Clothes

Okay so I pretty much live in jeans, trousers or shorts – I’m not really a fan of skirts or at least I didn’t use to be – skirts are growing on me. These are some things that I really like.

Ummma’s Boots!!!!

Fab!!

My friend Ummma has an awesome dress sense – she has this one dress which is purple with white spots and has a funky petticoat. And her amazing dress sense rubbed of her gorgeous fantastic daughters who are like super lovely!

I love the style of clothes that Zooey Deschanel wears – especially her outfits in (500) Days of Summer. They are often very girlie and vintage looking – so quite Fifties style I guess.

I found these two dresses on a supermarket’s website I really like them but don’t think they are really me lol. Then again maybe I just need to adapt me lol.

I bought this dress from the same supermarket earlier this week. I really like it but I didn’t have time to buy some leggings so I ended up wearing it over trousers to work this week but I might try it with shorts this weekend (and if I have chance to buy leggings I might go with those next lol)

Writer’s Block or Just a Funk

Okay I’m going to try and not dwell on this as much as I can because that would be boring and you’d all close your internet windows.

I think it’s writers block but then again I’m not sure. Maybe I just feel like I don’t have any thing to say of worth – but then again I’m sat here with a word document and 5 ideas that I’m typing into and lengthening each time I open the page (so there must be some ideas up there).

Then again I could just be in a funk and be bored of the whole blogging thing – I know how can I be bored of this thing lol. I thought about a redesign but this design hasn’t been live very long so redesign probably isn’t the way to go about it. I thought about certain days being certain topics but then I got stuck on what topics and on what days and then got stuck on the idea that if I was blogging about each of these themes each day would I then stop writing about other stuff.

So I came up with a plan of sorts. I am going to try the theme a day thing up until the end of August and see how it goes – that gives me about 40 days to do that. If I blog Monday to Friday on the themes then the weekend can be catch up time or free for all on the posting front.

Now to the next question. What themes? My friend Kaelah does Mixtape Monday and Wedding Wednesday and Cardiogirl has a Book of Questions post on a Friday.

But these are their ideas – so how can I come up with my own ideas? Do you have suggestions? Comment in the doobley doo lol. (Do you watch Vlogbrothers – if not why not!?!?!)

This Is The Week That Was

I’ve been having one of those weeks I think. I spent most of Tuesday when I was at home watching Eureka and trying to write a blog post – I kept trying to summarise what we had got up to and then kept getting my days muddled!

So rather than try and rehash each detail we have a bullet point (nearly wrote bulletproof) list of each day:

Sunday

  • Funfair rides with the InLaws
  • Engineering lesson about the carousel from my FIL.
  • Trampolining (too hard the harness kept cutting into my legs and the whinge thing was too high)
  • High Ropes (That Boy thought it would be great for me to have a go – I had a go and then couldn’t move for most of Monday – my arms were killing me!)
  • Playing Crochet on the lawn (hehe)
  • World Cup final – come off it Netherlands you spend most of the match cheating you have very little right to contest the fact that Spain won!
  • Bend it Like Beckham – I have seen this film like once a year since it came out and yet I still like it. I realised how funny it is that Parminder Nagra’s character goes off to USA just as she started in ER. (Bend It came out in 2002 I think and then she joined the cast of ER in 2003)

Monday

  • We travelled home today.
  • Garden Centre – on the way home we stopped at a Garden Centre – it was 16 acres of various different bits and pieces – I went for a walk round a craft store that was part of the garden centre – that was okay but nothing different than the local craft stores. I found a really nice craft bag but there was no tag on it and I don’t really think that I had the money for it lol.

Tuesday

  • Town – I got up this morning and went into town – having been up for breakfast every morning at 8am ish my body wouldn’t really let me sleep even though I was kinda tired. I went into town wearing a t-shirt and shorts. The temperature has dropped and from what I heard it was around the 15 degrees mark! (US readers that’s about 40 Fahreinheit) having spent all weekend sweating because it was so hot it was kinda funny to be cold lol. I was in two minds whether to put my jeans and a jumper on when I got home.
  • Ikea – While we were away The Kiwi had collected all the DVDs together that had migrated around the living room. It ended up that we needed another shelf unit for them. We already have two Benno units from Ikea so we just needed another one of those – here’s where I’m wrong – I estimated that one would be enough but actually having got home and put the unit together I’m short of space for about 20 DVDs – I think I might have to start thinning out my collection – I know there are a couple that I probably won’t watch again lol)

Wednesday

  • So originally the plan for Wednesday was to go get the tickets for Eclipse then come home and flop. Well me and Tubi went to the cinema only to find that on most weekdays they don’t open till 12:45. Well I’d forgotten to get Zoza a present in town when I was there on Tuesday, so I gave Tubi the option I could take her home and go back for her around lunch or she could come with me while I window shopped and got Zoza a present.
  • We went to Interchange followed by town and got something for Zoza. Then at 12:30 we headed back to the cinema. While we were in town we grabbed a drink from Costa Coffee – I had a Iced Caramel Latte and got Tubi a Frappucino thingy (okay so that is a Starbucks name rather than a Costa name but I can’t remember what they call them lol) My Iced Caramel Latte was nice but I should have gone for a fruit based drink rather than coffee – it was a little too strong for me – but I guess the fact that I drank it all showed that I’m beginning to like coffee.
  • We went back to the cinema to get the tickets for Twilight: Eclipse – this was fine. The cinema sign said 12:45 but actually it was closer to 1pm when they actually opened.
  • I then dropped Tubi back home and my Aunt was enjoying her study break from writing her dissertation – as we got there she was just finishing and going back to her Uni Work. She literally sat down and noticed the fly that had been flying around all morning – she got back up again and started trying to swot the fly. I pointed out that she was just procrastinating and that she could leave Tubi to catch the fly and she could get on with her work lol. I think catching the fly was some form of carthasis as well so I left her to it lol. She once again recommended that I watch The Vampire Diaries. So that’s what I did I went home and watched the first three episodes of the series – it was definitely closer to traditional vampire stories (and shows like Angel and Buffy) rather than sparkly vampires that can go out in sunlight lol. (Yeah I like Twilight but the sparkly is just a little silly).

Thursday

  • I had the best day out with my Mum today – I was really tired and so the journey in to London was a little fraught – we were going early as we had to be at Great Portland Street for 10:15am but it was so worth it. We went for a makeover thingy at Studio London so the morning started and we had our make up done and then our hair. We then got dressed up and did our best Vogue impression in front of the camera lol. (I have my pictures but need to get them from the CD onto my Mac at some point). That took up most of the day. After our photo shoot we had a break for lunch so we wandered up to Regent Street and went to La Tasca for lunch. I think I’ve only been to a Tapas bar/reastaurant twice before – boths times were Los Iguanas (first time I had food and wasn’t really sure about anything on the menu lol, the second time was just for drinks) Anyhoo! The food was lovely. We got a deal thingy where you pick some dishes and then you share them between two. We had Tortilla Espanola, Ensalada de Pera y Jamon, Croquetas de Pollo, and Paella de Verduras. While we waited for our food to come we had Aceitunas Mixtas and Pan de Barra. (Yep okay so I don’t speak Spanish either lol. So the translation is….Spanish Omelette/Tortilla, Pear and Ham Salad, Chicken Croquettes and vegetable paella. Our nibbles were Mixed Olives and bread with Balsamic/extra virgin olive oil dip.) All in all it was yummy unfortunately the service was a little slow. (It got to the point where at the end of our meal we stood up and acted like we were about to leave so that they would bring over the bill and then come back for the money lol.)
  • Following lunch we went back to collect our photos – it took a little while to be seen and then it took a little while we decided what images we wanted. Following that we headed back up to Regent Street and Oxford Street. We stopped off at John Lewis’s but our main goal was to get to Marks and Sparks at Marble Arch (one of my Mum’s favourites lol) We found some nice clothes in Per Una once again lol. There was a really nice checked top but they didn’t have my size) – I think it’s the one in the picture but I thought it was brighter than that.
  • After going to Marks and Sparks we headed a bit further up to the tube station to catch the tube back to St Pancras so that we could come home. We got on the tube and it was like an oven it was soooooo hot – I’m glad I don’t have to do that every day that’s for sure!
  • We then grabbed a drink at Starbucks in the station (Come on M&S Simply Food it’s heading towards rush hour you need as many tills open as you can manage – especially when your queue has doubled back on itself and it heading towards the door.)
  • We caught the train back to Bedford, we had to stand from St Pancras to St Albans but after that managed to get a seat for the rest of the way home. I read an article in the Evening Standard about moving out of home and living in London. (Article)

Friday

  • Back to work – It’s quiet and I kinda don’t want to be here – then again I’m on a 1 day week lol. Then again can’t complain too much. My manager is going on holiday later today – not just any holiday she’s going to Russia. Talk about slightly off the wall lol. She sent me her itinerary and it looks like so much fun.
  • It was briefly discussed before we went away but it’s so exciting I want to talk about it and come up with some kind of exciting plan already lol. And me being me will probably have to organise some kind of itinerary lol. That Boy, The Kiwi, JulesO, The Kiwi’s Sister (she can be the Kiwi-ette lol) and Me are looking at all going to Italy next year – I have a list as long as much arm of places I want to visit – we’re working on which city we most want to see and then working from there. I’d love to see Casa Giulietta in Verona, The Tower of Piza, the ruins at Pompeii, and The Sistine Chapel amongst other things! Having studied Italian for 4ish years at school I can’t wait to actually get to use it lol. Unless I find what happened the other night – I was trying to mentally practice asking stuff in Italian and it kept merging into French – so not going to work!

Butlins 2010: Saturday

Technically it’s now Tuesday! I kept trying to write the posts but we were doing too much and then when we weren’t doing stuff I was too hot or too tired to bother lol.

Saturday started with breakfast. I thought I would manage a bowl of Muesli and a some fry up bits. I got through my muesli and decided that I was already full – I felt kinda bad – I get that it’s an all you can eat breakfast thingy but it was kinda a waste. I think I made it through a sausage and decided that was enough lol.

Following breakfast we decided to head into Skegness for a wander. But first we had to take pictures on the giant deck chair. Me and That Boy had a serious picture then my FIL decided that he couldn’t be left out and so decided to show off.

My FIL had been for an explore earlier during the week (they had been at Butlins since Monday) and so knew a place to park that was close enough to the sea front to walk into town but far enough away not to have to pay parking fees. We went for a wander along a stretch of shops. I was looking for a sun hat because it was so hot and sunny. We’d gone in various tourist-y shops but they were all cheesy never wear again kinda hats lol. We ended up in Peacocks and I found a few that I liked but most were too small (I guess all that knowledge in my brain has stretched my skull and my scalp lol.)

I found one that was like a Stetson – like a cowboy hat lol. It’s got shells and beads on a string around it so that was nice and holiday-ness. (I don’t think my explanation does it justice lol – Maybe I’ll take a picture).

After hat shopping we went for a wander along a bit further and then down to the sea front. Me and my MIL went for a paddle which was good fun. We then walked back up the beach to where my FIL and That Boy were perched on some rocks. My SIL had gone to look for some swimming goggles so when she eventually caught up with us at the beach we semi-dragged her kicking and screaming back down to the sea for a paddle. She eventually got there and did go for a paddle but she kept whimping out about how cold it was and how fast the waves were coming in. (It was cold but in comparison to the air temperature it was lovely and cooling).
We headed back to the camp and came up with plans for the rest of the day. That Boy crashed in a heap in our room while I went for a wander round the funfair with my in laws. It was good fun.
EDIT: So I keep trying to finish this post but I get confused as to what happened next so for now I’m leaving it like that.

Movies: Twilight: Eclipse

Since we went to see New Moon back in November me, my cousin and my Aunt have been wanting to see Eclipse – after all it’s the next in the story. We’re all massive Twilight fans and have read the books at least once (My Cousin has read The Short Life of Bree Tanner but both me and My Aunt haven’t read it yet.)

The book of Eclipse was probably the one that raises the most questions about whether Bella should pick Edward or Jacob. I came out the other side wanting her to pick Jacob whereas my friend told me that Edward is so the right person for her. (I am still very much in the Jacob camp – He never tried to change her, he wanted to be with her whoever she was.)

Just like New Moon, there were whole chunks that had been dropped from the story line – I guess this was mainly due to the screening time and things like that. Having just flicked through New Moon there is over 70 pages between Bella and Edward breaking up and Bella taking the bikes to Jacob. She’s supposed to be drawn and really depressed and the film doesn’t show that – I guess that’s all crammed into the “montage” of seasons.

Anyhoo we got to the end of the film (Eclipse – that is) and from the screen to dropping me off at the front door we reviewed the film and talked about reading, books and book clubs. I think to do it justice we might all have to see it a second time. After all you spend the first time through taking in the story line rather than filling in the gaps.

If you have read the books go see it. If you haven’t read the books I would recommend reading the book first before the film, but in the end it’s up to you lol.

On the other hand this afternoon we have a thunderstorm. My friend’s facebook status said:

is going to move to Forks because Edward and Jacob are totally her brand of heroin. And so the lion fell in love with the lamb. Swoon. Ps Stephanie Meyer is one of the greatest writers in the literary canon.

She hadn’t really written this as she’d left her account signed in on her friends phone and her friend left it for her but back to the thunderstorm!

So I see my friend’s status on Facebook and I respond with:

Looks like the weather came to you. How about game of baseball?

Okay so I know how to play Rounders rather than Baseball but it would have been fun lol.

Butlins 2010: Friday

About 13 months ago I got to go to Butlins in Bognor Regis and review my trip thanks to Fuel My Blog.

While we were there we booked a holiday for this year. That way we made sure we had one rather than just putting it off for once reason or another.

We headed off on Friday around 11am ish after running some errands.

The journey wasn’t too bad, it was quite hot and by the time we got here I was really feeling it. We went to check in and that’s where the main hiccup started. We didn’t have our confirmation pack because we moved house in November. We had called last week and spoke to someone in customer service who said that it would all be fine and we just needed to explain that we didn’t have our pack. No problem right?

Our booking sheet that we were given in June last year said 4 nights from the 9th July (okay so we arrive Friday and leave Tuesday Morning). We get to check in and they can’t find our packet. At first we think it’s just been misplaced and so we hover and wait for most other people to check in.

About 3:15pm a lady from the check in team comes and tells us what the problem is. We’d been booked in for 4 nights as expected but they had us as leaving on the 9th not arriving on the 9th. They were expecting that we’d come on the 5th and leave on the 9th. Hence no welcome pack. If we wanted to stay this weekend there was going to be an additional charge as the week slot was cheaper than the weekend slot. Well no, we weren’t going to pay extra because of their error so, lady goes to talk her manager about getting our booking amended and getting us sorted out. Upto this point she was still being nice and proving good service. (I on the other hand was melting, needed a lie down and some painkillers)

We hovered a little longer while she went off to see what could be done about the additional charge.

She reappeared with two door keys and a map in her hand. The manager had cleared the additional charge and we were booked in. We were in a slightly different block then planned but we were still on the same area as planned. She then makes a comment about how we should have questionned our booking and checked the dates – (erm okay but it’s your error) well my FIL had kinda had it bearing in mind that she’d been getting more ranty and up herself through this conversation. (I was still trying to stay out of it. I didn’t have the energy to get back in the car and drive home).

I did have the energy to tweet throughout the conversation and included the @wearebutlins SM account.

So we headed to our room. We couldn’t get into our accomadation until 4pm so we went and hung out with my in laws at their room. I lay down on the floor of my SIL’s room and died there for a few minutes.

Once we were able to get in at 4pm I came in and hit the bed. I was so hot and exhausted. I just needed to sleep for a bit. That Boy and his parents went to our car and grabbed our bits.

I nodded off and slept on and off through till dinner. Similarly to last year we were in a Dinner, Bed and Breakfast. Because both breakfast and dinner are All You Can Eat by the time you get to lunch you only really want a snack if anything!

After dinner I came back to our room and crashed out again. I felt pants. I crashed for about half an hour and drank like a gallon of water then felt a bit better. We went to play pool which would have been okay but it was so warm I drank a whole bottle of water and then a glass of diet cola. After that we came back and crashed.

LOTR

This week I’ve watched LOTR: The Two Towers and now I’m watching The Return of The King.

I was looking for a map of Middle Earth to see where all the bits where in relation to each other then I found this one and thought it was kinda interesting.

Now as you can see there are interesting shaded bits on it like around the Shire and Old Forest. Middle Earth was from the imagination of J.R.R. Tolkien but this map really makes it look like it could have been real.

Allsorts

It’s Thursday. Technically it’s my Friday for this week – but then I am working next Friday so it’s kinda like I work a split week lol. (yup 4 on 1 day off this week 4 off 1 on next week) Originally I’d planned to take the whole week off (including the Friday) but my manager goes on holiday on the Monday so I thought if I came back for the one day then we can handover and stuff and then be sorted for the next week.

I’ve still got a week in August booked off but I’m not sure what to do. I want to go and have a proper adventure off somewhere but I don’t know if I want to go on my own. I thought about getting a cheap flight and going to Dublin or something like that – but can I really do that on my own? The other option is that I go to MK or something like that the Saturday before buy fabrics and make a blind for the kitchen and other bits like that. I asked That Boy about making a blind and stuff but he got all like “Whats the point? It doesn’t get used anyway” and that general boy stuff.

Then again Dad should have the Monday off work so I could go hang out with him then and then hang out with my Mum on Thursday which is sometimes her quiet day. (She’s self employed so I’m sure even quiet days are actually busy lol.)

