101 in 1001: Day 1

I didn’t manage to achieve anything lol. Well I guess to a certain degree I did a achieve a few bits as I started counting on Saturday Afternoon (mainly because I finished my list on Friday I think and wanted to get started)

I watched Forever Young and Julie & Julia on Saturday afternoon with The Kiwi. (Yes I know I was supposed to be tech-less – TV was my downfull but also The Kiwi leaves soon for like 2.5 weeks in Kiwi-Land so I won’t see her for a little while so I had to cram in girlie DVD time before she goes.) We also watched The World is Not Enough.

Anyway they all count towards

11. Watch 100 films

So 97 to go on that one lol

Forever Young also counts towards

48. Watch 26 movies I’ve never seen starting with each letter of the Alphabet

So I’ve got 25 to go on that one.

On Sunday, Me and CJ went for lunch at the Red Hot World Buffet in Milton Keynes, I tried Daal, it’s an indian dish that doesn’t look particularly nice but as soon as CJ said “I don’t think you’ll like it” I then had to try it to prove a point but it counts towards:

50. Try 5 new foods (0/5)

Day: 1
Goals to go: 101
How many started: 3 (I think!)

The One With The Paper Aeroplane

So I saw this post on Kaelah’s blog earlier this evening, and also the fact that I have been walking roung for two days with a star drawn on my hand (I have been washing my hands – each time it washes off a bit I go back and then re do it – each time the lines are getting straighter and more star like lol.) Anyhoo I went to have a look on the website that she had selected her pictures from to see if I found any I liked.

I am for little ones or some of these text ones are pretty cool. Anyway random pictures coming this way.

You can find all the tattoo images here.

I think I read the story of The Little Prince when I was younger. It’s a french story and the quote is translated to “Here is my secret, it is very simple. It is only with the heart that one sees rightly. The essential is invisible to the eye.”

This was a major buzz word at the #140conf last year – SERENDIPITY – I love the font too!

And last but not least….The Paper Aeroplane

The One With Bletchley Park

So growing up my Dad used to tell me about Bletchley Park and that there was the Enigma Machine. To be honest at the time it was boring – it was something from the war that my Dad thought was cool. Anyhoo all has changed now – I’m older and somehow at least a little wiser lol.

I made a new friend via Twitter this afternoon called @JasonGorman, I offered to repost his blog post in an aim that we can spread the word. So this is a guest post of sorts I guess!

UPDATE: The brilliant and very probably gorgeous Nigel Metheringham has started a pledge on Pledge Bank, which I have signed, and I urge all friends of Bletchley Park to sign, too. I can’t promise anything, but I will try my darned upmost to swing a special honour/treat for the first 20 who pledge.

Hello again.

Today saw a big announcement from those lovely but horrifically overworked folk at the Bletchley Park Trust. It’s all very hush-hush until they hold the press conference, of course. Watch this space. Actually, watch that space.

On the subject of Bletchley Park (so glad you brought it up), while good news comes in now and then, they still have a steep road to climb. The National Lottery people, in their infinite wisdom, have offered another £1.5 million in badly-needed funding. But only if the Bletchley Park Trust can match it. They still have about £1 million extra to raise in the next year and a bit.

This money will ensure that not only will much-needed repairs get done in time to stop irreversible damage to some of the most important historical sites in the history of computing, but they will be able to begin putting into action their plans to transform the park into the world-leading attraction it deserves to be.

I don’t know about you, but I haven’t done at all badly out of the whole “computing” thing, and I know I owe a great debt to the likes of Alan Turing, Tommy Flowers, and the thousands of others who went above and beyond the call of duty at Bletchley Park.

It saddens me no end to see such wonderful people doing such important work – both then and now with the tireless work of the Bletchley Park Trust – but not getting the A++, 5-star, kick-ass heritage site they really deserve.

So, one day later this year, I’m going to donate my coaching or training fee for that day to the Bletchley Park Trust. That’s about 0.03% of the money I’ve earned doing a job that I love, and for which I am eternally grateful. Hopefully some of my friends will join me on this special Working For Bletchley day and we might raise a few thousand pounds.

If you love working in computing, feel you haven’t done too badly out of it, and, like me, feel you owe a small debt to the men and women of Bletchley Park, perhaps you’d like to join us.

Literally all it involves is donating your earnings for one day – Thursday September 16th – directly to the Bletchley Park Trust. Simple as that.

To make it a bit more fun than just handing over your credit card details, we could, y’know, make a day of it. Organise drinks, dinners, fun stuff involving booze. That sort of thing. And maybe we’ll get some t-shirts, badges and hats printed. That way, Bletchley Park will know who their friends are in a crowd.

Of course, there might be a tad more to it than that (if folk want it to be tax-deductible, etc). And I’d like to capture pledges (in such a way that we don’t find out how much you earn, of course!) So I’ll be setting up a web site with info, FAQs, regular updates and very probably some kind of social networking element for the hipsters among us.

In the meantime, you can Tweet your intention to participate by using the hashtag #work4bletchley

Fingers crossed, it won’t just be me on the day!

The One With Ada and Some Links

So apparently (because I wasn’t awake or something like that), yesterday was Ada Lovelace Day. I saw it mentioned on Twitter this morning and so I went and phoned tweeted a friend this morning and asked her what it was about. The friend I tweeted is Dr Sue Black who is someone I’ve met IRL via the #140Conference in London (we discussed IT Curriculum), she’s the head of something technology related at the save Bletchley Park.

I guess I can be excused a little as Ada Lovelace Day has only been going for the last two years. The point of yesterday is to celebrate women in Science and Technology.

Ada herself was interested Mathematics when she young, which was interesting because at the time women were considered “too frail” to understand. She worked with Charles Babbage while he was considering the idea of the Analytical Machine (which is considered an early computer.) Ada wrote a program for this machine and had it ever actually been built her program would have been able to calculate various different sequeneces. Thus Ada is attributed as being the first Computer Programmer.

Hence Ada Lovelace Day.

There have been lots of blog posts being posted on Finding Ada.

Here are some that I liked or found interesting:

Marielle (there is a little bit of strong language with regards to the FaceBook bit later on in the post.)

Anu

Wendy from the USA wrote about Amelia Earhart – who I think is cool 🙂 (I think I blogged about Amelia Earhart once – I’ll see if I can find it lol)

Thomas – Yes even guys can blog about Ladies in Tech! (He writes about Sue – my friend from earlier!)

101 in 1001 Days

So I may have mentioned it before and then never got any further but last night I finished my 101 in 1001 days list. As of the 29th March I am doing it! No messing about this time I am doing it and I am going to finish it. Me and my sidekick (who blogs here – I’m not sure if she wants to be named so for now she is My Sidekick) have teamed up to keep each other on track and hopefully at Christmas 2012 we will both be celebrating the fact that we will have both completed 101 things in 1001 days.

My list can be found on the link on the side bar but if you are too lazy to go find it you can click here and that will take you there. You can also look at the Day Zero site here – they have lots of information about how the idea started and things like that. I hope to be blogging once a week about what I’ve achieved etc – there will also be specfic posts relating to each task 🙂 (These posts will be tagged with “101 in 1001 days” and also when they contain information about completed posts they will be tagged “Completed Tasks”. Well and truly organised lol.

The One With No Tech Day

NoTechDay-Practical action badge

I made a new friend on Friday called Louise. Well at least I tweeted her and waiteThere is a company called Rabbit who launched a very cool project today called No Tech Day for their charity client Practical Action.

Practical Action are a charity who “use technology to fight poverty”, rather than just giving someone the food for today they helped that person to grow food for their families and the people in their community. They have a very cool water pump that is powered by the kids playing on the merry go round/turntable. You can see here for more details.

So until this morning I hadn’t heard of NoTechDay. On Friday Louise @ Rabbit was looking for some assistance and I tried to answer the call, unfortunately she was busy organising the team and stuff like that so I didn’t hear back from her till today.

So anyway, I think I hear you saying but whats this all got to do with you?

Well….

it got me thinking – how many times a day do I check my email, my facebook or my Twitter accounts, I come home and watch TV or write a blog post, how much electricity or battery power am I using with these activities. So Saturday 27th March I am giving up technology for the day.

So I am giving up the following:

This means that for about 24 hours (I say about because I’m at Mrs C’s on Friday and possibly over night so from the time that I get up on Saturday to the same time Sunday morning. I’m not allowed to use technology of the above descriptions.)

This means I am giving up the following:

My Raspberry

My iPod

My MacBook

My Car stereo – yes if I go out in the car I’ll be music-less

Our Nintendo Wii + DS

TV/DVD

If you want more information you can find the NoTechDay website here. You can also tweet them @NoTechDay.

However I just realised that I have to get up before 10am on Saturday otherwise I’m going to have to stand in church with my eyes closed or something as the projector shows the words rather than having hymn books in church lol.

The One With My Weekend

So originally my weekend post started with Friday  – then I realised quite how much I had written for Friday and that I may need to start a whole new post for Saturday and Sunday.

I got up Friday and felt awful. I got up at about 8ish absolutely baking there was no way I would be able to go to sleep unless my temperature knocked me out instead. I went downstairs and curled up on the sofa – at least it was colder down here and with a jumper over my head I might be able to sleep some more. Well unfortunately I didn’t sleep any more. I hung out and played DS for about four hours! My head had begun to hurt and so on and off I’d attempted to sleep but it wasn’t working.

When CJ went to work at 12pm I decided I’d give sleeping in bed a shot – maybe my brain would realised that I was in bed and that meant that I could sleep. Well it did the trick – I woke up about 2ish and The Kiwi was home from work and offering me a bacon sandwich (I swear  she is my super hero/mind reader some days!). I decided that I’d get dressed and come downstairs again – I didn’t want to be in bed all weekend and somehow curled up on the sofa was a little more dignified lol.

So armed with my bacon sandwich, a box of tissues, and various other items I curled up on the sofa and played more DS – yes I think I am actually addicted to the game! I played for about 2 or 3 hours and then The Stig and The Kiwi came downstairs to watch Evolution. I think there was a war started at this point – I have a photo of my brother with The Kiwi in a headlock and he’s sat on her or on the floor next to her head – I would post it but my brother looks positively evil lol.

Although I was ill and felt pants I had a seriously good time – watching my brother and The Kiwi try to beat each other up was quite funny especially when The Stig tried to give The Kiwi a “wet willy” (Don’t panic nothing rude! Urban Dictionary says “A wet willy is to lick/spit on your finger creep up to an unsuspecting person and put your finger in their ear while turning it around”) Okay so The Kiwi wasn’t unsuspecting and I’m sure she was aware that it was probably going to happen as my brother knows that it gets the best reaction (something verging on a squeal!!) I was then told off for not sticking up for either party – I was encouraging from my seat across the room!

At some point in the proceedings CJ arrives home from work and he’s a man on a mission, he brings me  some cold relief and then disappears into the kitchen – he cooks up the loveliest Spag Bol I’ve had in ages along with Garlic bread – there was alot and I think I must have ate a stick on my own (think maybe 9 slices at about an inch thick – yes people I am a small elephant really!)

I’ve had a little mind blank at this point and can’t remember what I did for the rest of the evening – I know that there was a lot of Super Mario being played both by me and CJ but I can’t really have played like 4 hours of it – could I?

Sunday

Although I missed band practice on Thursday, the worship leader wanted me to play anyway – I knew the songs the only one that was a little challenging was To God Be The Glory – which fortunately I knew anyway. I made sure I took some cold relief with me and at one point was sat in the middle of the stage with my mug trying to down a rather warm drink without stopping so that we could get on with the rehearsal lol. Church was okay but I left pretty quickly after as CJ hadn’t been very well this morning.

This afternoon I watched the whole of Julie and Julia again – I loved it just as much as the first time – however I didn’t have the urge to cook this time hehe.

If you’re like me and you are running of to google Julie Powell – her original blog is here and her new post-Julie/Julia project blog is here (And she was on Rachael Ray’s show!).

I keep wondering about whether I could do a project like that but then again I don’t have the patience to cook all those recipes – come to think of it I don’t have the Julia Childs book – however I do have The Joy of Cooking (thats a whole different story to how I ended up with an American cookbook and why I think it’s better than my english ones lol)

The One With Passion For Life

So towards the end of last week I was beginning to feel it – I needed my bed and some cold relief desperately!

I finished work on Friday and ideally should have come home to die (Yes fellow blog readers I was sick AGAIN!!!). I was due to be stewarding at an event called A Passion For Life: Real Lives. I decided that I’d go to my Mum’s as planned, dose up on Paracetamol and fight my way through after all it was the last night and it was due to be a good one. On my way to Mum’s I nipped into the supermarket to look at the DS games (I was given a DS for my birthday I think two years ago and since about 3 months after my birthday my Mum and Brother have adopted it – I decided if I got a good game for it then I could adopt it back – just in time for my 24th in a few weeks).

I decided to buy Mario and Sonic at The Winter Olympics and then turned round to see that Julie and Julia is now out on DVD – I loved this film when it came out and wrote a whole post about it and my cooking adventures.

So I get to Mum’s and we tuck into Lasagne for tea – yummy! (Yes I need to learn how to cook Lasagne too hehe) It turns out that CJ was let down my his camera team for the evening and he needed some assistants – so I ended up doing that rather than stewarding – which was kinda good because to a certain degree I wanted to curl up in a corner lol.

The evening all in all was good but I struggled with the camera work because it takes so much concentration and it wasn’t like it was scripted or anything like that.

Richard Coekin was host and he interviewed Jo Gambi, Diane-Louise Jordan and John Mosey.

Jo Gambi

Jo and her husband Rob completed the Seven Summits and have done expeditions to the North and South Poles. The Seven Summits are the highest peak on each continent. Thats Mt McKinley (North America), Aconcagua (South America), Kilimanjaro (Africa), Vinson (Antartica), Kosciuszko (Australia), Everest (Asia) and Elbrus (Europe).

Not just that her husband Rob has fought his way through two bouts of Cancer. (The adventures took place after the second bout)

Diane-Louise Jordan

I grew up on Blue Peter (when Diane left Blue Peter in 1996 I was 9 years old so it was a staple of my TV viewing lol).

Diane was the fourth longest-serving female presenter of Blue Peter and she was presenting around the same time as John Leslie and Anthea Turner. She now is one of the regular presenters on Songs of Praise. I got to meet her and chat to her after the show and she’s so lovely and friendly – there was a girl in front of me in the queue and Diane listened intently to her and chatted to this girl who was maybe about 10 or 11.

John Mosey

This gentleman was so lovely, Zoza, Switch, Me and their friend chatted to John after the show – he was really friendly and chatted to us about what we did (those three are students – that made me feel old hehe). He was interviewed by Richard about his daughter and about his faith. His daughter was on the Pan Am 103 flight (You might not know it by the flight number but it is also referred to as the Lockerbie Bombing). Richard asked him about whether his faith was affected by the fact he lost his daughter in such away. It was really sad in a way listening to him about the trauma he went through, he was interviewed by news crews and things like that in the days following the bombing in 1988 (I was 2 years old so I have no memory of it myself but I have read about it over the years).

Having dosed up on Paracetamol and generally was feeling rough as, I am glad that I still went (and if you are my friend on FB you’ll see that I’ve posted a picture of me and Diane – as taken by her husband on my husbands phone hehe).

I also made a new friend who I am about to email to say hi. Hopefully it won’t be too weird lol.

The One With The Sale

I think now is the time for spring cleaning! I tidied out my wardrobe at the weekend and bagged all my bits up to go to the charity store.

My lovely friend Kaelah is having a clear out of her wardrobe before she goes to NYC over the summer.

This funky badge takes you to Kaelah’s Photobucket page where you find lots of different albums 🙂 then drop her an email. For more information (as the badge says!) go to Kaelahbee.com.

Likes: The Urban Bag (and Our Trip To Paris!)

In 6 weeks I’m 24 and in 8 weeks ish I am going to Paris – Yes I am just a bit excited!!!

