but the one after) and we’d discussed about me taking some of the bits and pieces that I can make and see how well they go down (and the bits that aren’t used can be put onto Etsy and I can open my store). On Saturday we went shopping for some bits so that I could kick off two of my ideas (well actually we were going for the first idea and Chris sprung up with another idea – I think he secretly choose it because it would involve melting things and pretending to be a scientist for a bit! We started Part One yesterday because it only took a few minutes followed by cooling time. Part Two might be this evening – between knitting Part Three. Thankfully they are all reasonably small bits so I can carry them in my overnight bag on the train.

Music Monday: X, Y, Z is For….

Image from Here. Idea from Rickie’s blog.

X is for….

I could think of any for X. So here we go with Y and Z

Y is for….Yellowcard

1. Everywhere by Yellowcard

Z is for….Ziggy Stardust

Okay so technically Ziggy was the alter ego of David Bowie so here are the songs.

1. Life On Mars

2. Ashes to Ashes

3. Space Oddity

4. Starman

{Fill In The Blanks Friday}

1. This weekend I’m going out with Chris and I’m “dragging” him to one of my favourite craft stores. I have one thing to buy that is it – I promise well maybe it might be 2 things but I’ll try not to spend more money than I need to lol.

2. My last vacation was good question – I’ve had time off work but my last holiday was erm when I went to Paris last May – yep this time last year was my last holiday and actually going somewhere – then again it was two days does that count?

3. My next vacation will be well at the moment I don’t have one booked. I have an overnight visit to Birmingham in a few weeks time and might be going to Nottingham in September but that’s again over night and I’m not actually 100% sure I am going for that one at the moment. Other than that I have no holidays booked. In an ideal world where my bills were paid and I could take the time off I’d take 2-3 weeks off and go to Australia and New Zealand.

4. My favorite way to relax is to flop out on the sofa and watch movies – I might even blog at the same time (oh yeah that’s what I’m doing at the moment!)

5. When vacationing one should always just go for a wander and see what you find. Take note of your route too so you can get back to where you’re staying!

6. When vacationing one should never worry about what you’re eating – yes it’s probably bad for you but you’re on holiday so don’t worry about it.

7. The best part about a vacation is that feeling when you get home – there’s a point when you just want to be home and then you get there and you appreciate your home so much more some how.

The worst hotel/accommodation you have stayed in

The worst accommodation that I’ve stayed in would be the B+B near Earls Court that me and Chris stayed in, it was called the Hotel Olympia. We’d gone to London for a few days to have a break from the craziness in Bedford. Chris had found this B&B about 5-10 minutes’ walk from Earls’ Court tube station as well as that it was close to the centre but wasn’t going to break the bank price wise. It wasn’t too bad but our room was on the ground floor at the front of the building so we had cars and ambulances belting past the window all night.

I think the point of the trip to London was to celebrate our first wedding anniversary. Unfortunately due to the lack of sleep I was getting I was not in the best mood for walking round London and things like that.

{one} How many times have you been a bridesmaid/maid of honour?
Once, I was about 2 or 3 and it was for my auntie and uncle.

{two} What’s the last thing you do before you fall asleep at night?
Read or check that my alarm is set.

{three} You just won your dream vacation, all expenses paid. where are you going?
Australia and/or New Zealand. I’d go to Melbourne and see my friends who emigrated out there in 2004, I’d go to Canberra/Woolongong and meet Rubyam and Brandroidattack (Along with all their friends that I’ve been introduced to via Twitter including Emma and Nathan).

{four} what is your favorite outdoor activity?
Playing on the trampoline – well it’s good fun to hang out in the garden anyway.

{five} as a child, what did you want to “be when you grew up”? did you end up there?
I never could make up my mind. I wanted to be a lawyer, then a doctor, then a vet, then a paramedic. Even now at 25 I’m not really sure I know what I want to be when I’ve grown up. I do my day job and my “5 to 9” job is kinda coming together but I’m not sure how much I can do at the same time as doing my day job (and ultimately for now the 5 to 9 can’t impede on the day job.

{six} what are 3 things your dream home would have that you don’t currently have?
A spare bedroom/study (then again it would just gain rubbish at the moment), a dining room, that’s two I can’t think of another.

{seven} what’s for dinner tonight?
I have no idea!

{eight} if someone stopped by your house unannounced on a typical Saturday night, what would they find you doing?

Watching Doctor Who or working through some DVDs

{nine} what’s your average monthly water bill?

I have no idea lol. Our Water is quarterly I think and our gas and electric is a set amount per month and that covers what we use.

{ten} what do you do to relax?

Hang out and watch movies. Also knit lots.

Travel Thursday

Travel Thursday: The best hotel/accommodation you have stayed in

The hotel in Amsterdam (sorry three posts in a row for Travel Thursday and I’ve mentioned Amsterdam!) then again maybe the Hotel in Paris wins. Actually the people at the Amsterdam hotel were more friendly than the people at the Paris Hotel.

The hotel we stayed in, in Amsterdam is called the Hotel Acro. It was easy to find, you get the tram from the Centraal Station and then get off at Hobbemastraat – that simple. Apparently it’s about 1 minute walk from the tram stop – I’d say it was nearer 3 but I guess the first time you look for it, it’s always going to be a little longer than expected lol.

It’s 2 star so I think they get a lot of families and backpackers because it’s relatively cheap – we were on the ground floor pretty much behind reception – I think you had to go up steps into reception anyway so it was kinda first floor if you count the basement as ground floor, we had an ensuite room and were on B&B fees. We were close enough to the centre that we could get takeaway from the main shopping area hop on the tram and get back to the hotel and it still be hot.

We dropped off our stuff and then went for a wander – when we came back we were given a complimentary bottle of champagne (I think they were aware that it was our honeymoon even if we hadn’t said it lol).

They were lovely – especially when we had questions. There was a bar that was opened in the evenings and there was internet for a small charge (yes I went on FB and changed my marital status lol – Kewey had been entrusted with my password to upload photos but not to change my status lol)

So yeah Amsterdam wins 🙂

{one} do you believe in ghosts?
I’m not really sure – I think I did when I was younger – I have no idea why but there you go lol. So no I don’t think I do belive in ghosts.

{two} are you more of a talker or more of a listener?
I think I am more a listener but I do have the tendancy to ramble when it comes round to being my turn to speak.

{three} would you rather get up early or sleep late?
Sleep in late – then again when I do get up I feel guilty for not achieving as much as if I’d got up early. I’m not really a morning person so although I don’t like getting up early if I’m up early for a particular reason then I’m usually in a better mood.

{four} if you could instantly become an expert at one type of dance, what type would you choose?
Hip hop or Contemporary – I did Contemporary at University but I can’t say I was ever that good really lol.

{five} what’s your favorite drink?
Alcoholic: JD and Cola. Nonalcoholic: Blackcurrant and Apple squash or diet cola – yep so healthy lol.

{six} if your house caught fire and you could only grab three things, what would they be?
I know it’s really lame but my MacBook or the hard drive – all my photos are on one or the other. I’d be really gutted if I lost them all. I think most other things can be replaced, okay it would be a shame that my stuff would get lost but it can be replaced if needed. The photos can’t be.

{seven} if you could only visit one restaurant for the next five years, which would it be?
Wok 2 Walk – I went to one in Amsterdam and found out yesterday that there is one in London as well.

{eight} who inspires you the most?
My Mum or my Grandma I think. Then again my Dad and Grandads are pretty cool chaps as well lol. Yes I can’t make up my mind.

{nine} if you had your own talk show, who would your first three guests be?
Zooey Deschanel, Prof Brian Cox (would it be too much to debate Creationism vs Darwinism?) and C.S. Lewis (BTW do they have to be alive? That could be an issue other wise lol)

{ten} sneakers or sandals?
Sneakers out of those two.

{This Weekend}

I was about to start this post with “I really failed on my to do list” but actually having looked back down it I did do quite a lot.

{one} Washing – well no washing got done – I woke up Saturday morning and had meant to do it but because I went to sleep around 3am I didn’t actually wake up until about 11am. When I did wake up I’d done something to my neck and couldn’t turn my neck towards my right shoulder – I got to a certain point and all the muscles in my neck and back started hurting. I ended up sitting in front of the TV for most of the day not doing very much because it was hurting to do normal stuff as well.

{two} Watch Doctor Who – well I managed this – and the end was like “Okay so when did that happen?” I can’t say any more than that without giving away spoilers.

{three} Tweak poster for A Love Like Yours – this was done as soon as I got home on Friday. After work I went to the charity shop to empty the boot of the car as I’d had some bags of bits to go to the charity shop that kept getting moved round. I also bought 3 new tops while I was there. I then came home and edited the poster before emailing off to the relevant people.

{four} Put Clothes away from (last) weekend – Now I think this happened Saturday evening when the painkillers had kicked in and I was feeling more human – or it might have been Sunday before bed – I’m not sure that bit of my weekend got all muddled lol

{five} Find a recipe for Eton Mess – done, I found a recipe here and tweaked it a bit.