I have days where I read some blog posts and am just like – how cute/fab/awesome is that (and in the words of Em @ Today’s Letters – some things just need leg kicks and fist pumps! Lol)

1. Kaelah and Trisha who blogs at MarySew have made a fab joint giveaway and you can enter at MarySew’s blog here.

2. There is another giveaway here at Pearls, Lace and Ruffles – I found this blog today after the lovely D came and commenting on one of my posts earlier today. You can read about it here.

3. Today’s Letters is so lovely that you just have to read! Em and Mr L. are so fab! I think if I met them in real life we’d get on stupidly well lol (that’s just my opinion – maybe I’m wrong. lol). Everyday is super sweet but yesterday just topped it! Have a read here.

Wedding Wednesday (A response to Kaelah)

There are a few blogs that I read every time there is a new post and most of the time I drop a comment and leave it there but I decided to join in on this one lol.

The super lovely Kaelah does a post on a Wednesday (or sometimes Thursday lol) called Wedding Wednesday and each time she posts some super cute pictures of weddings that she’s found across the internet.

Well today she ended her post with:

And for the weekly wedding question: Dresses! Often seen as one of the most important facets of a bride’s big day! What style of dress are you fond of? What would you like to (or what did you) sport down the aisle? Princess skirt? Mermaid? Stark White vs. Ivory? Lace or Beading? Or just a simple little white sundress to keep it casual? Let’s hear them all!

Well that was that I decided I would post some of my pictures and link back to her blog. All my photos on this post were taken by my best friend Kewey. She came and did my make-up (she was allowed behind the scenes lol).

I loved my dress. When I started looking I decided that I didn’t want something skinny and slinky because I’d look really silly because I’m not really skinny enough to carry it off.

I looked at coloured dresses as well –  mainly because I’ve never really got on with white outfits – I usually end up spilling something down it. I also looked at dresses with sleeves but decided that even thought it was the middle of May it could have been really warm. My other main stipulation that the straps were wide enough that I didn’t have to worry about falling out of the dress. Having been a waitress for a catering company during my teens, I’ve seen many brides having to hitch their dress back up again because of the lack of straps!

My only main issue was that the boning that supported the corset style top kept digging into my ribs. It’s worth making sure you are comfy and sitting down in the dress in the middle of the shop and slouching to make sure you are comfy – it’s a long day but soooo worth it lol.

Before The WeddingBack of the Dress
And of course silly pictures are a must:
Jazz Hands

My friend on FB said that although all my serious pictures were lovely there was something about this silly one that was just sooo me!
Climbing Frame

As explained at the top the idea is Kaelah‘s and my post is just a response to that. I’m happy for the photos to be re-posted but please let me know first and link back here thank you muchlie.

Super Grandad to the Rescue!

If I was any good at drawing, right now I would be sketching out a picture of my Grandad dressed as a superhero, I say superhero but he’d be wearing blue overalls with a cape and his Jesus sandals lol.

On Thursday after band, a friend pointed out that the front drivers side wheel was a little bit low on air and that I really probably should go stick some in it before going home. So I did. The car then spent most of the weekend in the driveway or parked outside church.

I was on my way home from work yesterday and the steering went a bit funny – at first I thought I’d just clipped a bump, it was about two metres later that I realised it had goe funny because I had a flat. I pulled over straight away and examined what had happened.

Unfortunately I hadn’t really stopped in the best place as there was a transit van across and along the road a little bit from where I had stopped and the traffic had to keep giving way and things like that. I got out my phone and called That Boy so he knew why I wasn’t home at normal time (especially as we were due to go to the cinema) While I was on the phone I got the jack out of the boot and then once I was off the phone I got the spare wheel out and put it on the curb next to the car.

Now normally I would have had the cover off the wheel and would have attempted to get the wheel off myself but with the fact that it was quite a busy road I decided that I would sit on the passenger side of the car and call Grandad. I phoned him and he said about being in the middle of his tea (I did say to finish his dinner first but I have the feeling that he dropped everything to come and help me out).

So SuperGrandad arrives and I stand there feeling like a complete loser, he takes off the cover and normally the bolts are done really tight with one of those air pressure screwdriver thingies, well Grandad undoes them like they are nothing lol.

After a little while the traffic starts to calm again so I go and stand next to the car and help where I can lol. My job was then to undo the jack that was holding the car up as Grandad did the bolts back up again on the spare.

When I got home my brother was about to go shopping so I asked him and my housemate to get a big jar of chocolate raisins for him, he really loves them and he’s helping us with some other bits round the house so it’s like a super big thank you.

I Did It

So from my last post I then went to rinse out the dye and put through the conditioner stuff Now I’m sat here with the towel round my head waiting for The Kiwi and my brother to arrive so that we can carry on watching A Town Called Eureka.

——–

Doh! So that was actually about two hours ago and now it’s 11pm on Sunday night. I sorted my hair and now it’s drying I took some more pictures which will all be uploaded to my Flickr photostream.

I’m kinda glad I did it today rather than have my grey hairs show up in my photos next Thursday from the shoot thingy with My Mum.

So I was writing about what I had been upto.

This morning I had church. As much as it was a normal service because the young people were away the church seemed really empty – I guess alot of people were on holiday as well. I spend alot of the worship time hanging out with one of the lads. We were looking through his book called Mini Maks. It’s a bit like Where’s Wally but it’s in polish and all the cartoons were bible stories. So I learnt that Arko Noego is Noah’s Ark, Samuel in Polish is Samuela and the most interesting (or at least I thought it was) is Księga Wyjścia which is “Book of Exodus”. (Deuteronomy is Księgi Powtórzonego Prawa which seems like a massive mouthful lol) Okay so learning to speak Polish is a whole different thing to being able to read a few phrases from a kids book – but I guess it’s a start right lol. I can start reading the bible in Polish as well as English, French and Italian.

Anyhoo we had fun and some of them were really hard. I popped out of the service quickly to drop some bits next door for the Connect Group Picnic. The Murf spoke today and his preach was really interesting – he managed to fit Supernatural, Lost, Lord of The Rings, The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe and Doctor Who into the same preach. I guess thats his way.

I went to the picnic but because Lambkin was poorly we ended up hanging out at Caz’s house which was kinda cool anyway. I sat in the living room with Lambkin and some of the other kids and we watched Home Alone before lunch – It came out in 1990 that means I was 4 when it came out! How crazy is that lol. Then after lunch me and Lanbkin sat in the living room watching Home Alone 2. I didn’t watch all of it as I decided to come home and hang out here. (I have a bit of a sore throat and in general I wasn’t feeling totally great.)

I started watching Twilight and tidied up round the house as there was a maybe about having guests this evening. I then went to collect That Boy from church after they got back from the residential.

We came home for tea and I watched the rest of Twilight – I spend half the film explaining to That Boy who Victoria, James and Laurent were and way they were chasing Bella and Edward. (I didn’t mind it was nice that he took an interest in something I was doing but I kinda wanted to through the Twilight book at him so that he could catch up lol.)

Around 8ish That Boy decided to head to bed and I ended up going to do my hair – I think doing it in the mirror rather than over the bath works a bit better but it still goes everywhere (as you can see from the pictures). The Kiwi and The Stig arrived around 9ish and we watched two more episodes of Eureka – I am loving that show! (Yay apparently Season 3 comes out in the US in a few weeks which is exciting lol)

Anyhoo bed time now – night night one and all.

To Dye or Not To Dye

The before semi natural look lol. I think my hair is reasonably close to it’s natural colour but when I compared to the chart thingy there is a red tinge to some of it now lol.

As I write this post I am sat in the middle of the bathroom waiting for my hair dye to take. I was thinking of going mahogany red again but the dye that I use no longer sell the plummy mahogany red that I like so I went for Cosmic Blue in the Schwarzkopf Live Colour XXL range – it’s black with like a blue tint.

I have the feeling that I’ve dyed my ears and most of my neck a funny blue colour now but I guess time will tell. I need to phone the hairdresser in the morning and book an appointment to trim the ends of my hair as they are really eugh lol.

So Happy Independence Day to any US readers. On Friday when I was at work one of my UK colleagues was talking to one of my US colleagues about the weekend and the US colleage asked how the UK Colleague was spending the long weekend. Erm well seeing as it isn’t a long weekend for us I guess UK Colleague will be back in work on Monday (that’s when we got into the conversation about seeing as we work for a US company couldn’t we have off the days for US holidays as well (such as Independence Day and Thanksgiving.)

Anyhoo, Friday was my brothers birthday. He turned 22. He had some friends round for pizza so I went to invade as well. Me and Dad picked off some cherries from the tree in his garden. I guess we have about enough for maybe one or two puddings. First thing though I have to sit and pit them all (take the stones out the middle) I guess you can put them in the pudding still with the stones just that you have to pick them out as you go.

I wasn’t feeling too good and after spending 10 minutes stood over the lol I figured it was time to go home to bed. I got home and crashed in bed. Next thing I knew it was 5:30am ish Saturday morning.

Saturday

I spend most of Saturday on my own. The Kiwi had a famiy thing to go to and That Boy took the young people on a residential. I spend nearly all day doing washing. As we had lovely weather I alternated between washing and watching TV. I managed to watch the whole of Season 1 of A Town Called Eureka (which in the US and Australia it’s just called Eureka). My brother received Season 2 as a birthday presen so yesterday after going to the supermarket I went to his house and hung out with him and The Kiwi eating Chinese food and watching Season 2

(time up I’ll be back with another installment)

Day 1147 (2nd July) – Day 1149 (4th July)

I’ve started putting the actual date as well other wise I get confused when catching up on a couple of days in one go.

You were away this weekend with the young people which was nice to have the space but I missed you a whole bunch – especially when I came home early from my brothers party because I felt really ill. You’d taken the young people camping in our friends garden – I’m not entirely sure how they felt about having the young people there but I think they were just pleased that they weren’t causing havoc and upsetting people lol.

The Stig’s birthday was good – before dinner I hung out with Dad in the garden and we picked loads of cherries of the tree. I spent most of the time hanging out with Mum and Dad in the living room catching up on TV rather than hanging out with my brother and his friends (who wants their big sister hanging out with them!) After The Stig blew out the candles I had some cake but then started feeling really ill – I’d already got a headache anyway but I think the cake pushed it over that line between coping and dying lol. I was worried it was a migraine and I felt really nauseous and spent like 10 minutes stood over the loo (how attractive lol)

I drove myself home got ready for bed and just curled up, I really needed a hug big time but there was no one there. I woke up Saturday morning feeling better but had that foggy feeling you get after a headache 🙁 I woke up around 5:30am and almost considered getting up and starting the day there and then
I spend most of Saturday on my own. The Kiwi had a famiy thing to go to. I spend nearly all day doing washing. As we had lovely weather I alternated between washing and watching TV. I managed to watch the whole of Season 1 of A Town Called Eureka. Then around tea time I went to his house and started watching Season 2 with him and the Kiwi – we watched quite a lot of it but I’m going to need to borrow the DVD from him.

Comments

Found here

Okay so me like most people love comments. I love to know that people out there are reading my blog and then taking the time to share their thoughts with me. Even if it’s just a quick “Hi how are you?” kind of comment. However the one thing that I really really REALLY don’t like are spam comments. So I’ve been tinkering around in those setting pages to try and minimise my spam around here I’ve decided that after 21/14 days comments on my posts will be closed – now if you happen to be reading an old post and you’d like to comment on that old post and there isn’t a box, feel free to drop me an email or tweet me @girltaristhan.

EDIT: 14 seems to be a better choice so I’m going with that for now

What I Don’t Get…..

Again I started commenting on someone’s blog and my thoughts got away with me.

My friend Rickie posted a list of “12 Things I Don’t Get But Everyone Else Loves” and most of them I agree that I don’t have the foggiest why people like or even love some of the things – but there are some that I do really like (and even then I don’t have any idea why I do lol)

1. Glee
I love Glee – and to be honest I don’t get why people like it anyway lol. It’s like High School Musical in multiple parts lol. I think it appeals to my Musical Theatre-ness and therefore I like it by default or something lol.

2. The Gaga Woman
I don’t get her AT ALL. I can see that the flamboyant-ness kind comes maybe from David Bowie, Freddie Mercury and maybe even someone like Grace Jones but I still don’t get her. There’s a video on YouTube of her performing as Stephanie Germanotta – rather than her Lady Gaga persona and she looks like a normal girl next door. She has brown hair and is sat behind a piano. I guess to become famous she had to create the persona so that she lost that “Girl Next Door” look. I have two of her songs on my iPod but they are covers by other people rather than her originals lol. (Bad Romance and Poker Face as covered by the cast of Glee – usually Poker Face is the only one that gets played)

3. Reality TV, especially when it features famous people I have never heard off
I used to watch Big Brother – semi-religiously at first it was funny to see all these people semi trapped in this strange world but after Cameron won in about 2004 (maybe I’m guessing) I stopped watching it, it was going down hill and was loosing it’s novelty and now – what’s the point? I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here – again is really not my cuppa – what’s the point to it now?

4. Wanting to be famous for no apparent reason; ’Stars’ spawned from talent shows: Jedward, JLS et all. Talent shows are great for comics, magicians and variety show entertainers but I like my rock n roll via the traditional ‘practised for years in the back bedroom’ route
I would say that at least three quarters of the music that I listen to was written/recorded before I was born. Yesterday morning I listened to Walking in Memphis by Marc Cohn and Bang a Gong (Get It On) by T-Rex on the way to work and felt like that was a good trip. A lot of the music now sounds so similar and doesn’t have the longevity that older music seems to have. If I ever get famous, I’d rather be famous for a good reason like because I achieved something big or made a difference in the world, rather than just because I was pretty or because I could sing (okay I can hold a tune and belt out at Karaoke but I can’t hit a money note like Leona Lewis or write creatively like Regina Spektor.) So for now I play Bass in the Church Band and sing in the other one and we’ll go from there.

5. Slebs I have never heard of (i.e. the ex-spouses of slebs I have barely heard off)
After Doctor Who on Saturday me and a friend were discussing Doctor Who and what could have been (I thought a twist where Amy gets slightly muddled and somehow the Doctor ends up as her Groom and Rory has just disappeared would be interesting). We then some how got onto how Matt Smith and Karen Gillen are a really cute couple – this led us on to if they had offscreen partners – then I asked who is Daisy Lowe (Matt’s Girlfriend) apparently she’s a model or something like that – I think this answers the point. I’m so not into celebrity I can just about name films stars and what they’ve been in but other than that spouses/partners etc doesn’t really bother me too much.

6. Harry Potter
Again no idea lol. I read all the books while I was at Upper School (and maybe while I was at uni). I was strange enough to go to the Midnight release of Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows here in Bedford (and then spent a lot of the day reading the book) but I was a teenager and was a strange being even then. Actually no I wasn’t a teenager because That Boy stood in the queue with me and we walked back to No 90. Therefore that means I was 21 because I was married.
If you think I’m strange for that, I can top it there are actual bands in the USA who write Harry Potter themed music. A few are below with links:

All Caps,
The Parselmouths,
The Moaning Myrtles,
Harry and the Potters
The Ministry of Magic
The Owl Post
The Whomping Willows

(I’m tired and it’s still kinda hot – I’ll be back with links tomorrow)

7. Gok Wan and the like. Why do so many suddenly need help with what they wear? Everyone wants to be on TV, even the badly dressed and supposedly lacking in confidence but going on TV to tell the world, they can do that no problem.
I prefered Trinny and Susannah but that was years ago – I think it’s had its day right? Gok Wan is kinda cool – I like the show where he recreates a catwalk look on a high street budget but other than that I don’t really get it.

8. Cheryl Cole
This relates to the above thing about people being famous via reality shows and talents shows. She does have talent and has managed to go above and beyond her talent show roots but without that talent show she wouldn’t have been famous in the first place.

9. British cupcakes. They are fairy cakes with more cream. Lovely as they are and eat them I will, but they are not cupcakes. Can’t we just leave something British?
Last Weds we discussed the ins and outs and the differences between a cupcake a muffin and a fairy cake lol. See Connect Group has it’s uses lol. I think if I ever make it to the USA my first stop is going to be a proper bakery for a proper USA style cupcake. I have a cupcake recipe book at home but they are still glorified fairy cakes rather than cupcakes.

10. Vampire shows
I used to watch Buffy – it was on at 6pm on weekday nights – we’d watch it on a Wednesday before Star Trek and then talk about it on Thursday at school. Then there was Angel – which was pretty much a spin off. I watched Interview With The Vampire with my best friend. Kirsten Dunst was kinda creepy in that!

Then we ended up with this whole new breed of Vampire Stories. Twilight, The Vampire Diaries and True Blood (there are also some other teenage fiction books that have appeared on the back of Twilight) I’ve read all the Twilight books (apart from Midnight Sun and Bree Tanner – they are on my TBR list)

11. Watching football in pubs. I need to watch it on my own and without discussion or shouting at the man in black. I also want to watch it sober and when there is a major match on, no man is more important than the 22 on the pitch.
I watched the England match at church this weekend but was sat at the back next to the plug socket in the breeze that was coming through the open door rather than really watching the match.