I’m am my mothers daughter and even though it’s 8 weeks away I’ve already thought about what I’m taking with me and things like that. Yup phrase book and guide book are somewhere near the top – I’ve been to Paris once before and that was on a school trip so wasn’t really fending for myself or anything like that.

When it comes to clothes I’ve decided that I should be able to go with pretty much the minimum lol. It’s an overnight trip (train Sat am then train back Sun pm) so it’s not like I need to take lots of outfits with me I just need to plan (which is why I am thinking about it now – 8 weeks early).

We’re due to be going out for dinner on the Saturday evening so I need something smart for that, other than that I would just need a spare shirt and bits and pieces for Sunday.

I have a big camping rucksack and a suitcase but I don’t have anything really kinda travel size – I want something that I can use during the day while sightseeing etc but something big enough to fit my stuff in.

I was looking on Etsy for other bits (mainly browsing to add items to my wish list before my birthday lol) then I found this fab bag. I messaged the shop owner and she said that she can fit a couple of outfits in and use it as a day bag – awesome! She says she can also fit her laptop in – well that’s a good start maybe I can get rid of my laptop case (I have a chunky rucksack one like this) and then use this bag as a laptop bag after the Paris Trip.

Then again if I get it before the end of April I might be able to use it as a trial run at the Leaders Conference – when I went last year I would try and carry my bible and a notebook but then would have to carry a my bottle of water separate so a day bag would be good. (good idea!)

This bag is created by Pam who runs the Fantella shop on Etsy. She makes them in lots of different colours so if you have a request chat to her she’s lovely and friendly 🙂 She asked my silly questions so she must be cool!

The One with The Good, The Bad and No Ugly

Right, we’ll start with the bad bit and then finish on the good bit that way it balances out like the bad news before the good news.

So bad news – had a rubbish morning, got in to find a ranty email from my manager in my inbox – cause of much debate this morning and I went and stood in the loos for like 10 minutes because I was weepy but not quite crying – I worked my backside off Friday afternoon doing stuff and then she turns round and tells me off for doing one thing that wasn’t really my fault (I wasn’t at my desk long enough to check the answerphone – if it was that desperate maybe she could have checked it as I had my head in a filing cabinet for about two hours! Issues!

GRR! Now I’m tense again and getting wound up in my inner voice (Do you have an Inner voice? Like where you run through how you think a conversation should go before you have it) right deep breathe for the funny and good bit.

A week or so ago my colleague form the USA was here for a couple of days – I think he was a little floored by some things about our office.

Cubicles

From what he said in the USA everyone has a cubicle but like a little one you can just about put your elbows out and touch both walls lol. Us on the other hand I guess we’d be “open-planned” and we have bigger desks.

Drinks

So the unwritten rule is that if you get a drink you offer to everyone else to get them one too, at most there is 7 other people so it’s not too hard if you boil a full kettle and go from there. (I nearly always have a cold drink so that’s less on the water too)

In the US it’s a big office so it is kind of a case of fend for yourself. I think this floored him too because like every hour we’re on the next round of drinks lol. (Yes there is a knack to asking at certain times so you get a smaller round!)

So much so today he phoned my colleague on her direct line to say “I’m going for lunch and I just wanted to see if anyone wanted a drink”.

I love how we’re so many thousands of miles apart but yet jokes carry lol.

The One Where I Curl Up and CRY?

I’m not very good when it comes to speaking french, I can ask where the toilet is and things like that but you want me to hold a proper conversation and I go to pot.

I was on my own in Customer Service today at lunchtime and the phone rang. It was the normal helpdesk line so I picked the phone up without it even crossing my mind at how stupid I was about to look.

The customer said hello in French and then started off on one. Our first amount of conversation was trying to decide what language we would speak seeing as he didn’t speak English or Italian and I don’t speak French or Portugese.

Good start! I figure that as long as he speaks slowly I can guess the words and try and form a conversation via Google Translate. I kept asking him to speak slower but that didn’t work so then I tried to explain that my colleague was at lunch – again Key Stage 3 French doesn’t prepare you for this lol.

So somehow in my rubbish franglais we work out that the customer needs to call back in an hour when my one of my french speaking colleagues should be back in the room adn able to take the call. Well I hope he does call back and that my rubbish attempt has no way put a blemish on our team. Somehow it could have been better thats for sure! I think French Customer Service lessons is the way forward! Then we’ll think about German too.

The One With Part Two

Around five weeks ago I wrote a post about Ade and his company Masquerade.

2010 is the year that Masquerade is celebrating 20 years in the business.

Unfortunately I couldn’t attend the premiere of Masquerade Reloaded but I was still able blog about it.

I was supposed to be back with Part Two but in that way that life does sometimes, it caught up with me. Ade emailed me this morning asking where his blog post is.

Ade here it is…..

So to recap a little.

Masquerade is an events company from London.

Adrian “Ade/Dr M” Silas is the Founder, Creative Director and the Man with the Plan(s). Ade loves his crazy characters to go with each theme including Vlad (He’s  KGB agent so think James Bond baddies), Don Vlad (New York Gangster – so think Godfather?), Ronnie Capri (Reformed Essex Playboy) and last but not least theres Dr M (this started as a character but is now one of Ade’s nicknames! I think I knew him as Dr M before I knew his name was Ade/Adrian!) . There’s even an idea on the drawing board for Ade to host an Alice in Wonderland themed party with Ade as the Mad Hatter!!!

Anyway thats not why I am here. I’m here to write about the highlights and clips that are currently on Masquerade UK’s Website.

So following the short clips of interviews, we go to a behind the scenes look at the Premiere – starting with the guest of honour as DR M’s Mum arrives (Mum is one of the VIPs, isn’t she?)

Ade starts by talking about how Masquerade got started, originally it started just by organising Weddings.

The Camera man then pops round and talks to various people who help Ade.

(This is Colin with the girlies who were helping host the evening)

Janet the lovely Make Up lady also talks about the crazy make up that Ade has asked her to work on including painting some people purple (or is it orange?!) to be Oompa Loompas for a Charlie and The Chocolate Themed party.

The Venetians were on hand to welcome the guests outside

At some point a giant penguin appears – Ade will have to tell me about where the penguin fits in because I don’t know.

From the behind the scenes clips and information that Ade has sent me I can imagine that it was good fun and that lots of people were there enjoying themselves.

So that’s the first 20 years of Masquerade but Ade isn’t stopping there he’s got plans for a Club Masquerade night, he’s working with Richard Vobes (of Vobes.com) to create his own podcasts and to top that off he’s hosting a Twevent (aka in some circles as a Tweet up) with a Bat-Theme. Unfortunately if I’m invited to this one I’ll have to decline again (I’ll be at the Gadget Show Live in Birmingham that day!!)

(Then again having watched the behind the scenes video of all these beautiful people I would have been a right scruff bag!!!)

If you are interested in contacting Ade:

Email: ade at Masquerade dot Com

Twitter: @drmasquerade

He’s also started a blog which you can find here. (The header is a bit bright but scroll down it’ll be okay!

He even has his own cartoon character!

The One With Shopping Sites

Wikio is a news portal with a search engine that looks at blogs and other media sites. You can use it to search through news and blog feeds, you can use it to search videos and now you can also use it as a price comparison site.

Earlier I had emailed my brother about what games he was looking for at the moment for his XBox 360. He gave me the titles of two games that he was looking for. I decided I would use these for this test.

The first is Bioshock 2 on XBox 360 and the second is Dante's Inferno for XBox 360.

Google returned the following:

Bioshock 2 – over 900 hits majority of the first two pages were strategy guides. The first copy of the game I found was half way down the second page and that was after narrowing the price to £15-90.

Dante's Inferno: This time there was 65 results the first copy of the full game was the fifth item to come up on the first page.

Wikio Shopping returned the following:

Bioshock 2 – 11 prices ranging from £16 to £64, various sites including Lovefilm.com and Amazon Marketplace

Dante's Inferno – 3 prices from £31.99 to £37.93

My Opinion
The Wikio Shopping site is easy to find your way round and find price comparion on items. Wikio has got it, it came up with what I was looking for without having to go back and edit my search terms – I was able to find a range of prices that looked at different sites. It even offers reviews, user opinions, forums, and photos and videos of the product. I might come back and use it again.

For the above items I found by using the search box. I also used the categories section to find the prices for an Apple iPhone; each window you visit cuts your choices down into different categories and after about 3 choices I had the following page in front of me. The site is clear and easy to understand and you can find what you are looking for without too much effort.

So the picture above isn’t my mail but I found it on Flickr and decided to use it. I also love mail, like proper through your front door or in your mail box letters. Okay so most of the time they are junk or bills but I love proper letters. To me I think it’s something to do with that an email can be written in seconds and sent off whereas a proper letter has time taken over it.

(Am I making sense?!)

So I tend to sit at the bottom of our staircase and read the letters there or lean up against the work top in the kitchen. I have been known to park in the hallway directly behind the door (not good in most houses that have inward opening front doors).

The One Where I Learn to Crochet

Anyway so me and Mum grabbed the wool and a crochet needle at the craft store while we were there today. I had a few issues and kept doing 6 stitches instead of 3 stitches in some places. Can’t wait to do more!

I also filled some more pages in my BB journal today.

The One With Things I like

Technically it’s called Things I Love Thursday but for this week it has become The One With Things I Like. I had no charge in my MacBook and had got a little addicted to Super Mario Bros on the Wii. I completed one boss and two levels on my own then with Chris managed to complete another level after band practice.

So here are my loves this week:

Lisbon and Jane in The Mentalist

The Mentalist – I loved the first season but love the second season even more. I’m trying to be good but did YouTube Van Pelt and Rigsby to see if there were any spoilers/clips (and there were!!!!)

Sunshine!! I love the snow but I like the sun too!

My Dad – My bass has been poorly – so poorly that I thought that I might have to take it in for official fixing. Usually I take a screwdriver (or similar implement that does the job!) to my guitar and fix it. Following band practice yesterday, I took my bass to my Dad’s house and asked him if he could fix it. After getting a bit stressy at me because he was in the middle of something he went off into the garage and returned with a screw and a screwdriver and fixed the guitar – just like that! My Dad rocks!

Kaelah's Tattoo

Tattoos – Yes the Christian girl on the blog likes tattoos. I wouldn’t have anything quite like Kaelah‘s (see the picture above)  I’m more for little ones or ones that have reasons behind them rather than the fact that they are pretty or cute but I do like them in moderation I guess would be the phrase! Yesterday I read a post about Kaelah and her new arm tattoo – it’s an octopus and it’s amazing. I would have like a little star or something like that but if I do then I can’t give blood (or bone marrow which I’m still waiting for a response about) for like a year or something like that. There’s also the risk that I won’t be able to give it again for one reason or another. (Also please vote for her here – It’s going to be an amazing opportunity for her if she wins).

So there we go…. I might not be around much this weekend as I’ve got quite a lot on and not a lot of battery. Chris had to take the working charger away with him so I have about 3 hours of battery to last all weekend.

The One With More Random Bags

I was looking for pictures of Paracetamol or painkillers and I found all sorts of “exploded” bag shots. If I get my brain in gear tomorrow I’ll try and sort my own picture. Tomorrow I am finalising my presentation that I’m presenting on Wednesday. I’ve also got girlies group so need to read the chapter as well.

(This might be a little picture heavy)

The One With The Fabulous Car

Chitty Chitty Tickethannypants

On Saturday after some extreme planning we made it to Milton Keynes Theatre to see Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. I ended up sat between my brother and my Dad – probs not the best place as my brother didn’t appreciate me singing along (but I don’t care lol) but on the other hand my Dad joined in with me when we boo’d the Child Catcher. (Apparently I used to be scared of the Child Catcher on the film lol.)

I grew up on the film. The film was produced by Albert Broccoli who would later go on to Direct/produce a lot of the James Bond films through the 60s and 70s.

The two Vulgarian spies were hilarious, they were a great double act especially when they were trying to be English and then when one of the dogs escaped they filled the gap with practically no hesitation (One made a comment about that the dog was a Shih-Tzu the other then responded with something along the lines of “I’ve told you don’t call me Sue”, it was funny and seemed like it should fit so that was good lol.

Later in the year there is a performance of The History Boys by Alan Bennett and I’m kinda tempted to go see it but I don’t think any of friends will come and see it. Then again is going to the theatre on my own worse than going to the cinema on my own.

The One With The Weekend

So Saturday involved bouncing from one thing to the next, I got up and got stuff sorted – my room still looks like a bomb hit it – thank goodness for major sort out day on the 13th! I was about to walk to Mum’s when The Kiwi asked for a hand with the vacuum cleaner – the container thingy needed emptying and she didn’t know how to open it (I didn’t really know either but I made it look like I did hehe)

We got the vacuum sorted and I started to head off, The Kiwi shouted at me did I want a lift rather than walking. I accepted (and luckily about 20 minutes after I arrived at Mum’s in the car it started raining – I would have got drenched!!!)

Me and Mum sat painting our fabric ready for Kathy’s bead making workshop next week at Tudor Rose (I am so excited!). We were a little worried that we did it wrong so hopefully it works lol. While we had the paints out I also painted some pages in my journal from the British Birds Round Robin Swap that finished last week on Swap-Bot.

After that we sorted some lunch and watched The Mentalist while tucking into our sausage sandwiches. (When are Van Pelt and Rigsby going to get it together!!!! ISSUES!!)

About half way through, The Kiwi and her cousin arrived to collect me from Mum’s we then collected JenJen and Bex, while The Kiwi nipped into her other cousin’s house (who lives like next door to Bex we were all plotting about the rest of the afternoon and what was going to happen)

We got to MK and struggled to find a space – it’s a Saturday and although Bex has a Disabled Badge she’ll only park in the Disabled bat if she really needs to – most of the time she can use a normal space.

We found a space in the end and headed for the stores. I needed to get two birthday cards and a birthday present as this was the weekend of like 3 birthdays!

I got Becca a cookery book called 500 Cakes. I already had a present for Mrs Mow Mow as I bought it when me and CJ went shopping at Ikea a few weeks ago – we spotted a mug/cup with a saucer that made us think immediately of Caroline.

I bought a new handbag in TKMaxx (I’ll take a photo and post it tomorrow or Wednesday). We headed up to ShakeAway as Bex wanted one. I was in Waterstones while she got it so I didn’t know what flavour she got – I just said that she couldn’t have chocolate in it and she said that I was sharing it because then it wouldn’t kill her diet/health kick too much. (It would just be bruised a little hehe).

From there me, The Kiwi and Kiwi’s Cousin headed back to the car and then moved the car round the corner to the theatre district so that we would be prepared for Surprise One and Two.

So here came Surprise One.

So with Bex’s cool skills we’d managed to get The Kiwi to TGI Fridays for tea. The Kiwi and her cousin nipped in to the bar to grab a drink as we nipped round the corner to grab Mum Dad and the rest of the gang that were appearing for Part One. We headed into the bar and surprised The Kiwi! She had no idea that anything was happening till then.

Eventually we got seated and ordered our food – we couldn’t make too much of a deal about the time delay because The Kiwi would have questioned what was going on.

So here came Surprise Two.

After dinner we headed outside. Bex mentioned about walking the long way round back to the car because we’d all eaten too much. As we walked towards the theatre we bumped into group no 2 who were coming to the Theatre with us. At this point Bex announces about going to see Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and The Kiwi is floored about things like how we’d managed to keep it a secret and how we’d all ended up there in the same place lol.

When CJ did a climb at the Outdoor Centre I had a horrible dream, I was convinced that he’d really injured himself in this particular climb. It was made worse when I woke up and he’d already left for work, I was bricking it – genuinely convinced that my dream had actually happened. I woke up and texted him to check – I figured if I didn’t get a reply then my dream did happen.

Anyway I had one of those moments this morning – I had to lie in bed for like 10 minutes and convince myself that no I wasn’t on holiday and also had to convince myself of some other random bits in my dream.