{six} Make Eton Mess (and blog it)– Well I forgot to take pictures so couldn’t really blog about it – the first attempt was a little too much cream and not enough meringue and fruit so that will be tweaked for next time – Dad said it needed chunks of fruit rather than just the mushed strawberries to make the cream pink.

{seven} Finish His Image, My Image by Josh McDowell – this didn’t happen with the sore neck and sleeping most of Saturday (and then dozing off Sunday afternoon in front of the TV) I seemed to lose most of my weekend lol.

Thankfully with yesterday being a bank holiday I thought I’d be able to chill a bit and enjoy the day in Cambridge. Well at 7am ish when Chris woke me up I had a headache so he let me go back to sleep for another hour – technically it was supposed to be about half an hour but then he was busy doing other stuff. I got up and drank about a litre of fluid before leaving the house I also took paracetamol to kick my headache into orbit. That worked temporarily but by lunch time it came back and I had to take some more painkillers – again it went but came back around tea time. Anyway so I took the first lot and we headed off to church. Chris went to get the minibus key and decided – as I’m now allowed to drive the minibus I should move it out of the driveway and round to the front of church. Well because the driveway goes onto a residential street that has cars parked both sides of the road it was easier said than done – it was strange getting used to the bonnet being so shallow in comparison to a car bonnet. I was up to the wing mirrors getting it out of the drive way and Chris kept saying “Mind the mirrors, mind the mirrors” I think I told him to shut up at that point because I was concentrating on getting out of the drive way in one piece and remembering the turning circle is completely different (when turning left you kinda have to aim for the wrong side of the junction to get the back end round without clipping the curb). Well I was fine out of the driveway I then took the corner to turn up Denmark Street into the front of church a little too tight and I clipped the curb – I think I then wiggled it and parked too far away from the curb but it was fine while we got everyone on the bus and sorted. The Murf even took a picture of me behind the wheel.

That was fine, I was all ready to hand over to Caz to drive to Cambridge as she’s our Minibus person in our Connect Group, somewhere in here Chris decides that I should drive – I need to get used to it. Well I freak and I get all proper worried – first time I drove a car it was me and my instructor – first time I drove a car post-test me and my Dad. First time driving the mini bus properly, Chris, Caz, The Murf, and like 9 other people (4 being under 15!) were there to observe my first time lol.

Well we made it to Cambridge and I was very glad to get out and stand on the pavement – it wasn’t a bad journey as there was very little traffic (For a bank holiday then again it was about 10am by the time we got to Cambridge).

We went punting and I was grateful for the rest lol. It was nice to chill out and take pictures and things.I tend decided that I had to have a go – which was fine but I nearly fell in the river – that would have been funny but very cold.

After we’d been punting we had a picnic next to the river – it was good but it was getting a bit cloudy and cooler.

1. If I could get away somewhere for the weekend I would go Paris – it’s just far enough away to feel like a holiday but on the train it’s like 3 hours so it’s not too far for a weekend and I would bring would you like to come? I guess I should take Chris but at the same time having a girlie weekend would be so much fun.

2. Something I often rant about is work probably.

3. One item I need to have in my fridge at all time is milk because you can’t make a cup of tea without it and you can’t have a bowl of muesli without it. Then again I don’t drink that much tea so that’s mainly to feed Chris cups of tea when he’s being grumpy lol.

4. My “life-saving” product is hair spray or dry shampoo – if you have the time to wait for the shampoo to take etc then dry shampoo is awesome for those days when you don’t have time to wash your hair – if it’s a bad hair day and there’s no time then put hairspray in your hair – if mine is tied back in a ponytail then hairspray just works and somehow makes my hair look at least semiclean lol.

5. A friend is someone who who replies to your email asking a really dumb question because they know that the answer could be the difference between you sleeping or freaking out (Thank you Becca and Ruby!). A friend is someone who drives the extra 5 miles to go via your house just to say hi (I did this at the end of April rather than going straight down the M1 to home I drove the 5 miles to my friend’s house near Nottingham to say hi and then drove those 5 miles back to get on the M1 to come home).

6. If I could write my own blank it would be “If you could be a character in a book who would you be {blank} and why? {blank}”

7. My favourite kind of art is pop art like Lichenstein or photography. I also like Monet and Da Vinci.

Travel Thursday: The worst/most disappointing place you have visited

When Chris and I went to Amsterdam we stopped over in Harwich at a B and B from the Saturday through to the Monday morning when our ferry was going across the North Sea. The lady who owned the B+B was lovely and helpful, the bed was comfortable enough for two nights but outside of that, there wasn’t that much to do. The B+B was in Dovercourt which is part of Harwich.

Having handed in my dissertation, turning 21 and getting married in the space of about two weeks, by the Sunday after the wedding, it had caught up with me I was exhausted. We wandered through the town trying to find a newsagent so that we could sort some lunch and get some painkillers. Just trying to get my brain to focus on anything other than the pain was really too much effort! I think we did try to find something to do but there really wasn’t anything to do –I guess we could have caught the train (or walked lol) up to Harwich itself to see what there was. Sunday afternoon we caught the little ferry from Harwich over to Felixstowe to see one of Chris’s college friends – yeah I know kinda random on our honeymoon but actually, it gave us something to do for the afternoon. Either way, unless we were getting the Ferry again we wouldn’t necessarily go to Harwich again.

Maybe the locals would say different, this is just what I experienced.

{one} what’s the worst date you’ve ever been on?
I’ve never really dated in the sense of what you see in the movies. I got married to Chris when I was 21 and before that we’d both been poor students so we’d go for long walks or watch films at home. When I was in the third year at university. Chris took me to see Measure for Measure by William Shakespeare for Valentine’s – it was really sweet of him but I was writing my dissertation on Shakespeare and had spend all day on it so was all Shakespeared out.

{two} if you could be any other person for one day, who would it be?
I don’t mind. I guess just that I was happy and that I knew what I wanted to do with life (at least for now lol!)

{three} what is your favorite kind of cheese?
Mozzarella, Edam, Emmental or Bavarian (or Hungarian) Smoked Cheese.

{four} do you remember your 1st grade teacher?
Well I’m in the UK so we don’t have grades in that sense. My teacher in Year 1 was called Mrs Ive, her favourite colour was pink she was absolutely bananas but so so lovely. She actually a wedding planner now rather than a teacher which is kinda cool (do you need qualifications to be a Wedding Planner?)

{five} who is the first person you call when you have a bad day?
Chris or My Mum.

{six} were you ever in a school talent show? Yes two lol. I danced in the first which was scary – the music didn’t work and I had to go off and come in again like 3 acts later the second I was in year 11 and sang On My Own from Les Miserables. (I can sing the tune but I guess I thought I was better than I was lol).

{seven} who is your favorite fictional character?
Tibby from The Sisterhood of The Travelling Pants or the version of Julie Powell in Julie and Julia. (I think we’d be good friends lol)

{eight} can you open your eyes underwater?
In the bath with no bubbles yes, in the swimming pool or sea no.

{nine} do you look at the keyboard when you type?
Only if its like the first time I’m putting my hands on the keyboard or if I want to get the spelling completely correct first time – or when I’m on my phone and the autocorrect doesn’t behave itself.

{ten} when was the last time you took a nap?
Not this Saturday just gone but the one before that – I wasn’t feeling very well.

Monday 23rd May

Dear Chris

Today you had various meetings and then you came home and I think you slept most of the day – You came home from the prayer meeting yesterday feeling all icky so you might be going down with something. I might sleep on the sofa so that I don’t catch it but with the VIP guest from the USA at work tomorrow I need to be on the ball so sleeping in the bed might be a better option lol.

While you’re upstairs curled up in bed (probably playing on your computer) I’m sat downstairs writing this post and watching Nights in Rodanthe. It’s a really sad movie in the end but the house is just amazing – I think you’d love it. At least before it was moved because of the coastline eroding it was right on the beach.

Han 🙂

{Weekend To Do: What I Did}

Well I think my weekend was kinda productive – I probably could have done better but did most of it. That was good right?

1. Finish the washing (looking like 5 or 6 loads maybe 7 total).

Actually did manage most of this – there is still another load to do but I ran out of Saturday and then Sunday was just too busy to do any.

2. Tidy the bedroom (this might make the above close to 10 loads lol).

It’s still kinda messy but at least all the clothes have been tidied away so that’s a good start – the floor is clear!

3. Finish the homemade skirt.

Finish all except the bottom hem/taking it up a bit – I finished the waistband and tried it on only to realise it was still nearly on my feet rather than close to knee length – Mum is helping me with this at some point.

4. Finishing reading Moon Over Soho by Ben Aaronivitch.

Still working on this – I started Chapter 8 last night.