12. iPhone / iPad I love gadgets and new technology so if a new & improved version of the iPad comes out that doesn’t show up finger prints on the screen in a couple of years, no doubt I’ll be forced to buy one. Similarly if the iPhone manages to reduce it’s seemingly 1000s of apps so that the battery lasts more than the reported 37 minutes of continuous use, that would be a deal maker too.
I agree on the iPad thing – it is a lot of money for something that isn’t really compatible with other bits and pieces – like how do you run a presentation? If my Macbook dies (please hoping it doesnt) then I would be replacing it with a new macbook rather than an ipad because of the amount of things that I do on my MacBook that I can’t do on the iPad (Although it is very nice and if someone offered to buy me one I wouldn’t turn my nose up at it)

Also as nice as the iPhone is and it would have been cool to be there on release day there are still so many bugs – my brothers friend upgraded and I bought his old iPhone – it’s doing me fine – I have found it more reliable than my BB thats for sure. (Even in the two days that i’ve been back on an iPhone)

I Got Tagged! – You’re It!

There are a few blogs that I go and read but haven’t made it to my RSS yet (mainly because I need to clear it out a bit first lol)

One of these is Life in Technicolour by Becca. She tagged me for this post – similar to my one last week (or maybe the week before lol)

Here are my 8 questions:

1. If you were a geometric shape what would you like to be?

Oh I don’t know lol. Probably something complicated like a hexagon or a pentagon – then again maybe a dodecagon.

2. What is your favorite animal and why?

Erm I like Marmoset Monkeys and Dolphins lol. Probably not that original lol.

3. What song on the radio right now is currently at the top of your guilty pleasure list?

Erm this morning they played Walking in Memphis by Marc Cohn and Bang A Gong (Get It On) by T-Rex on my way to work – these are two songs that my Dad used to play me loads when I was younger.

4. If you were lost in the forest alone and a bear came up to you, what would you do?

Curl up in a ball and play dead – does that work? then again if a bear was in the woods near my house then I’d climb a tree and wait for someone to rescue me lol.

5. In your opinion, what is the most annoying show on tv?

Big Brother – thank goodness we are on the last season!

6. What is the strangest thing you’ve ever eaten?

Calamari was pretty weird – it was like rubber bands lol. But other than that I think that is weird right?

7. What are your thoughts on 2012?

Well in 2012, the Olympics will come to London which is like the only time that it might happen in my life span. My Mum is going to be 50 and she’d really like tickets to an event at the Olympics  (and I’d really like to go to if I can lol)

8. What’s the craziest excuse you’ve came up with to skip work for a day?

I skived work once, I said I had a headache. Other than that I’ve never skived work.

Apparently I should post 8 questions too:

  1. What is your favourite item of clothing in your wardobe?
  2. What is your favourite film?
  3. Do you wear nail varnish and whats your favourite colour?
  4. Where’s the best place you’ve been on holiday?
  5. If you could go anywhere (in the universe) where would you go?
  6. If you could reccomend me a blog, which would it be?
  7. What did you do today?
  8. If we could hang out for one day what would we do?

Day 1141 (26th June)

Okay massive fail moment – I’ve not written in 20 days! Thats along time – Okay need to work on that lol. I think I am going to curl up in the chair in the living room and work on a whole summary for each day so that I can get it sorted.

Today was proper lazy to start with – even by 10am it was getting toasty – I love the gorgeous weather that we are having but it’s just so hot and sticky – it’s too uncomfy.

We decided to have a BBQ for lunch and invited my parents and my brother – it was lovely to see them. At 11ish I went to the supermarket – it was stupidly busy because the sun was shining – everyone wanted to have a BBQ before the football match this evening (Ghana played USA – I’m not sure who won). Tomorrow England play Germany – I think we are going to get our butts kicked but you never know we might survive to tell the tale.

Me and Rich discussed about his friend’s phone – I had thought it was a 3GS and actually it’s a 3G 🙁 I’m kinda disappointed but going back to a 3G is better than none at all and it’s better than my original iPhone and somehow I think it will be more reliable than my BB which I am actually going to through at the wall soon lol.

This evening Doctor Who was on. I want to tell you what happened but you were at church making drinks etc while the match was on.

Doctor Who Season Finale

I wanted to discuss the ending but so many people on Twitter in the USA were ranting about how they were trying to tweet about the football and loads of spoilers were being posted about Doctor Who – it’s crazy to think that normally it’s us in the UK complaining about the people in the US commenting on TV shows that we are waiting for lol.

Anyhoo lots of posts to write!

My Weekend Part 3

So on Saturday as part of my 101 Things and just because I would like to go to an event, I went to London for the Girl Geek Day in Regent Street. Having been at Zoza’s sisters thing I was already tired lol. I hadn’t slept that well and kinda missed my own bed!

I got up and got myself sorted. Me and the girlies flopped out on the sofa for about 15 minutes and just hung out. Zoza then walked me to the train station while she went to the store to get some bits for breakfast.

I hopped on the first train back into the centre and got very excited. At Charing X I got a little confused as to which way I needed to walk – London is so very confusing sometimes. (As my Dad says when you’re on the tube it seems like everything is either too close together or to far apart – especially when you then try to walk it overground).

Anyhoo I managed to get to the Apple Store. I really needed a drink – it was just past 10 and the temperature was already soaring. I had a look round and I couldn’t see a Starbucks or Costa or similar brand. I was about to try and use my phone then realised – I have a whole store of internet reliable mac-enabled ness behind me – why don’t I use their connect rather than my not so good BB connection?

I headed into the store and got playing on an iPad, and admittedly the whole getting a drink went to the back of my mind! I was a little unsure where we were supposed to be meeting to I went and hovered upstairs where it was a little less busy.

I saw a guy walk past in a Girl Geek shirt and so figured that I was in just about the right place. I sat down in the “lecture theatre” area at the back upstairs and waited for some more people to arrive.

At about 11am it all kicked off. We started with a presentation from Jess Greenwood (of Contagious Magazine) and Vikki Chowney (of Reputation Online) about Digital Cows and the Post Digital Age (if you want an explanation let me know lol)

After the presentation we headed off on our adventure, at first we had to go to Swarovski Crystallized in Great Marlborough Street – their upstairs area was working as our base camp for the day – you could go back and charge your phone and leave your bits there if you needed to.

I headed back out to the street and decided to get started.

I was stood on the pavement trying to work out where I was in relation to the other shops. As I’m stood there a lovely lady comes and started chatting to me and sort of adopted me – for the rest of the day lol. Lovely Lady does have a name – she’s called Fox. (I’m not sure if it’s a nickname or if she is actually called Fox – but it’s all good -she’s fab and she looked out for me)

We headed to The Organic Pharmacy (which was next door lol). Our freebie here was a hand massage and a bar of chocolate – because it was next door lots of people headed in there first so there was a bit of a queue.

Following that we went to Anthropologie in Regent Street. I wanted to write loads about my day but it’s now a week later and I just haven’t had chance. Instead we are going to have a bullet point summary and I’ll be back with more detail as it comes back to me lol.

Godiva – posh yummy chocolates lol. Me and Fox both had a moment in this store – they had chocolates like Roses chocolates – they were £45 per kilo! At a rough quess thats 8 times more than a kilo of Roses chocolates lol. We were given a chocolate covered strawberry and two of the chocolates from the counter – I got a fruit pastille thingy and a chocolate (I took them both home and shared them with my Mum)

Tibits – Next up we headed here for lunch. I was beginning to get a headache which was a real shame. I grabbed my drink and downed some painkillers I was determined not to have to go home early because I was ill. I drunk down as much of my diet cola as I could manage. So we had lunch, Tibits is a vegetarian restaurant (http://www.tibits.co.uk/) tucked away just off the main thoroughfare along Regent Street. I had alot of pasta and couscous as it seemed to be the think that I liked lots. I also tried Butter Beans (yup thats another added to my 101 things!)

Hawes and Curtis – I love this shop! Technically it only sells shirts – which isn’t very exciting but you imagine a pattern and chances they have it in some variation! Me and Fox spend quite a while in here chatting to one of the assistants and looking at the shirts. (We actually ended up going back so that Fox could buy a couple of shirts and if I had had some money I was going to buy a shirt – then again it’s not like I meet people – I spent 90% of my day behind a computer answering a phone)

Next we headed off to Bose where the was a presentation about surrond sound and how home cinemas should be easy to set up – it was good fun and informative but I felt a little out of my depth lol. (£200+ for a set of headphones – I get through headphones like no ones business – at £200 I would hope that they would last a few years!)

Following that we went to see a Pirate about a puzzle. Outside Hamleys there was a guy dressed as a pirate playing a paper guitar – my favourite shirt started a conversation as it was about Rock and Roll.

Next up was the National Geographic store – I think both me and Fox had ideas of what it might be like and then it was very different. We had fun chatting with some of the shop people then we headed back upstairs to grab a cocktail. I wasn’t really sure what I fancied (I don’t tend to drink cocktails and if I do they are homemade non-alcoholic ones).

I just decided to pick one at random – I choose a Cosmopolitan – Fox had asked for the same – it had a certain kick to it then again it did have a fair share of alcohol in it.

I have so much more to say about the day but I need to leave it there for now and come back to it a bit later.

Day: 90
Goals to go: 79 (including in progress)
How many started: 13
Also must find out where the 101 thing disappeared to lol.

What Does The TV I Watch Say About Me….

Kaelah asked this:

So, my point is, What TV Shows Do You Recommend?! I like drama, romance, romantic comedies, comedies, etc. Maybe I’ll just pick back up in the middle of Entourage? Hmm… Help a girl out!

So I started answering – it’s only when I got to about the fourth show that I realised – I might need to change this into a post. (As I write this little intro thingy I’m already hitting 300 words!)

So first up there’s Doctor Who – yes I have watched every episode since it re-launched in 2005 with Christopher Eccleston as the Doctor and Billie Piper as the companion. Out of all three, David Tennant is my favourite of the new incarnations but so far no one quite beats Tom Baker (and the Jelly Babies!). Matt Smith is getting better thought but I think he’s a different cup of tea to Eccleston and Tennant.

Next up is Bones, I love Bones – Emily Deschanel and David Boreanaz are genius together. I’m not quite as Bones crazy as some of the FanGirls on Twitter. With the fact that Hart Hanson (Creator/Writer) and Kathy Reichs (the original creator of the Temperance Brennan character) are both on Twitter there are plenty of questions asked. Season 5 just finished recently and Season 6 is due to start in the autumn (I nearly wrote Fall! What is going on there?!)

NCIS – Abby is one of my faves! She’s awesome! I wish I worked in an office where I could have my music on as loud as she does lol. McGee is cool as well – Ducky is the token English person – believe me we don’t all talk like him lol. The spin off NCIS: Los Angeles is okay but I do prefer the original, also one of the characters reminds me of Edna Mode from The Incredibles lol.

House – Hugh Laurie is just fab! He puts on such a flawless American accent that when I then hear him on TV shows and being interviewed and he speaks in his normal voice he sounds totally strange and like he’s putting on an English accent. If you want to hear more about how fab Hugh Laurie/Gregory House is – chat to Angelika

What else….?

Lie to Me – Tim Roth plays Doctor Lightman runs The Lightman Group, they accept assignments from various law enforcement, reaching the truth by using applied psychology, interpreting micro-expressions, body language and nonverbal communication.

Grey’s Anatomy – This follows the lives of interns, residents and their mentors/tutors at Seattle Grace Hospital (During Season 5/6 it became the Seattle Grace-Mercy West Hospital). When I find which channel it’s on I’m going to start watching Private Practice (this was a spin off from Grey’s Anatomy, following the life of Dr. Addison Montgomery as she leaves Seattle Grace in order to join a private practice in Los Angeles.

I posted a shortened version of the above in a comment to Kaelah only then to realised that I’d missed The Mentalist. I think both Jane and Lisbon are a proper double act, I’ve read on some forums how people think that maybe there should be a bit of romance between them but I don’t think it would work – on the other hand Van Pelt and Rigsby so belong together. If you saw the A episode and they have to decide whether to be together and one of them gets transferred or they break up so they can stay in the same team. Rigsby was willing to make that choice for her – sooo sweet!

Anyhoo so there is my whole post from my comment on Kaelah’s Blog.

Fill In The Gaps

I’m working on a long post about my adventures from the weekend but for now I have a small post to fill in. Amy over at Finding Everything Lovely posted these questions at the end of her post and I decided to answer.

EIGHT TAGS FOR 8 questions.

1. Do you eat at Taco Bell? If no, why? If yes, what is your favorite thing to order?

I haven’t ever eaten at Taco Bell – I live in the UK and haven’t made it to the USA yet lol. But when I do I will be sure to write about it and what I eat!

2. Are you going to the Eclipse midnight showing in your city/town? if yes, do you have an entourage? if no, what do you think about the people who ARE going? BEEEEE HONEST ;). ha ha ha.

I don’t think there is one at my local cinema. If there was one and I was going – I’d either be going on my own or would have an entourage of two (my Cousin and my Aunt lol)

3. Do you exhibit Road Rage? If so, what do you typically do to show your distaste for a stupid driver?

Maybe a little – it tends to be at taxi drivers who cut you up or buses that pull out in front of you. I think I get a little irritated with lane hoggers on the motorway (people who move to the fast lane but then slow down to like 50 for no reason). I think what gets me most irritated is when That Boy gives me a running commentary of what I’m doing wrong – he then wonders why I turn the radio up lol.

4. Who is your primary inspiration? Why?

At this point I’m sure I’m supposed to say God is my primary inspiration, to do stuff to praise him and worship him as worship isn’t just singing at church on Sunday. I do think I have inspiration from other places too but I can’t pinpoint any atm!

5. Did you play with Barbies when you were little?

I didn’t have proper Barbies –  I had Sindys – I think they were like Barbie’s half price alternative lol. Sindy looked nearly exactly the same but I think enough difference not to copyright.

6. What was your WORST hair do, ever? Cut? Color? post a picture if you have one.

Either when I had my hair cut upto my ears about two years ago (before I grew my hair long again) or when I had a free cut when I was in London and they wouldn’t listen to what I wanted they just went ahead and cut.

7. Are you political?

Probably not – I think I know more about US politics then I do about UK politics. How does that work?

8. What do you think about Harry Potter?

He rocks lol. Okay so I’m not as HP crazy as some people but I have read the books and am definitely going to see Deathly Hallows Part One when it comes out in Nov/Dec.

My Weekend Part 2

So I make it to the top of the stairs at Covent Garden tube and headed for the door. I got to the outside world and the heavens were opening all over the pavement lol. I put up my umbrollie and the first time it collapsed on my head – I just decided that I hadn’t put it up properly. So I put the umbrollie back up a second time and started wandering away from the tube station because I figured it would be quieter – as I headed for the wall near M&S and someone walked into my umbrollie and it collapsed again over my head.

Again I put it down to that the person had caught it so I put it back up again and grabbed my phone to call Zoza – I knew the cafe was somewhere in Covent Garden, it was just a case of where in Covent Garden. I started heading towards the Market as thats where I nearly always go while I am in Covent Garden. While I was on the phone Zoza, she tells me that I need to walk the other direction. So I started walking the other direction and my umbrollie collapsed on my head again – the third time was the final straw lol. Once I was off the phone I folded up my umbrollie and headed for the cafe (it’s called Cafe Eterno and it’s run by some fab people from London City Mission) luckily enough Zoza and her friend were stood outside waiting for me. I got in and abandoned my stuff and did a once over on the umbrollie – it was broken (the plastic bit that holds up the umbrollie had got a cut straight through it where it makes contact with the metal bit – yeah that makes sense lol).

(I didn’t take the pic it was gloomy when I was there)

I got to the café and Zoza, her Mum and her sister were tucking into chips from the local chip shop – I hadn’t realised actually how hungry I was so I went to grab some food. The chippy is called The Rock and Sole Plaice (Yes it’s supposed to be spelt like Plaice rather than place lol.) The guy who served me was so helpful. I’d dropped some of my change and he popped round the counter to try and help me find it (he’d just given me my food so I had the bag in one and with my can of Sprite balanced in that hand too then my phone in the other hand.)

I headed back to the café but was so in my own little bubble that I walked straight past the café – it was only when I got to Urban Outfitters that I realised lol. I turned back and walked back to the café. I had got a fish cake and chips – I expected it to be like a bright orange fish cake like you get at the chippies around here (like a pre-processed made jobbie) – my fish cake was a proper homemade style one and it was lush! I really liked it! I would most definitely recommend it if you are in the area (The address is 45-47 Endell Street , WC2H 9AJ)

Following the tea the proper event started. Zoza’s sister had managed to organise for a group of make up people from Bare Escentuals to come and do make unders. Yup not a make over a make under, it’s about natural beauty, the make up is make of like mineral powder dust stuff so rather than caking on like liquid foundation and make up can do it lets your skin breathe 

I took this first picture then That Boy told me I looked nice but I needed to have a smile so I took a second picture which looks better but you can probably tell that I felt like a right wally lol.

Following the make unders we sat and chatted for a little while then played a game. Every person writes a random question and then puts it in the hat (or in our case a bucket!). The bucket then goes to the first person who picks out a question and reads it – they then have to pick someone in the circle to ask it. We got to the end and I hadn’t been asked a question so the lady who was running the game came up with a question for me, it was along the lines of..

A leading London stage director walks in here, looks round the room and points at you he then says “You’re my next……” Which character would you want to play?

Eek! Well there are loads that I would like to play lol. My favourite two that sprung to mind were Meat (as made famous by Kerry Ellis) or Scaramouche from We Will Rock You (I couldn’t remember the names so I just said a female lead in WWRY) or Cosette/Eponine in Les Miserables.

After that we had a bit of a break and some of us wandered up to the shop where the make over people work – we hung out there for a little while and had a look at a multitude of different colours of eye shadow, foundation and eyeliner.