The strangest part of my dream was that I felt genuinely happy like every part of me was smiling. I guess that didn’t help with getting my brain in gear for a Monday morning but it did mean that I was upright and ended up being at work at 10 to 9 (I grabbed breakfast at the canteen before going into work…I think my appetite is back. Saturday dinner was a stress because I wasn’t hungry when we finally sat down to eat but more of that to come in another post!)

Likes: The One With The Mini Munny

Yesterday I used an image taken by Open-Socket. They mentioned about their KidRobot bag – so I used google and went off on a search and found the London store and it’s website.

I also found these that I think are super cool and I’d really like one (or a few maybe!)

Unfortunately a bag is going to set me back around £60 – thats a lot of money for one hand bag – I think I might have to stick with collecting Mini Munnys.

I think it annoys CJ that I love quilts like this so much. My Mum made me and CJ a white, beige and cream coloured quilt so that while we were renting houses/flats it would go with anything.

Mum used to try and teach me to quilt but I am nowhere near this good lol. If you can leave a comment on Margot’s Flickr Page or here and I’ll pass them on.

So originally this post was going to be about my day and how busy and rushed it was (hence me being laid out on the sofa with my journal on one side of me and my mobile on the other rather than being at house group or band practice like I was supposed to be). Then it was going to be about getting my journal from Pootle – which it might still be or I might dedicate a whole new post to it. It was then going to be a public apology to David after I upset him at the weekend but I apologised via email and Twitter and I think that’s okay for now we’ll see what happens.

The One With The Good Samaritan

I got up this morning and was feeling queasy and really hot. I pointed this out to Chris and he thought it might just be that because we had the gas supply changed yesterday it might be working efficiently. (To me this made sense this morning lol) I thought it was just because I went to bed with back ache following trampolining, so just decided to get on with the day and I’d see how it went.

Well it didn’t. I got to work at 10 to 9 and sat in the car for a few minutes to try and pull myself together and mentally get it together to go into work. I got out the car and walked round the other side to get my bag and lock the car (long story to why I can’t lock it from the drivers side – although CJ can lol)

It got worse and I knew I was going to be ill. It was too late – I had no time to run for the nearest bush (there are like no bins in our car park!) I threw up there and then in the car park.

I managed to pull myself together and was about to phone work when I threw again :(.

(Yup oh dear!) So I am just deciding what I want to do and how i’m going to get home if I do leave.

A lady pulls past me in her car and I think nothing of it – it’s 9am in our car park there are lots of cars all around. She parks up and comes and stands next to me. She asks me “Are you okay?” She then realises what a silly question she just asked and rephrases her question.

We have a little chat and I decide that I need to go home I’m in too much of a state to go into work.

I think over whether I can drive home and to be honest I was peaky and thought I may keel over! The lady then offers me a lift home and somehow it doesn’t cross my mind that this lady is a complete stranger and I have no idea who she is.

I phoned Ali and told her that I had been ill and that I was going home. Also that I would email The Big Cheese and my boss to let them know what had happened.

I accept her lift home and on the way we chat about where we work and things like that. I apologise to her and say that I’m sorry if she’s going to get in trouble for being lovely. She then says that she stayed extra late the night before so she has an excuse to be a little late.

I got home and the first thing I did was to email The Big Cheese and my boss. I then slept on and off for most of the day. A few times in my woken up state I replied to emails that my colleagues had sent me asking me about stuff that I was in the middle of. Unfortunately I couldn’t describe where one of the orders were so I’m glad that when I checked my emails later they had found the order and were able to process it.

So now it’s 8:44 and I’m watching the BAFTA‘s on iPlayer while avoiding doing my appraisal document!!

Anyhoo I can’t avoid it any more ttfn….

The One With Our Lunchbreak

I often wonder what an outsider would think of mine and JD’s friendship. We were in the Supermarket at lunch time and she was talking about rude and mean she sometimes is but somehow gets away with it. I said something along the lines of “I’m surprised you’re still my friend after you called my Mum a Triffid

(So this reference sounds mean but it was meant as a joke. I was telling JD about the remake of The Day of The Triffids, and then I had to try and explain what a Triffid was. Then in the vein of Yo Mamma jokes, she called my Mum a Triffid)

Anyhoo just as I was saying about how JD called my Mum a Triffid, my manager (The Big Cheese) walked past – oh dear lol. It was kinda funny in a cringe worthy way. JD and Me have the tendency to be a little loud and giggly – especially at lunchtime lol. I think it’s because we spend so much time at our respective jobs in our own little bubbles not talking to anyone that come lunchtime we have to chat as fast and as loud as possible lol. It hasn’t been mentioned so I don’t think he heard me lol.

It then got a little more surreal as me and JD queued at the till I changed till because there was no queue and it turned out that I was served just as The Big Cheese had left that till and then when I waited at the end of JD’s till two of my colleagues from my old job had queued behind JD to be served.

On the way back to work we discussed about how we can be one person/version of ourselves at work and then another version outside of work. We were talking about that at Girlies Group the other day. If you are being one version at work and another version of yourself outside of work are you hiding behind a mask?

The One with My Tuesday Evening

So yesterday, well this is before and excluding the falling down the stairs issues. After work I went to the supermarket for some food. I spotted the Rock Angel top that @minxymoggy found the other day for me (and tweeted about it too!) This is what it looks like.

Me and my friend David were discussing about whether I should get it and the conclusion we came to was yes and because then it could come out of my Marketing budget. Erm well ok so I don’t have a marketing budget for my blog and anything resembling marketing is at my own expense but I figured it was a good idea anyway. What do you think?

I then went to another local store to get a zip for Ali, she’d been into town at lunch and the one store she thought she might be able to get a zip from and the girl serving her wasn’t very helpful at all. So I popped into the store round the corner from the supermarket and was able to get one in the right colour for Ali.

I headed home and put away the shopping and grabbed some tea before parking in front of the television for a DVD fest. I watched the end of My Sister’s Keeper (I’d started it Monday evening), Imagine That and The History Boys. Somewhere in the middle I also watched The Brit awards albeit at high speed in places. (Me and Rickie discussed writing posts about The Brits so I might watch it again on high speed while scribbling bits to turn into a blog post. You can read Rickie’s blog post here.)

So I have three film reviews and a blog post about the Brits to write so I think I’ll catch you all later.

The One with The Power

I slipped down the stairs about 20 minutes ago.

I cried because I hurt myself. I mainly caught my hip and my bottom. I also got carpet burn on my palms and have noticed that I caught the knuckle on my little finger (it’s a little puffy so i’ve also taken my rings off just in case. It’s not properly hurting thats how I’m managing to write this.)

Once I worked out that everything hurt I made sure I could move my arms – just in case I needed to drag myself into the living room and find my phone and call someone. I guess I’d have decided that when I got to the phone or something.

Anyway I picked myself up off the floor and parked myself on the floor in the living room and decided to tweet about it (I also texted CJ but I think he’s asleep at his new friends house in London)

My first response came in from @CiarOD in New York. Yup the first worried person was across the Atlantic, followed by @SuchAGoodGirl about a minute later who is a UK lady too – I think that points out the power of Twitter at least a little bit. It would have been more interesting if I’d tweeted that I’d broken my leg or something and then through the links that are formed over Twitter an ambulance shows up on my doorstep. Now that would be crazy but I don’t plan to try it any time soon!

The One with a Birthday and Valentines

So Valentines Weekend was a weekend of ups and downs.

I’m going to miss out the downs because that would be pointing out various bits that I think should be kept ssh! now.

So good points:

My Dad bought my Mum a bunch of roses without being prompted (He made something up about how he needed to go to the supermarket to get his paper rather than the corner shop and when he came back he had a bunch of a dozen roses for my Mum :D)

Saturday evening was my best friends birthday outing, and minus the point where Dan the Man and LB’s hubby made me cry I had the best time (Long story but it’s forgiven and in the past now). The Five of us (Kewey, Dan The Man, LB and LB’s Hubby) had tea together in the hotel they were all staying in. It was lovely and nice to have a proper catch up before going out for a night on the tiles lol.

I think it’s me but Twitter continues to amaze me lol. On Saturday I posted from Foursquare about how we were in Las Iguanas at The Hub in MK. About an hour or so later I got a reply on Twitter from the Las Iguanas Tweeter wishing Serena a happy birthday. I showed her and she was really chuffed!

I left the outing at midnight. I had tried to park as close as I physically/legally could but I guess everyone else had had the same idea. The world and his wife was out because it was the Saturday before Valentines. As we walked from Lloyds to Oceana I said goodbye to everyone and asked Dan the Man and LB’s Hubby if one of them could walk me back to the car. I think one of my friends was concerned for me and so both Dan and LB’s Dan the Man and

The One With The Birds

Don’t worry it’s not a reference to The Birds (Directed by Alfred Hitchcock) or For The Birds (Short film by Pixar).

When I lived at home with my Mum and Dad, over the winter me and Dad would go out to the shed and refill the bird feeders. I kinda got that it was important but never got that bit lol. I’d see the birds fly in and out of the garden and got especially excited when we had a bird lay it’s eggs and care for it’s young in the bird box that me and Dad had put up.

The bird box is still there and although my Dad now does the bird feeders on his own at his house. He taught me well lol. When we moved to our new rental property in June my Dad bought me two bird feeders and seeds and nuts to go in the relevant ones.

I brought them with me to the new house and set them up. Unfortunately with the bad weather (Snow etc before Christmas) and how cold it had been the seeds in one of the feeders had frozen and the defrosted and had gone mouldy – we worked this out by the fact that the birds had gone.

I went out and cleared it out a few weeks ago and refilled it – CJ came running upstairs a little while ago to tell me how many birds were actually outside eating from the feeder.

My Dad says that Wiggly Wigglers is a good place for all things bird food and feeder related. They also sell these worms called Meal Worms and they arrive and they are live. Yep I am serious – live worms sent in the mail. Apparently they are safe to feed to birds and the mini ones are good for feeding to fledglings.

When my Dad gets some he winds my Mum up by chasing her round the house with the worms because they creep her out! (You know on Croc Diaries when Steve Irwin would pick up the snakes and things like that – my Mum would be squirming in her chair!)

The One with The Update

So I’ve been a bit of a rubbish blogger recently but I do have updates to share with you all and they are exciting!!!

So I’ve added the links on the right hand side and rearranged stuff so it looks fabulous!

I have links to some blogs:

I’m also working on Twitter, Facebook and RSS buttons so that forming links with me or with other readers is easier. If you have a button like these and think that I should have yours on my side bar – send it to me and explain why hehe.

Little Chief Honeybee IRL goes by the name Kaelah (which I love it’s such a cool spelling! And it’s Hebrew like Hannah is!). She has amazing tattoos – if you wanna watch her explain about her tattoos you can see her video here. I don’t think I’d ever go this crazy. (Okay don’t freak I’m not going to have a tattoo) If I did it would be something simple like this and even then I’d have to careful about when I got it done as I wouldn’t be able to give blood for like 6 months (And if they get round to it I won’t be able to give a bone marrow donation for it’s either 6 months or a year)

Next up is Katie. She’s is a fab designer that I think I found through her Etsy page or I found her blog then found her Etsy page. Anyhoo she is fab! I bought a bag from her last summer and bought the Shopaholic’s Christmas present from her. (HINT: when it comes to my birthday you can’t go wrong with a Katie creation! hehe)

The Dainty Squid is also called Kaylah. I found her blog through Kaelah’s blog (yup just to confuse you lol). I love the funky pictures that she posts and the lessons she gives about dying hair – in one picture she has pink hair and in another she has like tangerine orange hair and it’s A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! If I worked on my own and set my own rules etc I’d so do something crazy like the pink hair but I work in an office and the CEO’s brother or someone like that is here in two weeks so if I do dye my hair any time soon it’s gotta be a semi natural colour lol. I’m thinking of going red again rather than black but I’m not sure. Again she is a crafting lady, she also has a shop on Etsy

As I sit here Chris is lying in the middle of the living room floor making some crazy circle patterns for my new design – I’m so excited!

An Evening With The Hudson Taylors

Last February, my friend David managed to prove how useful and powerful Social Networking can be. He’d made contact through Facebook with Noel Richards.

David went on to invite him to come and play at our church. He did and brought along his friend Wayne Drain.

The evening was really good (I wrote about it in this post). This was such a good evening that Noel has been invited back and is bringing his sidekicks Wayne and Brian Houston, they make up a band called The Hudson Taylors (I take it that it’s named after the Evangelist Hudson Taylor.)

Like David, I had never heard of them but apparently they have been together for 10 years.

So on Sunday 14th March at 7pm, The Hudson Taylors will be hosting an evening of worship at Russell Park Baptist Church (on the corner of Rosamund Road and Denmark Street, in Bedford, the postcode is MK40 3TJ if you want to look us up on your Sat Nav.)

There are links below to the posters and handouts. If you’re on Facebook and planning to go you can register yourself on the event page for the evening which can be found here.

If you are likely to bring a group if you drop me or David at email (my addy is hannah at rockangel dot co dot uk and David can be reached on admin at russellpark dot org).

So spread the word 😀 and see you there!

Movies: I Hate Valentine’s Day

So sometime before Christmas – maybe even earlier than that I saw a trailer for “I Hate Valentines Day“. It’s directed by Nia Vardalos (who also directed My Big Fat Greek Wedding (MBFGW for short lol) and she stars along side John Corbett (who was also in MBFGW).

Its been on my list of films to watch since I saw the trailer last year. I’m not sure if it made it to our local cinema but then again it might have made it to Milton Keynes (we have 6 screens rather than the 15 or more that they have at MK).

Anyway so I bought the DVD and on Wednesday after work I parked myself in front of the TV and while I tucked into my tea I watched the DVD.

The film starts before Valentines Day and then runs to the following Valentines Day. Nia Vardalos plays Genevieve Gernier who works in a florist. She believes that the best way to achieve romantic fulfillment is to never go on more than five dates with the same man. However after meeting Greg Galin (played by John Corbett) she is forced to reassess her philosophy.

I loved this film, rather than just seeing her get stuff sorted and going out with Greg, we actually saw her confront the fact that it was the relationship with her Dad that caused her to run away from relationships and giving into being loved.

My favourite moment in the film is quite near the end and I think if I tell it then it will give away the film. Here is the trailer if you haven’t seen it:

The One with The iPhone VS BB Bold

iPhone Versus Blackberry (or Blueberry as I refered to it earlier)

iPhone 3G

So I’ve been both an iPhone and a Blackberry user. I had a 1st Gen iPhone from March 2007 till the summer last year when my contract was up. I then had to decide whether to just renew my contract, upgrade to a iPhone 3G (or wait for the 3GS like CJ) or go for something different. Well I chose the third option and although the Palm Pre looked fabulous it hadn’t come out in the UK yet so I looked at getting a Blackberry, the spec in comparison did look a bit better and there was the whole price tag to contend with. However about six months into the new handset (Blackberry Bold) the novelty is wearing off and admittedly I am thinking why I gave up on the iPhone.

At the time my iPhone didn’t send MMS and although it looked like it was on the horizon I wasn’t sure about it (I’m not exactly sure why now lol). I went to my Blueberry and look the MMS doesn’t work and each time I phone O2 I’m fobbed off with one excuse or the other (the latest one is about turning it on and off and re-downloading the service books – I’ve already done this multiple times myself and it’s not working!)

Whereas my brother and CJ who both have iPhones send MMS backwards and forwards like the phone always had that function. My Blueberry crashes and I don’t mean like the iPhone where is freezes and then closes the app – my Blueberry crashes and the only way I’ve found to sort it out is to take the battery out – it’s probably not the best option but it’s the only thing that words – when it’s crashing it won’t even switch off using the power button. On the other hand the Blueberry did have a proper keyboard and that’s what I was struggling with on the iPhone. So….