5. Sort some tea (might delegate this to Chris)

I dealt with this – we got sandwiches from the petrol station on the way to church – yep that was tea lol. So complicated.

6. Watch new Doctor Who episode (6.45pm this evening)

This took two attempts, I went and played in band from 7:15 til 9 I then went to my Mum’s watched the first half an hour (ish) of Doctor Who then went back to church for the second slot at 10. I then watched the second half yesterday afternoon after all the craziness had happened.

7. Be at church for 7:15pm (Yep Doctor Who will have to be watched later).

Did this 🙂

8. Go to the Prayer Meeting

I stayed from 8 til 9 and then from 10ish to 11ish.

9. Remember to drink some water rather than get dehydrated lol

I drank like a pint of squash in one go I was that thirsty at one point – oh dear!

Sunday 22nd May

First thing we did this morning before church was drive over to the other side of town to collect one of the Lost Boys so he could come to church – since him and his Mum moved he can’t walk himself to church like normal. You said to me that you had a sore throat and I was really unsympathetic.

Church was good fun – you, me and Lost Boy 1 were stood at the back of church ready and waiting with the flags and ribbons. Just before church started Mum, Dad and Rich arrived – they decided that it would be nice to come visit RP rather than going to their own church which was really cool.

At one point during the worship I asked you about going to stand closer to the front rather than standing at the back like we normally do. You said the song was too quiet and slow so we’d stay at the back for now. The next song though I went and stood in front of the sound desk and you stood over near the stage – I think it was good – no one said that it was a bad thing (then again no one said it was a good thing either lol).

After church we went out for lunch and took Lost Boy 1 with us. We had a large pizza between us with two toppings because we couldn’t make up our minds lol. We had pudding as well. We’d asked for cookie dough dessert which is my favourite without ice cream but when the girl brought it out it did have ice cream so the staff did a second pudding for us – so we ended up with two puddings between three of us lol. I ended up eating pretty much a whole one just to myself – which was a ridiculous move lol. You challenged me to eat the whole thing which was a really bad move because I wanted so badly to prove the point to you but it was so sweet I was beginning to feel really queasy.

We spent the rest of the day pretty much doing our own thing as you were feeling ill and I just wanted to have a siesta from eating too much lol.

{Weekend To Do}

So after last weekend where I did hardly anything other than make milkshakes and feel ill I decided I needed to make a to do list.

  • Finish the washing (looking like 5 or 6 loads maybe 7 total).
  • Tidy the bedroom (this might make the above close to 10 loads lol).
  • Finish the homemade skirt.
  • Finishing reading Moon Over Soho by Ben Aaronivitch.

  • Be at church for 7:15pm (Yep Doctor Who will have to be watched later.

Work and Doctor Who

This is one of those weeks that I am really glad that the weekend is just round the corner – it’s not been mega busy or anything like that I’ve just felt really out of it like all week – unfortunately this did show up at work earlier and I had to apologise profusely to my manager and to one of our distributors – it wasn’t good. On the other hand me and one of the girls from another distributor discussed Doctor Who and The Apprentice while I looked up some information for her. It’s nice to kinda bond a bit rather than talk office all the time.

I also ended up being part of a meeting as the people who were actually in the meeting were discussing Twitter and Social Media – How do you get more follows on a business account? Any ideas? On a personal account it’s about linking with other people but if it’s a business account surely you need to keep the talk on topic to a certain degree. We then got onto QR Codes and what they can be used for. I found some very cool examples of them used on business cards. I liked these cakes – I’m not sure how much use they would be unless you saved the phone number and things like that before you ate the cake.

I tried to explain the Girl Geek day in London when we had the scavenger hunt thing but I wasn’t doing very well – I might see if I can find the cards and show them next week if we start discussing it again.

I keep meaning to write a to do list for this weekend otherwise I’ll probably end up watching the whole of Series 5 of Doctor Who if my DVDs arrive tomorrow (I’ve got a trial of Amazon Prime so they should be delivered tomorrow but I haven’t had a despatched email yet) I popped home at lunchtime to put a load of washing on so that’s a good start right? Now I just need the weather to be nice so that I can hang it outside to dry rather than running the tumble dryer all weekend.

{Fill In The Blanks: 20th May}

Fill In The Blanks - 19th May

{one} People always tell me I look like my Mum or my cousin Tori. No one famous lol.

{two} Friends don’t let friends walk home along late at night. I’d rather drive out my way to make sure my friend gets home safely then leave them to walk home alone.

{three} A sunny day is perfect for BBQs or hanging out on the trampoline! Then again we need sunshine on Monday when we go punting in Cambridge.

{four} My favorite accessory is my phone lol. Kidding. I guess it’s probably the current reading book that I’m on – I read it while I eat my lunch. I read between the office and the car (I mastered the art of holding it and then watching where I’m going using peripheral vision lol. My colleagues probably think I’m nuts)

{five} If I could afford it I would quit my job and travel for a bit. Okay maybe that wouldn’t work so well. Maybe I take two weeks of my holiday and go somewhere completely different to normal. Would two weeks be enough time to go to Australia.

{six} The cure for boredom is reading, watch a movie or play music – that’s what I do when I’m bored lol.

{seven} I am currently “in like” with clothes from the charity shop. I try and take some in once in a while to help out and occasionally I purchase some – there’s a charity shop on Castle Road near church that always has fab bits in it – whereas the one in town is really sucky.

Travel Thursday

Travel Thursday is an idea a number of us discussed on Twitter and our friend Ian put together the prompts. You can find the prompts and join in by taking a look at Ian’s blog.

Travel Thursday: Your all-time favourite place visited

Well, this was kinda answered yesterday in not very much detail. I think my favourite place would either be Izmir in Turkey or Amsterdam in Holland.

As discussed yesterday in Wee Bit Wednesday by best two holidays have been going to Turkey and Amsterdam.

Well, in a way Turkey was a working holiday rather than a proper holiday. Therefore, I thought I’d talk more about Amsterdam which was a holiday.

So back in May 2007, Chris and I went to Amsterdam for our honeymoon. We got the train to Harwich Ferry Port. The ferry took around 9 hours and we landed in Hoek Van Holland. It’s on the west coast of Holland.

Amsterdam Centraal

We then caught the train from Hoek Van Holland to Amsterdam. We went via Rotterdam on both the outgoing and incoming trips. On the return trip, we actually changed trains at Rotterdam – I think we’d got time for a little explore but realised once we were off the train that we didn’t know what to go and see. We got the train into Amsterdam Centraal – this is the main train station and I think it’s on its own island in the middle of the river.

While we were in Amsterdam, we used the tram system to get pretty much everywhere (if we weren’t on trams we were walking lol.) It’s just as easy than the London Underground. The hotel we were staying in was around 5 minutes from the nearest stop. Our nearest stop was also the stop for the Rijksmuseum. The great thing about this location was that we were also just around the corner from Vondelpark. I think it’s Amsterdam’s answer to Central Park in New York or Regent’s Park in London. In the park, there was this big sculpture at the end of the pond.

I am Amsterdam

Although when Chris said we were going to Amsterdam I was like “What is there to do other than look at windmills, flowers and clogs?”. I really enjoyed it and would actually really like to go back one day.

What I hadn’t realised before going to Amsterdam, was that I was going to somewhere that was really quite historic in a sense. We went to look at the AnneFrankHuis which is in Prisengracht which is a busy street near the Olde Kirk. We wanted to go and have a look but the queue was so long that we really needed to be there a few hours before it opened. We found the thinnest house in Amsterdam (apparently this might actually be no longer correct as another building comes up when you look it up on Google).

#7 Singel - narrowest house in Amsterdam

We’d been very carefully avoiding certain streets, I’d seen a poster about a Journalism Photography exhibition that would take us right through the bit that.

I thought I’d written about my time in Amsterdam but having had a look I didn’t write about it which seems really strange. So this is probably the longest post I’ve written about Amsterdam lol.

{One}
Do you watch the history channel? If so, what’s your favorite channel?
If I do watch the History Channel it’s because my Dad is watching it while we’re at my parents house – other than that I tend to watch shows like Castle, House, Grey’s Anatomy etc.

{Two}
What is your favorite thing to do on a rainy day?
Watch TV, have a DVD fest or read.

{Three}
What does your dream house look like?

rodanthe

Photo Taken by What Anna Loves

Can you imagine being that close to the sea – the house would take alot of upkeep I guess but it would be amazing (This house appears in the film Nights in Rodanthe)

I adore Em and Tim’s apartment – it’s small but perfectly formed. They even appeared on Apartment Therapy.

Then again we own our own house, maybe we can incorporate all these ideas we have into our own home maybe….one day.

{Four}
What state were you born in?
I’m from the UK so I was born in a County. I was born and I still live in Bedfordshire

{Five}
Do you have a change jar? If so, what do you use it for when you get full?
It’s not a jar, it’s a VW campervan money point – I tend to put my 1p and 2p coins in it, I haven’t filled it yet. I’ll let you know what I spend it on when I fill it lol.