Following that we headed back and played Pass the Parcel, rather than a standard game where you have a forfeit and if you opened that layer you do the forfeit this time you had to pick someone to pass it on to. It was good fun and I enjoyed it although some of the group didn’t. (or at least it seemed like they didn’t)

At the end of the party we walked from the Café through Covent Garden to Charing Cross station to head to bed – I was so shattered! Having finished work at 5 I hadn’t really stopped I’d caught the train by the skin of my teeth into London gone straight to the tube and straight to the party. I am so glad that I did have the crazies and got on with it though.

(Part 3 to follow – grab a coffee it could be a long one!)

Happy Daddy Day!

Happy Father’s Day

This is me and my Dad. I think this was taken at my Grandma and Grandad’s Wedding Anniversary party when I was about 3 or 4 (as my brother also appears in the larger version of this picture).

My Dad rocks!

There’s a particular story that he tells about when I was young. My Mum would take care of the house and my Dad looked after the garden – including cutting the grass, well the garden at my parents takes up quite a big bit of the garden. Well this one particular time he was out cutting the grass and I ran out into the garden in floods of tears – my Dad thought I’d hurt myself and I was in such a state that I couldn’t really string the sentence together. Anyway, I was crying about the fact that as Dad cut the grass he was cutting the heads of the daisies! Trust me to freak out over that lol.

My Weekend Part 1

So this weekend turned into a bit of a spontaneous adventure.

I found out about the Regent Street Girl Geek event maybe about two weeks ago and thought I would sign up for it.

Then on Tuesday I got an invite to an event on the Friday evening at a cafe in Covent Garden. I wasn’t too sure because I didn’t know where I was going to sleep but Zoza had already got it in hand 🙂

So here I am at my sleepover destination about 10ish minutes walk from Lewisham train station. I’m shattered lol but so excited about today I think I just need a cola and I’ll be ready to go lol.

So yesterday, I got on the 1750 from Bedford to St Pancras – I was able to charge my phone on the way and I’m so glad I did as I got to chat to Weefz (also Twitter) about today and realised that I wasn’t the only one who had semi planned a route around the shops lol. (Well there was my alarm so need to get up soon)

I arrived in St Pancras and it was as busy as usual – I’d come in on a East Midlands Train rather than a Midland Mainline so I came into Platform 4 (which is upstairs next door to Eurostar) I headed for the tube and noticed something different the new Northern Ticket hall has been opened – and I had a deja vu of the ticket hall at La Grand Defense in Paris (just wish I had photos of both to confirm). I saw a sign for Platforms 8-11 and was very tempted to see if I could get to Platform 9 and 3/4 but decided that it would be better to try and do on the way back when time wasn’t so much in short supply lol.

I headed for the Piccadilly Line to get to Covent Garden.

This is where I made a mistake. At Covent Garden due to the space restrictions there are two large lifts that run up and down from the platform to the ground level and a spiral staircase of 193 steps. Because so many people got off at the same time as me I decided I would try the stairs – what an idiot! I got half way and thought I was actually going to die there and then in the tube station lol. A lovely girl asked me was I okay and I kinda went “Yeah” and smiled and she carried on walking.

I stop again about three quarters of the way up and then finished the stairs – as much as I was an idiot for doing it rather than taking the lift.

I need to get dressed and ready for my day out but I will carry on with another post later.

30 Questions

Firstly yes I know I am lazy but I have extra blog posts to cram into this evening lol and 18 minutes of charge so that could be part of the challenge as well. In an impromptu turn of events I am away for a night this weekend and all day Saturday so we have a butt lazy post for today and then a proper post for tomorrow lol.

I saw the meme here on MissZoot’s Blog but it was also posted here first on Average Jane’s Blog.

30 Questions:

1. It’s 2am and you are not home. You are more than likely:
probably out with friends if I am out that late – which is rare. I think the last time I was out late was on Street Angels duty over a year ago – I sound so old!

2. What’s the last thing you spent more than $100 on?
Erm well $100 is about £67 which doesn’t really help lol. So what did I last spend £100 on, I think it was food shopping – it sounds like loads but we re-stocked the freezer so we shouldn’t need to do a big shop like that for a while.

3. What do your bank checks look like?
Standard issue from my bank – then again I don’t really use cheques that often – I think the last time I used a cheque was like 4 years ago!

4. Where did the shirt you are currently wearing come from?
The local supermarket – it’s their own brand for clothing

5. Name something that will be on your Christmas wish list:
I have no idea lol. There will be loads of books more than likely – there are always books on my wishlist lol. If money was no object I would have a new MacBook on there but that’s a dream one (especially while the current one still runs quite well lol.

6. What color is your toothbrush?
Pink handle with pink and white bristles.

7. Name something you collect and tell us about it.
Campervan themed items lol. I have a campervan T-shirt (then one mentioned above – when it’s been through the wash I’ll add a picture lol), I have various sizes of ceramic Campervans and beetles.

8. Last restaurant you ate at. Who were you with? How was it?
Pizza Hut on Monday with CJ, The Kiwi and two of her friends. Yup we had a houseful of Kiwis lol. It was good we had two half and half pizzas with cheesy bites (which is my favourite base)

9. Who was the last person you bought a birthday card for?
Zoza! It’s technically her birthday in the middle of July but because she’s gone home from uni for the summer we had cake and early birthday-ness at house group.

10. What is your worst bad habit?
Erm drinking too much fizzy, being a little bit lazy – I have to get my butt in gear lol.

11. Name a magazine to which you subscribe.
None, I sometimes buy Total Film and Empire but because of the cost and the speed that I read articles at, it’s not worth me buying them, I may as well put the £5 towards a new book.

12. Your favorite pizza toppings?
I regularly have just cheese and tomato – That Boy tells me off for being boring but sometimes it’s all I really fancy. BBQ sauce on pizza is growing on me though so I might start having that more but it’s got to be proper BBQ sauce not spicy BBQ.

13. Whose number were you looking up the last time you used a phone book?
An actually paper phone book? I think I ripped pages out to use in a journal rather than actually looking for a phone number lol. I just Google it most of the time if I need a phone number.

14. Other than family, who is the person that you love most?
Kewey – I think j/k lol. I would guess that my good friends would be up there. So Kewey, LB, The Shopaholic and JD. I think the Kiwi would be up there too – okay she’s not technically family but she’s our housemate so she’s near enough there more than family lol.

15. What is the last thing you cooked?
Actual cooking rather than a sandwich I’m not sure lol. Maybe pasta last week.

16. Name something you wouldn’t want to buy used?
I agree with MissZoot about the toothbrush

17. Which shoe do you put on first?
The one thats nearest maybe…I don’t really know

18. What is the last thing you remember losing?
My marbles – I know they are around somewhere, I just don’t remember where.

19. What is the ugliest piece of furniture in your house?
Erm I don’t know lol. I guess the sofas could do with some TLC but they were a present when we moved to our first flat because my Aunt and Uncle were getting a new suite.

20. Last thing you bought and ended up returning?
I don’t remember – it’s not often that I return things unless there is something properly wrong with them.

21. What perfume/cologne do you wear? If none, why?
I don’t tend to wear perfume as it makes me cough lol. So I stick with my deodrant and seems to do the trick lol.

22. Your favorite board game?
I really like Risk but I’m not very good at it.

23. What was the last board game you played?
Risk, well I’ve been playing the computer game lots but the proper board game version was like two weeks ago.

24. Where did your vehicle come from?
A garage in Leicester I think (That Boy sorted it all out)

25. If a movie was made about your life what would the theme song be?
Anyone Else But You by The Moldy Peaches

26. You’re sad, who can cheer you up easily?
Kewey or my Mum.

27. What was the color of the bridesmaid dresses of the last wedding you went to? Like dark red burgundy kinda colour I think.

28. What house cleaning chore do you hate to do the most?
Washing – it never goes away!

29. What is your favorite way to eat chicken?
Chicken Dippers

30. It is your birthday. You hope the cake is?
Made by my friend Bex – she is an amazing baker when it comes to cakes – she’s fab!

Review: Rebound Bag Tag

Most of the time when I’ve been abroad I’ve been by ferry (I was lucky enough to go on Eurostar back in May but that’s a whole other story!) back in 2005 I went to Turkey for a week. It was the first time I was going on an aeroplane and was a little worried that my suitcase might go walkies – so in my rucksack I had with me in the cabin I had my toothbrush, and a change of undies amongst other bits and pieces to tide me over if needed.

My tag on my suitcase would have identified me and where I lived but would have been no good if I was in Turkey for a week lol.

So this is a genius idea –  it’s called Rebound Tag. A lot of security companies recommend that you don’t put your details like your address etc on the tag that you put on your case – so instead you can put the rebound tag on there. Rather than your address being on show to the world there is a microchip number which can then be typed into the website (http://www.reboundtag.com) and then you are notified by SMS or email that your suitcase has been found.

I was sent one of these tags by FuelMyBlog to review – now obviously I hope that I don’t lose my case and I didn’t want to leave it behind on purpose to see what happened – however I have registered my tag and have it attached to the bag that I use everyday just in case it’s stolen or something like that. It was quick and easy to register my tag – although the barcode number on the tag is quite long it’s easy to read. Also when it came to adding my holidays to the website it was easy again, I’d added my main holiday within a few minutes – the bit that took the longest was actually looking for the holiday park phone number rather than the actual process of added the itinerary details.

You can buy a single tag for £19.99 from the website. The company also sell family packs (3 tags) or an Executive pack which is 10 tags. It is a lot more in comparison to a plastic key ring with a piece of card in it but you do have the piece of mind that your address etc isn’t on show to the world.

My main negative points would be the size of the tag – it’s 10cm x 6cm – when I had it attached to the outside of my handbag I kept catching it – at the moment it actually lives in one of the pockets, however with it being on my suitcase it was big enough to identify what it was. The other issue would be with regards to the pack sizes, having come from a family of four we would have had a suitcase each which would have meant buying a pack of 3 and then a single one – I think a pack of 4 or maybe even 5 would be a good option as well for larger families etc.

On the other hand I really think that it’s a good idea and I would consider purchasing another one for CJ’s case if and when we go abroad again (via plane because it’s hard to lose your case in a car lol).

Movies: SATC2

So SATC2 takes us back into the lives of Carrie, Charlotte, Sam and Miranda, it’s two years on from the end of SATC1. Carrie and Mr Big are like a proper married couple and have an apartment on Fifth Avenue which is there own. Carrie refers to it as being more realistically theirs (or at least in words to that affect). Miranda is still a lawyer  and a partner in the firm that she works for. However she’s really beginning to hate it – her boss has this thing against women and I guess specifically Miranda (especially when he takes one of her cases off her and gives it to one of the male partners – that was the final straw!) and still lives in Brooklyn with Steve and Brady. Brady is now in the Second Grade and she has to face the question of career vs seeing her son’s achievements. Charlotte is now a Mum of two gorgeous little girls. The eldest is now 4 ish and her second – who was a new arrival at the end of SATC1 – is now going through the terrible twos and giving her a headache. Sam is just being Sam lol. Other than the time frame moving on – the characters are the same.

Apart from an introduction to how Carrie ended up in New York and meeting the girls and what they’ve been up to at the beginning and an “epilogue” as such at the end most of the action takes place in the United Arab Emirates, specifically in Abu Dhabi.

The introduction includes some clever camera editing to flick from present day to past events as Carrie explains how she met the girls.

Her and Big’s relationship throughout the film poses the question of what happens after the “I Do”? SATC1 lead up to the will they/won’t they of getting married and SATC2 tried to carry that on – now I think it did work but others reviews that I’ve read don’t think that it did it justice. You have Carrie and Big questioning how they can spend time together and things like that but still be themselves – and who are they now that they are married and Charlotte is also kind of in on this as she questions whether she should see the Nanny as a threat to her and Harry’s marriage.

All in all I enjoyed it – it was funny and made me laugh, and it was sad too. Admittedly it wasn’t as sad as SATC1 but I definitely did a “oh no don’t make that happen here” moment. My main objection would have been how little respect there was for the cultures in Abu Dhabi – as much as it made it funny how uptight people were, that is there culture and surely you should respect that. Having been to Turkey and known how funny some people got about the clothes that girls wore around the markets and at the tourist sites – I knew that they were going to have to respect the local customs. By having Sam Having had sections of the TV show and the first film where the conversation is mainly about shoes (especially very expensive Manolo Blahniks) it’s quite funny to then see her by a pair of shoes from a market seller in the souk (an open air arabian market) for $20.

Alot of reviews that I’ve read has put this film in a bad light but I think you have to remember there are few TV shows that make the transition to the big screen and survive especially for a sequel (and then don’t start me on how sequels don’t live up to the prequel)

I kept noticing continuity errors which really annoyed my friend who I was sat with. Just look out for Sam’s nails in one of the shots – what is going on there?!

My question is, apart from the fact that the clothes might not fit me – could I play dress up in Carrie’s Wardrobe – some of her outfits are fab – others were a little off the wall and not really my cup of tea!

To Makeover or Not Makeover?

While I write this post, I’m watching The Devil Wears Prada. I am pretty sure I definitely fall into the pre-makeover look than the post-makeover. I guess I wish I could dress like the post-makeover Andrea. Although between not feeling like I have the figure to carry it off along with the comments I would receive, I’d probably rather stick to how I normally dress. But on the other hand, if I made the effort going out to customers and things like that might be more of a possibility. There is a pair of heels in my cupboard but I don’t think that they really fit that well – I guess if I wear them to the office I can always kick them off while I’m sat at my desk. Then again would then have to put them back on again to walk over to the photocopier or to the meeting room.

Andrea Sachs

I’ll talk to Caz about makeup lol. My regime is eyeliner and mascara – if I have time and can be bothered lol. If it wasn’t for the fact that I have plans on Saturday I could go wander around the shops in MK and pretend to have the money for a whole new wardrobe (then again Polyvore means I can dream right?)

Other looks I like……(argh! I can’t find any and it’s bedtime and I’m running out of Mac charge lol)

Funky Vintage Clothes

Okay so this might be a little confusing and you might need to read it twice but it’ll make sense in the end.

My Goddaughter’s other Godparent has a fab and talented girlfriend called Anna. She’s recently posted her Spring/Summer range on etsy.

This would be my favourite

You can also read about her outfits/see another creation here at The Vintage Academe.

You can find her Etsy store here and She is on Twitter.

Day 1120

You are a sleepyhead! This morning I got  up and went out, when I returned at about 12 you were just getting up. Me, Hazel Fairy and Mini Fairy were going to go see The Princess and The Frog but when we got there it was sold out. (Twice in one week the cinema has been sold out when I’ve been – whats going on.

In the end we saw The Tooth Fairy – The Murf had commented on FB about how it wasn’t very good – I thought it was okay and Mini Fairy loved it – especially the guy at the end playing (I think he was playing Sunshine of Your Lofe by Cream).

I got home and the Stig and Kiwi were cutting the grass – now you’ve all gone out to run some errands and grab some lunch. I’m waiting for the washing machine to finish so that I can hang the washing out.

Evening

This afternoon we hung out with The Stig and The Kiwi – after food we ended up playing Risk around the garden table – it was soo much fun – I managed to win the whole of North America in the end – I always get confused! I think I need to practice more lol.

Day 1119

Although given the weather a BBQ might have been more appropriate – we had a roast dinner sat at our garden table (it didn’t look like this one – It didn’t cross my mind to take a picture while tucking into it yesterday).

You’d come in from work and said that someone might be coming for dinner, you’d invited Mr W and The Murf but they were both busy or had other plans.

You decided that you wanted someone to come to dinner but you didn’t know who – so you decided to put an invite on Facebook to your friends.

That Boy is offering a free meal to the first person to turn up at my house!

Well then we waited to see if anyone arrived. The door bell did ring once but it was just next door wanting to take their ball back.

One of the lads from the youth group commented about coming round to dinner and if the invite would be open tomorrow evening as he was busy – or he was revising and so didn’t go on FB at the right time lol.

The One With The Summer Range

A while back I hosted a giveaway to win one of these journals. I received one of Katie’s Newletters today telling me about her fab summer range that came out today. How cute are these?!

I love the notelets/cards that Katie makes (If we lived closer, I’d ask her for a printing lesson lol). She has an Etsy shop which can be found here and she blogs here (go say hello and drop her a comment – she’ll love it!).

The One With The Post

So this week has been a bit of a post fest lol.

First I got this fab hairband, I purchased it from KaelahBee’s Etsy Shop

And these clips also came from there: (just one in the picture though)

Kaelah has been busy making all sorts of different hairbands and hair slides amongst other bits as she is raising money for her dog’s surgery. She has an English Bulldog called Georgia.

Meet Georgia…

She’s got to have surgery on her eyes because her eyelids are curling inwards so her eyelashes poke in her eyes 🙁

I need to go grab some lunch now before I go back to work for the rest of the day (4 ish hours till the weekend). Now the question is do I put my flip flops on or my DMs when I go back to work.

Day 1117

I made dinner for once rather than cheating with a ready meal or takeaway – It’s tricolore pasta (what ever we had in the cupboard), a dollop of tomato sauce, chunks of cheese  (the lump was too small to grate but too big to have in one go lol) and a bit of ham (the ham didn’t really work though).

I send you a picture by email and apparently you then showed it round to everyone at house group. I had gone to the cinema with Catz but the showing we went for was fully booked. Our local is never full – unless it’s like Harry Potter or LOTR and even then there were spare seats from what I remembered. (they were actually turning people away at the door!)