Dear RIM,

We’ve been good friends for six months ish now but when my contract is up in 12ish months I am going back to Apple or finding another phone that does what it needs to when I need to do it. I’m sorry Rim, it’s been a beautiful friendship but it’s just not working.

The One With The Premiere……

Back in November*, I was given a ticket to the #140 Conference at the Indigo 02 in London. I was really excited and nervous all at the same time (in fact when I couldn’t get on the tube at London Bridge due to all the people trying to get to work I very nearly turned back and gave up.)

While at Brain’s house the night before I had realised that I had forgotten my charger, when I was in St Pancras station waiting I tried to get to the mobile store that is within the station but it was already closed. I asked Brain’s and her housemates but we couldn’t come up with a USB cable so I had to risk being battery-less for most of the day.

I got to the O2 arena and found the O2 store and managed to get a charger – then I just needed a power socket.

I went to the front desk and asked one of the guys if there was a plug socket I could use.

Little did I know that my rescuer was Dr M aka Adrian. He guarded my phone while it charged for a little while. The conference gave each one of us an amazing chance to make friends. I chatted to quite a few people who normally I would have never come into contact with, there was Jennifer from Kodak (@KodakCB), Misae from MR Media Group (@MinxyMoggy – she became my power socket and lunch buddy), Ehsan who blogs at Wise Marketing (@Media_Lad), Dr Sue Black from University of Westminster (@Dr_Black – we discussed about education and Twitter – so much fun!!) and Heather from News 12 in Connecticut (@hrkovar – she was also my lunch buddy!)

Anyhoo so why am I recounting stories from over 3 months ago, surely this is about something particular – well there you are correct. Actually this is about an event that happened on the 21st January – that I was invited to. (Yup me invited to a special party in London!!)

Adrian’s company celebrated 20 years in the business last week with the premiere of “Masquerade Reloaded” (the trailer can be found here)

I was very excited and wanted to attend but I would have had to get the train home on my own and stuff (I’d have reached Bedford around 12:30am)

Anyhoo, I’ve been able to interview Adrian about what he does and how he does it and also about the film. At present I haven’t seen the film but I’ve been told that I will be able to acquire a DVD of it at some point in the future so another post will appear then when I’ve seen it.

Han: Adrian how did you get started in the business?

Dr M: Back in 1990, I was working for a medical publishing company as a Director of Sales and Advertising but was also putting together my wedding to Lisa, so Masquerade seemed to be a natural synthesis of Ade the Businessman and Ade the Party Host! It was natural, unplanned and pure serendipity!

Han: Serendipity seems to have become a real buzzword since @DarenBBC did his presentation at the #140conf. Do you have a specific favourite party or event that you organised? Or do you like them all?

Dr M: I love the danger and buzz and sheer action/adrenaline fix of them all, but I have mad bad soft spot for my world famous hijacks that are run by Vlad! (Vlad is one of the many crazy characters that pop up and each party depending on the theme). They are so real, so crazy, so totally thrilling that they could easily have been taken straight from a 007/Mision Impossible film and script! My team is ace and I have some of the very best actors, stuntmen, performers and fellow nutters at hand to assist my madness and mayhem!

Han: Definitely sounds like a Dr M party would go down in history, have you had any famous clients?

Dr M: Fame is what you make of it! A-Listers come and go but we have a strong and personal link for 5 years now with Jonathan Ross! Masquerade has worked with so many names over the years but a few that have been great fun include Jeremy Beadle, Bob Monkhouse, Sir Stirling Moss and Bobby Davro to name but a few!

Han: I’m a follower (on Twitter) of your Son @Sebsilas, does entertainment run in the family?

Dr M: Well, let’s just say that Sebastian is detined for great things as a jazz musician and has an equally fun sense of occasion and parties! A mini Dr M indeed! His Sisters Claudia and Amelia, now also on Twitter, are both dancers and also like to party! Claudia is going on to be a West End performer too! Amelia has seen the light and wants to be a Lawyer! Guess that makes us an entertaining family.

Han: Where did you get your inspiration to create a film and a premiere for the 20th anniversary?

Dr M: From a bottle of bubbly and a couple of glasses of fine Cognac after a mad mad Masquearade party last year!

Han: Good idea, funny how the best ideas start life as a general chilled out conversation. I’ve been following you on Twitter since the conference back in November but how has the use of Twitter affected your business?

Dr M: Twitter has enabled Masquerade and Dr M to acquire a massive cult/PR following from all over the globe! 1100 followers in just 15 weeks no less! It has been a major live-time Social Media Platform from which to promote Masquerade and Dr M from the Twitter “Batvace” to an eclectic and vibrant new market and niche group of people who are pioneering real-time communication by sharing, connecting and engaging together!

Han: Earlier I asked about any famous clients you’ve had, following those, is there a dream client you’d like to work with?

Dr M: I’d like to do a party from Dr M HAHA! Failing that, let serendipity bring that dream client to Dr Masquerade and Ade! Expect the unexpected!

Han: As someone who has been in the business over 20 years, if there is someone out there reading this who was interested in getting into event organising, do you have any suggestions or tips?

Dr M: Yeah, do it! And expect the unexpected, always! It’s the best job you could ever have! Work hard and play harder as Dr M says!!!!

*Technically I was given the free ticket in about September but for my story count it as November lol

The One With The Plan…

Near JD’s flat there are various new retail units that were part of the development near her flat, we went to see It’s Complicated yesterday and Meryl Streep’s character called Jane works in a her own bakery. Okay so here’s where it gets silly. I parked the car outside her flat to drop her off and we were sat outside one of the units and I as a joke say something about running our own bakery (in the unit next door that has a door and then smaller windows the rest of the width of the shop. JD then points to the one next door continuing my “joke” and points to the unit next door – “Well why not that one?” or something like that she says. Me and JD are microwave girls – okay we can use an oven when needed but instant is our middle name lol. I can do cakes but they are more often or not, burnt. So why am I writing a post about a conversation that I had yesterday with JD. Well that’s the thing no matter how much I try and think of something else and get on with other things my brain keeps coming back to it. How much is rent on the unit? Could we do it seeing as there is a coffee shop the other side of the building and an Indian restaurant down a few doors? It’s just off the high street and kinda tucked away – what would we do that would make us different? (When I did GCSE Business Studies I spend ages – or what seemed like ages – decided on business plans and how I’d run my little one. You had to come up with Profit and Loss and forecasts and stuff like that) Anyway so why does this crazy idea keep coming back?? Why can’t it go away lol, It’s only been about 24 hours so maybe it’ll go by tomorrow then again we just keep coming up with more ideas to do with it.

The One With The Meeting

On Friday I have a review with my manager and the Big Cheese. I’m kinda scared and excited lol. How random is that?! I’m scared because it could go like last time. It was horrible – at one point I ended up getting really worked up (possibly verging on hyperventilating). On the positive side it could go better, I could have made it back from the brink.

I have this meeting and they want to discuss how I am doing in my job and what can be do to help me focus and be efficient. Personally I think that I have been more efficient and more focused – I do have days when I get distracted – in recent weeks they were in the first week and a bit after coming back from Christmas. I was still fighting the bug I had over Christmas (which actually turned into a chest infection and I ended up having 5 days off work) and there was my Great Grandma’s committal which did all weight on my mind a bit. I guess to be more efficient a new computer that runs quickly and doesn’t crash too often might be nice but I don’t think that’s an option lol.

I have lots of positive bits to say and requests for more information – we have a product range and whenever we get calls about it the calls get passed through to me which I don’t mind because I feel special and wanted then but I am really struggling as I don’t always have the relevant knowledge at my finger tips. (I am a sponge send information my way – I like it lol) I can blag and offer to call back but sometimes people what the information there and then.

My major negative point is that my Manager and I don’t communicate very well. We sit next to each other but can actually go for whole days without talking to each other – or having the shortest conversation about the labels going to the warehouse at about 3pm and that’s it.

On the other hand me and JD have our hair brained scheme that we keep joking about and I’ve been asked to do an article about a friends film premiere – all in all I think it’s balancing out again, maybe, at least for now.

The One With Love (hehe)

I had a plan I was coming home and was going to review the film I went to see (It’s Complicated) but then I went on Facebook and spotted an update from my friend.

Friend 1 is in a relationship with Friend 2.

HOORAY! About time too! These friends have been friends for ages. Friend 2 thinks that Friend 1’s child is the best thing since sliced bread (and even before that was invited it would have been the best thing lol)

I am really chuffed that they have got together now 😀

Anyhoo proper post to follow

The One With MAF and Haiti

When I was growing up and even now the church I used to attend supports MAF (Mission Aviation Fellowship). Yesterday evening I was sat in the worship annex at my current church I was reading my book while having a drink and I looked up at one of the information racks. There was an email from Max, he is one of the members of MAF team that were already out in Haiti.

MAF have three aircraft and a hangar based in Port-Au-Prince, they’ve been able to use this to fly in aid. From the email I read on the first day they flew back to Florida volunteers and team members who were not needed with the relieve effort – for example volunteers with family and children out there in Haiti with them. They then used the return trips to bring in aid where possible. A fourth aircraft is set to join the fleet.

Apparently the quake was the strongest to hit Haiti in 200 years.

Because they have these little planes they can get aid round the country where roads are blocked and things like that. They can then return with international workers who are evacuating the country. (This sounds like a harsh thing to do but if for one or another reason they can leave would it be better that they are heading home rather than using aid resources and things like that.)

The MAF website can be found here and the specify site about the relief effort in Haiti can be found here. If it is of interest I also found this on the MAF site explaning about how they have been working out there before the earthquake.

MAF has been based in Haiti since 1986. This disaster follows the widespread devastation caused by a series of hurricanes in Autumn 2008. With roads cut off and damaged, MAF’s Cessna aircraft flew essential emergency relief supplies to cut-off communities across the country.
John Woodberry asserts, ‘The MAF programme was here before the earthquake and in a strategic place to serve and help those in great need in Jesus’ name.’

If you would like to donate to MAF there is a link on their homepage (see the first link above).

Donations are still being taken through the DEC, Tearfund and Christian Aid amongst others. Donations of time by praying are so incredibly useful as well:

  • Pray for the people of Haiti as they deal with the aftermath of the earthquake, ask the Lord to comfort those who are injured and mourning.
  • Pray for rescue efforts to find survivors trapped in destroyed buildings and for communication links and power supplies to be restored quickly.
  • Pray for a swift and generous response from the international community to help this disaster-prone poor country.
  • Pray for the safety and protection of Tearfund staff and partners based in Haiti and that they will be able to respond as effectively as possible.
(Prayer points come from the Tearfund website)

The One With……

(Ugh!!!! Must stop starting posts with So or Okay!!! It’s not good English!)

Here’s goes…….

Today is Sunday and I seem to be failing on the front of writing blogs. I keep meaning to come back and write something but I guess I’m just having writers block or something – then again it probably doesn’t help that i have like 4 books on the go and about four projects – one that should have been finished at the end of December – who would have thought writing a journal every day for a year could be so hard! I am doing my best to keep up – i think I will just sit around one Saturday at the end of each month and finish that months entries.

I received my next journal in the Round Robin Swap on the British Birds group – I had a minor crisis on Friday as it had been left under my housemates car in the dry – well it was dry until the car was moved but thankfully the plastic in the jiffy bag kept the journal inside nice and dry – unfortunately it seems like my own journal has disappeared somewhere in the Royal Mail postage system – kinda gutting but my fab friends are in the process of reconstructing something for me (which is awesome!) I am going to bed now. Night Night

The One About When I Grow Up

On Monday I had lunch with Mrs W and the girlies, we were talking about how when I was younger what did I want to do when I grew up (if that makes sense).

I was like most kids I reckon and I didn’t want to settle for one thing or another. I wanted to be one thing this week and something else next week – How was I ever going to get the right qualifications while I kept changing my mind!

If I start from the present and work backwards that probably works best.

Primary Teacher
Being a drama teacher was plan A after uni, plan B became being a primary school teacher. I was going to have the specialism of drama from my degree but I was going to teach Italian. Yup apparently to teach Italian at a primary school level you just need to be able to speak to a GCSE level – no problem except I hadn’t spoken italian since I quit back in 2003! How was I going to manage to speak enough Italian to prove the point in an interview.

Drama Teacher
I did a Performing Arts degree and seeing as neither drama or dance were my strong points (or at least not in the eyes of my lecturers) teaching was the way forward. I looked at being a teacher and after two ish weeks of observing lessons, drama in an upper school wasn’t for me.

Anthropologist
Okay I’m not sure where exactly this came from – It might have been while I was studying Sociology at College (I decided that seeing as I had time on my hands I’d pick up another AS level as I screwed up the first time round!).

Paramedic
This was a hairbrain one – teachers are telling you to go to uni and you have no idea what you’ll be good at so in my case I picked what I liked – for one or another reason moving school/going to college wasn’t right for me so I couldn’t do Human Biology, my school wouldn’t accept me for Biology because I only got a C for Double Science rather than a B as requested in the handbook – I was only just accepted for drama because the teachers knew I’d work my socks off (which even then wasn’t enough to rescue me!)

Anyway so I wanted to help people and Paramedical Science seemed like the way forward.

Didn’t Care
When I was in about Year 9/10 I was bullied – for anything being short, being a geek, being a teachers pet, being a christian, wearing glasses, not being trendy on mufti day, you name it I was bullied for it – I just wanted to survive and get out of school. I know I make it sound dramatic but I took to hanging out in the library or the music department to stay out of trouble.

When I was Younger
I did the normal things, wanted to be a vet but then saw Animal Hospital or something like that and they were helping birth a calf – eugh that was gross lol. The guy had to stick his arm in the cow and assist with the birthing – I decided that I couldn’t do that, so that one went out the window. I remember wanting to be a lawyer but the whole idea of standing up in front of that many people and speaking scared me a little (hey I was about 12 and hadn’t really found my outspoken side!)

On the other hand there are all the things I have been
Waitress/barmaid kinda for the same company but at three or four different venues, customer service rep/cashier at a builders merchant, cashier at a supermarket, PA/housekeeper for a concierge and recruitment company (My manager owned the two companies and so I kinda worked inbetween the two for about two months – I loved the idea of what I was doing I just didn’t get it right – also I wasn’t used to working on my own) and most recently a customer service rep for a safe company. I’ve also been a babysitter, cleaner (I was my mum’s cleaner for a few months because I was struggling to get a job as anything else)

The problem with getting my degree in performing arts is that everyone thinks that you just want a job until you hit your big break – to be honest it’s not going to happen for me I just want a job that likes me for me.

The One With The Slip Up

I’m in pain.

At 12:30 I rather excitedly headed for the car – I slipped twice but managed to stay up right so I was okay. Got to the car and got my badge, I headed back to the building to cut through to go out the other side of the building to make a snow man with JD.

Well unfortunately  I made it back to the building and about a meter in front of the door I slipped over. I caught my left knee on the floor and landed on my butt, at first I didn’t think that I could get up on my own so I called one of my colleagues but they didn’t answer their phone. I decided that sitting on the icy cold floor was not a good option so managed to get myself up somehow – I used the barrier and managed to get upright. I hobbled through the door into the corridor and held open the door for a lady coming the other way (I do it out of politeness and because it’s a nice thing to do for people). She could see I was upset an I splurted out that I’d slipped over in the snow.

She offered to help me back to the office. I was trying to be polite but it might have come off a bit short – she was super lovely and was only trying to help me. I said that I was okay and I didn’t need help (now I feel really bad that I was mean and rude).

I got back to the office and took my coat off – I sat on the floor and rolled up my trouser leg – my knee was grazed (it was that funny graze where it looks like it’s bleeding but it’s not) it had also gone a funny gray colour – I think it was the cold that did that lol.

ChattyAli rescued me lol. She’s the first aider for our office so she sort me out – I think I would have been okay just to sit there and cry for a few minutes then sort myself out but she looked after me lol.

I’m still in pain now – it hurts if I have it bent, it hurts if I have it straight if I try and go for a happy medium it hurts – when I walk on it, *guess what* it hurts lol.