{Six}
What’s the first site you look at when you get on the computer?
Facebook or Twitter – at the moment it tends to be one of these or my Gmail when I’m on my phone rather than at my computer.

{Seven}
What’s your favorite breakfast?
I don’t often eat breakfast – if I do it’s muesli with extra raisins or a sausage sandwich. I know I’m either really healthy or really not lol. there doesn’t seem to be an in between!

{Eight}
What was the most memorable trip you’ve been on?
It’s a draw between Amsterdam in 2007 and Turkey in 2005. Amsterdam was my honeymoon with Chris – I wasn’t sure about it because I’d got a stereotypical view and it wasn’t really somewhere I’d thought about going really. But we got there and minus the lack of phrase book for a little while it was amazing and so much fun. I’d love to go back one day. Turkey was in October 2005 – I went with a group from church to run a kid’s club it was amazing and such a great experience.

Nine.
Do you prefer your coffee black or with cream/milk/sugar?
I don’t like coffee really – I occasionally have an iced coffee in which case it’s as it comes with a massive dollop of squirty cream.

Ten.
Have you ever done a professional photo shoot?
Yeah one of those make over do thingies. Me and my Mum went to one in London – the day was lovely, the make over itself was free but it was the photos that  were really expensive. It was a proper girlie day and I was spoilt but as I said it wasn’t something we would do normally and because of the quality of the pictures Mum can use them for business stuff and things like that (my pictures are on Facebook if you want a look)

Monday 16th May

I keep getting bogged down in back dating and filling in the posts that I missed out because I’d half forgotten about this blog but now I’m going forward – I can work backwards when I’m off ill or have the time to spare.

I made a whoopsie today – last week we’d discussed about having dinner together this evening as we’d both made a whoopsie on Thursday when it came to celebrating our anniversary. I was free and you weren’t so I went to the pub with our friend then when you were free I wasn’t – d’oh! Fail for lack of communication but on the other hand you get a fist pump and gold star because you brought me back chocolate from London – not only was it chocolate but it was my favourite because it was white chocolate (I’m not convinced by the strawberries in it but I will try it and most of all it’s Divine chocolate which means it’s FairTrade so that makes it all good lol)

I got in from work and you were on a mission – you were writing a letter about some stuff that needed to be dealt with rather than be swept under the carpet – which I think we had subconsciously been doing – which was wasn’t so good. When you finished the letter (and decorating the envelope lol) we sorted some dinner.

A local restaurant has recently started doing takeaway as well as sit down meals so we got takeaway from there and then walked home – while we waiting for our meal to be cooked we had a chat over the future and stuff like that. It was good to chat and I’m so excited (and kinda scared) about the future but I think it will be so amazing and God will provide – we don’t need to freak out (although I am a little bit lol – need to deal with that lol) because God’s got it sorted – right!

We started watching The Apprentice before Mum came to take me to the rehearsal at Cardington – we’ve got two services in the next few weeks – I’m going to be playing bass at the one of the 5th June which is exciting – I might get to play our bassist’s bass instead of my own which is cool because it’s lighter and a better sound but at the same time I might have to play my own because he’ll be bringing his acoustic to play. It’s so complicated lol.

Anyway – I wanted to say thank you for my new logo on my regular blog – I am so grateful and feel so loved because you took the time to do it.

Shake It! Shake It!

At the moment I’m sat in the main worship area at Brickhill Baptist in Bedford. Writing this blog post is probably going to drain the remnants of my battery so it might have to be finished later. (then again playing on my phone rather than joining in the games might make me look like a really rubbish example lol.)

So why am I at Brickhill on a Friday night – well good question…..j/k.

Either Chris was asked by Tim G (the youth worker here) or Chris asked Tim if he could come and make milkshakes and spread the word about The Fountain. So I’m here helping Chris. I was in a huff earlier and was a bit mean to Chris about helping this evening but now I feel okay – I’m just a bit tired as I came straight from work (I work like 15 minutes walk up the road from the church building.)

So far we made like 6 shakes but its just the first of two youth meetings tonight (11-14s is at 6:30 and then the 15-19s start at 8 I think).

Thursday 12th May

Hello you

Can believe that four years ago today we were getting married. By this point you were pestering me to leave the reception – I wanted to leave after the next song but you wanted to go as we needed to drive to the B+B we were staying in.

It was the start of a crazy adventure – I think if someone had told me 10 years ago that I’d be married I would have laughed at them.

Thank you for 4 fab years – there has been tough times but we’ve sorted it and hopefully we’ll keep sorting them out and showing those times who is Boss lol.

{Comments}

So on my recent (or at least more recent posts) I’ve been replying to every comment pretty much as it comes in – now I’ve got some chance I’m working my way through the back comments and adding replies – I’m sorry if this spams you by mistake.

{Live Music: Cerys Matthews}

I was going to start writing this post on Saturday when I got home from the concert but something stopped me writing it – I got as far as watching Doctor Who and opening a TextEdit Document to start writing but that’s as far as it got.

I’ve been to a few concerts in the past – mainly Christian gigs at camps like Soul Survivor, I’ve seen Status Quo play twice but both times were with my parents or family members. Back in October I went to what I considered my first proper concert which was KT Tunstall at Cambridge Junction.

That kinda makes this weekend my second concert.

Back in 2001 a band called Catatonia split up. I’m not sure if I knew of them before then but somewhere along the line I got an album called International Velvet – and I was hooked, one maths lesson my friend L had sat writing out the lyrics to Don’t Need The Sunshine (this is probably my favourite – or at least draws with Strange Glue or Goldfish and Paracetamol). Even now CD1 of their Greatest Hits is on pretty much constant repeat in my car. Back in about February I’d been looking at going to another concert and found that Cerys Matthews (lead singer of Catatonia) was going on tour with her latest album. Tickets weren’t too much and the concert was at the Stables in MK which is like less than 45 minutes away from my house – sorted – I just needed to make sure I was free and had the money.

Well at first I’d half double booked myself but then the other thing I was supposed to be at got postponed so last Tuesday I booked my ticket – I very nearly didn’t get one as they were down to single tickets.

So on Saturday after praying and fasting for church stuff I grabbed a sandwich and headed over to MK. At first I had misjudged which side of MK I needed for Wavendon. In my mind somehow I needed to go on the Newport Pagnell side but actually I was fine with the Bypass route in.

Anyway so I get there and at 7:45 when the auditorium was opened I took my seat. I didn’t mind the fact I was there on my own but when the auditorium did fill I think I was one of few who weren’t there with friends or family.

Cerys came on and started with some solo songs – she was the joined by a guy called Mason who was very multi-talented (at point he played bass guitar with his hands, the hi-hat with his left foot and the floor top with a pedal with his right foot) after a few songs they were joined by another guy who played an instrument that was similar to a lute – it was awesome. There was one song that Cerys was going to play on banjo but because it started buzzing she decided to play it on guitar instead which was a shame but I guess it made it different to other concerts.

My favourite songs of the night were Into The Blue (I’d been listening to it earlier in the day) and Galway Shawl/Strange Glue. Galway Shawl is a Irish folk song and Strange Glue was a hit for Catatonia. It was awesome how it fitted together and didn’t sound “crow-barred” together. When it got to the Strange Glue bit I was singing along – I’m not sure whether or not this annoyed the people around me but I’m pretty sure the guy next to me was singing as well lol.

I loved how much Cerys talked with the audience – almost made it like we were hanging out in someone’s living room rather than in an auditorium.

Afterwards I joined the queue for the signings, even before I’d got out of the auditorium the queue was really long. Thankfully the people around me were quite chatty and we talked about how maybe people were coming out the other door and then jumping in the queue rather than joining the end – it was quite funny.

I’d gone wearing my Threadless camera T-shirt – I thought I looked really scruffy in comparison to the other people there (I’d been people watching while waiting for the doors to open) but when Cerys asked what is was I was glad I wore it. We talked about Strange Glue and that it was awesome. We also talked about how I should replace my well played copy of Catatonia Greatest Hits with a new Cerys CD – I had purchased Don’t Look Down before the concert.

I put it on in the car and sang along to the ones I remembered from the concert. It’s been playing in the car since and been discussing the concert via Twitter with a couple of people (who might be here reading this – hello!)

If and when she’s back over this direction, if the tickets aren’t too much I’ll go see her in concert again.

{Comment Love Day}

So if you stopped by here from For The Love of Blogs – welcome and hello. So today isn’t Mother’s Day here in the UK (it was back in March) but if you are visiting from the USA or another country that celebrate it today – I hope you had a lovely day and that you were spoilt by your kids.
My MIL is staying for the week – so while I write this post Chris and his Mummy are plotting what to do this week – it means that I am going to work on the bus (or at least coming home tomorrow I think I’ve managed to blag a lift to work in the morning.)