The One With The Good Life (in multiple senses)

I was brought up on a few random TV shows and bands including Donny Osmond, David Cassidy, Billy Ray Cyrus, Pink Floyd and Eric Clapton amongst others. Most of these fell by the wayside but there are some that still live on in my own choices like Layla by Eric Clapton (one of my favourite guitar solos *EVER*)

Anyhoo yesterday I was looking at the films and TV shows on iTunes – I’ve got 2 or 3 already and thought I’d have a look for some more. I was looking through the TV Shows and spotted The Good Life.

Now for those of you who don’t know, The Good Life was a sitcom started in the 1970s. It starred Richard Briers, Penelope Keith and Felicity Kendal. It follows Brier’s character as him and his wife (played by Kendal) as they become self sufficient.

Anyhoo my point is that – I’ve seen the first few episodes like 50 times each and yet they are still funny and they still make me laugh. I wasn’t even a twinkle when it started (in 1975 my Mum was at Upper School and my Dad was about to turn 20 so he was working).

It ran from 1975 to 1978. There were 4 series, making a total of 30 episodes (and now I have two series of it on my computer or iPod).

Are there any shows out there with that kind of longevity? In 30 years are we going to be re-watching House and commenting on how his bed side manner needs work or how McDreamy and Mer eventually get it together and at least semi-sorted in Grey’s. I sit around and talk to my Dad about The Good Life and Mash. Are my kids (when I get that far lol) going to sit around and talk to me about what was on TV when I was growing up (then again maybe I just inflict them to The Good Life and hope they appreciate it lol.)

And a shout out:

I often comment on Chris Evan’s Blog at Radio 2. There is a whole little community that’s formed all by itself and there are a lot of people who are good friends. Yesterday one of these friends passed away. A lovely lady who goes by the name of Mariella-Wolenski-Apparently wrote this little poem (to some it doesn’t make sense but it does to other and I wanted to share the love)

A woman full of laughter and fun,
And the biggest hugs for everyone,
Filled the blog with her fast wheels,
Sound advice and 5 inch heels.

Quick fag break then jump the queue,
First one in at the O2.
Bed by midnight, thats a giggle!
To meet your curfew, best get a wiggle.

Dishwasher loaded, Biggle’s tales,
Then off to bolthole down in Wales.
Yell your head off at Question Time,
Beez, you were a good friend of mine.

You will be missed by all on here,
And many of us will shed a tear,
But the pink fizz we’re stock piling,
And in your memory we’ll all Keep Smiling.

Sleep deep Beez.

So to the lovely Beez – we miss you bucketfuls. I didn’t get to meet you IRL but that’s not what it’s about is it – I know that you brought smiles to the faces of so many people via the blog and some in real life too (I just read a comment from Bond007 about a silly text you once sent!) We won’t forget you lovely!

Day 1110

Today is a binary number – it’s 14 in Base 10 and I’m not even going to try Base 12 it confused me! If I was clever, I would be telling you what 14 is in Octal numbers but thats your job.

The Kiwi was off work today 🙁 I went home at lunch with tissues and painkillers in hand. She’d been sleeping all morning but got up for some food a little while before I arrived home to get some soup.

I thought that I wasn’t going to see you till later on but then you appeared – you were being all serious and discussing work stuff.

In about half an hour there is a prayer meeting at church. It’s good because we will be meeting together and stuff but then again you know how I feel about prayer meetings.

Between work and the prayer meeting I downloaded The Good Life Series 1 and 2 – How is it that I’ve seen this first episode like 50 times and yet it’s still funny!

Day 1109

So today has been one of those busy days where we’ve not really seen each other. At the moment you’re working on a website and I’m watching The Reader out of one eye and writing this post – yes I am *that* multitalented!
Well until you got irritated about it – it was a little dodgy in places lol. Now I’m watching The Ugly Truth on my MacBook because the TV was too distracting.

Day 1108

This evening we did food shopping – hehe yes it was exciting enough to blog about but was stressful lol. It was quite funny when I tried to race you down the freezer aisle – except flip flops and the fact that I had to push the trolley put me at a bit of a disadvantage against you.

On the other hand during the protest we both curled up on the hammock in the garden, it was lovely and comfy. You’d been working really hard all day on clearing up the summerhouse and sorting out the stuff thats got accumulated in there. I now have a craft bookcase thingy wotsit.

Our fridge now looks lovely and full hehe.

Today was Sunday. Church was good, The Gibb was preaching about Jesus walking on the Water. It was okay but I got distracted lol.

After Church we went to our friends for lunch which was lovely because we had home made lasagne which I love. Unfortunately after church my head had started to hurt and by the time we were through dinner I felt really rubbish.

I missed the rehearsal and went home to sleep while you had your hair cut by Mr W (he’s so multitalented its hilarious!)

Minus about an hour in the middle I slept right the way through.

Day 1106

When I woke up this morning you’d already headed out to a meeting that had been booked. Then a little while later you reappeared – I didn’t really do anything all morning except from read and hang out in my pajamas.

You were going out again at lunch time and told me that the garden furniture was going to arrive while you were out. so I muchos excitement as the Fairy and Mini Fairy were coming to visit for the afternoon.

The Furniture arrived and I started working on it I had got two chairs out of the box and was headed towards assembling the table when the Fairy and Mini Fairy arrived, we all mucked in together – even the Mini Fairy helped!

Day 1105

Today was really busy at work today. Chatty Ali and The Big Cheese were on a mission to try and get lots of bits and pieces done before they head off to Rochester at the crack of dawn on Sunday.

Aeroplane!

It was a little irritating because I was trying to do all my own bits as well as being handed lots of other bits and pieces to get done but I totally get that they needed to get it done and sorted.

Next week I’m in charge of printing invoices – it’s a little scary! It’s more responsibility that a normal week eek!

The One With The Splat Nav!

Last Year at the 140 Conf in London I met a lovely girlie called Leila – I’m not sure what made us stop and talk to each other but it happened lol.

Day 1104

Normally today would have been band practice but it was cancelled for our band as Mr W is playing in the other band and our pianist couldn’t make the rehearsal. Instead I was going to go to the cinema but I came home first – had a bit of a surprise as you were here at home when I thought you were going to be out.

You’d been out with Alex at the British Museum so told me lots of facts about the Bible and The Magna Carta

Day 1103

And another day where I didn’t really see you lol.

You left while I was still coming to because you had a 9am meeting (I had been adding bits to the Calendar so I knew you were busy lol)

I went to the Key Shop at lunchtime – the car key is £65 – thats quite a lot for a key but I asked the man in the shop and he said it was because of the chip in side the car key and things like that.

Ideally we need a second key but at that price we need to *really* need it lol.

This evening you had house group and I had band practice. I got some sad news on the way to band practice, my friend’s Dad from Woodside lost his battle with cancer 🙁 he past away last week. All the more reason to sign up and do Race For Life again.

The One With The Bubbles

This afternoon while I was at work I had an email appear in my inbox on my phone, I checked the email and it was a comment from Katie on my post about the funky necklace that MissGeeky had on her blog post.

It said….

So I went to have a look on Etsy like she suggested and look what I found…

And the first is from Hannah Stockham who is based here in the UK.

(The Morose Bee also blogs here)

I love them both but i think I prefer the top one out of these two 🙂

Day 1102

Today is Tuesday.

We were both busy so we didn’t really see each other – when I got up for work you were still dozing – you did say goodbye but you were half asleep lol.

This evening you had a meeting and I went to see Mrs W. It was lovely to hang out with her and just chat about anything that came to mind. We chatted lots about Paris and how cool it was. She asked where was next on the list – I said that I didn’t know lol.

Where do you fancy?

Day 1101

Hehe today is a Binary Number – You’d be the one to tell me what it is in Base 10 but I don’t know – I’m not that clever lol.

This evening I went to the cinema with Serena – we also had pizza and a good chat – we put a date in our diary to organise a girlie night out with Laura – which was easier said that done as Laura seems to be really busy. (Either that or me and Serena are boring and have no social life lol)

You hung out at home and worked on various bits and pieces, how was your evening?

The One With Beatboxing

I’m not sure whether I posted this before.

A few weeks ago when we were on worship, the lady leading wanted to do Thine Be The Glory, we did a few times and she turned round and said that we weren’t really connecting with it. This started out as a joke but then we ended up doing it Sunday morning at church.

This entry was posted in Uncategorised.

Day 1100

Today is Sunday so we had church this morning.

I was on band so was up the front for the first half of the service, you were sat in the normal spot playing with Nat.

The Gibb preached today on the Feeding of the Five Thousand (unfortunately I didn’t get anything new from it :()

After church you were charging around doing various bits of youth work, we organised to host Aftershock sometime in July and maybe to have a youth group party in our garden at the end of term – I love the idea we just need to get our BBQ from church and pray for no rain! hehe.

At the moment you are still at 24/7 with the young people from church, I’m hanging out with The Kiwi and Bex B, we’ve been playing Singstar which is quite funny.

The One With The French

Since I was at lower school I’ve been learning French in some description. My Dad tried to teach me some but because I didn’t really have the space to practice it, it kinda fell on deaf ears as such. Then I got to Middle School and we were taught French, I got to Upper School and had a fab teacher but part way through the year she went on maternity leave and our temporary teacher wasn’t very good, he couldn’t really control the class and that meant then he spend the whole lesson trying to get the naughty ones to be quiet while the rest of us who wanted to learn sat there doing nothing (or doing homework for other lessons).

Since coming back from Paris on Sunday I’ve been trying to read French blogs. I found one called Lili Est Folle and that’s kinda where I started with reading blogs. I went on the website for Le Figaro and started reading the British news in French. That way I had some idea of what was going on to start with lol.

So when GCSE choices came up I decided to drop French and carry on with Italian – I preferred Italian at the time. I could speak more of it and when it came to it I could recall more of it.

But now in my job there is more chance me needing to speak French, I occasionally type parts of emails to the Italian distributor in Italian because I can but it’s usually just asking then how they are and what the weather is like lol.

Day 1099

We had a really lazy day and started the day at about midday lol.

Sleep is good! lol

We got up and went to the supermarket – we placed an order for a shed cubby hole thing to go in the garden for the lawn mower and gardening bits so that they don’t mess up the Summer House.

We also looked at getting some garden furniture – which is very nice. I think it’s this one but I couldn’t remember lol. We had a long discussion about which parasol we wanted to go with the table and then which base we wanted to go with the parasol and table.

After that we came home to hang out for a little while, yesterday was Embedded, you’d come up with an idea using red food colouring to emphasis your point – it meant that your hands and the wooden chopping board are completely stained with red food colouring – looks like a whole lot of blood. Interesting!

The One With My Grandad

Yesterday That Boy was showing my Grandad how to update a website or something like that. Anyhoo, that involved That Boy showing my Grandad my blog lol. From what I heard from Grandad this afternoon he’d been reading and looked at my pictures from Paris.

So this is just a short post to say Hello (in case Grandad comes back to read some more) and to tell you lot to behave lol.

The One With The Childhood Memories

The theme of todays New Friend Friday is

Favourite Childhood Memory

I have so many lol. I think these are my favourites.
I was about 11 or 12 and we had a whole bunch of snow – which was kinda rare for our area, me and my brother, and our friends from over the road starting making snowmen and having a snowball fight in the street – then the kids from next door came out to join in too – there was 6 of us creating a bit of havoc in the street lol. We then had kind of run out of snow so we started on each others gardens lol. First my parents, then the garden across the street and then the next door – we were so exhausted after that lol.

My Cousin Tubi (That’s too-bee like Hamlet (To be or not to be) rather than Tubby) was born when I was 8 and I remember sitting in this hospital chair holding this tiny baby, she’s now 16 and sitting her GCSE’s. I feel kinda old! That tiny baby is now a teenage girl!

When we were younger me and The Stig went to Hills Lower School, next door to this was Hazeldene Lower, where two of our cousins went. Our Grandparents’ house backed onto the school field. I’ve been told that when I was in the Early Years Unit (which is like Kindergarten) I’d worked out which section of fence was for my Grandparents house, and at break time was told off for standing next to the fence talking to “the nice man” – well the nice man was my Grandad lol.

The other running joke was how Grandma would threaten about putting a gate in the back fence so that we could just nip through rather than walking all the way round to her house.

When I 10 I went to a bible camp with my parents and my brother. At the end of one of the kids meetings I decided that I wanted Jesus to be my best friend and I wanted to live my life for his way (or at least try to lol). I didn’t realise quite how exciting it was for my family I told my Mum and Dad and they were excited and told my grandparents too who were at the bible camp as well. It’s only really now that I realise just how excited they were and why they were so excited, when I see the young people at church becoming Christians.

I can probably think of a whole bunch more but these are the only few that specifically spring to mind.

Did you know when you have a song stuck in your head it’s called an Ohrwurm, well that’s the German phrase for it, the English version is Earworm which sounds kinda gross lol. Then again Tune Wedgy just made me laugh lol. (I’ve had “Hey Kristina” by ALL CAPS stuck in my head now for about two hours – I’ve got their album Bm/E in the car atm)

Also if you came here cos of New Friend Friday then….
Hello and Welcome

The Girl Creative

The One With Cookies (and Friday5)

(Image links to Source)

I had a read of Becca’s Blog and she’s posted a Meme called Friday 5 – each Friday 5 questions get posted on a theme and then lots of different people from all over the interweb answer the questions and post their link on the start page. So you can join in here.

1. What is absolutely the best cookie you’ve ever had?

What a question lol. I love the ones from my local supermarket, but my Mum, my friend Mrs Mow Mow and my Friend Bex make the best cookies – yes it’s a hard life lol..

2. What is a cookie you really don’t care for?

Random flavours like Rum and Raisin and things like that – sometimes you just shouldn’t mess with a good thing lol

3. What are some other cookies you are rather fond of?

Oreos – are they cookies? You see here in the UK they would be a biscuit I think whereas a cookie is bigger lol. I think I need this discussion with someone like Rickie who can decipher american-ism vs english-ism.

4. Grocery-store cookies are, of course, never as good as anything that comes out of someone’s kitchen, but what’s a packaged cookie that’s still pretty good?

In our local supermarket they do some really nice chocolate chip ones through the in-store bakery but you have to time it right. You buy them in a packet of 4 or 5 which means that it’s not too much to share with someone and have two each lol. If you leave them to the next day they have started going crunchy rather than squishy.

5. In general, do you think cookies should be chewy and gooey, or should they be crispy and crunchy?

As above, I prefer doughy cookies to be chewy and gooey, crunchy kinda only works if you are dunkin’ in your tea, coffee or hot chocolate.

Day 1098

Yesterday you came home with our new car. Today it gets insured and I get to drive it. Yay!

Okay so that sentence doesn’t show how excited I was lol. We got back home and while I waited for you and Vicky to park I kept dancing in the street – I was excited and kinda relieved that I didn’t have to worry about breaking down – I just had to get the insurance sorted and then could look into posting the car online to sell it.

I wanted to phone the car insurance people straight away but I came and asked you first – I was all prepared that you would say no but you said yes that I could phone them and get it changed. I got it sorted and then set out for work – I was going to be early so took a really diverted route to work.
When I got to work I went up the end where it was really empty and practiced a reverse bay park – for reference I can do them but pulling in nose first will do for now while I still get the hang of it lol.

Day 1097

Yesterday we celebrated 3 years of marriage and something came to me today while I was at work – I love writing about our adventures and things like that but I wish I wrote to you more – I tend to write letters when I’m upset or irritated but I rarely write just to say Hi or something. So this is what this is all about lol. Technically this is the first post but I am going to work backwards as well so that there are days between 1 and 1097 lol. It’s going to be a little challenging but I like challenges – at least sometimes I do lol.

So today is day 1097 or as I was told on the website I looked at 3 years and 1 day.

Today is a normal day for me, going to work and coming home, you’ve got the adventure today as you’re going to look at a new-to-us car with your Dad. I’m kinda excited because you come back with it today but also I think that the guy at the other end might want to wait a few days then let us have it. Today would be more helpful rather than another road trip to Leicestershire but we can sort that out if we need to do it. For now I have things to do so I’m off ttfn.

Day 1096 (May 12th)

I’m working my way backwards now from that first post.

At Lunchtime the car broke down and wouldn’t start. I phoned you in a bit of a flap, you were really understand even though I was stressed and a bit upset. I managed to get the car to start, I got back to work and after speaking to my Manager (he was going to come and rescue me!) I called you. I guess a mixture of relieve and stress again but I burst into tears while I was on the phone to you, again you were understanding even when I started being mean and blaming you for the car being broken – it wasn’t your fault and wasn’t anything you could fix from there but I was annoyed and was mean. 🙁

I went back to work and got with stuff – I didn’t really want to be there – I wanted to come and apologise for being a meany but I couldn’t.

After work I came to church to meet you before going out for tea – you were winding up the young people before sending them home. You had set them like a time trial to see how fast they could tidy up (You mentioned something about how I was going to be there at 6:30 and you needed to be ready to go lol)

We went out for dinner at Harvester. You nearly always comment about how it’s a bit cookie cutter in that it fits with the brand etc but this time you didn’t lol. We sat and read the chapter of S.H.A.P.E that we were going to be discussing at house group. I then came up with the idea of going to the cinema or home to watch a DVD. You then said about how you had a to-do list as long as a small country, I wasn’t really sure what I could help with but I offered to do what I could so in a compromise of my plan and your to-do list, you walked home while I went to church to get your bits and then when I got home we watched Planet Earth for about an half an hour then set about working on the to do list.