I’m not sure if I need it seen to – I’ve taken Nurofen but it’s not done anything – it’s not hurting enough to make me cry it’s just very uncomfortable and my knee is still really hot. I thought about going to the drop in clinic rather than a+e – as it’s not really an emergency. Getting an appointment to see my GP is nearly impossible so I won’t try that.

I got home and spoke to CJ about what I should do – I’m in pain like 4 hours later and although it could just be the bruise coming out it is quite painful – I had to move the car seat back to the furthest sitting just to be able to get in the car to drive home. CJ got me to phone NHS Direct and now I’m sat in a queue waiting to chat to the nurse. It could be up to 6pm before they call back (at least then The Kiwi might be back so I can hang out with her)

I am sad that I didn’t get to make a snow man with JD but CJ made me two snow men (I think he made them for me and he was excited when I said thank you for my snow men lol.)

The One For Brandy

Love

I have a fab friend. Her name is Katie. She, like me, has a blog. Also like me she loves reading and films. I may never meet her in real life – she lives in the USA and I live here but thats not the point. She’s also like me because as she writes at the beginning of this post, she’s a cryer – and so am I. I watched something yesterday and nearly burst into tears. I watch the films The Notebook, My Girl or Steel Magnolias and realise that my eyes are leaking again. Somedays it takes nothing and those tears are there again.

(As Katie put it) I don’t know Brandy. I’m not subscribed to her blog, to be honest I only found it this afternoon through Katie’s post. But I wanted to post this because it’s so sweet and sad all at the same time. I truly believe that enough people pray (Even if you don’t prayer hold them in your thoughts) and healing comes.

My name is brandy. And I have a blog.

And a plea.

I use my blog to showcase the crazy I meet everyday, share the stories of the kids I teach and document my love for tequila, dairy products and the abdominal muscles of Ryan Reynolds. Rarely do I talk about personal issues on my blog- as personal as the dude that I adore (who I actually met through my blog- single ladies, let that be a very good reason to blog, the possibility of meeting someone as wonderful as my man), but I need your help. And it involves my dude.

He’s a guy who made math comics for my class, so they would love learning about addition. He’s the kinda guy who sends my friends gift cards when they are having hard times, who remembers every story I ever told him, who was the first person I celebrated with when I got a teaching job. He’s the guy who sent flowers to me at school- dozens of my favourite pink roses just because he loves me. He’s a guy who has spent a year patiently explaining (and re-explaining) everything there is to know about football during the important games when silence is preferred. He’s made me word puzzles and comics and stayed up late playing Scrabble with me (even though I beat him almost every time). He’s listened to me cry about school and family and jobs. He is everything I never knew I needed and everything I always knew I wanted.

The holidays have hit us hard. He’s recently been told he may have something called multiple myeloma- an incurable cancer, that gives a person an average of five years of continued life. Though this news has came as a shock, he continues to be exactly who has always been- spending his time worrying about me, rather than worrying about himself. He’s the most selfless individual I know- (he stayed late on Christmas Eve to work, so his co-workers could leave early) and a post like this would never be something that he would promote or encourage but when I’m overwhelmed and feeling helpless, the blogging community has always given me tremendous support and comfort, two things I desperately need at this time.

As I write this, the future is uncertain and we aren’t sure what’s happening. He’ll need to see an oncologist soon, to verify what’s going on in his body. My hope is that everyone who reads this think positive thoughts and if you are a person who prays, could you add him to your list? (You can refer to him as ‘brandy’s hot awesome dude’). If you don’t pray, please keep him in your heart. This cancer is only a possibility and I believe that the prayers and positive thoughts of people can make sure it never becomes a reality.

I want to give a big thank you to the blog owner who scraped their original blog plans and graciously put this up. My goal is to get as many people as possible to see and read this post. If you are reading this and want to help, copy and paste my plea into your blog or send a link through twitter, so more people can keep him in their thoughts. I would be so very grateful (even more grateful than I am to my friend who first showed me the picture of Ryan Reynolds on the cover of Entertainment Weekly. If you haven’t seen it, google it. You. Are. Welcome).

I realize this all sounds dramatic, a Lifetime movie in the making- but this is life. Right now. And I’m throwing away any hint of ego and am humbly asking for you to pray or think kind thoughts. If you are able to pass this on, thank you and if you know anything regarding MM- please email me (my email is on my blog). This isn’t a call for sympathy or a plea for pity. It’s just one girl hoping you can think positive thoughts for the person she adores. If my current heartache provides you with anything, let it be with the reminder that life is short, love is unbending and no one knows what could happen next. Maybe it is silly, but I really do believe that positive thoughts can make a huge difference. Thank you for reading this and if you haven’t already? Please tell someone you love them today.

I did.

The One With The Decade

The end of 2009 is a few days away now (my brain has actually lost track of the days really seeing as I’ve been ill lol)

Anyhoo my lovely friend Elle posted her list on her blog. I started my list as a comment and soon realised it was going to be longer than a comment should be lol. So here is my decade in review

  • 10 GCSEs
  • 1 A Level (I got U’s in the others lol)
  • 1 AS Level (again see above)
  • 1 BA Honours Degree (2.2 wahoo!)
  • 4 Weddings (at least): My own, LB (my best friend), My Aunt, Another girl from uni
  • 3 Deaths: Great G-ma B (2000 or 2001), G-ma S (2008), Great Grandma P (2009)
  • 7ish jobs (I was 16 in 2002 so I’ve got every job since then in this one decade!)
  • (Sacked from) 2 jobs (technically I didn’t really have one of them as I was on my first shift when I was sacked)
  • 5 Places of residence (One was for 70% of the decade – could make a pretty graph!)
  • 2 cars (My Ford Fiesta, My Fiat Seicento)
  • 4 planes – I’ve only been to and from Izmir, Turkey but we can to change planes once there and once coming back.
  • 1 stamp in my passport – this was when we went to Turkey
  • 6 significant trips abroad – I think there were more than this but I don’t remember

I think I will surrender there for now lol.

The One with The Phones

One of the guys on Twitter called Mark posted this image of his old mobile phone.

I counted through the phones that I’ve had since I got my first phone.

Trium AstralMy very first mobile phone was a Trium Astral and looked like this. It was a birthday present from my Mum and Dad. The blue bit on the front was replaceable but as I would find out the rubber buttons were rubbish lol. At one point I had to carry a pencil with me to be able to use one of the buttons because the keypad had literally come to pieces. My original cover was navy blue – when I bought a pink cover for the phone I decided that was boring and covered it in clear glitter nail varnish (apart from the screen) so that then it was girly and sparkly – I don’t think my Mum was too impressed  but it was arty and creative lol.

Nokia 3210

So then onto my second phone, the keyboard pretty much disintegrated on that one and I had to get a new phone. I think my new phone was a Nokia 3210, this phone was really cool at the time – it had cames and was a whole bunch more nicer than the Trium. Unfortunately it wasn’t mine for long, it got stolen from my bag while in school. I know who did it but the school couldn’t do anything about it because it was my own fault that I had it with me (My Aunt was picking me up from school that day – I didn’t have it with me so I looked trendy!)

So following the stolen handset story I then ended up without a phone for a month or so – I was 13/14 and I couldn’t get a job unless I got a paper round – mornings weren’t my thing. In the end, I got a reconditioned handset from my network – it wasn’t that exciting or trendy but it was better than no phone what so ever.

SagemMW3020

I got a Sagem, I’m not sure on the model – after all it was nearly 8 or 9 years ago that I had it but I remember it looked something like this. It wasn’t the newest phone on the block but my friend had a similar phone so we were kinda trendy together.

Those were just my first three phones – there are at least another 3 or 4 to go before getting to my iPhone I think.

The One With Sherlock

I want to go and see the film and had I not been ill, me and My Mum would probably already have a date in the diary to go and see it.

A friend of mine called Rickie has seen it and she wrote this blog post about it. (Open it in another tab/window so that when you finish my post you go read hers!)

Anyhoo she asks the question

The only let down for me is that the line, ‘elementary, dear Watson’ is missing. Did he ever say it?

So the geek in me had to go find out – did he say it or what is something that appeared in popular culture.

Well I found this link. According to this the line doesn’t appear in the books by Arthur Conan Doyle, it was a bit of artistic license on the part of the writer or director of the Sherlock Holmes films. (There are a few but the main one I end up seeing is The Hound of the Baskervilles
and The Adventure of the Speckled Band)

Apparently in the books, Holmes does refer to Watson as My dear Watson but he doesn’t use the “Elementary My Dear Watson” phrase.

Books: An Abundance of Katherines by John Green

I started this post but then I had to reboot my phone and it got wiped – I have no idea why as it was saved. Anyhoo…

So John Green is a writer from America – hence my reasoning that I heard about him from italktosnakes or one of the other FiveAwesomeGirls. I’d been reading John’s Blog and really liked it (at this point I hadn’t really seen any of his vlogs – I love the Brotherhood idea!!). So just before Christmas I decided to risk that I might get duplicate presents and invested in two books by John Green. They were An Abundance of Katherines and Looking for Alaska. This was also because I’d realised this year that I’m getting lazy and need to engage my brain more (when you do the same thing mosts days at work you have to create some kind of distraction lol).

Also it probably didn’t help that my friend Elle annouced that she read 322 books in 2009. Yes thats like one a day near enough!

Anyhoo so I started reading the book and off I went – I guess being ill gave my the time to cram in extra reading space. Anyhoo I loved the book and look forward to reading Looking For Alaska. I wanted to review this book some more but I’m so full of cold and it’s taken me nearly all afternoon to get to this point hehe.

I can see me in the Lindsay character – how sometimes I can be a different person to other people – this tends to be – sensible mature Hannah for work but then mess around HanniePants for church and hanging out with Lambkin, The Abster and Essie. Colin is really cool and I love how Colin and Hassan have their own little slang between then and they don’t care that other people might not necessarily get it.

Also having watched this video I have come to the conclusion that I have Tiny Chicken’s Disease.

The One With The Ramlings

I had a plan about how organised I was going to be over Christmas and that I had some blog posts coming and I was really excited about them well now it’s the 28th December and I’m failing lol. Well I didn’t expect to be sick over Christmas and spend stupid amounts of time in bed lol.

So I’m sat here watching Chicken Run thanks to the lovely people at BBC iPlayer – I’ve seen it like a gazillion times but there is something about it that doesn’t grow old – or at least doesn’t grow old for me lol. Also I have to watch it on my own because I quote it now lol.

This morning I’ve been chatting to people via Twitter (and just got a text from The Giant) me and DaddyP were having a game of I Spy in French but it didn’t really work. “I Spy quelque chose avec mon petit oeil commençant par A” I obviously could see stuff that he couldn’t and the other way round but I did pick something pretty obvious (I picked Wardrobe – or armoire in French).

Anyway so watching Chicken Run and starting this post of ramblings. Now going to restart with a proper post now that I have ejected the ramblings lol.

The One with The Bottle

So I’ve taken up residence in my bed lol. I’m not one for surrendering in bed and giving in to illness but this time it’s had to be done.

I’ve been on the phone to NHS Direct and they said about taking some Paracetamol and see if it’ll break my temperature. (Just looked it up of Wikipedia for the technical term – what a geek!) So Paracetamol is an antipyretic which means it’ll reduce the temperature and an analgesic so it’ll reduce pain.

CJ grabbed me the bottle of paracetamol and some Vitamin C tablet thingies and left me to it lol. He offered me sandwiches for lunch but I really wasn’t fancying sandwiches lol. But then when The Kiwi came and offered me noodles, that sounded lush – I really fancied noodles lol. (They are easier to swallow I think that interested me lol). I was taking the NHS Direct ladies advice and was trying to take paracetamol. I tried to open the paracetamol and it was irritating me – I couldn’t do it. I was about to either give up or go downstairs and get the other packet. The Kiwi came upstairs to see if I wanted a cup of tea or some bread with my noodles, while she was there I asked her to open the paracetamol so I could take some (Yup I can’t believe that I couldn’t open the bottle!!

The Kiwi then nipped back downstairs and finished cooking the noodles, then she came back. She is the Queen of Kindness today! I texted her earlier to grab me some more tissues on her way home and she said she would! Fab girlie!!

The One about being Ill on Christmas!

I can’t believe I am ill on Christmas AGAIN.

Some years I can be really ill like the year I had flu – I think I had had a cold leading up to Christmas and managed to fight it off or keep it at bay but then on Christmas Day that particular year I got Flu like symptoms and slept through most of Christmas Day. This action of sleeping lots obviously made the difference because although I feel groggy I was fine on Boxing Day

So here we are in 2009. I went to bed Christmas Eve and was losing my voice – at one point it had completely gone. About 7-8pm while we were playing Star Wars Clone Wars Monopoly at my Parents House, my nose decided it was going to run and join the party that was going on in my head!

Anyway so this morning I got up and now I feel like poop. I had a shower to see if that made me feel more human but the hot water just made me cough and splutter some more. Hopefully going to go to the supermarket and get some cold relief and some tissues before heading off to CJ’s Auntie’s house.

The One With The DM

So three weeks ago I got very excited.

I had finished reading Making History and wrote this post. I sent the link to Stephen Fry and then left it – after all he’s super busy what chance would there be that he’d take the time to read my blog but little did I know look……

Yes lovely blog people….Stephen Fry took the time out of HIS day to read my blog! Thats completely surreal! Ok maybe thats me having a semi Fan-Girl moment which I’m sure can’t be that good, But my friend Robert is correct –

“It’s no fun having a great contact and not being able to tell the world. If the famous person thinks you’re so terrible,… well, who would want the know them anyway. I say do it and then don’t worry about it. Life is too short for NOT DOING STUFF!”

The One With Secret Santa (No 2)

So after the excitement last week of my present arriving with Le’nise (her post about the Secret Santa can be found here) it was my turn. Yesterday when I got home from work there was a “Sorry You were Out” Card from the post man.

I tried to get to the Sorting Office yesterday but the queue was stupidly long – I was mega excited and stuff but then really irritated about waiting in the queue (Yup I think I am unBritish!). I had to turn round and get out of the queue because I needed to get into town and then get to JD’s before 5pm – it went horribly wrong and I didn’t make it properly and stuff like that. I was already irritated because I’d been home to wash my hair and found that we’d run out of gas again on our meter so we had no hot water – Yup we really do need to pay more attention to how much is left etc. (I went to three shops on my way home at 11pm and none of them did gas or were helpful enough to answer my question)

Anyway so back to the story. So yesterday and today my Manager and my Colleague are both out on holiday for different reasons etc. So I was running Customer Services pretty much on my own. So I asked The Big Cheese if I could take a lunch break – he was totally understanding and said yes that I could have a proper break (rather than 10 minutes to stand in the canteen queue to get a sandwich).

I went to the Sorting Office – I still don’t understand why they don’t have more than two normal spaces and one disabled bay when there is always more than 3 people in the reception. Anyway so a girl came to park after me and got annoyed at me for being in the way – it wasn’t my fault that I was waiting for a space and she felt like she needed the whole area to turn round in.

I eventually got in and handed my card over (was very excited as I realised what it was) and opened it on the way back to the car. I was floored by the gift – I guess that Amazon had an offer on or something because normally it wouldn’t have fitted in the price bracket for the Secret Santa.

I was so chuffed! I can’t believe it!

I have a little puzzle to work out what my Secret Santa’s Blog Address is but hopefully they will read this and make themselves known hehe.

Thank you Secret Santa – my present makes an appearance in this video…

The One With Life

Funny how life doesn’t live up to your plans.

You make plans and you know what you’re doing – or at least you think you do.

For the last few years my Great Grandma has had Alzheimer’s Disease. From what I’ve learnt it affects memory – and this has shown – as she’s got worse she’s forgotten me, my brother, and my cousins (her Great Grandkids), some days she couldn’t remember my Mum and my Grandma (Yup her own daughter).