{Blogging}

When I started writing my blog a few years back it was somewhere I could come and write and splurge about how I was feeling about what was going on around me – at the time when I started writing I was a student and was dealing with all sorts of issues. Now I’m out in the world of work and I kind of have to be careful about what I write – if I talk about my job I have to remember how easy it is for my manager to go to Google and find my blog. I guess I’m feeling like my blog has lost it’s way again – I write lots about music and my goals and stuff like that but should it be more contained and going down a particular route rather than just being somewhere to spew. Am I constrained by my job etc as to what I can and can’t write about?

Another thing that is being raised more and more is that – whatever we put out there on the internet can be read by anyone and I mean ANYONE. You know that dream job you want well you’re new employer might be reading, that rant about your ex-employer might have seemed like a good idea at the time but then on your first day of your new job your new employer might be reading it. It has been discussed in Christian circles that if our actions have to show Christ to those around us that means that our statuses on social networks should be that too – ranting about how mean your girl/boyfriend was to you isn’t showing Christ to those around you – but encouraging them by praising something that they did do that made you feel loved that’s better right? (Yes I know there is still a line to make sure you don’t cross lol) In the past I’ve posted “is feeling really loved because Chris did this thing” and often you’ll find that people like your status because it’s encouraging to another person it’s saying thank you or praising them for something good rather than putting them down.

I was then also thinking about the platform – does that affect it? I think my first blog was on Xanga or LiveJournal then I flicked between Blogger and WordPress – and then somehow settled here – I was talking to Chris about moving my blog the other day and he explained how he uses my blog as an example to show his clients what he can do with theirs – and things like that. I don’t mind that but then am I constrained to design to show of Chris’s talents.

So this is kinda rambled and I’m not actually all that sure how much sense it will make but we’ll see what happens.

{Fill In The Blanks Friday}

Fill In The Blanks

{one} What I love most about my home is the crazy times we have here. I live with Chris and the Kiwi. Often there are more people in our house which makes it feel so much busier. Next week for example my MIL is going to be here as well as us three and the Kiwi’s boyfriend.

{two} I’m excited because, next week is my 4th wedding anniversary – I can’t quite believe that it’s been four years since I got married and went to Amsterdam with Chris.

{three} My preferred method for blowing off steam when I’m frustrated is having a good cry or sticking on loud rock music and moshing round the living room.

{four} Currently I am craving junk food – I actually think it’s my only vice lol.

{five} The thing I love most about my mom is her hugs – she gives the best ones. When I’m feeling yucky we curl up on the sofa and she gives me a cuddle while we catch up on TV. She helps me cook new things and make my own skirts and other deranged ideas.

6. If I was going to write a book about my life, the title would be “One Crazy Jelly Bean” I have no idea but because I love jelly beans and I am a little crazy lol.

7. If I were to eat one thing for the rest of eternity it would be bruschetta maybe – if I could add cheese to it lol. That way I would still get 1 of my 5 a day by eating all those tomatoes lol.

What a Week-ish! Pt 2

28th April
So this was the epic day of the week that was going to throw everything else off – my friend Dave moved up north to live in the same town as his fiance. We were sat around chatting a few weeks ago about when he was leaving and how he was getting there. He asked his Mum if she could take him but she already had stuff that needed to be done. I said to him that I already had the time off – if he shouted the petrol then I would drive him.

So we load the car and off we go. The journey up was fine – it was a bit busy around Birmingham but other than that it was good – we got there and Dave’s Fiance had cooked us lunch – she made pie but not just any pie she made the pastry herself! She gets a gold star for effort – she sat there apologising that she didn’t think it had come out right – well she was so wrong! It was yummy yummy! I drove Dave round to his new house and we unloaded the car.

I then drove the hour and a half to the motorway – I decided to pull over in Sutton-in-Ashfield which is the town across from Kewey’s house – I grabbed a sandwich at the supermarket and texted Kewey about saying hi – she didn’t reply at first so I texted her boyf to see if she was okay as it seemed kinda strange that she hadn’t replied. He then sorted with Kewey’s Mum about me popping round – I surprised Kewey and I think I made her day – or at least made it a bit better.

I hung out there for about an hour while we fixed the TV (so that they could record the wedding while Kewey’s sister was at work) I then drove the rest of the way home. I had a bit of a moment about petrol around Leicester – it was a little expensive to pay for motorway petrol but at the same time I didn’t have enough fuel or energy to divert to a supermarket – I paid the extra for the motorway fuel and got on with it – I needed to get home.

29th April
Well guess what I did – like a lot of the country I watched the wedding. I hadn’t been that excited about the wedding – that was until about 9am on Friday morning and they started talking about the coverage. Kate looked amazing – the sweetest moment was when Harry looks down the aisle and looks at Kate, he then turns to Will and says something about how pretty she looks. As Kate gets to the altar at the front Will turns to her and says something like “You’re Beautiful”. I kinda wanted Will to look down the aisle at Kate and you’d get that look (you know the one they talk about in 27 Dresses – yes I am one of those people – I look at the groom to see how he reacts then I turn to look at the Bride to see how gorgeous she looks) and that reaction but I guess there was protocol and all those things.

30th April
Today I was helping Mum and Chris with the Fountain stand at the St Cuthbert’s Family Festival. After setting up we needed a battery and I needed to go and collect my phone (it had been sent of for repairs). I got the battery and headed for the phone store. I got there and the guy was just opening – it was about 9:04am I was the first customer of the day. The guy went and got my phone and explained that they’d replaced the handset – well that was better than expected – I half thought that they would be really difficult and send back my old handset and say that there wasn’t anything that could be done. Well that made my day – less than 5 months into my contract and I have a new handset – awesome good good!

I walked back to the stand while trying to move over music and things like that – Palm Pre is rubbish for sending stuff via Bluetooth that’s for sure. I kept trying to transfer stuff and take photos but without my SD card it just wasn’t happy. It was good fun even though me and Mum felt like we were at a bit of a loose end for most of the day. It was kinda cold through the morning as we were in the shade and then in the afternoon when we moved to the otherside of the street we were baking.

This evening we went to see Laura in a performance of Honk! It was awesome but so geeky how I remembered the songs even though it was like 10 years ago that I was in the production at school.

Honk!

Both me and Serena ended up with no battery so in the middle of the bar at the theatre I switched my SIM card so that we could get the map on my phone to be able to get out of Cambridge.

1st May
This morning I played in the band at church (although I hadn’t been around for practice on Thursday). It’s probably the wrong word to use but it just seemed like our “mojo” was missing. Paul preached on John 21 – breakfast on the beach. (See I was listening even if I was doodling lol)

After church I went to hang out with Mrs W and the Little One in the creche – we chatted about how she (Mrs W) was doing as these last few weeks didn’t quite go to plan but it seems to all be back on track – or at least getting there anyway!

I then went and played my guitar for a bit in the church as Chris was catching up with various people. Paul came in to chat to me about how I was doing – two Sundays ago he lent me a book called His Image My Image by Josh McDowell. It’s not something I would have picked up myself but if the Pastor thinks that I should read it I figure it’s going to be worth the read. I’m about half way through. We also talked about all the craziness that’s happening with trying to get the Fountain up and running.

After lunch I had been watching DVDs but during one of them I started dozing off – in the end I went up to bed and slept for about an hour, Chris came in to tell me he was off to church for the youth group. I dozed off again – woke up around 6 and decided I really ought to get up again – well the mind was willing but the body wasn’t I fell asleep again – I woke up at 6:45 and decided that even if I just sat in front of the TV I really needed to get out of bed otherwise I wouldn’t sleep through the night.

Finished Reading One Day by David Nicholls today.

2nd May
I’m kinda glad for the nap I had yesterday afternoon – I woke up at 3am – I mean like bolt awake as if it was morning or something and then I couldn’t go back to sleep. I guess I had a bad dream or something but I don’t remember it I just remember being awake and realising the time lol.

We had a BBQ for mine and Kam’s birthday. It was so much fun! Bex made us a joint cake and it was amazing – the people were so realistic.

<Cake!

3rd May
So then we get back to today, I was back at work which was fine but spent the morning feeling a bit spaced out and trying to get my brain back into gear and get

I went out for a run this evening – if that’s what you could call it. I came back and after I’d caught my breathe and grabbed a shower I set about playing with the stats and things like that.

While I was sat here I found a plug in that would display my stats here on my blog – technically I’ve only done one run because the first was o.o3km wandering round the house to have a play.

Tuesday 3rd May

I keep meaning to write more – what we’ve been upto and what we’ve planned but somehow I keep forgetting or life just gets too busy. I’ll try once more and if it doesn’t work this time I’ll call it quits.

This evening we watched The Social Network – tbh it wasn’t as good as I thought it would be but at the same time it was good to hang out and spend time with you. Thank you for watching Grey’s Anatomy with me after even though you really don’t like it. Thank you for making me laugh when you told Izzie “Don’t do that you silly woman!”