The One With The Trip to Paris (Part 4)

After going to the Grand Palais, That Boy spotted some statues that he wanted to go have a look at. The statues were on Pont Alexandre III. From this bridge you can see the Eiffel Tower clearly in one direction and the Lourve in the other direction (At least I think you can see it – we were stood the Eiffel Tower side and didn’t cross over lol). We stood here for a little while and took silly pictures – including That Boy trying to “lean” on the Eiffel Tower, he then took one of me hanging off a lamppost lol.

I had a look at the map on That Boy’s phone and realised that we were quite close to Rue De L’Universitie, which is where Julia Child lived when she was in Paris. i had been reading this article from the LA Times before we left and unfortunately I had remember the house number wrong so we went looking for Number 103 when we should have been looking for 81 (Her house in Cambridge, Massachusetts was number 103 Irving Street.).

That Boy didn’t mind because we got to see a little bit more of Paris. After a discussion we decided that we would go to the Sacre Coeur in Montmartre. (Well that would be if I could make it up the stairs/it also depended on the cost of the funicular railway that runs alongside the main stairs).

Having looked at the map it made more sense to go back to the hotel and get our belongings before heading off for more adventures including going to Montmartre – as it’s kind of on the way back to Gare du Nord.

So first up after getting our bits was La Defense and the Grand Arche.

La Grande Defense, Paris

It was amazing – I’ve seen it on TV and stuff but that didn’t quite prepare me for how big it is in real life! Ally commented on my other post and said how La Defense is like Canary Wharf in London – I most definitely agree on that one. It was Sunday after and there were at least 2 or 3 guys who were in smart suits who got off the Metro as if they were heading to work!

We went to wander round the CNIT Building. CNIT is the Center of New Industries and Technologies – basically it’s a massive exhibition centre like Earls Court or the NEC along with lots of offices and shops – so a bit of everything piled in to this space.

In the building there was a shop called FNAC, I got very excited because there was a game shop that had a huge selection of Manga comics and books and also several shelves of Anime/Manga films.

Manga Comic Book Store at La Grand Defense Paris

While we were in the store I picked up a leaflet about Japan Expo – it would be awesome to go back to France for it but I don’t have the money or the holiday time to spare lol.

We then got the Metro from La Defense to Montmartre so that we could go to the Sacre Coeur, it was only when we got to the bottom of the hill that I realised how crazy it was going to be.

Oh dear that is a lot of steps! I did about two sections and was shattered. I walked into one of the side roads so that I was out of the main thoroughfare. For years I’ve wanted to go to The Sacre Coeur and never had the opportunity – now it’s practically in front of me and my stupid asthma/chest infection/other is holding me back (and the fact that the Funicular cost extra money – however now I’ve just looked at the website and our rail card actually included the Montmartrobus and the Funicular Railway!!! That Boy is going to get a poke!)

Anyhoo so we make it up to the top by taking a bit of a diverted route – it was probably a whole bunch longer but by going the route we did it wasn’t so stressful. Because we went the diverted route I was able to find two very funky shops. One is called Pylones and the other is called La Chaise Longue – both of which would have fitted right in the shops around Covent Garden in London. (They reminded me a lot of Octopus).

After Montmartre it was time to head back to Gare Du Nord. We got to Abbesses and the Metro arrived. That Boy was in front of me and managed to get on the train, there wasn’t space so I tried the next door along but again there wasn’t any space. By which point the alarm that the doors were going close was sounding. I went back to the door that, That Boy was stood next to and tried to get his attention. I knocked on the window and started waving my arms, he had spotted me and made some sign that implied he understood. I then took a seat and waited the four minutes for the next train (As my Dad says – just wait another train will come in a few minutes).

Abbesses Metro Station, Paris

I took this picture while I waited, then I got my iPod out and listened to Rufus Wainwright singing “La Complainte de la Butte” (Some how it seemed appropriate seeing as it’s about Montmartre).

I got onto the next train and made it back to La Chapelle, and there was That Boy waiting on the platform for me. At first he looked a little worried, he later said that he wasn’t sure if I knew which stop I was supposed to get off at and whether I would have been able to get on the next train lol.

I sat in Gare Du Nord near the check in desk while That Boy went to get some food. He went at about 10 to 6 while we waited for check in to start. At about 20 past he still wasn’t back and I was beginning to get a little worried – I had his passport and ticket so I couldn’t get on the train without him but also I didn’t want to miss the train in case we couldn’t get rescheduled etc.

Anyhoo I got my phone out and reassembled it. I had to take the battery out because it kept switching itself on by mistake – thankfully after the first time it did it, I set it to not connect to a mobile network so if it switched on it just drained the power rather than rocketing my phone bill lol. Anyhoo, I match the tickets with the passports and put them in my bag so they are within reach and I reassemble my phone and as I do it, That Boy comes running up the stairs with Maccy D’s in his hand lol. I was a little fed up of cheese sandwiches with no margarine lol.

We went through check in and the French Policeman put the Maccy D’s through the X-ray scanner as well – we then pulled up a patch of floor and ate our food.

We then got on the train to come home. That was Paris done.

I am sure I’ve missed some bits so I might be back with edits or funny stories. But for now I leave you with Rufus.

The One With The Trip to Paris (Part 3)

I’m back! The lovely Ally commented about how I should visit La Defense if I go back to Paris, hehe Ally, this is the part for you (or it might be the next one depending on how long it takes me to get to that bit of the story!)

So after the Louvre, we went back to the hotel to get changed before going to dinner. We had dinner at a Restaurant called “Boeuf sur le Toit” which I understand to mean Beef on the Roof – or something like that! The meal was lovely but they were out of the chicken dish for the main meal, so it was a choice between beef or fish – neither of which I’m particularly keen on. Thankfully my Caesar Salad and Chocolate Pudding balanced out what I didn’t eat for my mains lol. (I did have to send my mains back – I wasn’t trying to be picky but I’d asked for well done and it was still v. Pink in the middle)

Anyhoo after dinner, we went to find a supermarket so that we could get bits for lunch for the next day. We wandered along the Champs-Élysées and I’d spotted the Monoprix but only saw clothes we wandered along a bit further and ended up at the ends with no shops so we about-faced and wandered back. I was a bit fed up cos I was shattered so I went to a newspaper stand and asked the guy there where the supermarket was. He explained that Monoprix was behind us and that it did clothes and food lol. (By this point he’d realised that I was an English tourist trying to do my best impression of someone who speaks French and answered my French question in English!)

We grabbed some bits in Monoprix and walked back to the hotel. From a few doors along we could see the top floors of the Eiffel Tower so we stopped and watched the lights for a few minutes but it was getting cold and it had started raining again so we headed inside.

Believe it or not, I was asleep shortly after 10pm I was that tired! I’m serious that’s early for me! Something must have been up for me to be that tired lol!!

Sunday

So to have a lay in on a Sunday never normally happens and how I managed to sleep for like 12 hours is a miracle. What’s more of a miracle is that I slept through the church bells that were two doors down from the hotel lol.

We got up and headed off for more of an adventure – first up – Breakfast! We looked at breakfast in the hotel but €12 each was a little bit much for breakfast so we went off for a wander. We had seen the Haagen Dazs shop the night before thought we have a look elsewhere first. Well, we didn’t really find anything and so we had a look in the HD Shop. It was breakfast so we couldn’t really have ice cream for breakfast (if it had been in a crepe I might have made an exception lol.

Haagen Daz, Champs Elysee, Paris

Thankfully Haagen Daz does croissants and muffins. So I grabbed a croissant and That Boy had a Raspberry and White Chocolate Muffin and a Caffe Latte for breakfast – we sat outside and watched the world go by for a bit lol.

Following breakfast, we went to the Grand Palais. The Grand Palais is basically a massive conservatory lol. It was built for the Paris Exhibition of 1900 (about 50ish years after The Crystal Palace was built in Hyde Park for the Great Exhibition in London).

Grand Palais, Paris
Unfortunately, we couldn’t get in to have a proper look but we could see through a few of the windows from one of the foyers so that was cool. I loved this stair case – it looks like something out of a Disney Film lol.

And once again bed time has crept up on me and I need to leave it there – so Part 4 might be here tomorrow (thats when I get to La Defense.

The One With The Trip to Paris (Part 2)

Part One was here.

After booking in at the hotel we abandoned our stuff and headed off for a wander. We started with the main place I wanted to visit. This thing:

I think it was one of those things – I would know that I’d been to Paris when I stood under the Eiffel Tower. One day I will make it to the top but at the moment there are alot of maintenance works going on and only one leg is open for trips. We stood and watched some street dancers who were really good, That Boy was very complimentary of their performance style – whereas I just stood and watched – Also took some video which is on my Flickr photostream.

Not sure what inspired the next one but I think I just asked That Boy where it was and he looked it up on a special app he’d downloaded and that was that we wandered around to find the replica of the Statue of Liberty. That Boy went to New York when he was younger so he’d seen the real statue. The replica sits on Île des Cygnes (Swan Island). Unfortunately because the Island was closed for maintenance, we weren’t able to get at the closest end – we started walking up towards the other end but we couldn’t get there. There was a distinct lack of signage and things like that to direct you to the statue – maybe it’s overshadowed by the tourist bits around it lol.

From here we wandered to Champs des Mars and caught the metro to St Michel La Notre Dame. Having seen the Notre Dame de Strasbourg I wasn’t too excited about it tbh lol. Again it was really busy – the sun was out and so there were lots of tourists, there was also a fair or something like that so there were extra people there.

Arc du Triomphe

We then caught the metro and headed to the Louvre, as we got out of the station we decided we were going to grab a drink. That Boy had seen a Maccy D’s sign in the metro so while I stood at the exit taking pictures of the Museum, That Boy nipped back down the stairs to take a look at the location, we then headed to Maccy D’s and grabbed a drink. We then wandered up the street and sat in the gardens outside the Lourve, there were lots of young people hanging out. There was a group of scouts running past and some of the young people were shouting “Allee Allee” (Which I think is Go Go – I think there was also something resembling faster faster lol)

After a little while we walked closer to the Grande Pyramidee so that I could take photos. We then headed back to the hotel to get changed for dinner.

I would love to carry on writing about the trip but I really need to go to bed now as I have work tomorrow – I’m not sure whether I will be staying or whether I’ll be sent home again (My breathing still isn’t great and I am still coughing but after the weekend I at least need to try).

Day: 42
Goals to go: 88
Started/In Progress: 17
Completed: 13

The One With The Trip to Paris (Part 1)

I started writing this post on my phone yesterday then started editing this morning but got distracted lol. This is Part One that takes us up to booking in to the hotel.

So the morning started just before 6 – my alarm had been set for around 5:45am – it was so easy to roll over and doze off again. The doorbell rang and I realised that it was 6:15 ish. We were supposed to be on a train from Bedford to London at about 6:45am. Oh well – I thought there was enough time but That Boy was getting up tight and irritated lol.

We made it in time and got on the train for London – nice and simple. We got to St Pancras and we had time to spare before our Eurostar train was due to depart for Paris. I went into one of the stationary stores to grab a Moleskine Journal (You know the city guide one – I see them everytime I go to London but never get one because of the price tag – I decided it was a “Holiday Treat” lol).

That Boy had made a deal about me updating my iPod, apparently I wasn’t going to need it, well we got to the actual tunnel and he was asleep. I spent the journey reading, listening to music and writing.

Our Arrival at Paris Gare du Nord

Paris Gare du Nord

We arrived at Gare Du Nord around Midday. Chris wanted to find the Metro station first but I said we should get tickets first. We took Chris’s plan first and headed for Metro Line 2. We got about half along the station and there was a barrier. So we had to head back to the Eurostar bit and then follow the signs to the ticket desk to be able to fit our Metro pass.

We stood in the queue and joked about whether I would ask in French or not. Well, I did – and I didn’t mix in English words too.

Me: “Bonjour, je voudrais deux billets Paris Visite”
Ticket Guy: “Oui”
Me: “Pour deux jours, s’I’ll vous plait”
Ticket Guy: “Oui” clicks buttons and bits “vingt neuf, quarante”
*exchange of money and tickets*

We move away from the counter and That Boy comments. It was positive but I can’t remember it properly (Something along the lines of “For someone who doesn’t speak French, you just did really well!)

Yeah okay haha so funny. Actually it wasn’t a joke he was serious.

La Chapelle, Ligne 2 Paris

So on our second attempt we headed for the Metro again.
We had to catch the Line 2 (they have numbers rather than names like the Underground) towards Porte Dauphine. We were getting off at Charles De Gaulle Etoile station. Little did we know till we exited the metro that we’d get this sight.

The Arc du Triomphe, Paris

Time to Find the Hotel

We knew the hotel was close but we didn’t realise how close – we walked down to the Arc de Triomphe and then turned off into Avenue Marceau. Our hotel was around half way along the street. We had a first floor room with a large window in the room (we stood with the windows open looking up and down the street.

Day 1092

At the crack of dawn this morning my Mum came to get us to take us to the train station so that we could get the train to London then catch the Eurostar to Paris.

I would write more but it’s technically 4 past midnight on the 19th May so I really need to sleep lol.

Love you 🙂

Hopefully with the wonders of the internet, this post will appear tomorrow morning while I am on the Eurostar going to Paris.

So I get that seeing as I was off ill I can’t really go away for the weekend, but it’s non-transferable and I was willing to go in today if I was needed (thinking about it I would have stayed all day yesterday except my managers both told me to go home)

We’re going to Paris on Eurostar – oh yeah I already said that lol. I’m just a little bit excited. I’ve posted a picture of the Eiffel Tower just in case we don’t make it there lol. We get the morning train tomorrow to Paris and arrive around lunch – we then get back an early evening train on Sunday evening – so we get about a day and a bit which is an awesome amount of time in Paris (if only it could be longer lol)

Well bring it on and hopefully there will be pictures 😀

The One With The Books

So I found a link on Twitter to the blog of Hana. She had posted this survey today so I decided to join in. (Add you link to the board here)

1.  My favorite book growing up was:

I loved Enid Blyton books – I didn’t have a specific one that was my favourite but I read loads when I was young. My Dad would encourage me and my brother by taking us to the library every (or nearly every) Saturday morning, by the time I was in Year 4 I was trying to read Shakespeare (half of the time I didn’t get it but it was worth the attempt, right?).

2.  The funniest book I’ve ever read was:

I’ve read so many books I can’t remember the funniest but the one I’m reading at the moment had me laughing (Chocolate Wishes by Trisha Ashley) yesterday – which wasn’t good because then I collapsed in a fit of coughs lol.

3.  The one book that has truly changed my life is:

Well excluding the bible which is like the major influence on my life lol. I wouldn’t say I’ve read any life changing on it’s own but I read “For Such a Time as This by Lisa Ryan. It’s about being modern day Esthers and being set apart.

For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father’s family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to royal position for such a time as this?”

Esther 14:4

4.  If you’re looking for a real “tear jerker” you should probably read:

The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks – if it’s half as sad as the film then I will need the tissues. I watched The Notebook once and I’ve never watched it since because I know that it’ll make me cry.

5.  If I could meet any author living or dead I would want to meet:

Agatha Christie or Kathy Reichs I don’t keep up with authors. I have a running book list of what I want to read and those titles come from blogs or websites that happen to mention they’re good. I’m more intrigued by what genre they are rather than who is the author.

6.  The next book on my “to read” list is:

Well I’m in the process of reading Chocolate Wishes by Trisha Ashley. Following that there is the other book that That Boy bought me for my birthday, I think I then have some Kathy Reichs books to work my way through.

7.  If I was snowed into  remote cabin in the woods and could only choose three books to bring with me I’d bring:

The Bible should keep me occupied for a little while (According to Wikipedia there is 31102 verses in the King James Version).
After that I guess I’d pick the first three on my to be read and work on those lol.

Hello and Welcome

The Girl Creative

The One With The General Election

I said before that I wasn’t a fan of politics but I think due the change that could happen and the fact that my Goddaughters Grandfather is a candidate for his constituency I thought it was about time that I took some interest. (And also that I’ve been watching The West Wing – which although is US politics, it’s interested me more to look into UK Politics after all I live here lol.)

Bedford has always been a Labour town with Conservative round the edges (I just had a quick politics lesson before making that statement lol.)

I’ve been watching the results on and off all morning seeing as I’ve been off work ill. I just did the maths and we have a hung parliament – even if the Conservatives can win all the remaining constituencies they don’t have enough to reach the 326 needed for a majority win.

We discussed what I wanted and this was her creation – it’s amazing!!! I asked Becca for a plain sponge with some icing on it – it was Wednesday that we were talking about it and I wanted to pick it up Friday/Saturday (I had ran out of of week before I realised it lol), I was prepared that my sponge would literally be a basic Victoria Sponge with white icing but this is just awesome. It’s 3 layers of plain sponge with jam in the middle – it’s then got coloured icing in funky shapes.

What is most interesting is that years ago I painted a picture for That Boy to hang in his office now I don’t remember ever showing Becca either painting but look how similar they are in design.

An Update (101 Things in 1001 Days)

Each blog post has a little run down at the end of it, with a list of things that I am keeping track of. Some posts do have it missing for one reason or another. I decided that I needed to write a post that summarised where I was upto. At least for my sanity even if it annoys all of you.

2. Read 100 books (5/100)

Okay so on this one I am up to book 5 – two of these are in progress whereas 3 are completed I’m not sure how that one works lol.

8. Write a short story (0/3500)

I haven’t started this one but having realised that my 54 page script for Script Frenzy is nearly 15k long, I’m beginning to think that my word count is a little short – I might have to come back to it.

11. Watch 100 films (13/100)

Now this one is going a whole bunch easier. Every film that I see goes on this list and it’s getting longer. Okay so that sounds really dramatic – actually I am up to 14 now as I just watched Adam.