Since Great Grandma’s birthday in October, she’s been quite poorly, she was admitted to hospital and then was discharged but placed into a different old peoples home (who could give her the medical care she needed)

Today was the Youth Nativity Service, it went really well and when we got home I had a text from my Mum, asking me to call her. Figured it was pretty important because I would have normally still been at church.

She asked about how the service went and stuff like that, then she told me – I told her a bit of a porky – she asked me was I okay and I wasn’t really I was welling up and wanted to cry then when I got of the phone I had about 4 or 5 tears and then was okay again – I guess I’ve been down today but not really teary – it’s kinda hard to explain.

As she didn’t really remember me I’d kinda already said goodbye in away – I know that her being in Heaven is almost the best place for her now. She’s with Jesus and she’s better and she’d not in pain and now she remembers me (ok the theology is questionable but you get my point)

So she’s gone. I went to my Mum’s on the way home from church this evening – I wanted to give her a hug and chat about stuff and kinda get it sorted in my brain almost. Apparently Great-Grandma gave her body to Scientific research so she’ll not have a funeral she’ll just have a memorial if Grandma wants to go ahead with that. I’ve only attended one funeral before (Grandma’s last year) so I guess I needed to tie up the dots and make sense of it.

I have to go to work tomorrow and Tuesday as normal because I am essentially holding the fort – Yup I am Customer Service – I’m going to need a lie down and a stiff drink after the concert me thinks!

The One About Languages

Yesterday my manager made a comment and it made me think. She was chatting to one of the girls who used to work here, who is now a languages teacher. They were discussing about teaching languages and about how there is a need for teachers and stuff like that.

When I was at middle school, French was compulsory, it was a school decided idea that we should be taught French in Year 5. (Recently the curriculum was changed so that languages would be taught from Year 3 – the beginning of Key Stage 2)

I loved learning French until Year 9 when I started Upper School – my teacher went on maternity leave and our cover teacher couldn’t control the class – me and some of the my class went to the head of department. What waas the point in going to the lessons if the teacher spent most of the time trying to get the class to settle rather than teaching the class (or at least those who wanted to learn)

So at the end of Year 9 I decided that I would give up French and select Italian as my GCSE Language choice. I managed to stick it out till the end of Year 12. My main reason for giving that up was that I loved speaking it but you had to learn it for the exam rather than just for learning it. I didn’t understand my written paper and really struggled. I breezed through my speaking exam – I knew the answers about my family, where I lived and hobbies like that – I even regurgitated my presentation about Leonardo Da Vinci without hesitation but do you think I could do the written paper.

So I gave it up. I did miss it because I loved it but these things had to be done.

So when I looked at teaching after my degree I was offered the opportunity to do a PGCE in Primary Education with Italian at the Uni of Bedfordshire. At this point I hadn’t spoken Italian in about 4 years so you can imagine that teaching Italian wasn’t top of my list.

But now I work in a job where speaking French or German would be advantageous – Italian is handy but not really used in the company I work for. Occasionally I translate emails and try to speak to our Italian distributor in Italian but it’s a bit restricted and English tends to take over. I tend to reach for Google Translator most of the time when needed – I managed to organise an order for a Polish customer this way!!

Anyway so yay to languages! But no to teaching to exam standards etc – can’t you learn a language because you want to?!

The One With The Snow

Today like most of the local area ended up with a Snow Day. I didn’t – it was clear enough outside my house to risk driving to work – if it had been really bad outside I would have spoken to my Manager and see if there was anything that I could do from home.

On the other hand, My 15yo Cousin has been given today off by her school because it’s closed – she goes to the same Upper School that I went to – I only remember one bad snow fall like what we are having at the moment and even then the school didn’t close – I walked home in about 4 inches of snow in my normal school shoes – my feet were rather cold by the time I got home that day.

My 9yo cousin on the other hand has had to go into school – I have the feeling he’s really not impressed – then again he might not actually know as I think my 15yo cousin walks herself to school and the 9yo and my Aunt leave before she does.

Anyway so I got to work at 5 past 9 – yep I was late – I had misjudged how long it would take me to get to work in snow and at 15-20mph instead of 30mph. I got here and it was just me and Aunty Ali to start with – my Manager arrived at about 10 ish but it’s quiet – I guess lots of people are affected – I looked up Northamptonshire school closures as that’s the next county over from us and like 80% of schools are closed – maybe even more than that – I’m not sure if we are due more snow but it’s possible the Carol Service tonight could be cancelled.

The One With A Goodbye

Today is the end of an era.

Terry Wogan leaves BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show. There’s this fab video on the Radio 2 website talking about him and how fab people think he is.

Chris Tarrant comes in and says his piece and it turns out he’s wandering back stage at Who Wants To Be A Millionaire when Chris Evans and Terry were doing their practice runs.

You can catch his final show on BBC Radio 2 (88-91FM or online – Bedford gets best around 88.6FM ) from 7:30 onwards after Sarah Kennedy (who I’ve met in person!!) and The Dawn Patrol – I’m tempted to get up and actually listen but I know that I will more than likely be better sleeping than getting up lol. Might have to listen again tomorrow evening.

The One With The Present

I am so chuffed to see this blog post.

Yep the lovely Lenise was my Secret Santa person – actually then again I was her Secret Santa through the swap organised by Melinda @ missgeeky.com.

I am waiting for my present but I am sure it’s probably on it’s way. Melinda was fab to organise it and I am so chuffed that Lenise loved her present >_< There's at least two book reviews to follow in the next few days along with the reveal of my secret reader lol.

The One With The Confusion

I sometimes think alot about me and how I react to certain things.

On Saturday we had our house warming which meant that the house was full of people and it was amazing and so much fun – especially the 7m long drinking straw. My In-Laws had brought some comically big drinking straws – they were like 70cm long each – we managed to get about 10 or 11 joined together and still managed to drink our concoction that me and Kewey had made in a jug. The Shopaholic was our team mate too – she made sure that the straw didn’t come out of the jug while we were sticking straws together and trying to get to the living room.

But this evening we’re due to be going out for dinner with a group of people from church and in all honesty I don’t particularly want to go. Watching a DVD and eating KFC with my brother and my housemate sounds like more fun. This evening is a meal for the people who work in the church office. Mrs Mow Mow was due to be there but now she can’t make it so I have the feeling that I could end up parked up one end on my own while CJ talks shop – I could sit there and play on Twitter but then it would look like I’m being unsocial. Then again could text JD as she’s babysitting this evening lol.

Argh I don’t know! Why do I like being in a crowd some days but then hate it others? How does that work?

I checked earlier and the present that I send for the Bloggers Secret Santa Swap as organised by MissGeeky had arrived at it’s destination. I’m really excited and am just waiting for it to be blogged about, but I am also a little nervous about it all at the same time lol. I am such a freak somedays!

The One With The Wishlists

I must be actually crazy! I talk to my friends about how I might be able to survive without the internet and I really can’t. Lol.

When I was younger I would write a paper list to Santa (then it was to my Mum). Now I email her a link to my Amazon Wishlist as inspiration. I also sent it to my best friends this year. We did another Secret Santa between us and from my Secret Santa I got two of the Louise Rennison books from the Georgia Nicholson series – I love them! I discovered them when I was at upper school and although I think I am technically miles out of the target age range I still love the books all the same!

Stop in The Name of Pants was the first one of these. This is the penultimate book in the series. I would write more about it but I’m about half way through. Are These My Basoomas I See Before Me? is the second one (well my second present – it’s technically last in the series) – yes they do all have slightly random titles which I’m sure aren’t really repeatable in public if you actually know what they mean.

Louise Rennison is a very cool author – I’d be interested to read anything else that she has had published (even if I am technically to old!). I was trying to see if she had a website of her own but by the looks of it she doesn’t. I did however find the Georgia Nicolson website.

I’ve started on my “To Be Read” list for 2010. So far I’m at Number 4 and am just working along the ones that I remember off the top of my head.

The One With A Plan

I’m not really one for planning when it comes to blog posts. A lot of the time I park in front of the computer and type what pings into my brain. But between now and Christmas I have a plan or at least something I am trying to aim for.

I’m going to be writing what I can ready to schedule for busy days and things like that.
There’s going to be my Top Christmas Films and my top Christmas Songs (both inspired by conversations that I’ve had with RickieWrites over the last few days – have a visit – there is a cool post about Twitter).

There’s going to be a post about my mysterious reader at some point. This secrecy has its fun but I want to talk about it and how this person read my blog (of all things lol).

There will be a couple of book reviews and film reviews too, probably more as we get towards Christmas as there seems to be bucketloads on over Christmas – if we have internet by then I’ll be queuing the programs up on the computer to record. Somewhere over Christmas me and JD are going to see Orson Welles and me (Well if it’s still open because apparently it came out at the beginning of December).

Anyway it looks like excitement all the way!

The One With The Shoes

This is another email that was sent to me while I was at work. It made me think, are there people at church that I don’t talk to because of the way they look – are there people who don’t talk to me because of how I look?

At the church I grew up it was frowned upon if you wore jeans to church – you had to be in your Sunday best – my Mum made me wear a dress rather than trousers. A discussion me and my friends have is – if Jesus came to earth today and was hanging out with us how would he dress? Okay so we don’t know a definitive answer but then again what do you think? I think he’d be in jeans and a hoodie, I think he’d blend in with the crowd to a certain degree – I don’t think he’d show up in an Armani suit and smart shiny shoes.

Shoes in church

I showered and shaved – I adjusted my tie.
I got there and sat – In a pew just in time.
Bowing my head in prayer – As I closed my eyes..
I saw the shoe of the man next to me – Touching my own. I sighed.
With plenty of room on either side – I thought, ‘Why must our soles touch?’
It bothered me, his shoe touching mine – But it didn’t bother him much.
A prayer began: ‘Our Father’ – I thought, ‘This man with the shoes, has no pride.
They’re dusty, worn, and scratched. Even worse, there are holes on the side!’
‘Thank You for blessings,’ the prayer went on.
The shoe man said – A quiet ‘Amen.’
I tried to focus on the prayer – But my thoughts were on his shoes again.

Aren’t we supposed to look our best. When walking through that door?
‘Well, this certainly isn’t it,’ I thought, Glancing toward the floor..
Then the prayer was ended – And the songs of praise began.
The shoe man was certainly loud – Sounding proud as he sang.
His voice lifted the rafters – His hands were raised high.
The Lord could surely hear. The shoe man’s voice from the sky.
It was time for the offering – And what I threw in was steep.
I watched as the shoe man reached – Into his pockets so deep.
I saw what was pulled out – What the shoe man put in.
Then I heard a soft ‘clink’ . As when silver hits tin.
The sermon really bored me – To tears, and that’s no lie.
It was the same for the shoe man – For tears fell from his eyes.
At the end of the service – As is the custom here.
We must greet new visitors, And show them all good cheer.
But I felt moved somehow – And wanted to meet the shoe man.
So after the closing prayer – I reached over and shook his hand.
He was old and his skin was dark – And his hair was truly a mess.
But I thanked him for coming – For being our guest.
He said, ‘My names’ Charlie – I’m glad to meet you, my friend.’
There were tears in his eyes – But he had a large, wide grin.
‘Let me explain,’ he said – Wiping tears from his eyes.
‘I’ve been coming here for months – And you’re the first to say ‘Hi.”
‘I know that my appearance – ‘Is not like all the rest.
‘But I really do try – ‘To always look my best.’
‘I always clean and polish my shoes – ‘Before my very long walk.
‘But by the time I get here – ‘They’re dirty and dusty, like chalk.’
My heart filled with pain – And I swallowed to hide my tears.
As he continued to apologize – For daring to sit so near
He said, ‘When I get here – ‘I know I must look a sight.
‘But I thought if I could touch you – ‘Then maybe our souls might unite.’
I was silent for a moment – Knowing whatever was said
Would pale in comparison – I spoke from my heart, not my head.
‘Oh, you’ve touched me,’ I said – ‘And taught me, in part;
‘That the best of any man – ‘Is what is found in his heart.’
The rest, I thought, – This shoe man will never know.
Like just how thankful I really am – That his dirty old shoe touched my soul.

The One With a Pain in the Proverbial

@Girltaristhan

Yes people I am being a pain in the behind. I emailed a lady about media140 and then realised that my twitter thingy on both my email signature and my business cards was incorrect. I still have over 100 business cards so you can imagine it’s a bit of a pain – it’s also a pain because lots of people that I met at #140conf know me as @girltaristhan. I have to personally apologise to @darenbbc because he supported my name change because @girltaristhan was a mouthful and too hard to spell lol. Daren also has a cool website.

The One With The Game

Sherlock Holmes

I’m really excited as the Sherlock Holmes film comes out at the end of December and hopefully I’ll get to go see it with Mum.

The One with Bits

I was wondering about different things.

1. If you knew someone famous had read one of your posts would you then blog about them reading it? I told my parents, CJ and JD but I haven’t told any one else – yeh I’m excited and want to make a deal about it but then if said person came back to read my blog because they did indeed like it then they might be like eugh! Fanblog and walk away again. I think me and the small group is fine. What do you think?

2. I had a dream last night – one of those horrible ones where it’s so real that you wake up believing it. The first section of my dream wasn’t so nice. I dreamt that I woke up from my bone marrow harvest surgery, and the doctor came to see how I was doing. He asked me to get out of the bed so he could check the harvest site – except when I went to get out of the bed my legs wouldn’t move and I couldn’t feel them. Rather than freaking out I was really calm and put it down to the anaesthetic not wearing off completely or something like that. Even in my dream when I was told that I wouldn’t walk or dance again I was still chilled as a cucumber. CJ was next to me having a freak out about it but I was calm and took it all in. It was really strange.

Books: Making History by Stephen Fry

Yesterday while I was waiting for my blood test I was reading “Making History” by Stephen Fry. I’ve been reading the book for about three weeks now (I was definitely reading it in London on the way to #140conf). I had read the whole book and was down to the last two chapters. It’s ultimately a fiction story but huge chunks of it are set in historic fact – there is a sort of epilogue at the end that just sets it straight. It’s definitely better than sticking at the beginning like you get in *certain* books. I think if it had been at the beginning I would have spent the whole time reading it questioning what was happening. Alot of the story revolves around Hitler, the concentration camps and the history and the future around that. People sometimes question if Hitler hadn’t have been born would the world be different and somehow this kinda shows one of the perspectives that could have happened.

When I finished work at 5:30 I tried to read it as I crossed the car park but unfortunately the lights on the pathway weren’t bright enough for me to be able to carry on reading. So I had to surrender and put my book back into my bag. JD needed to nip to a friends house on the way home so I waited out in the car and carried on reading – I was so engrossed in the book that when JD got back into the car I jumped a mile! I was there in the action listening to the conversation and being a fly on the wall.

I got home and did a few bits and pieces like put my iPod on charge and chat to CJ about some bits but then curled up on the sofa and tried to finish the book. Why is it when I am so close to the end CJ wants to talk and start a conversation, but as soon as I’m finished and can join in the conversation he has nothing to say?!

It has taken me a little while to get through this book because of the amount of words that I had to label or look up because I didn’t understand them or because I had to go back and read the same page a second time because I didn’t quite keep up.

Thanks to the wonders of Twitter I was able to ask Stephen a question when I was half way through the book – I was in two minds whether to send him a message and also in two minds whether I would receive a reply – but I did so that was interesting to see why his character said something in particular. The character is mid-rant and quotes Cabaret – amongst other songs and films. The quote in the book is

“Life is a cabaret, old friend”

Now having done Cabaret (the song) in singing lessons and in my AS exam I know that it’s

“Life is a Cabaret, old chum”

but then I thought it could have been a bit of artistic license so I dropped the message and waited for a response – well I kinda didn’t wait because I knew he’s a busy chap so probably wouldn’t have time to respond but then there was a response:

“Gosh. I shall have to check. Probably. I like things to be human in their fuzziness as a rule!”.