What A Week-ish! Pt 1

What a Week!

You would have thought that having had 11 days off work, I could have at least written one or two normal posts.  (Rather than ones for the 30 Songs series). Today I was back at work and all in all I feel like I’ve completely forgotten how to do my job lol. I answered the phone and had a complete mind blank – not a good start! Let’s hope this week gets better!

So anyway back to the 11 days off – what did I do all “week”!

Good Friday
Well Good Friday started with Church – over the Easter weekend I went to 4 different services – then again my friend went to about 6 and that was just on Good Friday – I’m not sure how he managed to mount up that many I think he was just trying to prove he’s more holy than me lol. After the first two services on Good Friday we went out for lunch with some friends – this was kinda plan B to what we had planned when we headed into town but it was still good, we got to spend time with friends which was the main thing. I had a burger and chips and my friend’s kids had a plate of nachos to share as they’d already had lunch – my friend’s daughter kept offering me nachos – in the end I swapped some chips for nachos lol. While we were at dinner Mr W commented about how his new baby girl is like the laziest baby ever.

At the evening service, a group of us sang Wonderful Grace – thankfully me, The Kiwi and Tubi remembered our parts and it seemed to go okay – even though each time we’d rehearsed it was different lol.

At the end of the service me and The Stig were stood at the back of the chapel and he was playing me random music from his iPod including a song called Blessed with a Curse by Bring Me The Horizon – the DJ on the radio has been playing it a lot – can’t say it’s my first choice but was quite funny to be stood in church listening to it.

Easter Saturday
I don’t remember what I did all day lol. I think I did stuff round the house but now I can’t remember lol. On the other hand I’m pretty sure most of the day was planned around getting to Mum’s to watch the new episode of Doctor Who. Am a bit dubious of having both Amy and Rory as sidekicks but we’ll see how the series goes. (SPOILERS sweetie lol. What about the baby? Or not I guess it depends which episode you’re upto!)

Easter Sunday
I think this was one of the rare occasions that I wasn’t at my home church for Easter Sunday. The group I sing in were leading the service at Howard Memorial Church in Cardington. I was also doing the talk which was all kinds of scary but it went well – or at least it seemed to go well. I even posted my notes in the evening.

Following church we went back to RP to say hi to everyone, got some rude comments about being too late for church or that I missed the service lol. I got a hug with Mrs W’s new baby girl. Mrs W had started feeding her but the milk in the bottle was too cold (well actually I think it was kinda room temp but I guess babies are a little more particular about the temperature), I got to hold her while Mrs W warmed up the milk for her. I had words about her being so lazy – not sure Little One really was listening seeing how she was like 9 days old but it was so cool sitting there with this tiny human being in my arms (yeah okay so I’m going all gushy lol)

Easter Monday (25th)
Today was spent mostly at Christchurch either hanging out or helping the guys from Saltmine Theatre Company set up for the performance. I was allowed to take photos during the performance which was novel – so many people are anti any kinds of photography during performances (I was told as long as it didn’t flash or put the cast off I was fine). Here are some of the pictures.

26th April
I think I spent most of the day at home just doing tidying and things like that – I’m sure I was more productive that sitting around but I don’t remember what I did lol.

27th April
My birthday! Woot. Well I share my birthday with Elle. Today was a bit of a funny one I kinda had some idea that we’d do something that was for my birthday but it didn’t work out that way.
I got up and started doing stuff round the house then sat down and opened my presents. I got a scarf from my Auntie, Uncle and Cousins, the Nike+ widget and sensor thingy from my brother and a new iPod from Chris – the iPod had been in the house for about a week but I was banned from using it until my birthday. I walked round the house with the widget tucked into my sock so that I could see how it worked – I had meant to go out for a run/walk/crawl but the day didn’t really go to plan. I sat in front of my computer and replied to the FB comments that were coming in wishing me happy birthday. I then posted that I really should get on with doing something rather than just sitting there. Me and Suzie then sorted out about going out for lunch – she’s been working on her dissertation so I didn’t want to take up too much of her time lol. We ended up going for lunch at the Harvester near my house. It was good fun and we shared an ice cream sundae for pudding – see it’s not quite as bad for me if I share it lol. We discussed things like her recent trip to Brussels and how our friend’s son coped with being there (he’s 10 and I think he loved it!). She explained her dissertation to me and what she’s writing about – it sounds very interesting. (Genuinely it does!)

Chris texted me during the meal about going to look round Porter Black’s in town as a venue for the Fountain Bedford – I’ve been wanting to have a look for ages as I was going on his description.

So following lunch I dropped Suzie off at the University Library so that she could get on with her dissertation. I then headed into town to meet Chris and the other people going to look at Porter Blacks.

It was kinda scary and exciting all at the same time. There are some bits that need lots of TLC and some others bits that just need a good clean and a coat of paint. I’m hoping to be able to help out around work and things like that. We spent about two hours looking round and creating some kind of plan. We left the town and Chris made Call number 1. About 3 hours later he got off the phone having completed about call number 4 or 5. I swear he’d be a prime candidate to have his brain analysed to proof whether mobile phones fry our brains or not hehe. We headed out to collect some furniture that Chris had found on Freegle – we then went out for dinner with my parents and my brother. Unfortunately my birthday dinner kinda turned into an unofficial Fountain meeting which was kinda pants but me and my brother chatted lots about various different things.

Monday 2nd May

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1 (Three-Disc Blu-ray / DVD Combo + Digital Copy)When we got home this evening the Kiwi and her friend were watching Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows. Her friend had never actually seen any of the Harry Potter films, or read the books so we spent chunks of the film explaining what was happening and who was who.
I did my best to try and not use the “What planet have you been on?” tone, I guess he was just never into Harry Potter the way I was lol.

30 Songs in 30 Days: Day 30

Here’s the final entry for 30 songs in 30 days. I know that I missed Day 28 – it was a crazy day! I helped my friend move from Bedford to Stockport so that he lives closer to his fiancée.

30 Songs in 30 Days

Day 30 – Your Favourite Song at This Time Last Year

https://youtube.com/watch?v=kPMRhs-Ro_U

Rewind to Easter last year and there was a campaign to get this song by Delirious to Number one on the Easter Sunday chart – unfortunately it only made it to Number 4 but it was and is one of my favourite songs by Delirious. I loved the idea of having a Christian song that was praising God at Number One on Easter Sunday rather than the latest winner of a talent show. I think it was the first time I’d listen to the chart in a very long time to see where Delirious had placed. I would have loved to have been able to see them in concert before they split up but unfortunately I wasn’t able to. Maybe need to keep an eye out just in case they do a reunion tour or other related projects.

ABC – Easy as 1,2,3

A= Available – Nope. Married
B= Best Friend – Erm I wouldn’t say that I have one particular best friend
C= Cake or pie – Apple Pie with Vanilla Ice Cream or really gooey chocolate cake.
D= Drink of choice – At the moment water or lucozade lol. Given up caffeinated fizzy drinks for Lent.
E= Essential item you use everyday – hair elastic – there might be days when I don’t use them but I always have at least one with me.
F= Favorite colour – Erm green I think but I wear alot of pink
G= Gummy bears or worms – Erm Gummy Bears I think – they are nicer lol. I have a bag on my kitchen table at the moment that came all the way from Germany. Trisha @ MarySew sent them to me.
H= Hometown – Bedford, UK
I= Indulgences – Online shopping – especially on Etsy lol
J= January or February – January – new year
K= Kids and Names – None yet – maybe one day we’ll get there and have a dinkie or two
L= Life is incomplete without? – My family – they rock even when I’m annoying and moody lol.
M= Marriage date – May 12th
N= Number of siblings – Just the one brother – he’s called Richard
O= Oranges or apples – Apple in a pie or Orange if I’m eating it as a snack.
P= Phobias or Fears – I’m not scared of heights in the sense of standing on a castle or something like that but when it comes to abseiling and climbing – I’m fine climbing but abseiling I can’t get myself over the top and starting down the wall (Does that make sense?!)
Q= Favorite Quote – “We are all in the gutter but some of us are looking at the stars” – Oscar Wilde.
R= Reason to smile – Family and friends.
S= Season – Spring or Autumn – not too hot and not too cold.
T= Tag 3 or 4 people – Anyone who wants to do it.
U= Unknown fact about me – No idea lol. I actually like tea now – okay it’s just Earl Grey or Darjeeling but it’s better than before.
V= Vegetable you don’t like – Runner beans, brussell sprouts – those are just two that I don’t like – the like list is much shorter!
W= Worst habit – verbal diarrhoea – I can talk for Britain some days. It’s not good!
X= X-rays – Two I think – I had a RTC when I was 14 – I had one taken of my ankle on it’s side and one as a front view – no broken bones just a strained muscle.
Y= Your favorite food – Italian or Chinese
Z= Zodiac Sign – Taurus

I found this here on Kim’s blog and Amy’s Blog.