29. Send some fun mail to 5 friends. (1/5)

I sent a letter to my Penpal in the USA but I’m not sure if it got there or not. Hopefully they will let me know.

31. Watch at least 50% of the IMDB top 250 (61/125)

I’m getting there – I realised that I’d seen more than I thought I had especially as two Studio Ghibli films that I rented are both on there – They are under their Japanese titles which put me off at first!

34. Read the bible from start to finish (1/66 – tick off by book)

At the moment I’m up to Chapter 5 of Exodus – which in a way isn’t very far.

44. Complete Super Mario Wii
45. Fill a notebook with arty bits and pieces
46. Complete Mario and Sonic at the Winter Olympic Games

I haven’t played Nintendo Wii in about two weeks. I would have played Wii Fit a bit more but with my Asthma playing up, I’ve been waiting for it to calm down before doing anything crazy lol.

48. Watch 26 movies I’ve never seen starting with each letter of the Alphabet (9/26)

This is getting kinda hard – I’ve watched lots of new films but they start with the same letter lol.

50. Try 5 new foods (3/5)

So I haven’t done any more on this – or at least I’ve probably not taken note of it lol.

55. Read my bible 3 times a week (5/429)

This one is a bit of a strange one as I am sure that I have been reading it multiple times a week but not been recording it. Thats no good lol. I know that in this last week it’s been maybe 4 or 5 times rather than 3 so can I still add them?

62. Take vitamins and Echinacea each day (9/1001)

I went and read the instructions with the Echinacea and it says to take for 3 ish weeks and then take a break. So my idea of taking one a day doesn’t really work – and as I’ve been diagnosed with Asthma I have to remember to take my inhaler every day. So from now on it’s going to be  “62. Take vitamins and inhaler each day (/1001)” so I think that equals that I’ve managed to take them all in some combination each day.

70. Watch The West Wing (35/156 Episodes)

So I was bought The West Wing for my birthday last week. I started watching Season 1 but when we tidied up for the birthday party on Saturday it went walk abouts – I think it was packed away somewhere. So I moved onto season 2 – I’ve seen the whole of Season 1 and 2 semi recently anyway so it kinda counts?! I’m up to Episode 13 of Season 2 – this would work out at 35 episodes.

76. Schedule and complete 4 No Tech Day days a year (1 of which is the official day) (1/4)

So I’ve done the first one, I need to set dates for my next No Tech Days but I need to find weekends when I can cut out my computer/phone/tv use.

82. Host 5 swaps on Swap-Bot (1/5)

On this one I’m half way through the first of these swaps.

87. Keep a journal of my 101 and what I do for each.
98. Hug CJ once a day (at least!) (23/1001)

These two are both running ones that change daily over the period of 1001 days.

The One With The Story

Okay so it’s cheesy and tends to be attached to one of those chain messages but it’s too adorable.

I don’t want to be with you forever. I NEED to be with you forever.
And I wouldn’t cry if you walked away…I’d die…

The One With Script Frenzy

So I didn’t manage to complete the page count – I though 100 pages of script would be so easier – how wrong was i?!

It was easy to start with and I thought 3.3 pages a day would be a breeze – well it would be a breeze if I didn’t get cocky – and also if life handed invaded and taken over.

Then again I have found that the camping chairs that we were given by That Boy’s Auntie last weekend are ridiculously comfy – I am sat in the middle of the kitchen with my feet up on a dining room chair. My drink is on the floor and my phone is on the table.

So I made it to 54 pages but my last update was too late 🙁

Therefore technically I got to 53 pages which is actually really good.

Or 14.337 words if you are a geek like me.

I’m thinking if I start adapting it for a story now then by the end of November I should be somewhere near the 50k target for NaNoWriMo. Also if I plan properly and write in sequential order rather than writing the bits I feel like writing I might find it better.

Day: 25
Goals to go: 95
Started/In Progress: 17
Completed: 6
Pages for Script Frenzy: 53 pages – it finished

The One With The Signature

For a little while I’ve been wanting a nice signature to put on the end of my posts but I wasn’t sure how to go about it – whether I draw something and scan it in or I cheat and just do something in Paint or Word.

I found a website called My Live Signature and came up with these ones – I think these are my favourites so far but I’m not sure what do you think.

I think so far that I like this one above the most because it looks like my handwriting a bit but then again I’m not so sure lol. Why is it complicated?!

The One With The Chocolate (and Love)

Having given up chocolate for Lent the first thing I wanted to do on Easter Sunday was to eat a Crème Egg and enjoy it.  So when I got an email a week before Easter offering to review chocolate by the Choclate and Love Company I was there replying straight away with no questions  (other than when I needed to review it by as it was still Lent at that point!)

My chocolate arrived and I pondered for a bit – I wanted to do a good job of it so I couldn’t just scoff the chocolate in one go, also because most of the bars were dark chocolate (which I normally steer clear of, I decided to ask my Mum to test the chocolate with me – after all we both LOVE chocolate!

I broke my bars in half and delivered the halves for my Mum and Dad to trial to their house. I popped round last week and the majority of the chocolate is still on their coffee table but they are working their way through it. My Mum said that the white chocolate with the summer berries on it was the only one that she hadn’t tried so far because of the look of it. It kinda put her off having all that fruit on one side rather than scattered through it (like Fruit and Nut is the example she gave lol)

The bars I received were

Filthy Rich

This dark chocolate is 71% cocoa and is *very* rich as the name implies! It did remind me very much of cooking chocolate that my Mum keeps in her pantry.

Crushed Diamonds

This chocolate is a “dark truffle chocolate” and has cocoa nibs within – it was very nice but I then spend the next little while picking bits of cocoa out of my teeth (yeah TMI!).

Orange Mantra

Both me and Mum kinda thought this might be like a Terry’s Dark Chocolate orange, but actually we were both kinda disappointed. We both found that in comparison to “The Coffee Affair” which had a very strong flavour the orange within this chocolate was very subtle and kinda sneaked up on you, just as you thought that the orange wasn’t going to show up for the party.

The Black Forest

The Black Forest Chocolate

So as you can see from the picture it doesn’t look that appetising – it was definitely one that you just have to taste and see what happens. I would suggest eating fruit side down that way you get through the fruit first and then get to the chocolate – it’s not one I would have personally picked on looks but it was chocolate (and it was white chocolate so therefore my favourite lol).

The Coffee Affair

On the opposite side to the Orange Mantra chocolate, as soon as I opened the packet I could smell the coffee – actually when I got the bars out of the padded envelope I could smell the coffee lol.

I didn’t really like the flavour of it – then again I did only start drinking coffee a few weeks ago. My Mum on the other hand said that she did like the flavour and would have like it to have been stronger (ok…..).

Overall Opinion

The packaging on the chocolate (except The Black Forest) is made of paper so can be thrown in to the recycling bin rather than the normal bin. At £2.90 for 100g they are a little on the expensive side for a normal chocolate ‘dose’, however they are organic and fair-trade based products so I would be more open to spending that kind of money. If I purchase Fairtrade chocolate from the supermarket it tends to be Divine Chocolate which is about £1.09 for 100g. (If I’m buying chocolate for a present I might purchase Green and Blacks which is around £1.90 for 100g. Therefore Chocolate and Love is a little bit more expensive that I would normally spend out for an everyday nibble of chocolate but if it was for a present or I was willing to spend a little more then it would be an okay price.

If you would like more of an opinion – let me know, or you can read one of these links below. There were various other reviews which can be read at the links below:

The One With Results

Hello one and all

I’m sorry for the delay, although there was wifi at the conference centre it hadn’t actually crossed my mind to take my MacBook with me.

With help from random.org I was able to find a winner (I tried blogging from my phone – I even tried my own version of a random generator which involved tearing up a newspaper and using the pocket on my bag to draw a name from the hat)

I decided now that I’m home I’d do a proper version.

So the winner is *drum roll*

Heather!!!!

Heather blogs at Simply Hmm which you can find here.

Heather – I will be in touch.

Everyone else – hopefully I will be able to host a giveaway somewhere down the road.

The One With Bullet Points

Today is a strange one.

AGAIN.

Okay so normally my post would be like

“Woe is me, life is troubled and I feel like pants” but apart from my lungs and sinuses not being on the same sheet as the rest of my body I am doing awesome lol.

  1. That Boy couldn’t find some bits that he needs for the youth event this evening so I went home and had a look, found them within ten minutes-ish and took them to him.
  2. I got three birthday cards today – one from That Boy’s Auntie K (She’s fab and lovely!) and two from people at work.
  3. Me and JD discussed the finer points of this evening and got that sorted she asked me did I understand in French and I responded in very broken German lol.(Yes this is what our lives have come to lol)
  4. My friend @Brandroidattack has completed college and will be able to move to Aussie to live there closer to his fiancé the fab @Rubyam – that made my Friday just go super spesh lol.

I am also working on a name change but I have no idea what to change it to – I thought about “The Rock Angel Diaries” but I’m mellowing and Rock Angel isn’t really me any more so I need some other suggestions – Twitter is being slow today…..

The One With 23

So today is Day 23 out of 1001,  I sat and updated my 1001 list to see how well I was doing – in my geeky moment I’m tempted to work out the total activities (because some of my things have extra parts to them) and see what percentage I am up to. I have the feeling that it will be quite low but I might start anyway.

This evening I spoke to That Boy’s Auntie – she’s lovely! She recently updated her phone contract and decided to go for an iPhone – she’s having a minor panic because she’s going on holiday in like 6 hours (ooh just had a moment – I do hope her plane is running normally)

The One With The Thinking

Week 3/52: “To teach is to learn twice”
Originally uploaded by ilovestrawberries (Carmi)

I’m not really sure why my brain keeps coming back to the same ideas but I’m sure there is a reason there. Every so often I start considering going back to uni/college and training to be a teacher.

About half way through I decided that I was going to graduate and then going to go straight into a PGCE ? I hadn’t decided what age I was going to teach but I knew my specialism would have to be drama. I started getting my experience together to do secondary education but having been back to my old upper school and to a few others, I decided it wasn’t for me. How was I going to control a class of students who 75% were taller than me!

So then I think what about doing Primary Education – I loved teaching the kids at church in that age range, why don’t I tried that. Well I went off did my experience and got my application in. I was feeling bit better about teaching primary but my heart still wasn’t in it. Kewey once said that because of the amount of work that there is involved in teaching if your heart isn’t in it, then it isn’t for you. I kinda wanted to know that with 100% of my being that was what I wanted to do.

Well I was offered a place on Primary Education but my specialism would be Italian (new curriculum meant that Modern Foreign Languages were being brought in at KS2 rather than KS3). I hadn’t spoken Italian properly for about 4 or 5 years – I could just about saying what my name and a few other bits and pieces but nothing to convince an interview panel that I could teach a class of 25-30 7 years olds the basics of Italian.

So why am I writing about this now? In all honesty I have no idea. I looked at applying for a new job at a company near my house – I would be a receptionist – but I would be literally 10 minutes walk from home so I could walk to work and go home for lunch. But I would have to take a pay cut. I keep dithering over whether to apply or not – I have the application sat in my email inbox. Do I want to leave where I work at the moment? Do I want to have that “new girl” status again? Why would I want to work for this other company?

I’m a little fed up of thinking “why don’t I do…..” and then my brain kicks in again, and I come up with a long list of reasons why I can’t do that thing. The bakery/coffee shop would be a great idea but I can’t cook as much as would need to be and could I afford to get it off the ground in the first place and employ a second person.

The One With The Excitement

So a week today I am officially 24!!

I have a little dilemma though I’m away on my actual birthday so do I open presents on Sunday before I leave, Wednesday when I get back or careful pack my clothes around my presents so I can take one/some/all with me?

People help!!

The One With The Erm

Okay so I am sure that I really ought to write something really productive but I’m sorry people I can’t be bothered lol.

I did however find this very funky picture on Flickr when I was looking for something else.

The One With Dot.Robot

So all this week while That Boy has been away I’ve been reading Dot.Robot by Jason Bradbury at any given opportunity – I nearly finished it last night but I decided I needed to sleep lol.

I finished it this morning and loved every second of it – I would write more of a proper review but any second now my Mum is going to pick me up to go to the venue for my G-dad’s Birthday party – I’m starting this morning by blowing up lots of balloons.

Here go my lungs lol.

The One at The Gadget Show

The next challenge was a roller coaster one, the idea being that the winner would be the one who was the calmest. They should a video of Ortis on a roller coaster and he kept screaming.

A bit later in the show there was an appearance from the Titan the Robot – this is the same robot we saw at Butlins. I still think it’s great but That Boy is convinced that it’s a person in a suit rather than an actual life size Robot.

The last challenge was on the idea of make your own tech, so Jason had made his own jet pack and Suzi had borrowed one. (Sorry this one did let the team down – they were attached to harnesses and a pulley system to pull them out over the audience and then take them back to the stage) It was quite fun though cheering on Suzi as loud as possible! Towards the end there was a performance by Feeding The Fish. They are “a company specialising in the creation and performance of top visual juggling shows”.

The performance was really clever – they were waving around what looked like colour changing fluorescent tubes (like you get in office lights) but when they started “chopping” the lights in half and quarters and then sticking them back together so they couldn’t be fluorescent tubes (as there is gas in the tube and things like that).

Apparently the lights are programmed and stuff like that to create the pretty patterns.

The final challenge involved three (or maybe four) people trying to pack a tent back into the case while being sprayed with water (it’s rain!) and standing in the path of a high powered fan (it’s wind!), it was quite funny as these people tried to get the tent back into the case (it was one of the pop up ones that had been used in a challenge on the show).
Literally as soon as the SuperTheatre bit finished people started moving towards the exits, we got up and moved out of our seats but then got stuck in the crush to get out lol (So much so that I got to the end of my row and was nearly pushed down the stairs lol) Anyhoo we made it down the stairs in one piece and headed back into the main arena. As we were queue for the door, Jason went past us in the opposite direction, he was kinda doing the conga.
On our way round we got stopped by one of the sales people on the NPower stand. That Boy asked a question about green power and where their power comes from. The sales lady was well and truly floored by his question. She went off and  looked for a leaflet and came back, explained that they didn’t have one but she’d grab her manager – oh he was so rude! I get that it was busy and we asked a strange question but he was so rude! He was really not a good example of Customer Service.

A little while later after we were wandering round there was a guy who had put my idea into practice lol. He had his twitter name printed on the back and the front of his shirt! What a genius idea lol.

Me and two of the twitter girlies had chatted about having an impromptu meet up while at the show seeing as we were all going to be in the same area of the country. I wasn’t able to meet up with @Rosevibe as she was on a mission to cram in as much as possible in one day lol. I did however get to meet @SuchAGoodGirl – I think I proved that there are really people on Twitter! @SuchAGoodGirl was super lovely – although I think both That Boy and her OH couldn’t keep up with us lol.

We walked past a stand that had statues and models made of recycled metal. There were two giant statues that were like 7 or 8 ft tall – my brother actually wanted the price of it – he threatened to put it in his room – I pointed out that it would go through the floor if he managed to get it to his bedroom in the first place lol. He then said about putting it in his garden but when I pointed out that a 6 inch statue was £30 ish, a 7/8ft statue was going to be in 4 figures lol.
I thought about getting him a smaller one for it but it was just so much money for something so small – if he had been for his birthday or something like that I might have got it for him.
At about 2ish That Boy decided that he needed a sit down. I was tired but I was just loving all the new things to look at. I decided that I would go and get a copy of Dot.Robot by Jason Bradbury and see how long the queue was. I timed it just about right to get there as the queue doubled in length while I was stood there – I even started reading the book in the queue lol.

While Jason signed the book I said how it was nice to meet him in real life instead of chatting via Twitter – I think he was a little freaked out lol. I got a hi-five which was awesome – I hadn’t realised that That Boy was trying to take my picture as I walked away from the signing desk.

One of the last stops of the day ended with us watching 3D TV on the Sony stand – it was interesting but I was really quite tired and had was mentally like blown away by all the good bits I’d seen.

I’d been tweeting nearly all day on and off, I’d been tagging and @-ing any people that I mentioned. At about 8ish I had looked back over some of my tweets and for about 10 minutes was convinced that I’d been spelling Suzi’s name wrong on my tweets. So I posted this tweet:

We went to a supermarket local to the NEC and got some tea – I had heard my phone go off twice in the car but was concentrating on driving. There two messages – one made me want to cry out of sadness and the other made me want to smile from ear to ear. I can’t tell you readers what the sad one was but I can tell you want the good one was. I got a text telling me that I had a DM on Twitter. I had a look and it was from Suzi Perry. It was short and sweet but it was lovely to get a message from her especially as her day was like 3 or 5 times more busier than mine – and it’s not like she could have down time or be in a bad mood because she’s on show when she’s walking round the show and things like that.I had the best time at the show this year, from something my Mum’s friend suggested – it’s worth going every other year rather than every year so that you have that development and things like that. I was shattered Friday morning so I’m glad that I’d taken both days off – I got up on Friday morning to return the car to the rental place. I came home and was too awake to go back to sleep again so I curled up on the sofa and for most of the day watched Chuck Season 1. I did do some productive bits but that was the main activity of the day was to sit in front of the TV and not do anything.

The One With A Giveaway

I enter alot of give-aways on different blogs but never seem to win (maybe it’s just not my turn yet!).