Okay so I think this means that it was on purpose so that while the character is ranting he’s not thinking straight so might get it in a muddle – I know I get my words in a muddle when I’m ranting.

Anyhoo there was a cliff hanger at the end and I was sure that it was going to finish there and it wouldn’t be resolved – but how wrong I was! There was a happy ending but I had to read the last chapter twice because I got a bit confused on the way through. I can’t tell you what happened – you’ll just have to go read it yourself!

The main thing that struck me about was the topic. Often in History at school and stuff like that we discussed the topic of what could have happened if the Allies hadn’t won World War 2 but it never crossed my mind to thing about what could have happened had Hitler not been around – okay there was a plan in there somewhere along the line and there were people standing in the gap and stuff like that.

I’ve just started reading The Hiding Place by Corrie Ten Boom – I’m like 4 pages into it and don’t want to put it down. My Grandma and My Mum told me about her when I was younger but I never read the book. Corrie Ten Boom was an amazing lady. Someone told me a story about her recently, when her and her sister arrived in the concentration camp, they were lying in bed one night and were praying, they were being thankful for the different things around them and they thanked God for the fleas in their hut, it sounds so random but because of the fleas, the soldiers wouldn’t go into the hut and it meant that Corrie and her sister Betsie could hold Bible studies and things in their hut and they could pray without being bothered. (I have the feeling that I’m going to have lot to say when I finish the book lol).

Movies: The Twilight Saga: New Moon

So yesterday evening I went to see New Moon with my Cousin and my Aunt. It was a good girlie night out and I had a great time. I think my cousin realised what a geek I was when I started quoting the speech from Romeo and Juliet in her ear (Eyes look your last, Arms take your last embrace etc etc).

All in all it was good and I did enjoy it. The main disappointments were things like how calm Jane was – I always thought she’d be more erratic or angry (Dakota Fanning looks scarily grown up!), I thought there would be more on how Bella and Jacob’s relationship developed – her feelings seem to change really quickly like one minutes she’s “Edward I love you” then she’s “Jacob I love you”. On the way home me, my cousin and my aunt discussed what had been cut – there was a huge chunk about the stereo that had been cut – wasn’t Bella supposed to rip the stereo out of the car when Edward leaves and then Edward was supposed to find the stereo in a bin liner or something in the bottom of the wardrobe? I also thought there would be more about the dreams – we see Bella waking up and reacting to the dreams but we don’t see what she’s dreaming about – if you hadn’t read the book would you have put two and two together and realised what she’s dreaming about.

NaBloPoMo: Day 30: The One With The T-Shirts

I need your help. I would love you to help me out please.

I have entered a competition on Iffyton’s Blog to win 1 t-shirt per month for a year (thats a whole year of fabness!)

Now I’d like to share a bit of love – I’m not sure if I can give one away so I might have to come up something else but if you could vote for me here then come back and comment about your vote then if I can I will take all your comments and stick them in a hat and pull out one and if I can that person wins one of the fab T-shirts.

Does that sound good? Can I do it – I don’t know but we’ll see.

NaBloPoMo: Day 29: The One With The Nativity

Following my post about New Moon the other day – me, The Murf and Zoza were stood doing the washing up, we were chatting about films (As The Murf is the man for films lol.) We were chatting about New Moon and apparently according to the Murf when Jacob appears with no shirt on the whole cinema went a little crazy! I guess they were the die hard Team Jacob fans lol.

We also talked about Star Wars because I’d seen Episode 5 for the first time in years on Saturday afternoon – me and Ecco1993 also discussed it on Twitter because I got the quote right rather than wrong. Apparently Vader’s line isn’t “Luke, I am your father” it’s just “I am your father”. My brother used to tell me how there was supposed to be Episode 7 to 9 as well in the Star Wars series (I was going to call it a Sectology – like a trilogy and quadrology then decided that there isn’t such a word and although it sounds good I might get told off by people for making up a word that doesn’t make sense! And also had it been a nine parter would that make it a Nonology)

Anyway so the main point of this one was to talk about we rehearsed the Nativity that the youth group are doing. I have donated my part to one of the other girls in the youth group – I think CJ was reluctant to ask when he was assigning parts but then she came forward and said could she be involved so me and CJ gave her my part – so I am Stage Manager extraordinaire instead which is just as cool! I don’t think I have any performance blacks any more so a shopping trip might be needed hehe.

NaBloPoMo: Day 28: The One With Cold Hands

Today The Kiwi got home from NZ – she was just as excited to be home and she was the night before she left – I think that’s hilarious! I was pottering around trying to get various bits sorted before heading to the Outdoor Centre for the rest of the day. I was heading to the kitchen and The Kiwi shouted at me and told me to give her a hug before I disappeared!

I went to the post office and then went to the Outdoor Centre – When I got there CJ and the Youth Group hadn’t arrived so I sat in the car – I did get out for a little while but it started raining and it was really cold. We started the day with the platform task and then the Jacob’s Ladder. The platform task is about team building and trust and stuff like that. The idea is that you get three or four people to climb to the top of this platform and then they hang on by their wrists to each other and lean out (if you get it wrong then you find that one person might fall off and take everyone with them lol). Mr Q wanted to show off so when he got to the top he decided that he was going to jump for the trapeze – he was so good! He reached and then without really thinking about it he swung his feet up and dangled there upside down for a bit. When it came to my turn I got to the top of the ladder and couldn’t bring myself to go any higher – the telegraph pole that has the platform on was swaying in the wind and was kinda scaring me – okay it can’t go anywhere but there is something about it swaying that puts you off. I decided that I’d stay on the ground and belay as much as possible.

I like climbing and abseiling and stuff like that as much as the next girlie. Unfortunately when belaying your partner you can’t wear gloves because you don’t get as much grip on the rope. It’s cold in November (funny that!) So I spend most of the morning outside with rather cold hands.

In the afternoon we went inside and did some climbing and some people stayed outside to do Archery while we still had the light (I went out and had a quick go – did rubbish as per usual!). I didn’t do lots of belaying I mainly hung on the backs of peoples harnesses to stop them going up in the air while they were belaying someone else. Also was like an anchor by also holding onto the rope.

All it all it was tiring but it was good to hang out with the youth group and learn stuff about them and things like that. CJ said it would have been nicer to have more people but then he also said that it was good to have a smaller group it meant that we got to talk to everyone rather than feeling you didn’t talk to anyone.

We grabbed a pizza for tea and flopped in front of the TV. It was a lovely chilled out evening.

NaBloPoMo: Day 27: The One With Memories

I can’t believe it’s nearly December. I know it’s not been any shorter than any other year but why does it feel like the time has just flown by.

It was three days before Chill @ The Church and was a little worried about what was going to happen and stuff like that but it all came together and we had an awesome time. Some of the students from the CU came and gave us a hand – I know CJ was incredibly grateful that they were able to help out which was cool.

Six Months Ago
I’m officially 23, I’ve been graduated university about two years but what do I want to do? I still don’t have the foggiest but for now I was celebrating my birthday.

November 2008 was a sucky month. On Wednesday the 5th I went to work like any other normal day. At 4pm ish it all changed. I don’t want to rehash the same posts you can read them here on my blog (here and here). My Grandma past away and it was horrible – I felt like my heart had been pulled out my chest and jumped on over and over again. I was given time off work when really I didn’t want to be at home staring at the wall I didn’t want to dwell on the fact of what happened but then again I also didn’t want to pretend that it hadn’t happened. My friends were amazing, Chris phoned Kewey for me on that evening – I wanted to tell her I felt that she needed to know that this huge thing was happening but I needed to spend time Grandma before she went and then with my family. She offered to drop everything and drive to my house that evening. I needed a hug but I could hang on till the weekend when she was coming anyway. Being 13, Year 9, the first Christmas concert I did there I think. It took me a little while to get back into music when I got to Upper School – I think had fallen out of love with it but then I got back into it and that was that. I was hooked for the 5 years I was at Markie.

Five Years Ago
It was my first Christmas at university, we were doing out first proper semi public performance. I was nervous and excited all at the same time. Lol.

NaBloPoMo: Day 25: The One With The Presentation

Today was D-day, I did my presentation. It was scary as! Originally I thought I was just doing the presentation to The Sales Guy, but in the space of about 5 minutes before I started the audience quadrupled! DUDE! SCARY! The Big Cheese and The Sales Dude had a chat about what it was about and stuff like that then I got on and did my presentation. I’m used to standing up to give presentations so it was a little weird being parked in the corner and speaking from there – especially as when I rehearsed it I was stood up at the other end of the table speaking to the empty chairs lol.

Anyway all in all it went well. We came back to my desk and had a live lesson as such. I put a message out on my own account just saying hi and that if people could say hi back it would be really helpful – I ended up with three messages in return in the space of about 5 minutes which was good because the plan nearly backfired on me lol. I spent a little while in the afternoon then tidying up my presentation and incorporating my notes so that it could be past round my colleagues so that they could then ask questions and stuff like that. I got the account set up and started to try and follow people and stuff – on my own account I just tweet away to my hearts content but I’m not really sure what to tweet on what is essentially a corporate account. Any suggestions?

If you want to see the presentation drop me an email or a DM @girltaristhan.

NaBloPoMo: Day 24: The One With The Girls

I love my Tuesday evenings at the moment. We’ve been working our way through a book called “For Such A Time As This” I think I have blogged about it before – this week it was about having a purpose – well I have no idea what mine is. I guess at the moment it’s possibly to be a light in the company that I work in and be a light to the young people and stuff like that but if it is to be a light in the company I work in – how do I go about enjoying my job when all I want to do is leave?

I guess if tomorrow goes okay with the presentation then it could all change but then again it might not. I guess today I am worried about it – my main worry is that I’ll get asked questions that I don’t have the answers to and don’t know where to find the answers.

Also it’s been a week since #140conf and I can’t quite believe how crazy stuff has got. I came back to work last Wednesday and had ideas coming out here there and everywhere I just didn’t know how to apply them – then it came up in conversation with the sales dude and that was that – I was doing this presentation and was going to be talking about Twitter and social networking.

NaBloPoMo: Day 22: The One With The Something

So I had something to write but in true me style I forgot.

CJ got back from the Youthwork Conference this afternoon – he was a little mean about all the tidying and stuff that I did over the weekend but I think that was more because he was shocked about some of the changes rather than being disappointed that I’d got off my butt and done stuff lol.

He did have a pressie for me. Rather than his conference bits being given to him in a plastic bag he was given like a Bag 4 Life which was hessian with printing on it because of being the conference – photos to follow me thinks.

Me and JD took some photos the other day for the Air Guitar Competition – I’m going to up load the pictures to Flickr when I have chance (and maybe Facebook too)

NaBloPoMo: Day 20: The One With Cheese on Toast

Today after work me and JD hung out – she ended up staying till 2 am while we watched Children in Need on the BBC (if you missed it you can get it on BBC iPlayer.

We went to my house after work, I wanted to take some photos for the Iffyton Air Guitar competition – I was all prepared to take them myself but then as JD was coming for tea I asked her nicely to help me out – I’m glad she did because I’d have chopped my head off or pointed in the opposite direction or something like that. JD stayed for tea – JD was awesome and she made cheese on toast for me in exchange for me having her round for tea. We parked ourselves in front of the TV and started watching Children in Need.

We had so much fun especially when they played the new Peter Kay Video – it’s so cool – I love it! My Mum agreed – she said it was good because it was aimed at so many different people.

NaBloPoMo: Day 19: The One With The Choir Rehearsal

It’s Thursday that means it’s choir practice – well normally it’s band practice but today it was choir practice as the concert is 4 weeks on Monday!!

I am sure that if we were a proper choir, me, the Fairy, JD and Bex might have been kicked out – we can’t help it – we get the giggles sometimes and can’t stop – it probably didn’t help this evening that we were all squished closer together so one giggle multipled like twice as fast! I think we irritate the ladies who were sat behind us – I try and behave but sometimes I can’t help it lol.

I’m having trouble with focusing this week – there is just too much to be excited about. It’s bed time soon and I want to read some more of Making History by Stephen Fry so that I can get onto reading the latest Kathy Reichs book and the latest Dan Brown book. Bring on the reading fest!

NaNoBloPo: Day 18: The One With Some Bits

I’ve got so much to add from #140Conf – not neccersarily in order.

1. @drmasquerade (aka Adrian) (his website) was fab and guarded my phone while it charged for a little while behind the welcome desk! He was fab!

2. @DarenBBC‘s presentation and live interpretation of Bob Dylan’s Subterranean Homesick Blues was fab – I loved in! I was going to get up and dance I and really wished I had now lol.

3. The Education Panel was really interesting. There was: David White (@daveowhite), Digital Maverick (@digitalmaverick), James Clay (@JamesClay, Shirley White (@ShirleyEarley and Sue Black (@Dr_Black). It was really interesting especially when the subject of teaching Twitter as part of the IT curriculum came up. I asked a question/made a point: how would you use Twitter etc in curriculum if as soon as the curriculum is published and distributed its already out of date?

3. During the last speaker me and @swanny were at the back with her friend (I missed her name – she’s something to do with Girl Geek Dinners) chatting about the Zi8 cameras that @KodakCB was giving away.

4. At the end of the conference there was a mad dash for the Zi8’s as to enter the giveaway you needed to hand your business card to @kodakCB. I was first for the last camera but @kodakCB‘s sidekick asked for a shuffle and draw (this was like my third attempt to try and win one).

5. At the end people were hanging around chatting and various people were video-ing bits. I ran up behind the cameraman who was filming @darenBBC and pulled faces at Daren – the idea was to put me off but then he grabbed me and got me to join in his little video and then @KristianC got pulled in to and we started talking about young tweeters. (Me and @KristianC.

6. Before the last panel @Kyraocity gave us a little musical break – she sang this amazing song and I couldn’t help but bop along lol. I’d really like her CD – I managed to video a little bit on my phone but it wasn’t very good quality and you could only hear certain bits.

7. After being video-ed with @darenBBC – I was hovering around and there was a damsel in distress. @graphicalliance (aka Natalie) had no battery in her BB and desperately needed some charge so I whipped out my charger and we stuck her phone on charge for a few minutes before we got kicked out by the O2 people.

8. After the conference we headed to a local pub for drinks (we ended up at the Slug and Lettuce actually in the O2), on the way in I was asked for I’d – I thought this was hilarious because I don’t get ID’d very often now. One of the ladies made a comment about not being asked for her I’d – I honestly didn’t mind because its the doormen doing their job.

9. I hovered for a bit then @darenBBC sorted a drink for me. He poked the guy who had gone to the bar for the group. (I missed his name so couldn’t say thank you).

10. I hung out with Jez, @media_lad and @minxymoggy. I stood chatting to Jez about interests etc including music (Dusty Springfield and that I should listen to Dusty in Memphis album), my favourite songs and bands (City of Blinding Lights – U2, Your Sofa – Becky Higg, The Pretender, Learn to Fly, Times Like These – The Foo Fighters), My Favourite Film (The American President) and also why I liked it – we also briefly chatted about Obama and The West Wing.

11. @MinxyMoggy and @Jez chatted for a little while about PHP, C, C++, CShop, and other bits – I kept up to a certain point from what I’ve seen mentioned here and there.

12. @media_lad rejoined the conversation and we talked about HMV and the opening of new stores.

13. At about 7:30 I decided it was time to head off because it was going to take me around 45-60 minutes to get the tube across London and then like an hour for the train home. @MinxyMoggy, media_lad, and Jez as they went to talk to @dr_black, @darenbbc and @Kyraocity amongst other people as I was saying goodbye to @DarenBBC, @dr_black realised that I had asked the question earlier in the Education Panel bit and so we discussed quickly before I left a little more about IT and tuition in schools.

14. On the way out of the O2 building I called my Mum to let her know I was on the way to the station. I managed to catch the 2030 that was stopping in Bedford on the way to Nottingham. I spent most of the journey home reading Making History by Stephen Fry.