Day 29 – A Song From Your Childhood

Okay well my folks brought me up on some random bands lol. Well not so random but they were really varied.

My Mum’s Influence

My Dad’s Influence

My Dad’s Influence still sticks today but I do sing 9 to 5 by Dolly Parton at karaoke 😀

{Fill In The Blanks Friday}

Fill In The Blanks

{one} I am looking forward to

{two} Something kind of embarassing that I still love anyway is

{three} My favorite car is VW Beetle or VW Campervan – also like Morris Minors.

VW - BEETLE

VW Campervan

Morris Minor Traveller

{four} If I could pick one type of weather to live with for the rest of my life it would be

{five} My favorite thing to do after a bad/stressful day is nap, then again maybe moshing round to rock music is a good thing.

{six} This weekend I’ll be watching Doctor Who with either Chris, my parents or all of them. I’ll also be getting ready to go back to work after having like 11 days off straight.

{seven} If I were a color, I’d be yellow or greenbecause, yellow is bright and cheerful like sunshine, green is also a bright crazy colour. (But not lime green – it’s gotta be the right shade!)

Day 27 – A Song That You Wish You Could Play

This song came out in 2002 when I was studying Music Technology at Upper School – I could just about play Fur Elise but this one I couldn’t get past the opening bars (And yet Vanessa Carlton makes it look so easy in the video lol).

25 Before I’m 26 – the List

I’ve been sat here for the last hour or so trying to write this post – it’s not even particularly hard – it’s about my birthday and the goals I wrote about 19 weeks ago and yet I’ve got like writers block lol.

So if that made no sense what so ever! I made a list of goals to achieve by my birthday. This is what it looked like:

  1. Read Angelology by Danielle Trussoni
  2. Complete 30 Days of Lists
  3. Buy/Borrow and watch Gone with the Wind.
  4. Watch Superbowl 45 (February 2011)
  5. Watch It’s A Wonderful Life.
  6. Volunteer at Children in Need.
  7. Meet up with an old school friend.
  8. Watch Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Part 1.
  9. Have a Father/Daughter Day.
  10. Make 25% of my Christmas cards by hand.
  11. Finish my NaNoWriMo story.
  12. Buy The Nightmare Before Christmas on DVD.
  13. Watch The Nightmare Before Christmas.
  14. Go for cake and drink with Brains
  15. Be included in the Christmas Performance at Church
  16. Meet @Beccaspeaks
  17. Write part/whole play.
  18. Complete 100 Films goal for 101 Things.
  19. Complete Alphabet of Films goal for 101 Things
  20. Complete a photo a day for a month (31 photos) (Jan 2011)
  21. Have friends round for dinner.
  22. Buy Miracle on 34th Street (Remake) on DVD
  23. Watch Miracle on 34th Street
  24. Watch a Ballet or Opera.

So at the end of March I wrote an update – I was down to one goal well unfortunately I ran out of time so I only completed 23 of my 24 goals. As of tomorrow I start a new list of goals. Bring it on!

To start with I have these:

  1. Read Love Wins by Rob Bell
  2. Take part in the “Messiah From Scratch” (Christmas 2o11)
  3. Watch Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Part 2 (November 2011)
  4. Re-read Harry Potter and Deathly Hallows
  5. Go on an adventure within the UK on my own
  6. Read The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkein
  7. Make 10 items to open an Etsy Store
  8. Visit a Foreign Country
  9. Go on a road trip
  10. Watch 40 films I’ve never seen before
  11. Read 5 biographies
  12. Lean and Memorise 10 scales on the Bass Guitar
  13. Read 3 of the 6 Jane Austen novels
  14. Watch the 3 Lord of The Ring Films (again)
  15. Read the 3 Lord of The Ring Books.
  16. Meet @Ellefie in person (If you don’t read it go read her blog – she’s my birthday buddy)

That’s it so far – I have 11 10 more spots to fill – I guess it gets harder as I get older but it’s things to work towards also I’m pretty sure at least 3 of the goals should be separate ones rather than parts of one goal.

30 Songs in 30 Days

Day 26 – A Song That You Can Play on an Instrument

I play a version of this at open mic nights lol. Well at one of the two that I’ve done.

Foo Fighters – Best of You

Then again I have video proof of one I can play (well kinda!)

I garble – you might want to skip to about 0:39.

30 Songs in 30 Days: Day 25

30 Songs in 30 Days

Day 25: A Song That Makes You Laugh

Bill Bailey or Victoria Wood are the best – there are others out there but these are the two funniest – I’m not really sure which video to post – I chose this one then there are a few more links underneath.

Bill Bailey sings Creep – first they have a jam.
Bill Bailey – The Ultimate Song about loneliness, love and loss
Victoria Wood – Let’s Do It – there are now two different versions – thankfully the older version is a little cleaner than the new version lol.

Easter Sunday Service

As well as playing in the church band I play in another band called New Life. Today our band took the service at Howard Memorial Church in Cardington. Somehow I ended up doing one of the talks and the following are my notes from today’s talk – some bits might not make sense because I did actions with them or asked the congregation.

Who can tell me what starts on Ash Wednesday?

Each year since I was about 16 or 17, that’s about 7 years as I’m 25 on Wednesday. I’ve given up something for Lent – one year I gave up meat and this year I gave up chocolate.

*open egg* Easter Sunday is the end of Lent which means today I can eat chocolate again. *eat*

But why do I give up chocolate?

There are various reasons why people fast for Lent but I do it to remember the forty days Jesus spent in the desert preparing himself and the huge sacrifice he made on Good Friday.

We celebrate Easter every year and sometimes it can become too familiar and we can forget what happened.

There’s a couple of verses in Philippians 2 that says

“[Jesus] Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage, rather he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death – even death on a cross.”

Jesus arrives in the Christmas story being born to Mary and Joseph and then 30ish years later takes his place on the cross.

Jesus died on the cross but not only that he rose again on Sunday morning. To me, as a believer, he took my sin and the wrong things I’ve done to the cross and he dealt with them. In a way, he took the death warrant that had my name on it – crossed it out with the chunkiest marker pen he could find and wrote his name in its place. His death on the cross and his resurrection mean that just like the next song I have had my sins washed away and I’ll have eternal life with God after I die.

But it isn’t just for me – it’s for you and you and everyone else – just like it says in John 3:16

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

To me, that is a big deal! Jesus didn’t just come on a field trip from heaven he was sent by God on a rescue mission to bridge the gap between us and God so that we may have that eternal life – hands up if you want that?

If you’re not sure or have questions grab one of us from the band at the end or one of the other leaders and we’ll be happy to chat.

*Pray*

So our next song is……….

Happy Easter Everyone!
Don’t Eat Too Much Chocolate!

Day 23 – A Song That You Want Played at Your Wedding (Or Had Played At Your Wedding)

Well the song I walked down to the aisle was on Day 7. Our first dance was to this – which seemed a good idea at the time lol. Finally Found by The Honeyz

There doesn’t seem to be a proper video for it – so it’s a link to it.

Day 21: A Song That You Listen To When You’re Happy

Better Together by Jack Johnson

These song (And the whole of the Jack Johnson album) makes me feel like I should be on holiday somewhere sunny and lovely lol. I often play it in the car during my lunch break if I’m having a bad day (after Evanesence) to cheer me up again and get me ready to go back to work lol.

{Wish Wednesday}

So the shirt says “I’m fairly certain that given a cape and a nice tiara, I could save the world”. Some days this is very me!

It’s by Curly Girl Design that I was introduced to by Lacy (who appeared on Bloggers Wednesday the other week).

I love cute t-shirts with random messages or pictures on them – yesterday I was wearing my camera T-shirt from Threadless and today I’m wearing my Delirious T-shirt (I’ve had it like 4 or 5 years and it’s still going!)

Lovely Katie from Curly Girl Design sent me some info about the shirt and I’ll be adding that in a little while – day job is calling.

30 Songs in 30 Days: Day 20

30 Songs in 30 Days

Day 20: A Song You Listen to When You’re Angry

Call Me When You’re Sober by Evanescence

It’s kinda bit ranty yelling from the beginning so does help with taking the edge off the annoyance lol. Then again a bit of Nightwish (I love this version of Phantom of The Opera) or Minority (Yes it’s bleeped) by Green Day also help lol.

EDIT:Having had a look at Ian’s blog my little explaination doesn’t seem like it’s got enough detail in it. I started liking Evanescence when I was at school – I was emo girl then (I thought I had mellowed out but a emo screamo song was played on the radio earlier and it was awesome lol.)

Music: {City Reign}

Well how did I hear about this one….I got an email the other day telling me about the band so I went for a listen – I love how their videos are made up of random clips from old movies – the video for Daybreak is mainly Cowboy and Western films whereas the video for Making Plans is mainly old black and white movies.

City Reign is made up of Chris Bull and Mike Grice from Manchester, UK.