I decided a while back that I wanted to host a give away so I decided that rather than host it when I get to 1000 comments I would do it when I got to 900 – well we are in the ball park range of 900 comments and so here is official notice of my blog give away. I was going to give the prize to the 900th commentor then decided that due to RSS feeds and things like that peoeple might not read till next week so from the people who comment on this post I am then going to get That Boy or My Mum or something semi-independent of me to pull a name out of a hat. It’s also my birthday at the end of April so I am sharing the love lol.

Okay so thats why, but I hear you ask – what do I win?

Well I love Etsy, I have a couple of favourite shops but my like top favourite is Katie Blair Designs. I read Katie’s blog so often hear about new products. I even bought my best friend a notebook from Katie’s store for her Christmas present and she loved it!

So the prize is a Herb Journal from katie’s store and it looks like this:

Katie does it in a lovely red colour and a lovely green colour so I will ask her nicely to supply the colour of your choice out of those two.

So what do you need to do to enter:Anyone can enter, you can be anywhere in the World – all you have to do is one or more of the following:

  • RT this “@girltaristhan is hosting a Giveaway with help from @katieblair, take a look and enter here: http://wp.me/px7HT-Fm Plz RT” Then c0me back here and comment with a link to your tweet
  • Blog about it on your own site (again come back here with a link)
  • Follow my blog
  • Don’t do any of the above and just comment about how fab the notebook is (or other bits in Katie’s store – maybe there is something fab that I haven’t spotted)

Each of these will give you one entry – if you do multiple things then you get multiple entries (you can RT me every day if you like but thats one entry but lots of love will come from me to you! lol)

The giveaway closes on my day of birth which is the 27th April, I will then post the winner (and contact them for a postal address) and then sort with Katie about getting the journal out to you.

Now I’m in the UK and Katie is in the US so you have to remember about time zones and things like that but I will try and make sure it gets to you asap so that you can get using it!

Also visit Katie’s blog – It’s fab! You can find it here

The One With Two Cinema Trips

So how is it, for ages I can’t find anyone to go to the cinema with and then two friends ask me to go on the same night. Well luckily enough they both wanted to see two different films at two different times.

JD wanted to see Whip It! At 6:45 and Zoza wanted to see The Blind Side at 9pm. I worked out that I would have about twenty minutes between the showing and that gave me time to take JD home and get back to the cinema – I’ve not seen Zoza since before Easter and I know that was only like a week or two ago but thats a long time when you normally see someone twice a week lol.

So Whip It!, technically came out last year but took that long to get here from the USA, it’s Drew Barrymore’s directal debut (Which is exciting because I love her films). The story is based on the novel by Shauna Cross called Derby Girl. Ellen Page (Juno) plays Bliss Cavendar, she’s a teenager who joins a roller derby team much to her parents disappointment. Bliss is a misfit and really doesn’t fit in her small town. Her mum is one of those pushy Mum’s who want their daughter to be a starlet because they never made it kinda thing. There’s also romance in there as Bliss finds love with a musician.

Me and JD both loved the film and I am definitely getting it on DVD. I am sad but even crossed my mind about getting some roller skates – can you still buy roller skates rather than blades? I had a cool pair when I was young with bright yellow stars on a blue background they were second hand from my friend.

Anyhoo so I come out the cinema and nip to the loo. As I come out the loo I spot The murf stood with his friend. I decide that I am going to stay for the trip with Zoza, JD says its okay and she’ll walk to her mum’s house which is literally round the corner rather than me driving her home to come back to the cinema. So then I join the queue to get my ticket for The Blind Side, The Murf and his friend then walk past me to join Pastor Mow mow who is the queue about two or three people behind me (by which point I feel really embarrassed about going to the cinema twice in one evening lol)

The Blind Side is also a film adapted from a book. The book was written by Michael Lewis and was published in 2006. There are two story lines that run through the book but the film focuses specifically on that of Michael Oher, he played left defence for Ole Miss football team and currently plays right tackle for the Baltimore Ravens.

Michael has been in and out of foster care with different families for most of his life, each time he’s placed with a new family he runs away. One of his friend’s fathers, manages to enrol him in a christian school after the father convinces the coach that he is a natural athlete. The teachers are all convinced that he’s going to fail and that it won’t achieve anything. However until Michael can get his grades up he can’t play sport. One of his teachers notices that he still learns everything he just struggles to put it into words on paper, she makes him sit one of his tests but she asks him the questions and they discuss the answers – each of the teacher impliment this and his grades start to go up (I was proud of this because my brother was told that he’d never amount to anything and his teachers were convinced that he’d fail his GCSEs because of his dyspraxia)

Anyhoo I won’t tell you any more of the story because otherwise it’ll ruin it for you. I loved the story line and I felt proud of what Michael achieved. A friend told me that I might cry because it’s a sweet story but I didn’t hehe.

My favourite moment that you should look out for is when the kids are all in the playground and Michael goes and pushes two little girls on the swings – I love how they realise that he’s a gentle giant and that he won’t hurt them.

I loved both films and would throughly reccomend both – I think if I’d been with my Mum we’d have seen The Blind Side rather than Whip It! Lol.

The One With Cutting The Grass

Following church this morning I sat in the garden enjoying my hard work from yesterday and I wrote an email to That Boy as he’s away but can get his emails on his phone. I went out there about 1 pm ish and it was too warm to sit in the sunshine so I parked in the shade but then the sun went in and it went a bit cold.

This weekend I gained some presents – one was new and the other one was new to us.

The first was a compost bin. Yesterday when I was cutting the grass my Dad came round to have a look at the lawn mower as I was really having trouble with it. He asked me where I was going to put the grass cuttings – I hadn’t thought about that. I hadn’t even properly got started so it never crossed my mind about where I was going to actually put the cuttings once I was done! My Mum and Dad went to run some errands and about an hour later the house phone was ringing, I ran down the garden and grabbed the phone from the base in the kitchen. It was Mum telling me to answer the door and let them in lol.

My Dad was stood there with a flat pack compost bin for me to put in the garden. I’ve put it in the far back corner but I’m not sure whether it’ll live in the same place once That Boy gets home. My Dad said about putting up some trellis in front of it so that it disguises what is back there. I think we might have to trim the bush thats at the bottom of the garden so we can get it further in the corner. Because it’s bottomless we’ll have to move some of the pebbles and slabs that are at the bottom of the garden. The other options is to put it next to the summerhouse but I’m worried that the compost fumes etc will do funny stuff to the wood on it.

The Second is the hammock that That Boy bought my Mum and Dad as a thank you present a few years okay, they were tidying up the garden and decided that it wasn’t really being used in their garden and it was taking up some space and asked did we want it. I said “Yep okay” and figured that if we didn’t want it then That Boy could stick it on FreeCycle if needed.

The Stig and The Kiwi walked the hammock frame from my Mum’s house across the park to our house. They’d been to play football then walked to my Mum’s house and collected the frame, they then walked back to the house with the frame.

I walked from my house to the supermarket then across the green to my Mum’s house – I took my flip flops off and walked through the grass without my shoes on to enjoy the fresh cut grass and the warm sunshine. (yeah sounds sooo cheesy!)

I got to Mum’s and me and Dad had a look at the website for the Queen Galadriel (The boat that That Boy is staying on this week) It was funny because when he googled it some of the hits that came up were about the character Galadriel from the LOTR books by J.R.R. Tolkein (and the films directed by Peter Jackson)
Before tea we watched a documentary about Ikea – did you know that they have 5 factories across Sweden and Poland that make all the board and paper and stuff that the products are made of.

At tea time Stig and Kiwi came downstairs and I was laying on the floor in the middle of the hallway because my back needed clicking. Kiwi came downstairs first and decided that it would be hilarious to lay on top of me. It definately did the trick and clicked my back. The Stig then dedcided that he was going to sit on The Kiwi (laying down would have been better because of the whole spreading the weight thing. Then while we were waiting for tea Stig and Kiwi started play fighting in the kitchen, it ended up that Stig was pinned in the corner of the kitchen. The Kiwi had him up against the wall so I started tickling – he let out the most girliest gigle I’ve ever heard – it was at that point that I got the giggles and The Stig got the upper hand – he grabbed my wrist and started to turn it – so I had to let go because he was hurting me.
Me Mum and Dad sat in the living room and watched Doctor Who, after that me, Stig and Kiwi played Wii Fit – which was good because after all the gardening it made my muscles un-seize a bit. We then had a bit of a challenge – you play Boom Boom Pow by the Black Eyed Peas and then you do crunches and stuff like that to it – I was dying by about half way through – I was in sooo much pain lol. The Kiwi at one point grabbed my jeans round the ankles to pull up my legs – just enough to assist but not enough that she was doing all the work lol. Apparently I did well for a beginner lol.
Dad came in to see what the hysterics were about and we tried to get him to do it. The Kiwi tried to get Dad to do it – I think he was trying to show off and join in the fun but instead he ended up lying in the middle of the floor not moving – I think he’d hurt his back or something but didn’t let on. The Stig did really well but he kept holding his breathe. He went a funny purple colour at one point and I had to tell him to breath (which made him laugh lol).
I had a flick through The Stig’s DVD collection – it’s mainly horrors and thrillers and stuff like that. I read the blurb on Hard Candy – I remember it coming out at the cinema and That Boy wanted to see it – I can’t remember if he went in the end – I might have to ask The Murf if he’s seen it and what he thinks of it. We then watched Equilibrium – I remember seeing it years ago and could just about remember the premise of the story.
I came home and realised that I’d left my phone, iPod and the other hammock bits at my Mum’s house! I went on Facebook when I got home and posted about how I might miss church because I don’t have an alarm clock (we have an alarm clock in the bedroom but it’s not loud enough to wake me up!)
Then this morning at about 20 to 9 the phone started ringing. I ignored it the first time figured that it was probably a sales call and decided to go back to sleep. The second time the phone rang I decided that it must be important and I had to get up and check it. I answered the phone and the lady at the other end said “Hi Hannah, it’s Beth”. I’m like I only know two Beths – both of which don’t have my number let alone my home number, I kinda go “oh hi” then the voice at the other end says “It’s Steph” well it was Steph Q – she’d seen my message about not having my phone, she’d then called someone at church for the number but they didn’t have it. I’m not quite sure how she ended up with it but we then had this conversation about making sure I was awake and that she’d see me at church lol.
That was the least of my worries this morning – I got to church and I plugged my phoen in to charge while I finished getting teas and coffees ready (or at least as much as you can before the service). The lady who was doing the class for the upper school kids came in and asked if That Boy was at church – I said that he wasn’t and her expression changes. Apparently That Boy had been volunteered or had volunteered to set up a DVD. I say thats okay let me finish here and I’ll come and set it up for you. Well then we had a problem – no laptop to run the DVD. I explain that I can go get my Mum’s laptop and set up, I figure that if I get the laptop I can get to Mum’s and back in about 20 minutes. I get to Mum’s and it’s got the wrong connector on it – can’t set it up with the projector so I decide I’ll come home for mine except – 1. Don’t know where my adapter thingy is to plug in the power point and 2. The DVD drive doesn’t work properly on my laptop. I grab That Boy’s laptop and head back to church. I managed to get the first clipped paused in the right place. (It was Beauty and the Beast and I wanted to stay to watch the clip).
So fast forward to the end of church and I go to clear up the laptop and projector – it all went fine was what I really wanted to hear but in the end it was that the first clip worked but the second didn’t have any audio (I had said to the other leader that if he was having trouble then he could come grab me as I would be in the service).
That was my weekend. Summarised into one post! I’m still working on the Gadget Show post because there is so much to include lol.

The One Where I Vent

I know I said I would post about The Gadget Show and then didn’t but yesterday didn’t really go to plan – I felt rubbish all morning then spent most of the day crashed out on the sofa rather than doing anything properly productive.

I then spent between 4 and 5 hours cutting the lawn in our back garden – the grass hasn’t been cut since we moved in, in November so I had to do one of those crazy cuts – it’s still not finished.

I couldn’t move earlier (And now I won’t be able to move because The Kiwi tried to make me do a stomach crunch routine – it was painful!!)

So there might be a post tomorrow for now i need to grab a shower and hit my bed. Night night

The One With The Lack of Brains

Yesterday I went to the Gadget Show Live and had an awesome time. I have so much to write about it that it might take two posts – or one whopping great long one! Today I have the day off work because in the original plan me and That Boy (btw CJ doesn’t like being called CJ so I am going to try That Boy out for a little while – my Dad used to call him that lol) were going to stay over in Birmingham (or somewhere near by but he’s now going away for a week on a yacht boat thingy with a bunch of young people so we had to come home so that he could have a extra day at work to deal with all the bits that he wouldn’t be sorting out next week.
So I am sat on the sofa contemplating what to do next.
At present my options are:
  • Sleep on the sofa
  • Put Chuck Season 1 on (and probably sleep on the sofa!)
  • Curl up in bed upstairs and sleep
I’m guessing that option 3 would be most beneficial and normal for me but I think that even at the moment climbing the stairs (yes all 13 steps) may kill me so sleep on sofa seems like a good plan.
Also I want to be able to give my full brain capacity and attention to remembering every detail of the Gadget Show Live.
So I will be back later with my brain in gear and raring to go, for now Chuck in going on the TV and I am going to curl up with the blanket here on the sofa and be sleepy.
I also had some news about the work twitter account – except it came to me via tweet rather than face to face which is kinda upsetting (Yes i did cry but this was because I was tired and had some bad news yesterday evening after leaving the Gadget Show. Also I need to do some writing for Script Frenzy.

The One With Dot Robot

I love the Gadget Show (and am going to see it live this week wahoo!)

This evening this video was posted by Jason Bradbury about his book called Dot Robot – the robot is called Punk and it’s from the book that Jason wrote.

The video is cool and all I can say is that if our kitchen ended up like that CJ would kill me lol.

ScriptFrenzy Update: 4th April

For the last three years in November I’ve tried to take part in NaNoWriMo but always failed – I always really struggle with the word count lol. I was sent an email about ScriptFrenzy and thought it’s worth a try – at least once. Well it’s Day 4 and I’m on page 34. At 3.3 pages a day the target for today is to be on Page 12. So as i’m on Page 34 that’s the equivalent of the target for the 11th.

That makes sense right?

The One With Delirious

Mike Rimmer @ Cross Rhythms compiled lots of clips together about people all over the country getting History Maker by Delirious to Number 1 later today (18 hours and we’ll know!!!!)

I remember seeing Delirious in the chart on TOTP when I was about 14 with the song Deeper – I never saw them actually perform on the BBC. However on Wednesday and again this afternoon the DJs at Radio 1 (Greg James played it on his MidWeek Chart Show and it was requested lots on Reggie Yates Show this afternoon and then was played around 5pm ish. (if you go here and start playing at 58 mins ish then you can hear it – It’ll only be up until next Saturday) )

The One That GMH

A while back one of the lads in my youth group at church was telling me about a website called FML (or at least thats the clean version of the website name).

He also went on to tell me about it’s sister site called GMH. This stands for Gives Me Hope. These stories are so sweet – some are kinda sad and I get a bit weepy lol. I also found it’s new sister site called LGMH or Love Gives Me Hope – which is specifically ones about Love and Romance giving people hope.

I found this video and wanted to share the love.

101 in 1001 Days: Day 4

So today is Day 4, and I’ve completed 1 goal – I think I actually completed it on Day 1 but we’ll count it as today.

Today is Easter Maundy Thursday which means I have tomorrow and Monday off work – I am kinda excited about this as I’ve spent all week feeling really tired and generally not with it.

Kaelah is working on a project for her college class and I want to help her out – my main problem is that I don’t have a scanner at home so I might have to do it and then tweak etc on my Mum’s computer and hope its the right resolution and stuff like that. (Only thing is I need to have it done by Sunday – I have no plans for Saturday at the moment so I might be able to work on it then!)

EDIT: Ally corrected me – I got it wrong – Easter Thursday is a week today – today is Maundy Thursday.

The One With The Meal Out

Day 322 – Happy Birthday
Originally uploaded by KWG73

Yesterday was my Dad’s birthday. We were unable to go out for a meal yesterday as we had practices and bits on, so instead this evening we went out for dinner.

We went to the Beefeater at Priory Marina, it’s a nice restaurant but it used to be better (they removed some decent meals from the menu that were replaced with not so good ones lol)

Me and Mum had a platter thing to share between us which was nice. The Stig shared one of those with CJ, I then had his grilled pepper stuff from his kebab thing (Yup I had extra pepper by choice!)

For my mains I had pesto Pasta with Chargrilled Chicken – it wasn’t my first choice but the thing I wanted they had stopped doing at 6:30 (the wonders of a lunch/dinner menu). It was actually okay although when it said pesto pasta I expected the sauce to be like pesto out of a tube instead it had cream and stuff so it was creamier – if thats even a word lol.

Our waitress wasn’t really on the ball and when we ordered our desserts she brought me a Chocolate Fudge Sundae thingy when I’d ordered Belgian Waffle with Toffee Sauce. (I say that she wasn’t all the ball as when it came to our starters, she’d only put through one platter thing rather than two and she brought our drinks order a little later and brought me a pint of 6X that my Dad was drinking rather than a Diet Pepsi as I’d asked for)

My brother started play fighting with me, I gave him a wet willie (no don’t be rude it’s when you lick your finger and then poke in it the persons ear – or in my case i wiped it across his ear and face lol). I sat with my hands over my ears because I didn’t want him to do it back to me. He then grabbed my wrist and gave me a Chinese burn (explanation here) – i was too busy laughing because it was funny that he was still grossed out about me attacking him to cry – even though I was in pain and my arm had gone bright red lol.
Anyhoo all in all it was a good meal and I had fun celebrating my Dad’s Birthday with my family.