All in all, it was a good day. I had so much fun. I got home on Tuesday and wanted to tell CJ every bit of the day but he got grumpy with me.

NaBloPoMo: Day 17: The One With My Adventure (Part One)

So today I cashed in my ticket and went to the #140conf.

I got up this morning at just after 6:30am – yes people I was up that early – I threatened to take a picture of the clock but I did my tweets will have to do lol (@Girltaristhan)

Me and Brains had some breakfast and then headed for the tube station. As most of the route was a slightly detoured route of her way to work she was able to help me out and guide me to where I needed to go and stuff like that.

I left Brains at London Bridge and waiting for the Jubilee line heading towards Stratford – I was going to be getting off at North Greenwich for the O2 Arena and IndigO2. It took four attempts to get on the train because there were just so many people heading to work at 8:30 this morning. We got to Canary Wharf and the train completely emptied – there were maybe 4 people left in our carriage – it was mad!!

I got to the O2 Arena and found that there was an O2 store so I could get a charger – note to self it starts conversations and (beautiful) tweetships lol. (Friendships + Twitter = Tweetships)

Anyhoo! So I arrived and got my badge – was a little worried that I left my printout in my other bag (or tucked right at the bottom of my satchel) the lady on the desk was super lovely and took my name and sorted my ticket.

While I was in the foyer I saw @darenBBC wander past. His site is here. I was going to say hello but was kinda a little worried – all these people I had never met – what if I wasn’t what they expected or thought I was. I also saw @JeffPulver in reception but as the organiser he was running around organising people and sorting stuff out.

I went and sat down – I was kinda early so I sat down in the second row – I was closer to the front than I was at Les Mis lol.

(I’ve started writing this on the tube – my phone is dying on me for like the third time so hopefully it’ll save drafts as I go along)

I had a tweet conversation with @MinxyMoggy about saving her a seat and if she was there and stuff like that. (her site is here)

This conversation continued on and off for most of the day in one form or another – I should have given her my moby number earlier in the day rather than right at the end!

Okay so a brief run down of my fave bits and pieces. There was an awesome animation by Mashcast of Jeff (see above for link!) and @Jeffrey Hayzlett (he’s an important dude at Kodak) arriving at the conference – there were various London landmarks and things like that to introduce it (you can see it “here” – okay link to follow)

Following this Jeff did a fab introducing talk about how he got into Am (or Ham) radio and used to use a CB radio (I have had a go on ones of those – one guy had the handle of Peter Rabbit! Lol)

Then Stephen Fry took the stage. Firstly he was crowned the King of Twitter by the lads from Buyacredit.com then he got on to do his talk. He talked a lot about SM (Social Media) being about the person not the business or whole – its a medium with emotion attached to it and stuff like that.

(There were more morning bits I want to add but I’ve been on the go for nearly 16 hours so I need to flop!)

Lunch was with @Minxymoggy (you can find her website here. She does websites, marketing and PR and stuff like that and @hrkovar (her blog/site ishere). We went to Las Iguanas which serves Latino/Mexican food – I had nachos with Red Leicester and cheddar cheese on them because it was like the plainest thing on the menu! Lol.

@minxymoggy had suggested going to Wasabi – that would have been worse for me lol. They are a Sushi and Bento bar. I’ve been past Yo! Sushi in St Pancras a few times and I love the posters and the idea and design of Bento boxes but I really do not like the idea of eating raw fish.

I started this post on the train and now I’m shattered so I’m not sure how many links are correct etc. If there are any duds leave a comment or drop me an email hannah at rockangel dot co dot uk and I will get it fixed asap!

NaBloPoMo: Day 16: The One with The Trains

Like a child counts down to Christmas I’ve been counting down to #140conf – I’m not sure why I am stupidly excited – I think it’s also because I am going to go see Brains for the first time in like 6 months or more (I think it could have been Christmas 2008 which means it’s been nearly a year!!)

I am super grateful to her to – tonight is technically a work night for her and she has to get up earlier than you might to so that she can get across London on the tube and stuff like that. I am trying to be as little inconvenience as possible because I know how much energy entertaining a visitor takes – I’m sure we’ll be able to put the world to rights about nearly everything except from global warming and the credit crunch and even then I’ll probably remember tomorrow something that I meant to tell her. She’s going to meet me at Kings X/St Pancras which makes it a little easier – I’m not quite trying to find her house in the dark and stuff like that – so I guess that’s a little easier – I can window shop in the train station if I’m early lol.

I keep glancing over Twitter and looking at what people are discussing with regards to #140conf. I’m beginning to think that I should have gone down this morning and joined in the Tweet ups and stuff like that then met Brains at the train station or something.

I am a little worried about travelling in London on my own, last time I did it was when I went to meet CJ when he was doing the Tube Challenge – that was a little worrying for me because I wasn’t sure I had the right ticket because I got it from an automated machine thing (I didn’t have the right ticket – I needed a 1-6 zone card and had a different one or something like that)

I am probably going to blog lots on the train and tweet away to my hearts content – but first things first I’m going to have tea with CJ because this week is a little crazy – I’m away tonight and tomorrow and then CJ is away from Thursday through to Sunday.

Over and Out!

NaBloPoMo: Day 15: The One With A Million

So Mr Stephen Fry joined the ranks of the Twitter Millionaires – I know that Ashton Kutcher (@APlusK) was already there and there are a few others dotted around but somehow I was more excited about this one. I also think a Twillionth became a very cool word to know lol. (Haven’t had chance to watch this video yet!!!)

Congratulations!

Apparently Stephen (yeah okay first name terms! haha!) is talking at the #140conf this week which should be awesome – JD is proper jealous that I’m could be in the same room as him – she’s funny! She keeps calling me a geek because I’m going to a “twitter conference” however she will be excited that she got another mention so I think that balances out at least a little bit lol.

P.s. New Doctor Who and Top Gear tonight! Unfortunately I won’t get to see either of them until sometime in the week 🙁

NaBloPoMo: Day 14: The One with Stuff

So I wasn’t sure what to write about today.

I spent time this morning working on my NaNoWriMo story – I’m still miles behind – I really could do with a good catch up on it lol. I’m on about 8500 words but I can’t run it through the word counter on the website because it’s saved on my MacBook and I don’t have internet – maybe I have to take it to church with me or something tomorrow and try it out.

I’m not sure what else to write about lol.

NaBloPoMo: Day 13: The One With The Parties

So earlier this week CJ told me that he was organising a youth event and its going to be on the 24th of April. I pointed out that it was the Saturday before my birthday and he pulled a face that said it all. He’d forgotten that and he thought it wouldn’t matter, because I’ve always had little dos rather than proper parties. When you look back my last proper birthday party with music etc was my 18th (5 ish years ago) mainly because I was at uni and then had a lot of other bits and pieces around my birthday.

Anyway I’m not going to whinge about it now because there is a Plan B now and its not so much of a problem.

CJ has set up an event on FB and invited my friends to the party.

I’m kinda excited but also I’m not because its so far away at the moment its hard to be excited about something that is 5 months away.

Ah well more details to follow lol.

NaBloPoMo: Day 12: The One with Mum and Lunch

I got up this morning and for the first morning in about two weeks I really struggled with pulling it together and staying awake – I think it might be because at Mum and Dads, it was too warm (sleeping next to the radiator has that effect!) and too noisy so getting up was the best option. Then our house was kinda too cold to stay still so getting up was the best option and now we have heating I’m not able to get up lol. Then again I could just be a lazy lump lol.

Me and mum had lunch together with JD which was cool – I went for my lunch then rode the lift up to Level 4 to collect my Mum from her Clients office, then got the lift back downstairs again to the canteen, then when we finished eating me and JD rode the lift up to Level 4 with my Mum then she got out and we rode the lift down to my office (next door to the canteen!!) and then JD walked back to her office – her office is on Level 3 but she can’t get from the lift to her office because there is another office in the middle and it’s across the whole floor so you don’t walk down the corridor you actually walk through the office or something like that.

BTW Christmas is coming – we had our first Christmas card today and we start Christmas Carols at band tonight – rock on!

NaBloPoMo: Day 10: The One With The T-Shirt

So if I get these posted I will be upto date (And you readers will all be asleep having read 5 posts in one go so that your RSS doesn’t get clogged up lol)

I have one more day without my manager and as exciting and daunting as that seems I actually don’t mind. I’m kinda getting the jist and there’s not been too many difficult people – most of the issues I’ve been able to deal with apart from a few random collections that I know nothing about.

JD has really taken to knitting and was nipping along at lunchtime – I even did two rows on her scarf so there’s a bit of Hannah-ness in her new scarf – although I wouldn’t be able to pick them out as they are the same colour as the rest lol.

The scarf is made of some funky wool. It’s got two threads and one is navy blue all the way along it and then the other thread blends from blue to purple then pink and then back through purple and blue to start the pattern again.

I am also trying to get a T-shirt printed to take with me to #140conf but I’m really struggling – at the rate it’s going I’m going to have to get out the pens and write my own shirt lol.

I tried to go through Iffyton who produce some of my favourite shirts but they don’t do one of jobs. I tried a couple of other companies in Bedford but I didn’t hear back from one of them and the other could do it but I needed to be able to get the shirt to them and stuff like that. I guess I could get iron transfers but they can make the shirt crispy if you’re not careful.

This Meme (apparently it’s meem rather than me-me) was working it’s way round this afternoon so here are my answers – what are yours?

Four places I go regularly: My Mum’s House, Church, JD’s flat (or at least the “car park” lol), Mrs W’s House

Four favourite smells: Freshly mown grass, just baked cookies or cake, bacon sandwiches, Roast dinner (then again maybe food in general it would seem!!)

Four people I think will respond: Ruby, Elle or JD but not sure if Mum will lol ChattyAli just sent it to me! (It was being past round by email which is why you’d have people responding lol)

Four TV shows I watch: Being Erica, House, Grey’s Anatomy, Strictly Come Dancing.

NaBloPoMo: Day 9: The One With The Monday Blues

So technically I’m writing this on the 10th November due to all the excitement of moving house and not having any internet I’ve fallen behind both on NaBloPoMo and NaNoWriMo. I’m not calling them failures yet – I can go made and do an all nighter on the novel and post date my blogs lol. I WILL CATCH UP!

Today was bad because it was cold but I also had Monday Blues because I was tired and didn’t want to be at work. My Manager is still on holiday so it was a little bit chilled. Once my brain kicked into gear it was fine. I just jumped from one thing to the next and got stuff sorted out.

This evening we were serving at the Alpha Course at Church. It was good fun to work together with the Connect Group. We had a little technical hitch because we hadn’t prepared for having vegetarians so I had to rush off to the supermarket and get some bits and pieces to save the day – I got back to church and it was my job to get the veggie meals sorted. I then helped Mrs C plate up. CJ kept being a bit mean about stuff because he used to work in a kitchen – I also used to work as a waitress and so I had experience too at plating up and serving. I am going to ask Mrs C if I can wait on tables next time rather than being in the kitchen because of CJ being mean.

NaBloPoMo: Day 8: The One With The Birthdays

So technically I’m writing this on the 10th November due to all the excitement of moving house and not having any internet I’ve fallen behind both on NaBloPoMo and NaNoWriMo. I’m not calling them failures yet – I can go made and do an all nighter on the novel and post date my blogs lol. I WILL CATCH UP!

Today the gas ran out – we have no hot water and no heating. It wasn’t too bad in the morning because the heat was still kinda floating around lol. It was worse in the afternoon – we just have to remember to keep the doors closed and stuff like that to keep the *warmer* air in and the cold air out. CJ borrowed a fan heater from The Murf and we’re using that sparingly to keep us warm lol (after all we’d be paying more in electricity).

Today is Catinka’s birthday. I don’t see her very much now but I wish her a happy birthday if she’s reading this! Tomorrow is Mrs W’s birthday and I’m super organised and got her present Friday so I just hope she likes it 🙂 and then on Tuesday its my cousins birthday – he’s going to be 9!

Aftershock was at J and T’s it was fab – I love hanging out with their son cos he’s just so funny and so full of energy!!

NaBloPoMo: Day 7: The One With The Swishing

So technically I’m writing this on the 10th November due to all the excitement of moving house and not having any internet I’ve fallen behind both on NaBloPoMo and NaNoWriMo. I’m not calling them failures yet – I can go made and do an all nighter on the novel and post date my blogs lol. I WILL CATCH UP!

This morning me and CJ were going to go and get some bits from the Supermarket and from the local DIY store but he was being mean and stuff so I ended up going out on my own. On the Plan A list we were going to go to the store where Q works and ask for silly things like “A tin of elbow grease” and a “Long Stand” and see if he would take the bait. Unfortunately we didn’t get that far.

I went to hang out at my Mum’s after going and running some errands. I went to the supermarket on the way home and found that Slumdog Millionaire was on special offer so I bought it for CJ as he keeps going on about how he wants to see it. CJ kept getting all excited to see India again – okay so it was Mumbai and he went to Bangalore but he was still super excited. I think it proves how desperate he wants to go back – but what about me?!? I don’t handle the heat well and India is going to be HOT! There’s a bit where Jamal jumps into the toilet pit – I actually thought CJ was going to throw up! He was pulling such a funny face – it was kinda gross but I’d already seen it twice so knew what was coming.

This evening was another Swishing Party. (I also found this where you can do Swishing online.) When we moved house on the 5th, Me and The Kiwi both sorted out some clothes that we didn’t really want any more – so I sorted the bag and took some of the items to the Swishing Party. Me and Mum had a great time – I got two tops (photos to follow!). Mum also got a nice blouse from the party. I was looking to see if anyone had put in a winter coat – there was a coat but it was like a 10 or something so it really wouldn’t fit me.

NaBloPoMo: Day 6: The One With(out) my Manager

So technically I’m writing this on the 10th November due to all the excitement of moving house and not having any internet I’ve fallen behind both on NaBloPoMo and NaNoWriMo. I’m not calling them failures yet – I can go made and do an all nighter on the novel and post date my blogs lol. I WILL CATCH UP!

My Manager is on holiday for a couple of days that means I am doing orders and emails and all sorts. I’ve managed to ask my colleague to answer the phones which is a little less for me to do but that only works when she’s being co-operative.

CJ took the youth group to the fireworks at the Rugby Club, The Kiwi, My Bro and The Kiwi’s BFF went to the fireworks as well – they had invited me to go but I really didn’t fancy it for some reason – I love fireworks but I just didn’t want to go.

The Kiwi heads home tomorrow to New Zealand for three whole weeks. Today I’ve had this feeling that she’s going to miss her train – thankfully My Bro is coming to get her and take her to the station so she won’t miss it. She came running into the living room gave me a massive hug and *accidently* bumped heads and very excitedly said “I’m going home tomorrow!!!!”. I don’t think she noticed about the banging heads – I was okay – I think there is more sense than feeling there or something like that.

NaBloPoMo: Day 5: The One With The House Move

So technically I’m writing this on the 10th November due to all the excitement of moving house and not having any internet I’ve fallen behind both on NaBloPoMo and NaNoWriMo. I’m not calling them failures yet – I can go made and do an all nighter on the novel and post date my blogs lol. I WILL CATCH UP!

So we moved house, we are in our lovely new place that we can all ours and not someone elses.

My Grandad isn’t a violent person – however I think if he was – he might have punched my FIL – he made some comments to my Grandad that treated him like he hasn’t been a carpenter and general handyman for most of his life – that was the major issue of note from the day other than that we had a good day and got settled relatively quickly.

I guess by moving today it took our minds off the fact that G-ma passed away a year today. Me and Mum were in the car at about 4:30pm – which was about the time that Mum called me and I went to get CJ and my brother to go to the hospital. I guess it was good to talk about it rather than skirt round the subject but it was hard and it was sad that she isn’t here to see us buy our first house and stuff like that. I think if she’s not too busy in Heaven she might have been sat on her cloud looking at us running round like crazy ants.