You can follow them on Twitter @CityReign or their blog here. Daybreak is released on the 9th May (from Car Boot Records – their own company)

Day 19: A Song From Your Favourite Album

Ow! Hard choice lol. Again I don’t have a favourite album – I have favourite songs from all over the place. 4 of the top choices.

No Angel by Dido – Song choice is White Flag
I can’t embed it so click on the title for the video

Mind, Body and Soul – Joss Stone – Song choice is Spoiled

Lungs – Florence and The Machine – You’ve Got The Love

I also love the original but the video is more colourful lol

Health Kick

So I’ve been meaning to get on a health kick for weeks now – I eat too much cake and chocolate (Well when I haven’t given up chocolate for Lent).

I’m not a running kind of person but I did try going out with my friend two weeks ago – it was fun and nice to hang out with her for a little while but the running wasn’t so good – every 20 or 30 paces I was having to stop and walk – on one occasion I had to take my inhaler.

After I got back from the practice this evening and had some dinner, Chris and I took a walk to my parents house and back – we also raced a bit – I got to Mum’s and nearly flopped in a heap but my Dad was on hand with his blue inhaler (it’s the same medicine just different design). We also raced back home again – we ran from about 5 or 6 houses down the street to our house – I won and got to the front door first but Chris said he let me win!

I figure once I’m a bit motivated I could get some new trainers – I quite like these ones but I think I’d go and have them properly measured (so I walk/run on the right bit of the sole and things like that).

For now I am going to count steps – I have a green pedometer and here we go.

Day 18: Day 18 – A Song That You Wish You Heard on the Radio

Is it true today
That when people pray
Cloudless skies will break
Kings and queens will shake?

Yes, it’s true
And I believe it
I’m living for you

Is it true today
That when people pray
We’ll see dead men rise
And the blind set free?

Yes, it’s true
And I believe it
I’m living for you

I’m gonna be a history maker in this land
I’m gonna be a speaker of truth to all mankind

I’m gonna stand
I’m gonna run
Into Your arms
Into Your arms again

Rainbow Cupcakes

Rainbow Cakes (Attempt 1) by hannypants

Rainbow Cakes (Attempt 1) a photo by hannypants on Flickr.

So there is a whole discussion to be had about what makes a cupcake and what size it should be that’s a whole other topic.

On the other hand I made cupcakes! Woot! Well it was a fairy cakes recipe that should have made 24 but actually was closer to 18 but then I might have misjudged how much mixture should be in each cupcake lol.

Rainbow Cakes (Attempt 1)

Last week I read a post on Becca’s blog which was a “How To” post to make Rainbow Cupcakes. I’ve seen lots of images across the internet where different colour mixtures are used to create patterns – or like Battenburg where it’s cut and stuck back together again. I’ve made marble cake in the past which was chocolate cake mixture and plain cake mixture but never made any with crazy amounts of food colouring in them (I mean crazy – I put it a dash of green and it looked ill so I added like 5 more dashes and it came out this funny green colour but it works – I guess you could get technical and make purple or orange or something. I thought I’d try 3 shades and then go from there if I felt crazy enough.

I misjudged how much mixture I needed in each colour so in the end i ended up with some which lots of pink and no green or lots of green but hardly any pink (this is also how come I have 18 cakes and not 24 – then again it’s 16 now me and Chris have had one each lol.

How Many Have You Read?

I was often of the impression that I was well read but I think when it comes down to it I read alot just not necessarily a wide enough spread. I read about it on David’s Blog I went down the list and deleted off the ones that I had never heard of, while seperating the others into different lists. It was a little despressing to seee that I’ve only read 6 that are listed (or sections of others – if you count those it goes up to 17 in total). There are some like The Hobbit or Gormenghast that I started reading only to give up for one or another reason – My Dad often encouraged me to read The Hobbit – long before Lord of The Rings came out as a film series.

There are now three editions of the 1001 list, with 1294 titles on all three lists. Dates in parentheses are book editions of the 1001 list. Information in brackets is author nationality, language, book award.

Having made this list it might be better just to make sure I’ve read everything on my book case first

Day 14: A Song That No-One Would Expect You to Like.

Okay you can disown me for liking it – I’m not actually sure why I like it – I think it’s because it’s catchy and at the parties I’ve been to everyone gets up and dances to it (or shouts along with it).

Bloggers Wednesday: Lacy

What’s your name?
Lacy Young

Where do you live (country is fine)?
San Jose, California USA

Where do you blog?
Lacy Like

What made you start blogging? How long have you been blogging? Has it always been in the same place?Wordpress, Blogger or other?
In 2008 I’d just come through a 4 year journey to breathe. I had unexplained scar tissue growing in my trachea. I started a Caring Bridge page in 2007 to keep my family and friends updated on the progress of a series of serious surgeries. I feel in love with having a place to express, to write freely and feel so much love and support. After the big surgery that “fixed” me and allowed me to breathe with ease I missed writing and decided it was time to begin a blog! I’ve been blogging ever since at lacylike.com (a Blogger blog)

Do you have a day job or is blogging your main thing?
I have a couple.
I help to design and run yoga studios. I am now at Breathe Los Gatos which is amazing if I do say so myself. I also have an herbal line that I sell from my blog and in the yoga studio. AND my very favorite thing I do for money is health coaching. I run 6 month programs to help people find optimum health and vitality through food and lifestyle. Everything I do is centered on building health and happiness. As I see it we only get one shot at life so we might as well live the one we want, inspired and empowered!

Do you have specific blogs that inspire you?
Totally, I am a blog hopper, little of this, little of that to find inspiration.

Leigh at Curly Girl Design blog is at the top of the list for all things good.

Curly Girl Design

Kelli at the Zinnia Patch always has amazing photography

The Zinnia Patch

Elisa at enJoyit. always inspires creativity and my love of all things paper.

If you could ask me one question (and I answer it) What would it be?

What’s the big dream? The if you could have anything of this life dream… what would you be doing? Or are you already there?

Piece of advice for bloggers out there?

Blog for you. Plain and simple.

In answer to Lacy’s Question

What’s the big dream? The if you could have anything of this life dream… what would you be doing? Or are you already there?

Wow! Big question – I’m not really sure lol. As much as hanging around at home and with friends not doing a job seems like a good idea I think I would get bored. So actually I’d love a job that I enjoy – you know get up in the morning and want to go to work rather than it feel like a chore and like you’d rather do anything but go to work – you know thinks like clean the toilet!

I’m so indecisive with what I want to do I’m surprised that I lasted in my current job over 3 years then again it looks good to new employers – if and when I look for one.

Being my own boss seems like a good idea but at the same time I don’t have an idea or a product to create and sell to be able to pay the bills – i could always go back to college and train to be an accountant – I could then do the accounts/admin stuff that my Mum does.

Day 13: A Song That Is A Guilty Pleasure

And I Am Tellin’ You by Jennifer Hudson (from the film DreamGirls)

So I have the Glee version on CD in my car – I can’t say that I’d ever belt it out in public but I regularly play it in the car and belt it as loud as I can while driving – I can hit the money notes which is interesting lol.. I also belt out this one as well. (Defying Gravity from Wicked)

My Collection of Links…Pt2

I start writing the next part only to then gain new links! A few weeks back I found a blog called Yellow Song Bird. Originally the post I wanted to post about was this one because I was going to post my own WIWW post (WIWW is What I Wore Wednesday) but then never got round to it.

On the other hand, I want to tell you about the giveaway that Kim (from Yellow Song Bird and also from Oh, Sweet Joy)is hosting with Leonora from Yellow Heart Art. You can find out more here. You can enter to win any 8 x 10 print from Leonora’s Etsy Shop.

My favourite is this one.

My Collection of Links…Pt1

I seem to be a collector of links – I scribble them down and mean to go back to them later and then for one or another reason I don’t make it back. I went through my notebook and labelled every URL with a pink post it note so I could see how many I had and collate them all into one post (oh look this is that post hehe). First up is the most recent addition to my collection of links.

I read here on Search 4 Serendipity about another artist (Laura @ Violet Bella’s World) who has had their worked copied by someone else out there. I often read on Handmade Love how she’s been contacted by her readers with information about where her work has been copied – it’s not fair. The first artist puts all that work in only to have it copied by someone else. Now I admit I’ll try and draw “in the style of” but if I post it on here or on Flickr I will ALWAYS put a link that says “Adapted from…..” or at least a link where to find that original artist – and I’d never sell those drawings or doodles on – they are just for my personal practice.

When I was at university I did a module called Dance on Film so I got to watch films like Singin’ In The Rain, Moulin Rouge, Carousel – pretty much any musical that had dancing in it. (Except Rocky Horror that didn’t make it to the list lol). One of my favourites was Singin’ in The Rain – I found this link on Yes and Yes today – you know if you wanted to decorate your living room like the one from the film. (As much as I love the song Good Morning I think Make ‘Em Laugh wins)

I also found cute thing while looking for the above image – how adorable is it!
